Anyone else got PCOS and trying to conceive their first baby?

I had 21 day bloods month 4 (and 5), but I went on metformin on month 3. At month 6 I’ve been referred for specialist (expecting them to prescribe clomid) and my husband has SA booked. But my timeframes are quicker than usual as I was diagnosed with PCOS back when I was a teenager, and am not ovulating at all. Cycles are also all over the place length wise. Other month I bled for 16 days for example. Nightmare.

gwen7896 · 21/11/2018 19:54

@MrsAW2018 Thank you :) It's really nice to have somebody to talk to! Since the beginning of the year. My cycles have been better with metformin but not that great...

Willowjasmine · 24/11/2018 12:47

@workinprogressmum I agree about the ovulation sticks! This month I've decided to sack them off because it was too stressful and disheartening. Hopefully it works!

@MrsAW2018 sorry to hear that ☹ I'm currently on CD21 which is apparently my most likely day to ovulate looking at trends. Who knows if it's occurring this month.

@RosieStarr ahh fair enough! Are you considering going private for tests? It's tempting just for speed as I do feel like this is taking forever through my GP!

workinprogressmum · 24/11/2018 12:52

Good luck @Willowjasmine :)

Just found out I have a complex ovarian cyst which needs removing. Having it reduces our chances of conceiving #2 by 50%. So we'll see!

Willowjasmine · 24/11/2018 12:55

@workinprogressmum oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that ☹ that really sucks ☹ is it being removed soon?

workinprogressmum · 24/11/2018 13:02

@Willowjasmine I've been referred to a gynaecologist but have to wait and see how long they think. It'll be a camera, cyst removal and potentially removal of endometriosis stuff. It's all fun and games being a girl hey!

Willowjasmine · 24/11/2018 17:25

@workinprogressmum oh gosh. It's so unfair being a girl. Feel for you Flowers

Ididnothearthat · 25/11/2018 08:24

@workinprpgrrss hope you get seen quickly so you can recover!

MrsAW2018 · 01/12/2018 15:22

Hey everybody, how are you all getting on? Xxx

Just found out the hospital cancelled my appointment :( The next appointment available isn't until March now...

Willowjasmine · 03/12/2018 15:33

@MrsAW2018 hi! I'm due AF on Saturday so just waiting. Currently have a migraine which is a sure fire sign for me that AF is coming. So pretty much out. Where are you up to? And how are you feeling?

@gwen7896 how frustrating!!! Have they given any reason why? That extra 2 months can feel like so much longer when you're trying, I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll get your bfp before then fx

Louise071 · 03/12/2018 17:44

Can I join in? 🙂 I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and we are TTC#1, we are on our third cycle of trying and I have been taking myo-inositol for a couple of months and starting to see an improvement in my cycles so feeling positive!

gwen7896 · 03/12/2018 20:57

@Willowjasmine Thank you.. It's very frustrating indeed! Hope you're ok x
@Louise071 Welcome :)

MrsAW2018 · 06/12/2018 09:48

@Willowjasmine I got a positive OPK on Monday so think I ovulated on Tuesday. We are following the SMEP this month so hopefully we're covered!! I should be able to test week beginning the 17th but my LP seems to be about 12 days so might come on Sunday 16th if we've not managed it this month. Trying to remain positive although I'm currently suffering with depression so it's not easy☹️. I'm sorry you think you're out. How long are your cycles?

@Louise071 hi there! Were you getting regular periods before starting TTc? and I've never heard of that drug before but I'm glad it's making your cycles improve!!

I was diagnosed with PCOS due to abnormal hormone levels and irregular periods as opposed to actual cysts in my ovaries.
It was heartbreaking to have lengthy cycles and be convinced I was pregnant before I was diagnosed.
I was recommended to take inofolic by a friend, after TTC for 4.5 years I was pregnant within 2 months. Sounds like a sales post not sure if im allowed to post the name of it, but I 100% attribute my pregnancy and my beautiful baby boy to that. If you can afford it I would highly recommend looking at their website to see how it works and whether it might benefit you.
My boy is 1 years old now and just started taking the supplement again ready to TTC #2.

Willowjasmine · 07/12/2018 07:07

@MrsAW2018 I've heard good things about SMEP. Also good that you got a positive opk! Everything crossed for you . So sorry to hear about your depression, ttc is so draining on your mental health I really feel like it exacerbates any conditions you have, unfortunately speaking from experience as an anxiety sufferer. Hope your tww goes quickly!

My cycles are averaging about 35 days but can be longer depending on stress etc. What's funny is they never used to be irregular, used to be about 32 days every month, until we started trying. Funny how your body just messes you up. Currently on cd34 and want AF to come and get it over and done with. Gonna wait til Monday and take a test, mainly to not get my hopes up and usually whenever I take a test AF arrives within a few hours lol

@MrsAW2018 hey, just thought I'd send some baby dust to you & tell you about my experience with PCOS, i told when I was 14 (yes 14) I had pcos and would struggle to conceive (only went to docs/hospital, through pain, not ready to have a baby then!) they were adamant I would struggle really bad to conceive, when I turned 18 I was with my partner a while, I was 100% sure I couldn't/wouldn't get pregnant as I hadn't before, so we didn't use protection (look back now and think it was silly as there's always a chance, don't regret it for a min though) as now I have a beautiful 7year old boy!! I didn't get pregnant after having him, in my head due to my PCOS, but got diognosed with blocked Fallopian tubes and pcos (which I knew about) I was devastated, I didn't want treatment as there was a high chance of an ectopic pregnancy even if i could conceive which I didn't, untill 8weeks ago, I found out I was pregnant with no treatment, ( I have had a miscarriage unfortunately but it can happen to anyone) but the way I look at this is please don't 'try' to have a baby I found not even thinking about it as hard as it is I completely understand trust me! I gave up and thought, I'm done.. no more children for me and I got pregnant! Despite losing the baby I still conceived myself! So my advice to everyone/anyone is, don't think about it so much, your body's are wonderful things, and when it is the right time it will happen! Good luck xxxx

A few other things to note about PCOS:
If taking metformin, you may want to discuss/check your B12 levels with your doctor as metformin may lower your B12.
In addition, do you know about CoQ10 and PCOS and fertility? Here is a research article on CoQ10 and PCOS: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/cen.13288/full
Good luck!!
