TTC for 1 year +

Does anyone want to join?

I have been TTC #1 for 15 months and had a MC at 8 weeks in February.
I am off to the GP tomorrow to try and get a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist.
Tried every trick and tip and old wives tale in the book to get a bfp!
It would be good to have a group of longer term ttcers to chat to.

@RosettaR when is your acupuncture appointment. I had to change mine to the end of the month.

I've had my referral through and got a cancellation for this Friday which is good. I want to make notes and ask the endocrinologist all these questions I have about TSH levels. The GP seems to think that it has nothing to do with ttc. Everywhere I read it suggests it needs to be between 2.5 and 5.

RosettaR · 05/08/2019 17:44

@Headswim the irritability sounds interesting, when is AF due? I try not to symptom spot now though, I've had too much false hope.

@Mrs71 my appointment is on 15 August. I'm feeling good about it, the NHS even recognises acupuncture does help with certain things (not fertility though) so there must be something in it.

My clinic used 0.27 to 4.2 as the reference range for TSH, so you might not be as far off normal as you think. It seems different places use different references though, just like for AMH, which is confusing. It's good that you're going to an endocrinologist, hopefully they will explain everything for you.

Mrs71 · 05/08/2019 20:07

@RosettaR I'm feeling good about my acupuncture too. My first one is on the 23rd Aug.
My TSH level is 0.03 I just keep thinking maybe this is the reason that I'm not pregnant yet! I just don't know.

KatBeCool · 05/08/2019 21:31

@Headswim you were very persistent with that post 😁

So, as expected, the consultant proclaimed my low progesterone as me not ovulating. My next step - IUI. Clomid plus FSH injections, plus trigger shot. Well at least they'll force me to ovulate.

Broodyaf · 05/08/2019 22:38

Hey all, just checking back in

@Headswim - I done the same thing as u and posted a dozen times on a different thread this morning. Mumsnet have fixed the problem now - there's duplicates all over the place

@KatBeCool - ur cycles are regular aren't they? I had it in my head that to not be ovulating, most likely ur cycles would be irregular, but mine are always regular so maybe I'm not actually ovulating either. I'll find out when I get my 21day bloods repeated on Wednesday
Great that they have found the problem and can treat it quickly for you - 🤞 Ul have ur bfp soon x

KatBeCool · 05/08/2019 22:56

@Broodyaf the consultant dismissed being regular, and getting positive opks, and temp rise, and sore boobs as it is irrelevant for the next steps. But shrugged that it can be either way that I'm having low progesterone or not ovulating. I'm going to be on progesterone after IUI anyway. One thing I can say is that get your tests done asap.

FlapJackered · 05/08/2019 23:19

@KatBeCool that's frustrating the consultant dismissed all the signs that you are ovulating, although in a way being able to move forward with a new plan of action sounds positive. How are you feeling about it? Will they do it on your next cycle?

Acht sorry for the double post, I have got the same problem as headswim! Obviously something going on with the app.

@Mrs71 that's great you got an appointment so quickly, hopefully they will be more knowledgable about low tsh.

@KatBeCool I'm on the waiting list for fertility clinic, so kinda in limbo land atm
I'm going to ask GP to do day3 bloods to test AMH & TSH so I will go to fertility clinic with as much done as possible to speed things up as I feel my clock ticking!
I get positive OPKs every cycle too and a regular cycle, but v little CM, no ovulation pains so I just don't know

How r u feeling about IUI?

KatBeCool · 06/08/2019 00:33

@Mrs71 for every day life TSH between 0.5 and 4.5 is normal, but for TTC ideally you want it between 1 and 2. Thankfully, my GP knew that and put me on levothyroxine way before I went to the fertility clinic. It was 4.81.

Mrs71 · 06/08/2019 01:52

@KatBeCool if you get referred to the fertility clinic with low TSH can this cause problems then? I won't get referred for a least another 6 months as the GP said I have to be ttc for nearly 2 years before he can refer me! I feel like every time I speak about it with my GP he fobs me off. Hopefully the consultant will know more.

Something definitely going on here, I missed some posts, others are showing up ten times.

@Mrs71 I think it depends on the consultant. Neither my consultant nor my OB were bothered by higher TSH. But my GP was. You just have to keep pushing for retest and the meds. Your GP sounds like the one @FlapJackered had who wanted her to be ttc for two years. There are those who make you wait only a year.

@Broodyaf I'm excited for more than just trying without any success. The prospect of needles doesn't excite me, but sounds like it might be easier than I think as it's subcutaneous.

@FlapJackered they will be doing it on my next cycle. It should start sometime this week, I can't be more ready. It'll be the best birthday gift for me. But AF need to come like right now for it to be possible to get a bfp on my birthday. How are you doing? Should be 11/12 DPO. All my symptoms are gone, so AF must be near.

Mrs71 · 06/08/2019 10:00

Oops sorry about posting ten time! I defiantly think something's not right. I can't see some posts either.

@KatBeCool I hope you get your BFP in time for your birthday. 💕 least things are going forward for you. Did you go NHS or private?
Gp said that everything is fine in the blood tests apart from the TSH and guidelines are that we have to wait 2 years before being referred although he did say come back around November time to get the ball rolling before it hits 2 years. I feel really nervous about it and I'm not sure how I feel I so hope I get my BFP before then.
I don't know whether to pay for the HSG privately now. I have been looking but I'm also really scared as I've read some horror stories.

@KatBeCool that's great they can start it so soon! I will keep everything crossed for you!
I am 12dpo and I am as sure as I can be that I am not pregnant. All normal AF signs are here. We are seeing our nhs consultant on 20th though so hopefully we will get some answers and a plan of action then.

@Mrs71 HsG is the only thing I haven't had either. I am scared too as I have heard some people find it really painful! 😬

Hi all, how is everyone?
Just finished AF which has been a particularly miserable one!!

Can someone recommend good cheapie opk's?
I don't think I will be much good at temping 🙈 and can't afford the expensive ones anymore!

Got the docs on Friday to get referred to
The fertility clinic.

Fingers crossed for you @KatBeCool ❤️

@bunhead34 thank you! Cheap opks are mostly the same. It'll literally be the first thing you find on Amazon if you search.

@FlapJackered @Mrs71 HSG experience varies for everyone. For me, it was absolute horror, but it wasn't helping that I couldn't relax, which is crucial but my body didn't agree with me. But it was over in two minutes, and I lived. Don't be too scared, it's bearable. Just relax, literally force your muscles to relax, breath deep, and take a handful of ibuprofen two hours prior.

@Mrs71 everything is private as I'm 40.
So your GP agrees that TSH is too low but won't do anything about it? I think you need a new gp.

Mrs71 · 06/08/2019 20:05

@KatBeCool how painful was it like you wanted to die? 😂 I can't take pain and I'm so worried about this already. I'm thinking maybe if I go private they might be nicer to me? 😳 I know it's only 2 mins but if it's that bad 2 mins is a really long time.

Yes so my GP said your TSH levels are low and he's not too sure what to do about it. That's why he's referred me to the endocrinologist. I said to him I'm worried this is causing a barrier for me not being able to conceive he said I'm worrying about nothing. 🙄 Least he's referred me to the endocrinologist who will be able to answer all my questions so I'm actually feeling really positive about the appointment and I'm so lucky that I've got one so quick!

@bunhead34 I brought some from amazon, just cheap ones with a little green strip on the end. Sometimes can be hard to read though.

@FlapJackered are you thinking about having the HSG done too?
