Waiting 2 months TTC and struggling !

MrsMeow2019 · 23/06/2019 10:41

Dear All,

This is my first post, been thinking about TTC since January. DH and I agreed to start in August but as it turns out we have a family weeding next year and if we were lucky in August I’d be far too prego to go ans wouldn’t want to miss said wedding. Sorry for the waffle anyway this means waiting till September ... which is only 2 months ago but feels like forever.

I’ve got lots of social events to keen me busy, could do with losing half a stone, have started folic acid/ vit D and am due my smear test the first week of September. So really the waits makes sense.

But I’m almost 34 and getting increasingly worried about possible problems and how long it will take. Aside from the fact that I feel super broody and just want to try yesterday 😆.

Any other crazy ladies out there to join the wait ?

Girls! I did it.
Coil came out this morning! Eeeeek!

Jasmin11 · 09/07/2019 17:37

Hi everyone - your weekends sound lovely, I was working all weekend unfortunately - already excited for that maternity leave haha! Yesss @noodlesoup99 that's great! I stopped taking the pill a few months ago in preparation and it was such a nice feeling taking the first step towards ttc :) I've been extra broody recently and it's driving me mad! OH is excited too but he doesn't do the crazy things I do like having a nosey on the Mothercare website for prams :') hope everyone's having a good week :)

MrsMeow2019 · 09/07/2019 19:52

@noodlesoup99 Yay!!! It must all feel so real for you! Keep us all update :-), Could be a positive soon!!

@Jasmin11 I hope you’ve got some time off in the week! I’m always on JoJo Maman looking for things ‘for my nephew / friends’ Wink

AndddddHerewegoagain · 09/07/2019 22:06

@Jasmin11 got to love some window shopping! Which pushchair are you looking at?

I spent so much money on clothes and got given so many clothes im pretty sure he only wore each outfit once before he outgrew it Blush

Oh but if you do want an expensive addiction check out fred and noah. Their clothes are the cutest!

Maybe we should start an essentials list and a wish list? I did this and it really helped me budget x

MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 13:46

@AndddddHerewegoagain love the idea of a list ! I fear I will definitely overspend and then regret it lol. I love all the cute outfits but I'm sure you're right they'll never get worn lol

I'll attempt a start a list

Essentials

Pram
Moses Basket
Nappies
Wipes
Car seat
Vests / babygrows
Baby monitor

Would like

Bedside cot
Fancy Muslins

OP posts:
AndddddHerewegoagain · 11/07/2019 15:25

@MrsMeow2019 definitely go for the bedside cot. Most babies grow out of moses baskets by 6 weeks. My son was on the 90th percentile for length and was in his snuzpod until 7 months! Its so worth the extra money

I have an icandy which i was given. Though these days i have a phil and teds which hardly gets used!

Car mirror that you put on the headrest I would also class as an essential. Means you can keep an eye on them when driving

*reusable breastpads if planning on breast feeding (reusable ones are normally cotton and more comfortable in my opinion!)

*muslin cloths

  • cheeky wipes are brilliant

*a sling

  • baby bouncer or chair- saved our sanity Grin

My waste of money things

*bottle warmer. Quicker to boil the kettle and use a jug to heat the bottle

  • wipe warmers. No-one ever uses them. Ever

Also prebaby buy/ rent a tens machine. You will thank me Wink

Jasmin11 · 11/07/2019 18:23

@MrsMeow2019 yess luckily I had Tuesday off and this weekend I'll have off too so I can't complain :) I do the same - so glad I've got nieces and nephews to use as an excuse to look at baby things Wink
@AndddddHerewegoagain we really like the mamas and papas urbo, oyster 3 or the Joie chrome :) I'm trying so hard not to look at baby clothes at the minute as it's making me sooo impatient! Haha! I'll have to make a note of Fred and Noah though! :)

Jasmin11 · 11/07/2019 18:26

Also another thing for the list - Im not sure what they're called exactly but my nephews had them as babies, it's a plastic mat with sensors that goes under the baby's mattress and an alarm goes off if it doesn't sense their breathing - I thought it was a really cool gadget for peace of mind and I always said I'd definitely get one for my children 😊

AndddddHerewegoagain · 11/07/2019 18:55

@Jasmin11 it won't let me tag you for some reason!!

We had one of the undermat sensors. Our son started rolling in his sleep around 7 months so it was constantly going off as it couldn't sense him breathing 🤦‍♀️ after it went off 3 times in 1 night i removed it. It's definitely one of those things 1 person will swear by and others don't rate it.

I do love a video monitor, though i would just spend hours watching him sleep and not getting anything else done Grin

CouscousEvaporator · 11/07/2019 18:57

@noodlesoup99 freeedommmmm!! Grin Hopefully your cycles stay the same, I found my first was completely out of whack but now they are more regular than when it was in!

I haven't thought about getting baby equipment, although agree moses baskets seem a bit pointless as they get to the length of them in like 2 months! I think the only thing I know I want to do is use re-usable nappies as much as possible... although it might be easier said than done!
I am a bit worried it will take ages to conceive - no reason to think it but I am a bit mindful of it and am a bit scared of getting too excited. Probably really silly of me Blush

MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 19:05

Loving all the lists, I hadn't thought that about the Moses basket but it makes sense , I shall axe it from my list !

Might peruse Prams as well but think DH will enjoy doing that as he can pretend it's technical.

@AndddddHerewegoagain what sort of car seat did you have? My nephew has one you just strap in with the seatbelt , I like the look of those with the isofix base and the ones that lay flat seem like a good plan.

@CouscousEvaporator I feel that way too, I go between worrying it will take years and worrying we'll get prego first time and it'll be too soon ..... the entire TTC thing seems a nightmare , so many unknowns , I think I'm going to worry a lot about miscarriage and chromosomal problems.

Have found places near me to get the Harmony test and would defo go ahead with it, worth the £400 for peace of mind !

OP posts:
AndddddHerewegoagain · 11/07/2019 19:22

Reusable nappies are a great idea. We lived in a north facing flat when we had my son so couldnt bear the thought of trying to wash and dry them constantly! Definitely looking into it second time round- local councils sometimes offer a free starter pack so that's worth looking into

@MrsMeow2019 i had a maxi cosi with a base. Made it so much easier when it was raining or cold That i could just clip him in!

The lie flat ones are quite new to the market and i think most of them only go up to 6 months. They're great for long journeys ans they say half an hour max for car seats but we did loads of hour journeys in the first few weeks with 1 parent in the back and didn't have any problems. Just got him straight out once we got to wherever we were going

CouscousEvaporator · 11/07/2019 19:48

OOh thats good to know about the nappies, thank you, I will have a look. I know they can be quite expensive to buy! (Sorry it won't let me tag you I don't know why!)

@MrsMeow2019 Is the harmony test not an NHS test then? £400 is a lot but worth it for peace of mind :)

MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 20:04

@AndddddHerewegoagain I do like the idea of the reusables, they're pretty pricey though!!! I've a few friends who use them at home and disposables when out and about , will look into the charities suggestion.

@CouscousEvaporator I think the harmony will come in for most ppl or us older women (34 ConfusedSad) in the next few years. They do it in some areas of London when you get high Downs risk screening (bloods and 12 week scan ) instead of an amnio. But where I live it's not done, you can have it from 10 weeks and it tests for a few abnormalities not just Downs as well as letting you find out the sex if you want ! And it's just bloods (and a scan to check pregnancy is viable)

OP posts:
MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 20:04

@AndddddHerewegoagain councils I mean lol

OP posts:
AndddddHerewegoagain · 11/07/2019 21:04

Yeah they're pretty pricey to start off but obviously save money over time. Also i feel slightly sick every time i throw a bag of full nappies out at the environmental impact Blush

Ive never heard of the harmony test. They do a downs syndrome test- blood test i think. If it comes back high risk you get lots of support and extra tests.

MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 21:38

@AndddddHerewegoagain yes the normal NHS Downs screen is a combination of bloods and the 12 week scan results. It it's high risk you get offered an amniocentesis where they put a needle into the womb and take a sample of cells to confirm.

The Harmony means you can avoid the amnio and the risk of miscarriage that that brings.

There's so many threads on mumsnet about harmony, I may have read them all haha

I'm sure I have just over thought it all though and become obsessed with advancing age lol!

OP posts:
MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 21:38

@AndddddHerewegoagain did u find the reusable nappies easy to use ? How many would you say you'd need to buy?

OP posts:
AndddddHerewegoagain · 11/07/2019 21:51

I haven't used reusables..i would next time but couldn't face it in a flat with no garden Grin

My friend came back high risk at 0.01% !!!!

Another test worth looking at is strep B. That's not offered on the nhs and really should be!

MrsMeow2019 · 11/07/2019 23:05

@AndddddHerewegoagain sorry I did see the flat comment before and must have forgotten hehe. We can all do some reusable nappy research :)

Hope you're all having a good weekend , happy almost Friday! What are you all doing to keep distracted from TTC? My DH is away this weekend so I'm off to see some friends and maybe treat myself
To a bit of shopping ... avoiding the baby aisles lol

Hi ladies. Hope you all have a relaxing weekend- i discovered this website today which i found really helpful. Hopefully you guys do as well.

www.nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk/livewell/pregnancy/OvulationCalculator/

My weekend is going to consist of a bunch of 2 year olds going nuts at rugby Saturday and then Sunday we are going to an emergency service day (police, fire engines and ambulances + steam trains) at Buckinghamshire railway Sunday. Its going to BLOW. HIS. MIND (Hopefully!)

MrsMeow2019 · 13/07/2019 16:50

@AndddddHerewegoagain Emergency services day sounds amazing! Hope you all have fun!

Thanks for the link, I've got the Clue App and have been using the Mother & Baby predictor but they all give slightly different dates for ovulation :/ so annoying. Might have to consider OPKs ...

MrsMeow2019 · 13/07/2019 18:11

@AndddddHerewegoagain Winkexcellent plan! I was looking at the egg meets sperm plan which is basically that !
