Spring is in the air and it's time for a new thread!

Basically: a wonderful bunch of ladies supporting each other through the TTC journey when trying for a first baby after 35.

Here's hoping we get some spring BFP luck for all of us!! 🍀🐣🍀🐣

Hi'ya @wannabemum38 - not sure which brand you've got there, but for the result to be considered BFP on most strip tests the test line has to be as dark as or darker than the control line. So what you've got there is more likely a negative result, if that makes sense? Most strip tests also tell you not to use FMU but to test between 10am & 8pm (when the LH surge is supposedly more likely to show up). Make sure you hold your wee and limit your fluids for at least 2 hours before you test as well. Hope this helps.x

@BambiOnIce80 Oh on the test it has that 2 dark lines or a dark and faint line is a positive bit like a pregnancy test. I will test again tomorrow see what it says thanks :)

PixieN · 02/07/2019 18:37

Hi ladies, hope you’re all well.

Just typed out another reply and lost it again. Grrr! @BambiOnIce80
My DH was o.k about the news. Think I was more surprised than him, as even though he’s older than me, he’s so much fitter and more active than me. I was just expecting everything to be o.k in his case. We’ve had a letter where the consultant has recommended DH takes proxeed or fertilix. Anyone know anything about these? I checked on Amazon and you can pay over £40 for just a months supply 😱 I’ve got him back on the Wellman tablets for now and both of us are trying to cut back on drinking (which is soooo hard!)

@79andnotout Great news about being fast tracked Smile I think i’ve Just about got my head around the fact that things are suddenly happening quickly for us too!

Hope you’re having a great holiday @QuantumGirl

Welcome to the thread @wannabemum38

Carley321 · 02/07/2019 20:39

That’s shit news about missing the sunshine but at least it sounds as if you had a good night beforehand?
December will be here before you know it. After spring is over the winter seems to come thick and fast. I bet it will fly by!

Good luck ladies. I’m feeling rather anxious but excited for you all. I’m so glad you are all heading in a positive direction 🍀

BambiOnIce80 · 03/07/2019 07:41

I've looked at those before @PixieN and nearly started hyperventilating at the price! 💊 😰 I'd definitely go with what you're doing and stick with the Wellman vits 👍 If the crazy expensive ones were that effective, they'd be being prescribed on the NHS at IVF clinics! And agree about the cutting back on the booze sucking 😏 My plan is to stop in September before our first IVF appointment... DP is already pretty saintly with the booze consumption as it is, but I know I'm going to struggle 🍸😭 Let us know when you get a date 🙂

Don't you be getting anxious for us as well as yourself @Carley32! 😂 And you're absolutely right - I'm pretty sure I'll blink and it'll be December already. How are you getting on with organising the lap? Are you sticking with the NHS or are you going to go for it with the private clinic?x

OP posts:
Carley321 · 03/07/2019 08:49

I know 🙈 god help me! Lol.

I had a free follow up appointment at the private clinic we went to a few months so I’ve booked that just for a chat and to get a specialist opinion. We will prob go from there and take their advice.

My body has proper played tricks on me this month too. Had brown spotting for 4 days now so although I knew deep down I wasn’t i still had a niggle of could it be .....
But no took a test this morning bfn on CD30 😡.

I struggle with the booze. We have cut down loads though. We literally have a few glasses of wine on either a Friday or a Sat (unless we are out of course). Does it really make that much of a difference? Especially when stress is a big factor and alcohol certainly helps with that lol.

Carley321 · 03/07/2019 08:49

@BambiOnIce80 🤦‍♀️

Carley321 · 03/07/2019 08:49

@PixieN

BambiOnIce80 · 03/07/2019 10:22

Studies show that drinking doesn't seem to have much impact on fertility @Carley321, but I guess it's more that if you're having IVF then you might end up preggers and booze is then a bit of a no-no 😜

That's good news about your appointment 🙂 And I wouldn't count yourself out yet with the BFN at CD30 - if your cycles have been about 32 days it could still be too early to show up on a test yet. Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🏻 🍀 🤞🏻 🍀

Carley321 · 03/07/2019 11:04

I think I have a sick sense an hour later and here AF is 🙄. Oh well another few days of misery then back to optimism 😡. I’m sure that taking a test brings it on!

BambiOnIce80 · 03/07/2019 11:25

Argh bugger, sorry @Carley321 💐 I've had exactly the same happen a couple of times - very much so a cycle of optimism and misery 😏 On the brightside, that's a very flipping normal 30 day cycle you've got yourself there my lovely!x

OP posts:
Carley321 · 03/07/2019 12:02

@BambiOnIce80 Yes that’s what I told myself lol 🙄. Doesn’t stop me guessing at these bloody diagnosis's been thrown around though.
Sorry for the negative attitude all. I’m royally fed up these last few months.

79andnotout · 05/07/2019 15:45

Well, that was an anti climax. I've been prescribed thyroxine for my thyroid and told when that's under control in a few months to come back to the clinic. I'm entitled to one round over the age of 40. So, I might be joining you @BambiOnIce80. Hopefully the meds work, I'm miles off normal levels at the mo. Bloody auto immune disorders!

wannabemum38 · 05/07/2019 17:57

Bit of break through bleeding today all I need in this heat 🤦 hopefully means I get my first proper period soon oh joy. My house mates are being really crappy towards me at moment complaining to landlord about my DP staying too long this week. The fact is he can't do anything for himself with his wrist in a cast so was helping him shower etc now getting moaned at by landlord all I need. I mean me and DP are moving in together soon but that's not the point 😭

BambiOnIce80 · 06/07/2019 10:19

Sorry to hear the appointment was a bit of an anti-climax @79andnotout, but I guess this means they've acknowledged somethings going on with your thyroid? I obviously wouldn't want to see your IVF delayed, but is it OK to be a little bit excited that you might be my IVF buddy?!😬x

Sounds like you've got a lot going on at your end @wannabemum38 💐 Hope everything gets sorted out soon 🍀

OP posts:
PixieN · 06/07/2019 16:20

Lol @BambiOnIce80 I was hoping @79andnotout would be my IVF buddy! It’s weird to think that a few of us will be going through it this year - feels like we’ve been on this thread for ages and things are finally starting to happen 🤞 Hope you get your thyroid sorted out @79andnotout.

I’ve got a scan and blood test soon. Feel slightly nervous. DH is definitely staying on the Wellman vits for now - feel like i’ve forked out loads for ttc already and not sure how much difference they’ll make in the space of a month or two 🤔 Feeling a bit nervous about what they’ll tell me about my egg quality. I had a 3 day period this month (when usually it lasts 4) and I’m not as regular as I used to be.

Sorry to hear about AF @Carley32 and sorry to hear about your unsympathetic housemates and landlord @wannabemum38

79andnotout · 06/07/2019 21:48

Ha sorry @PixieN - thought I'd be joining you too! Hope the scan and blood tests go okay. There's no5hing they can tell about egg quality until it comes to fertilisation in the Petri dish though - until then it's a mystery! If it makes you feel any better, my periods only last two days, are light, and my scans have all consistently showed good lining.

@BambiOnIce80 what high jinks has your kitten been up to? Do we get another pic?

I'm feeling much further away from having a kid than a few weeks ago. I've been mulling it over. As well as thyroid problems, a thombophilia disorder runs in mums family (my sister has just tested positive for it in her fertility investigations), and I've been referred to the genetic counsellor for that, as that's another miscarriage risk. I think given I'll be into my 40s by the time the ivf comes round, with two disorders known to greatly increase miscarriage and congenital problems, everything is looking pretty risky. It might be incredibly selfish to even try. I'm going to do my research before my next appointment and mull it out with my consultant. She was very good and I think she'd be straight up about these things when we have the results of the genetic testing. I don't want a child at any cost. My sister was saying it's funny how you can think you're perfectly healthy and then in TTC you unearth some deep seated problems that have been waiting to pounce. The human body is a complex beast.

Sorry for AF @Carley321 but yeah as @BambiOnIce80 great to have a normal cycle!

Hope things settle down with your cycles @wannabemum38 and the household drama calms down. It's a long time since I was in a shared household. Don't think I could cope with it anymore! I find it hard enough living with DP (who is away this weekend and it's bliss, I've cleaned the bathroom, made a nice dinner, and am watching the Glastonbury coverage with the dog and a glass of wine).

79andnotout · 06/07/2019 21:50

@QuantumGirl thinking of you and hoping you are okay.

wannabemum38 · 06/07/2019 22:01

Thanks ladies @BambiOnIce80 @PixieN @79andnotout im settling down with some haagen dazz and Tom Cruise.

BambiOnIce80 · 07/07/2019 10:39

Like @79andnotout says @PixieN, until it's in the petri dish all bets are off! 🥚 The blood tests and scans will give them information about how 'well' we'll respond to the fertility drugs, but after that I think it's a bit of a lottery 🤞🏻 We could get 14 eggs and they're total crap or get 2 which are excellent 🤷‍♀️ It does feel a bit crazy how everything seems to be getting going for us after a loooonnnng time on this thread, but I think it's also quite exciting! 🤩 Please keep us posted on how the bloods/scans go.x

As always @79andnotout, that's a very thoughtful and measured approach to how best to proceed ❤️ I remember you said about your family having a prothrombotic tendency (was it antithrombin deficiency?). If it's any help, someone I used to know had protein S deficiency which was lurking in the background, giving her no problems whatsoever until she started TTC. Once the docs started supporting her pregnancies with low molecular weight heparin she didn't have anymore problems with clots and she's got a few healthy DC now. If I was in that position and had a BFP, I'd be straight down the docs and insisting on prophylactic LMWH. I guess what I'm saying is, the clotting thing doesn't have to be a 'game over' situation if managed correctly.x

Glad haagen daz and Tom Cruise has helped with de-stressing @wannabemum38. My evening was similar - Ben and Jerry's and the new series of Stranger Things 😉

The kit is literally into everything, but the cuddles when he crashes are pretty lovely 😻 He's quite naturally taken to playing fetch too, which has been both surprising and great fun! 😄

Ladies, last day of holiday here and decided to take a FRER as we needed to let the clinic know about my days of AF so we can start preps for donor egg! Today is cd31 (not sure when AF after MMC) and BFP! I'm absolutely pooping myself here! As only in May I had a missed miscarriage and it was horrendous after d&c. I'm trying to stay calm! And maybe all the changes in diet and supplements we made after seeing a fertility coach, did the trick!? I just don't know. But today I'm pregnant! And breathe....

Awesome news @Russkispy -keeping everything crossed for you xxx

wannabemum38 · 08/07/2019 22:50

Congratulations @Russkispy keeping fingers crossed.
Feeling really down in dumps today and now think I've got a UTI keep needing to pee and nothing really coming out got a bit of bleeding very pink when I wipe sorry if TMI. Had a fuzzy head all day too and despite reaching out to house mates to try and be nice being ignored by all but one of them Confused

BambiOnIce80 · 09/07/2019 07:42

That's fantastic news @Russkispy! 😍 Keeping everything crossed for a sticky bean 🤞🏻 🍀 🤞🏻 🍀

I think I'd be getting myself down to the docs for them to dipstick my wee and feed me some antibiotics if I were you @wannabemum38 💐 How long is it until you and DP move in together? Your house share doesn't sound like a very pleasant place to be at the moment 😔
