Is it me or does number 2 seem to take longer to conceive?

sassenach I remember you saying you weren't in the uk, are you in the states? 12 week scan feels a long way away for me, I had early scans with DD (5.5 and 7 weeks because of a 6 day heavy bleed at 4weeks) and in retrospect I think that was why I was so relaxed about the pregnancy.

explorers good luck for Tuesday, hope you get some answers and support for moving forwards whatever the outcome.

chemist I know how ridiculous to continue POAS, but I'd bought about a million of them from Amazon and I hate waste! You're experience of morning sickness has really put my nausea in perspective, did you have hypremisis? I lost quite a bit of weight in the first trimester last time as felt too sick to eat, but wasn't ever actually sick.

Chips4dinneragain · 05/05/2019 16:31

And hello to all the newcomers, good luck!

I'm not on the right page and can't remember who asked about vitamins, but I was taking a b50 vitamin complex from H+B for 3 months and 1000mg Vit C from boots for 1 month before I got my BFP

sassenach84 · 05/05/2019 16:48

@Seahawk80 it definitely sounds like
PCOS makes things very random! But on the positive side your sisters seem to have eventually (with some help) managed to conceive? Gives hope that you will in time too. PCOS seems to be surprisingly common just based on the number of people who mentioned it on MN boards...

@Ballygowenwater in that case I hope he OPKs don't turn positive till you're with DH again

@Chips4dinneragain I'm in the UAE which has a healthcare system like the US, all private, consultant led etc. I was in Dublin when I had DD and there you get one scan at 20weeks and that's it! So I had an early scan with DD at 8 weeks which calmed down. I have a friend who had a MMC around the same time so I've always been particularly concerned about that. She went for a scan and baby had stopped growing several weeks before which just seems like such a terrible and sad thing to happen :-(

Yorkshiredolls · 05/05/2019 17:25

Hello ladies stepping on board ☺️ so excited to be finially TTC baby #2! cycle no.1. DD is 2y7m. a bit unsure of cycle day. actually, AF was due friday and i had a couple of episodes heavy spotting/light bleeding last week but it’s not actually started yet properly. seems to have just wr gone away. I think seven seas vits has buggered up my cycle! so i’m unsure whether AF is still coming or whether i’m now in a new cycle Confused

Explorers10 · 05/05/2019 18:28

@seahawk80

I’m pleased it’s all worked out for your sisters too, really hope you get your 2nd! Thanks for sharing, I’m going to keep trying and see what happens and see this as positive that I found out about it now and that it work out in the end.

@sassenach84 and @chipsfordinneragain thanks for the good luck. I think I’m now fed up of waiting around and just want to get the scan results to be able to move forward. Hope both your pregnancies are going well

Oh @sassenach84 can I ask you a few qs about pregnancy and birth in Ireland please? Did you go private? I think there is a high likelihood we will be in ireland by the time any baby no 2 arrives.

sassenach84 · 06/05/2019 04:42

@Ballygowenwater Yes sure. It was a bit overwhelming when they presented me with options and it was hard to find proper, accurate information anywhere about each one. I think that's because Ireland doesn't have an NHS equivalent yet maternity care is offered for free so it's a bit lacking in terms of organisation.

I could have gone private as it was covered by my insurance and would have allowed me to have a private room (subject to availability). However, private was consultant led and I wanted midwife led. In addition, I lived quite far from Holles St (National Maternity Hospital) which I would have had to go to for each consultant appointment, whereas they offered community midwife appointments near me so another reason why I opted for public.

Midwife-led also had the option of early release if everything went ok and I was home in less than 24h. In the end it was actually amazing as the early release meant they sent a midwife to our house every day for 5 days which was the best part as we had no idea what we were doing and had a list of questions ready for her each time Smile

The post-natal public ward was fine, I had 3 others in my room but didn't really care since I pretty much just slept the night and then went home with DD after all the check-ups in the morning.

I think those are the only real differences between public and private in my case and in any case the private room isn't guaranteed. I was super happy with the care I got from the midwifes.

Any other questions let me know!

Seahawk80 · 06/05/2019 07:14

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

I feel a bit bad about this as I've only just joined the thread and I feel like it's a bit "bad form" but I did a test this morning and I'm pregnant!! I'm really in shock as we only DTD twice over the FW and it's been our most half hearted try in 8 months!

Because of pcos my cycle can be quite irregular- normally 33 days but last month 39 days so I tend to test a day or 2 after AF is due so that I can stop getting my hopes up, I was fully expecting the usual blank white BFN! I did another one just to check! First one is fmu and second is an hour later.

I was so excited to find a TTC2 thread as it is very different to no 1 - just wish I'd found you guys months ago!

Explorers10 · 06/05/2019 09:23

@seahawk80 wow that’s amazing!! Congratulations! You can enjoy your holiday! Don’t feel bad about just joining, you have given me hope that despite pcos you can get pregnant.

OP posts:
Seahawk80 · 06/05/2019 09:41

Thanks @Explorers10 - my understanding is that pcos doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the quality of your eggs but you may not always ovulate or timing of ovulation can be a bit random, so it can just take a bit longer.

Def ask about metformin. I think it has worked for me, I found it fine to take and the only side effect I had was if I ate lots of rich food, but you can always have a few days break if you are going on holiday or have a special occasion and might eat a rich meal

Explorers10 · 06/05/2019 10:00

@seahawk80 Thank you, I have to be positive as I’ve already have 1 child and I’m on cycle 5 so still early days. I will ask GP about metformin. Booked an appointment with a different GP this time round as the last one told me that was it no more children and ivf. If ok, can I private message you on here so that I can ask you more questions about pcos?

OP posts:
Seahawk80 · 06/05/2019 10:32

@Explorers10 of course! Sounds like a good plan using a different GP, just because you can't have IVF for no 2 doesn't mean they can't give you any fertility treatment/ advice! Send me a pm when you can - I'm off out now for a few hours but will reply this evening. I've called in sick for work because I'm not well enough to help with out of ours cover with this cold but going to sneak out to a local soapbox derby with DH and DS to a local soapbox derby!

sassenach84 · 06/05/2019 13:43

Wow @Seahawk80 congratulations! What a lucky thread we have for all those TTC #2 for 6+ months! So far you're the third and all of us were convinced we were out as some were unsure OV dates and myself I thought we'd DTD too early before OV but still managed to get a BFP.

What EDD do you get - knowing it might be a bit of a lottery with PCOS? Mine is somewhere between 25 Dec and 1 Jan, but most likely 1 Jan as I know when I OVd and I have long'ish cycles. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do about due dates here following scans. Mine didn't change in Ireland even though I think it was set as 5-6 days too early given my cycle length. During the pregnancy it doesn't matter so much but I've always thought that once you get to the end and if you're overdue and they're talking about induction then the 5 day difference would be significant. I wouldn't want to be induced if I'm fact I was only a week overdue...

Chips4dinneragain · 06/05/2019 14:07

Congrats seahawk, lovely news!

explorers dont know if it's possible at your surgery but when I had my first fertility appointment I asked to see a GP with a specialist interest in fertility, she seemed to really know her stuff and was really helpful so I carried on seeing her. I've had some awful GPs in the so know how frustrating it is when they give you questionable info.

Seahawk80 · 06/05/2019 15:50

@sassenach84 thank you! And congratulations!

I get 5th January or 8th if I adjust it but from memory last time they didn't adjust it. I was induced on my due date with DS as I had a low hormone which is vaguely linked to placenta failing towards the end and it was recommended. I went for a sweep a few days before and they couldn't even do it, labour didn't progress and when he came out he was quite small with lots of vernix so I think those few days do make a big difference. I'm actually planning to have a c section this time as I had an emcs last time and if I have the low hormone again I'd need to be induced on due date which they don't recommend after a c section so baby might even be here this year!

sassenach84 · 06/05/2019 17:05

@Seahawk80 Yes exactly! I would not want to be induced just because they think baby is two weeks overdue when it's in fact only one. A new year bubba would be lovely for you!

MummyBearBoo · 06/05/2019 17:12

Congratulations @Seahawk80 amazing news - @Explorers10 -I am on cycle 5 and I have PCOS it doesn't really affect that much for me I've been pregnant twice (have 1 DD and a little boy but had to end that pg for Medical Reasons at 12 weeks) I've had a CP my last 2 cycles so i can get pregnant - I was overweight but since losing 1st 8lb I'm back in normal weight range I don't have spots or facial hair either!! The only thing is my cycles are 42 days (4 weeks between first day of period and ovulation) but the GP doesn't think that is related to PCOS coz they are really regular!
Currently on 14 dpo AF was due today but I expect it will start later or tomorrow it does usually start in the morning so it's just being evil and being late coz I fully expect it to come!! If it's still not arrived after a week that is when I'll test coz my first CP I did it the day after my missed period and got a BFP but 3 days later a BFN and started bleeding the day after - I'd rather not know if I have another CP! Xxx

Explorers10 · 06/05/2019 19:01

@chips4dinneragain

You are so right, I need to go for GP that has more of an interest in fertility. Really hope the one I got booked in with is going to be much better

@mummybearboo thanks for sharing your experience with pcos. I so wonder if I will be able to conceive again. I reckon I’ve just gone into panic mode & was just shocked what the gp said. Good luck TTC number 2. Very sorry to hear about your DS and CPs

@seahawk80 thank you will message you, hope you had a good day at the derby

Trying to conceive number 2. DD born Feb 2017. In Oct 18 I had a surgical TFMR. The events of last year hunt us both still. Terrified of getting pregnant and terrified of not getting pregnant. It's a strange place to be.

MummyBearBoo · 06/05/2019 22:43

I feel your pain my DD was born Jan 2016 and had a medical TFMR following by loads of complications started in Dec 2017 finished in Mar 2018 - we only have a 50/50 chance of having a healthy baby and not having to go thru TFMR again- but we feel ready now - we can't have a PGD (IVF with genetic testing) as we already have a 'normal child' so we are not entitled to help with funding and In the whole of England the cost is £15k per cycle (that was last year and it usually goes up every year) and has a 1 in 3 success rate that potentially £45k!! Time helps heal!! Xx

MummyBearBoo · 07/05/2019 07:04

So I took these this morning i just really hope it'll last longer than 4 days I was determined not to test til it missed by a week but I didn't want to kill it at the gym if I was pregnant if it does make it to 11 weeks then I've got to hope it got the good chromosome 19 and I can continue with the pregnancy - have to get there first - I was so convinced it hadn't worked this month coz I didn't get a positive OPK I had a really strong line on Easter Monday but not enough to be positive?
