Hi everyone! I’ve started a new thread as we are dangerously close to 1000 posts in the last one! I’ll add a link to it now :) Here’s hoping it’s a lucky one!

@MrsEG of course, that makes total sense. It sounds like you've absolutely smashed it out of the park this month, a very well earned BFP if ever I saw one Grin. Sending you the absolute best wishes and positive vibes for this one. Now, please do excuse me... googles pineapple core ovulation Grin

MrsEG · 10/05/2019 11:54

@purplefig I felt so ridiculous doing it!! Who knows if it did anything at all! Oh, I also then ate 3 Brazil nuts a day from 1-10DPO... honestly DH thinks I’ve lost the plot. Google pineapple and Brazil nuts for conception!!

Thanks everyone, you’ve been lovely and it’s really helped! X

purplefig · 10/05/2019 12:00

@MrsEG I've actually got some Brazil nuts as I had heard of that one! Tried to make the husband eat one daily, but he keeps forgetting (and likely also thinks I'm bonkers). I might just accept it and try the core thing, why not?! Is it absolutely rank??

*@ELW85 * I'm glad to hear that. If podcasts are your thing, next time you're feeling low you might like to try 'Fertile Ground'. It's all about the mind body connection in fertility. I personally have found it great for getting my mindset right. But it is a bit....American (well, technically, Canadian), if you know what I mean. She repeatedly refers to listeners (TTCers) as 'mamabears' Hmm and swears a lot, but the overall message is pretty solid and it's definitely helped me calm the feck down.

LokiCat · 10/05/2019 13:06

@MrsEG I forgot you had the pineapple core this cycle! If I don't get a bfp, I'll definitely be looking at that next cycle - it obviously worked 😆 well done you, all that effort paid off!

@ELW85 sorry you're feeling so down, ttc can become very emotional and stressful. I think we've all had points where it's just got too much, so you're more than welcome to vent to us.
I can't help on the cycles, as mine have always been irregular (ranging from 36-45 days). From what I've read and what my GP said to me, as long as you are ovulating, it shouldn't matter too much about cycle length (but I know it can be worrying if something so regular changes suddenly!). I hope you have a relaxing weekend ahead - take some time for yourself xx

@purplefig ooh afternoon tea and spa sounds lovely! I'd love a good massage and facial right now, with some clotted cream and scones on the side 🙊
We're having date night tonight! DH has booked dinner at a restaurant so looking forward to that.

So I've just started getting some EWCM, wonder if it means I haven't actually ovulated yet, even though I sort of got a positive.. so confusing!!

purplefig · 10/05/2019 13:12

@LokiCat Dinner date night sounds perfect tonight. Could wrap it up with a bit of you know what Wink? Did you do an OPK that looked positive? Because tbh I think they're absolute bastards to read. I think an almost positive can so easily look positive.

ELW85 · 10/05/2019 13:29

Thank you so much everyone; you’re all amazing ladies and we’re lucky to have each other!
Have a wonderful weekend, all xx

LokiCat · 10/05/2019 13:48

@purplefig that's what I'm hoping for Grin
Not really, after my 'positive' it started getting light again. So assumed I got my positive. I've attached the OPKs from the last 3 days. The one with the arrow is possibly my positive. They've been so light this cycle whereas previously it's been a very obvious positive..

Will do another one when I get home. Was running late this morning so didn't get a chance to!

TTC 1st Baby - Thread 17!
purplefig · 10/05/2019 13:52

@LokiCat aghrrr this is why I hate OPKs, they are such finicky things to read. I would previously have thought your arrow one was a positive, but I'm not sure. It kind of looks like maybe it's gearing back up again? Doesn't that happen sometimes - your body goes to ovulate and then it changes it mind?

Out of interest - do you normally do with FMU?? Part of what put me off was the whole not weeing for ages / not drinking / afternoon testing.

PippaPug · 10/05/2019 13:59

Hi all,
Wondering if I can ask a question, when is the best time to use a OPK? Is there one?!

We are only on cycle one, but I tend to work away 3 nights a week so we are trying to work out when I ovulate for the best time possible. I also work 10/12 hours a day if that matters at all!

@MrsEG - I also see a line!

LokiCat · 10/05/2019 14:05

@purplefig yeah I wouldn't be surprised. When I first started testing this cycle I had that twice where it started to get dark and then got light againi. I think this is why I'll switch to the digital ones if I don't get a bfp!

No, this is the first cycle I've used FMU actually and only continued as they seemed to be the darkest ones! Previously it's always been after work. I imagine afternoon is best then?

@PippaPug I'm still trying to figure that out! A lot of ladies here seem to take a receptacle to work and test around lunchtime which seems like a good idea. I unfortunately work with eagle eyed police officers, so don't want to risk it! 😂

Meenabeena · 10/05/2019 14:06

@PippaPug I'd suggest afternoon (2pm)

purplefig · 10/05/2019 14:22

@LokiCat they are irritating! Because they're also bound to vary according to timings / how much you've drank etc. I might try some with FMU this cycle, as at least that would be the same each day at least.

@PippaPug I think you're ideally supposed to do it in the afternoon having not wee'd for a few hours or ideally drank much. But that can obviously be a bit tricky to keep up.

In other related news, my Pregnacare vitamins arrived (thanks, Prime). Pretty big but easy to swallow (LOL)...excited to see if I get #pregnacarepee.

PippaPug · 10/05/2019 14:46

@LokiCat - ok great! I work with children so easier to get away with (if I get to go to the bathroom alone!)

@Meenaneena - Ok I will try that instead, I have been doing it around 9pm, but guessing that’s too late?

@purplefig - oh I read somewhere you neeed to drink more then normal to help concieve - this is a minefield!

I don’t get pregnacarepee - mine is just normal, I feel left out!

Meenabeena · 10/05/2019 14:46

@purplefig mine just came too 😁

purplefig · 10/05/2019 14:50

@PippaPug it can be a total minefield. I guess if you're feeling overwhelmed just try and remember that if you have sex every 2 to 3 days throughout the month, you should be covered. I'm only doing so much this month because it's cycle 9!

@Meenabeena let's hope it works for us!! @PippaPug** tbh it's probably a good thing, as I'm guessing the colour is just excreting what the body doesn't use?

PippaPug · 10/05/2019 14:57

@PurpleFig

Problem is that I work away Monday - Thursday, leave very early Monday and back very late Thursday and partner works unpredictable hours on Friday (can be up really early and back late) according to my app I’m ovulating next weekend - when my Fiancé is on his stag do weekend 🙄🙄
Just think it’s going to take us a while due to work patterns sadly!

purplefig · 10/05/2019 15:05

@PippaPug sorry I just totally missed your first comment about being away for 3 nights at a time, of course you'll need to be a bit more aware of ovulation dates in that case - sorry if I seemed flippant! Re: the app predictions, I really wouldn't pay too much attention to them, as they really are pretty loose guides and unless you have a clockwork like period, I personally don't find them very useful.

Like you say, it might just take you a few more cycles to catch ovulation with your tricky schedules. For now I think OPKs are a great idea (directions for when to take / how much to limit drink etc. should come with the pack you buy).

Have you considered charting your BBT? I've completely avoided it for the last 9 months as it felt a bit too much for me, but right now I'm willing to give anything a go! I've also surprised to learn it's actually not much of a faff - you just stick a thermometer in your mouth the moment you wake up and record the temp. The idea is that after you ovulate it goes up, thus you can confirm you've ovulated. Could be useful for your schedule, as it's done first thing.

starkid · 10/05/2019 15:12

@PippaPug - I do mine at about 6pm when I get home :)
@LokiCat - were they 1 done each day? The one that looks closest to positive might have been positive if you did another the same day an couple of hours later. Mine don't often gear up for it, just POW there it is haha

Lozzlepop · 10/05/2019 15:53

@michellelouise1982 hello and welcome to the thread 😁I'm 35 and was on BC since my teens (on and off) and we caught after the second attempt before the MMC so I wouldn't worry too much about age, is there something making you think there could be underlying issues?

@ELW85 sometimes its just one of those things, as I think someone else mentioned its not uncommon for you to miss an OV. I would persevere with the OPKs as when I was using them before they would be negative and then BANG from nowhere it was go time 😂

@MrsEG I like your style, coming at it from all angles, fingers crossed fro a sticky bean 🤞🏻

@purplefig nothing better than a spa, the afternoon tea is an added bonus :)

@LokiCat have a lovely date night, I used to do my OPKs in the evening, I still find them confusing so I rely on Glow telling me if its positive or not 😂

purplefig · 10/05/2019 15:58

@Lozzlepop thanks - it was a very generous present from a friend!

Pregnacare update: my pee is already bright yellow....... Shock

MrsEG · 10/05/2019 16:00

@purplefig @LokiCat It wasn’t bad to be honest! I just cut a few big slices but kept the core on rather than cut it off which made it more palatable - DH just stared at me as if I was in some form of pagan ritual!! Hope you both enjoy your lovely sounding dates!!

All the OPK chat, I just find them impossible to read it’s why I use the CB digital ones - idiot proof for idiots like me!!

@PippaPug A friend of mine works away - her DH has to sometimes plan visits and stay with her a day or so when ovulating, could that be an option?

@Lozzlepop Thank you! Ha yes I looked at it like a project, tried to tick every box - for all I know it made zero difference but at least I like the taste of Brazil nuts haha!

Has everyone got nice weekend plans? We are booked at a nice restaurant this weekend for a treat, and found out today the manager is a friend of DH! So he’s gonna comp a load of sides and desserts - I’m such a foodie so this is music to my ears (and belly)!! Have a good one ladies and enjoy all the BDing those in the fertile week!

OP posts:
LokiCat · 10/05/2019 16:13

@purplefig wow they work fast! 😂

@Lozzlepop thanks! I follow Glow on whether it's positive or not, as well. Glow put the maybe positive on the highest level, so I went with it!

@starkid no, this cycle I've been doing one in the morning and then one as soon as I get home. The one later in the day came out really light, hence the confusion. On my way home now, so will see what today's says!

@PippaPug My apps always put me down ovulating a week before I actually ovulate (my cycles are irregular though) so testing will be more reliable I think.
We ended up missing the days last cycle as DH was working night shifts/long hours during ovulation period, so I know how it can be. I left work slightly earlier this week to catch DH an hour before he left for his shift. Could something like that work?

@MrsEG I used to really like pineapples but went off them for a bit. Will try again though for the TTC cause!
Thanks! Your restaurant date sounds brilliant, right up my alley with the comped sides and desserts - me and DH always end up getting one of most sides/starters when we go out to eat! I'm even more excited for tonight now, more-so for the food rather than the romantic date 😂
Hope you have a great time!

Lozzlepop · 10/05/2019 16:17

@purplefig how lovely ❤️

@MrsEG hehe us ladies go to some lengths to get what we want thats for sure! I have always imagined the core to be a bit that you wouldn't eat?

We are going to a friends tonight for takeaway and games night 🙈I have the car so hopefully it wont be a late one, then tomorrow I have a friend coming round who has been away travelling and I haven't seen her in a year and a half! Quiet apart from that, probably go visit the OHs dad as he was in having an operation today! Oh this meal sounds right up my street 😋

Meenabeena · 10/05/2019 16:22

@LokiCat what's glow? Is it an app?
I'm using Clue to track periods. I find it pretty good and it also shows ovulation days. Though I'm not sure how accurate it is for ovulation.
