Home insemination

Hi everyone,

We are looking to start a family and unfortunately we are unable to conceive the traditional way. Hence, we are looking into home insemination kit.

It's an exciting time for both me & my husband. Though I'm a little nervous of how to start? I've seen a number of insemination kits online and OPK kits. I'm seeking for advice from someone who has done / is doing home insemination for some encouragement.

The information is vast out there and I'm a little confused as to what / which kits I really need.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Many thanks

Aww congratulations that's great news! x

Fuji1234 · 15/03/2019 18:03

@juneybean thanks! I just noticed you said you mixed preseed with the sperm, I never did this (just coated the syringe with the preseed). We also used to let the sperm rest for 15 mins before sucking into the syringe as I had read that helps. We always tucked the pot under our arm to keep it warm for the 15 mins.

@Bigbear123 I also struggled to orgasm when the syringe was still in for the 30 mins with legs in the air. What we did the 2 months we were successful was to orgasm before inserting the syringe-not sure if that is what did the trick as we didn't do that the first 2 months.

@Fuji1234 your story inspired me - thank you for sharing. Many congratulations on the arrival of your baby! I tried the 1ml syringe too. Now looking forward to the next cycle.

@juneybean Sorry for my late reply- yes I take my temp around the same time every day. I'm now also observing my cervical fluid too for better signs of fertile days.

OP posts:
juneybean · 16/03/2019 11:52

@Bigbear123 I only ask about the temps as you have open circles which indicates there's a difference greater than 30 minutes between your usual temp taking time and that can skew the results.

How have your temps been since you last posted? Do you think you definitely ovulated? x

Bigbear123 · 16/03/2019 14:02

@juneybean yes I think I have definitely ovulated 2 weeks ago when my cervical fluid was very 'egg white'. I'm now a few days away from my next period and I can feel it. It has been a good first month for me to learn more about my body and tried out different things. Thanks x

Ahh that's great, sorry to hear you think AF is on her way, but yes every month adds more knowledge about your body and the best way to inseminate. I'm sadly only 2 days past ovulation so have a long wait ahead!

I struggle with vaginismus too, refreshing to have other people to talk with about it. We conceived via what u could call insemination but actually it was more ejaculating at the entrance of the vagina (no penetration) and then inserting a finger straight after. I could only tolerate a finger, not syringes so way to go for being able to use a syringe ladies with vaginismus. We now have a beautiful 10mth old! We actually had a miscarriage before this pregnancy but both times conceived first month of trying with this method. I was super worried about the birth but had an amazing consultant & team at my hospital and a really strong birth plan in place. Epidural from the start without delay & I was able to deliver vaginally. Please feel free to ask if u have an questions as I wish I had a thread like this when we were trying & I also can't believe I didn't know about this method many years before ( saw a specialist consultant who told me about this)

Bigbear123 · 18/03/2019 07:08

@RBowmama oh wow thank you for sharing! And yes this thread has been a life saver for me too - so many of you have shared your experiences and stories which have really inspired me. That's great to know about the method you used.

Thank you all!

Apologies I haven't been on here for a while. We did our first home insemination in April. It was a test run. No pregnancy. Then waited for my ovulation but missed it and today I ovulated again. We tried home insemination with some preseed. I lied for 30mins but as soon as I stepped off the bed - some came out of my vagina (looks like cum & preseed).

Has anyone experience this before?

Thanks xx

I think it's very common for some of the semen & lubricant to come back out of you again, I wouldn't worry about it, it only takes 1 sperm to get pregnant after all :)

I know some people insert a diaphragm or menstrual cup to keep everything up there but that may not be an option for you with vaginismus. I have issues with vaginismus too & I struggled to use a mooncup.

Good luck, I hope this month is the one! I also just started TTC with home insemination (I'm using a sperm donor), did my first insemination last week & impatient to find out if it worked...

Bigbear123 · 15/07/2019 21:24

@goodnightsugarpop thanks for your message. I keep my fingers (and toes) crossed for you :-) xx

Hi , can I join ? I’m in my 3rd month of home insemination and last month I got a chemical. I am now in the 2ww keeping everything crossed ! This time we managed 2 attempts the 2 days before ovulation , then the day of and the day after !! Xx

Bigbear123 · 16/07/2019 22:07

@FayeMillie welcome! All the members on here has been super supportive and it's been a life saver for me. I feel this journey is so emotional and lonely at times. Having a network like this and be able to talk has been wonderful x

Hey Bigbear, thanks for that it’s wonderful to have that support as so many people don’t understand the emotional side. Glad I spoke up now!! Wishing you guys all the best with his journey - guess we just have to take it one day at a time and keep going 💪 xx

Bigbear123 · 29/07/2019 19:27

Hi everyone,

Our third cycle failed and I'm deeply disappointed. For some reasons I had so much hope this cycle just gone. I had symptoms that could be mistaken for being pregnant but turned out it's PMS. I thought at one point I could be pregnant but no my period came this morning and that was it. I've been feeling sad and frustrated!

We are now looking into next steps - both of us going to see our GPs and see what else we can do.

I'd love to hear how long did you try until you got pregnant?

Thanks xx

Hi Bigbear,

My 3rd try has just failed also but I’m just going to keep on going for a few more months , it’s such an awful feeling and I was the same I genuinely felt different this month and thought it was going to be successful grrrrrr!! Xx

Bigbear123 · 30/07/2019 13:56

@Faye32 Thank you for sharing. I love your positivity and that really helps.

How do you do it? I know it maybe TMI but the way I do it is husband does his business in a cup, we use 1ml syringe to insert inside me. Then I lied there for 30mins. We always do it only when we get OPK test positive.

Any other ideas welcome if anyone else thinks we should do it differently?

Thanks xx

CleverQuacks · 30/07/2019 14:14

I conceived two of my children using a syringe and a cup. I didn’t track ovulation. We just did it regularly through out the month. I conceived both really quickly. Try to do it when you go to bed and then lie down all night. Also try to have an orgasm once his sperm is inside you.

PotteringAlong · 30/07/2019 14:45

Also, remember that 12 months to conceive is considered normal. 3 months is nothing.

Whatnext11 · 30/07/2019 19:23

I am so glad to read this thread - it's not just me! @Bigbear123 which KIT did you get off amazon? A bit nervous to trust amazon with my health!!
@sal1987 thank you so much for sharing.
I can;t tell you how good it is to hear similar stories

Bigbear123 · 30/07/2019 22:27

@Whatnext11
Hi there, I used the Super Deluxe Fertility Kit £19.99 on Amazon. Though their syringe is too big so I buy infant syringe which is 1ml. Good luck on your journey!

I'm sorry to hear it hasn't happened for you yet @Bigbear123, just keep your spirits up but try not to put too much pressure on yourself (although easier said than done I know!!) I am currently 28 weeks pregnant after 3 goes of home insemination and a previous 15 months of general trying!! To all you lovely ladies, don't give up hope, if it happened to me I'm sure it will happen to all of you at some point 😘😘

Faye32 · 20/08/2019 14:37

Bigbear- I’m using donor sperm so I do tje same as you really , syringe and then use a soft cup have an orgasm and I lie there for 30-60 mins depending on what time of day it is etc xx

Bigbear123 · 20/08/2019 19:20

@Faye32 hi there, I've been seeing the doctor and she said try insem within the fertile window frame to increase our chances. So this month we are going to try every other day for 10 days or so. Husband also saw a male doctor and he said try 3 times week all month round! It'll be fun x
