I'm new! TTC baby 1 and am feeling a bit overwhelmed, just getting my head around ovulation and everything else I need to learn

@Meenabeena yup it's another fertility app! The reason I really like it is I can add my OPK photos to it (strip or the digital ones) - so it's useful to see the progression of the line (like the photo I posted below).

@LokiCat Glow was the only app I have reinstated as I was using 2 or 3 before and it was too much upkeep 😂plus it seemed to work last time 👌🏻

@MrsEG is it nice though? I'm not sure I could stomach it 😂

@MrsEG pagan ritual - love it. Timed pineapple core consumption, dedicated post coital positions and cursing the heavens above at the sight of blood. It certainly feels like one!!!! Enjoy your freebie sides and desserts - that sounds like actual heaven. We're off to the spa (birthday treat).

@LokiCat Tbf I've been drinking a lot - but that still seems ridiculous.

@Meenabeena I used clue and I'm pretty sure it's pretty useless for my ovulation days (but my periods range from 27 days - 25 days so could be why).

@talljelly for what it's worth, the "ovulation happens on day 14" stuff is a complete myth. Totally depends on your cycle. Fingers crossed for a stable one!

That's a point actually, my cycles have been varying between 25, 27, 29 and 34 days. The two apps that I use (Womanlog and Fertility Friend) seem to average these cycles out to 28 days which is obviously very unhelpful.

Are there any apps out there that apply a bit more nuance to cycles?

Hi ladies, a bit of a recent reader of these threads but hoping to join for some TTC chat!

My stats: 28, cycle 8, and 11DPO.

I thought I was pretty clued up on tracking BBT but from reading this, I did not know half of what I thought I did!! Hope it’s ok that I join in the chat and happy Friday

@lozzlepop thank you 😊 I am worried that I have some problems. At the moment, I am under gynae. For years I've had really heavy periods to the point of passing huge clots and having to wear double sanitary protection. Really bad pains, not only in my tummy but also down my thighs, back etc. Painful sex and pain when I go to the toilet. I didn't really do anything about it though, just dosed up on painkillers and hot water bottles, never thought about how it could affect my fertility. In Jan though, I had this pain in my side, and I went to my GP, as I was worried it was something sinister. After investigation, ultrasound etc, it turns out I have a haemmoraghic cyst on my ovary and my GP strongly suspects endometriosis. My gynae consultant however disagrees. I'm booked in for a hysteroscopy in June, hopefully I'll get some answers. But yeah, that's why I think I've got problems, the age alone thing doesn't bother me, plenty people get pregnant in mid/late 30s. I guess we'll just keep trying and see how it works out. Fingers crossed for all of us!

I have thought about charting it - but not sure if im getting to ahead of myself considering I’m only on cycle one, would i have to get a certain thermometer?

@MrsEG - I’m a live in Nanny during the week so I don’t think they will want my Fiancè to turn up on the doorstep 🤣

@LokiCat - I think we may need to get up earlier if I’m ovulating that week when I’m away - but pleased to know that the apps aren’t always correct!

@Emly welcome! We have similar stats (I'm 28, cycle 9 - thought currently on CD4). Out of interest what have you learnt about BBT? I've literelly just started! Oh and yes, happy Friday!

@michellelouise1982 just wanted to say really sorry you've had to go through all that, it sounds incredibly tough. Hope you get your answers in June.

@PippaPug forgot you're only on cycle 1! Yeah I'd not worry too much at this stage about doing everything. You do need a certain thermometer. I didn't realise and ended up having to order two!! It's a BBT one - I got mine on amazon prime for about £15 prime. Also LOL at your fiance turning up at their door ready to go

@purplefig I’ve been using the Natural Cycles app since coming off the pill last summer. I’ve tracked the length of my cycles and they vary between 26-29 days with ovulation usually day 14-16. It’s been good to see how my temp rises and drops but I’ve not really ventured into OPKs yet. Like some of the others on the thread it would be difficult for me to test at work during the day and I don’t want to set myself up to fail - if that makes sense!
We’ll see what this cycle brings I guess and then I might look at trying to track ovulation more closely

Any other app that I should be using to track fertility or are they all pretty similar?

@Emly Great that your cycles are pretty consistent. If you can confirm you've ovulated with a temp drop, I personally don't see the point in OPKs. But that might just be because I hate the finicky little bastards!! They seem so temperamental and I hate having to avoid weeing/drinking in the afternoon. Especially when it's negative - all that effort for nothing!

I use Fertility Friend to track BBT - no complaints but I'm only one day in so far though . Otherwise I used Clue, and that's been fairly clueless at guessing ovulation. It's got the last 9 months of cycle history on it though, so useful for that.

@purplefig I've always used Clue and it's spot on with period every month. I've never paid attention to the ovulation tracker so I don't know how accurate it is. Last month was the first time using OPK and I got the smiley face 3 days before Clue had predicted ovulation. Going to see how this month compares. Have you switched to something else? Someone mentioned Glow, going to have a look at that.

Ladies can you make sense of this mess?

I've attached a pic below of yesterday's positive OPK and today's negative (left).
I caught my surge and so I assumed ovulation would be today/tomorrow. The day(s) after the positive.

So why on earth did my temp rocket today and suggest i ovulated yesterday?
Can you ovulate the same day as a surge?

I thought originally that I'd caught the tail end of the surge as it was coming down and I ovulated late last night or very early this morning. But my Dark neg OPK has thrown me off. Maybe TODAY i caught it coming down.

I'm frustrated and my bloody cramps and nausea are NOT helping my mood lol.

Pass me a bucket of chocolate please😫

Sorry ladies. Ignore my last post. I've done another google and you CAN ovulate same day. It's happened to me before too. So not unusual for me I guess.

Morning ladies! I used to be on here a couple of threads ago but decided to have a break as I was made redundant and wasn't obviously the best time to TTC. I now have a new job which I love and even though we haven't been trying I feel kinda hopeful this cycle but don't want to as I know it's silly to get your hopes up. I had EWCM for the first time ever (never noticed before TTC). So we DTD. I haven't tested for ovulation or anything as we are trying to take things easy. But I have been having little twinges for days now and odd sensations in my BBs. Also pee'd a lot yesterday 😂. Here are my stats

Age - 28
12 DPO - I'm guessing could be less due AF in 5 days
1 MMC

A part of me wants to test (just with ICs) just to get it out my system but then I don't know if I'm being silly.

Also I see some familiar names and new names, hope everyone is doing well 😘

Fingers crossed if you’re retesting today but I see a line on yesterday’s - I think being the OP/thread starter on these threads is good luck too Have to admit I’m also tempted by the pineapple core now, but I feel like between SMEP and OPKs I’m already pretty ott considering we’ve not been trying long...

Currently hiding in my MIL’s spare room, DH is asleep. Would usually go downstairs but due to SMEP every other day rule, we DTD last night and I’m now paranoid she heard us....

DH pointed out yesterday before we went to bed that frankly, if we told her we were ttc she’d probably send us upstairs and tell us to make as much noise as we wanted so I don’t know why I’m being so awkward. But still...

@michellelouise1982 sounds like you have been having a rough time. Yeah from the pain etc you have mentioned my love of online google searches had pointed me towards endometriosis in terms of pain when going to the toilet, hopefully you’ll get some answers soon, at least you can have lots of fun trying until then ☺️
