Meeeeee 🙋🏼‍♀️👋🏼

MrsAW2018 · 14/11/2018 13:22

@sophhhxo how are you getting on? How many cycles have you been trying? Do you ovulate regularly?

Sorry for all the questions! I just need people to talk to who can resonate with me!

sophhhxo · 14/11/2018 13:46

I don't be sorry! I'm in the process of doctors finding out if I ovulate every month as I have been ttc for 3 years in January!

Was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago!

Just waiting for a letter for an appointment at the hospital for an updated scan 🤞🏼

Willowjasmine · 14/11/2018 18:31

Me!!! I'm 30 and diagnosed about 6 years ago. Been TTC for 8 cycles now, saw GP after 4 because my Opks were showing no ovulation. Cycles are 33-37 days usually. They've done bloods which confirmed that I wasn't ovulating. They also checked DHs specimen which was fine. Got a hosp appt In December but really hoping it turns out I'm pregnant before I make it there! Sorry for my life story!!! 😂

MrsAW2018 · 15/11/2018 11:25

@sophhhxo I hope you get some answers from the doctors and the scan. I'm only on cycle 5 (soon to be 6). I hope you don't mind me asking but do you get periods and are they somewhat regular? Apologies for the personal question.. I'm just trying to work out how difficult it's going to be for me to conceive.

@willowjasmine Thanks for sharing your story! I've had some positive OPKs which I'm hoping is a positive sign although I read somewhere that positive OPKs doesn't always equal ovulation. I'm just a couple of cycles behind you. I hope you get your BFP before your hospital appointment and I'm glad they're willing to help you!

I hope we can keep in touch with each other's progress on this thread and support each other because this condition is a b*tch and I don't have anyone to talk to IRL about it other than my husband. But there's only so much fertility and period talk he can take LOL. x

sophhhxo · 15/11/2018 11:36

Nothing's too personal on here haha!
90% of my periods are regular (never used to be, but being on the pill helped!)
But every so often I'll have one that doesn't show up, or will be very late! Just to get my hopes up 🙄

I hope we can all keep in touch and update each other too☺️🤞🏼 xx

Willowjasmine · 15/11/2018 12:59

Positive opks are a good start though! I have had the occasional one but a very stressful few months so docs thing my body has deciding ovulation isn't a necessary function right now 🙄

I agree, I hope we can all keep in touch! I haven't told anyone I'm ttc so I agree it's really hard, even more so with pcos. Realising after So much DTD that there's not even a bloody egg there for the sperm to get to!😂

Found out the other day one of my co-worker is pregnant, been with her bf for 6 months and it was an accident. Do you guys ever feel like a failure because people are getting pregnant by accident yet I can't even Do it when I'm trying my best?

RosieStarr · 15/11/2018 17:56

Me too! Was diagnosed almost two years ago, but have been TTC for only a couple of months. Been put on metformin for about six months before TTC as apparently it can help with symptoms and fertility.

Have been very clear that I want to keep this to myself because of the potential complications with PCOS but husband and his family are very close and like to share everything - has been extra stressful trying to navigate all that!

MrsAW2018 · 16/11/2018 12:42

@sophhhxo It's so frustrating when they come late or don't come at all!! I'm currently on CD35 and my apps have said that my period should come today but no sign of AF at all when the last two cycles have been 31 days (couldn't believe my luck!!). This year my longest cycle has been 55 days!

@willowjasmine sorry to hear you've had a stressful few months. Stress is a horrid thing, especially when it is affecting your ovulation patterns. I haven't told anyone I'm TTC either (it just seems so private and not the "done thing"). Sorry to hear about your co-worker. It's sooo difficult to see other people pregnant/with babies; especially when it's an accident and unplanned. I definitely feel like a failure as really trying hard to get pregnant and then people get pregnant by mistake all. the. time. It's heartbreaking

@MrsAW2018 I think it’s helped a bit with non-fertility related issues, but it’s difficult to say if it’s helping when TTC. I was on the contraceptive implant for years so had no periods at all, but before that I was regular and there were no issues. I only realised when a friend was diagnosed and thought, oh, that sounds like me!

Metformin takes a long time to take effect, so they recommended I started before TTC. It’s actually a diabetes drug but can be used off licence for PCOS. There’s no way to know if it’ll help until you try, but several people who I know have tried it have said it’s helped them.

My husband hasn’t yet mentioned anything but I’m trying to put him off saying anything... had a long chat to him and explained it’s a private thing, but he said his parents (particularly his dad) will be worried we haven’t thought it through if we don’t give them prior warning. Quite frankly I don’t care - we shouldn’t have to get their ok before we do this, and we are 31.. even if we hadn’t thought it through (which we have) we are grown ups with jobs and we are entitled to do what we want! I’m hoping I can just put him off talking to them long enough to get pregnant and then it won’t matter!

Willowjasmine · 16/11/2018 17:28

@MrsAW2018 have you confirmed ovulation this month? Is there a chance you're late because you're pregnant? I really hope so for you! If so, how long are you going to wait before you test? It makes me feel a bit more normal knowing other people feel how I do and like we're letting our other halves down (even though we definitely aren't!)

@RosieStarr that sounds so frustrating! I kind of get how you feel in that my in laws can sometimes treat us like kids even though we are 30 and when they were out age they had 2 kids already! Ttc is such a private thing and the last thing you want is your FIL knowing you're getting down to business 😂 hopefully you'll get your bfp before your husband gets the opportunity to tell them you're trying!

gwen7896 · 16/11/2018 18:16

And me!! I've got an appointment at the fertility clinic in January...

Wineandsleepplease · 16/11/2018 21:54

I found out i had PCOS when i was 19, the doctor said it would be unlikely for me to conceive so i started trying and found out i was pregnant 5 months later. With my 2nd baby it took 4 months and im now currently thinking im pregnant with my 3rd!!😂

gwen7896 · 19/11/2018 09:49

It’s really nice to be able to talk to other people who are in a similar situation Smile.

RosieStarr · 19/11/2018 11:02

@Willowjasmine Oh god I know, it’s so frustrating! My husband is pretty slow at getting anything done so I’m hoping I’ll have plenty of time 😂 I maybe wouldn’t mind compromising and saying if he wants to tell his parents he can, but I know they’ll tell other relatives out of excitement... and if my SIL finds out I might as well have a press conference, lol

@gwen7896 Good luck! Hope it all goes well for you!

@wineandsleepplease Oh that’s great - it’s so nice to hear some success stories despite PCOS ☺️

Ididnothearthat · 19/11/2018 11:07

Hi all hope it's okay for me to join! Recently diagnosed with pcos and been ttc for 11 months. Just started on metformin so hoping this helps! Will be good to have online support!

Great to hear success stories to keep up going! @Rosie we tried to keep quiet but eventually it's all come out with family that we are struggling but agree it's personal! Mind you some family have been great support!

Fatgirlforlife · 19/11/2018 11:18

I've been diagnosed for 8 years with pcos and ttc for 2 years! First year I didn't ovulate at all but I've been ovulating every month for 14months now with no luck at all so know how you feel.

workinprogressmum · 19/11/2018 14:05

It took us 16 months to concieve our son and I have PCOS. Husband's sperm fine. Didn't have periods for 5 of the months. Had testing and wasn't ovulating. Fell pregnant over Christmas after we stopped checking ovulation etc etc. Hoping to try for no2 next year. If it takes as long DS will be 7!

Dinosauraddict · 19/11/2018 15:58

Can I join you all? I have PCOS and TTC #1. 21 day bloods keep showing no ovulation at all. So frustrating!!!

RosieStarr · 19/11/2018 17:10

Do you mind if I ask those of you who have gone in for further tests how long you tried before seeking further help? My husband and I have only been trying for a few months, but we were told to go back ‘if we had trouble’ because of my PCOS, but time frames seem to vary.

Has anyone considered using the private healthcare companies who do provide testing? (Perhaps before GP will consider additional testing)

gwen7896 · 19/11/2018 17:40

@RosieStarr The GP that sent me for blood tests said she might refer me to the fertility clinic depending on my results but that we would need to TTC for a year whereas the GP that I last saw decided to refer me after 6 months...

Willowjasmine · 19/11/2018 18:13

@RosieStarr we've been trying for 8 months but went to the GP after 4 because I wasn't getting any positive opks... And the instructions said to see the GP if that's the case. Plus I have a strong family history of pcos and others in my family have had to have IVF so tbh I really pushed it.

Regarding private healthcare - I've looked into that as DH works for one of the companies. They advised to do everything available on nhs first as once you go private, you aren't entitled to anything on the nhs for fertility anymore. So it closes the door to free IVF etc. But that's just what I was told. And also if cost isn't an issue then that may not be relevant to you. Don't know if anyone else has had a different experience.

RosieStarr · 19/11/2018 19:29

That’s good to know, thank you. Guess I will have to see what the GP says here!

@willowjaasmine I’m not really concerned as I wouldn’t want to pursue IVF anyway (husband and I decided we would rather adopt if it came to it), but it’s good to know that pursuing private healthcare might impact what I can access on the NHS.

MrsAW2018 · 21/11/2018 10:49

@RosieStarr I might ask my GP about metformin. I know a friend of mine was taking it to TTC - not sure how successful that's been, but it's worth a try. I'll see what she says when I see her next week!

Hopefully your husband will understand that you want to keep it private and you definitely don't need their permission to start trying!!

@Willowjasmine AF arrived on Monday so all those BFNs were correct. Was gutted but just want to move on to the next cycle and start tracking ovulation (couldn't do it last month because of honeymoon!)

@gwen7896 hope all goes well at the fertility clinic for you. How long have you been TTC for?

@Wineandsleepplease that gives us all hope!

@Ididnothearthat thanks for joining in! Online support is definitely good!

@Fatgirlforlife hopefully you'll get your BFP soon!

@workinprogressmum did you find that by not tracking ovulation, you were less stressed out? And that helped you conceive?

@Dinosauraddict hi there! How long did you have to wait until the doctors sent you for day 21 bloods?

Hope you all had a great weekend and are doing well. I'm onto cycle #6 and hope that next month we have a special little Christmas present!! Where are you all up to in your cycles etc?

OP posts:
workinprogressmum · 21/11/2018 13:02

I think so. My husband and I had 2 weeks off together, we could relax and it just happened :) the ovulation sticks and remembering to do them just stressed me out!
