Hi everyone, so me (24) and my other half (29) are going to start trying for a baby in January as we have a couple of things we would like to do first but I was wondering if any of you ladies have any advice on falling pregnant quickly please. I'm going to book a pre conception appointment with my gp and thinking of using the conceive plus lubricant from the start. How long did it take you to fall pregnant?

Quite hard to answer as everyone is different and these things vary from person to person.

I got pregnant 3rd cycle with my first child and that was the first month I'd used ovulation kits.

This pregnancy I used OPK'S again (I used the clear blue one) and preseed which I thought was really good. I got pregnant second cycle (was my first using preseed - could of course be coincidence).

I'm not sure what the 'norm' is re how long it takes but I'm sure they say it can take anything to a year. I was extremely lucky with both of my pregnancies (only 18 weeks into this one).

Good luck xxx

Hello, I'm 35 and conceived first try, I'm 8+1 now.

I tracked my cycles with the kindara app and basically just went for it around the time I was meant to fertile both before and after the window as I have varying cycles between 31-34 days (I also got used to my fertile like fluid so we kept going as I had signs and that's when it happened as I ovulated late on 36 days) .

I've a friend who got pregnant first go by knowing her fluid signs and one who used fertility sticks and got pregnant first attempt too. I found them difficult to read and stressed me personally but would use if struggling and they have worked for a few people I know.

Good luck Smile

I personally wouldn’t bother with a pre-conception doctors appointment - there’s nothing they will be able to tell you that you can’t find out for yourself (take folic acid, cut down caffeine, quit smoking, etc)

I would second the advice above to track your cycle and try to pinpoint ovulation so you know when to get busy!
I used OPKs and got pregnant 2nd cycle.

Good luck!

LittleDoveMum · 04/09/2018 16:53

I also took the pregnacare preconception tablets and I'm taking the pregnancy ones now to make sure I got and now get all the right vitamins. :)

Thanks for your replies! I track my ovulation already as I just like to know what my body is doing. I ovulate at the same time every month and get my period at the same time (give or take a couple of days) the only thing is I get really heavy periods so I thought it would be worth going to a preconception appointment and asking advice on this and finding out if it is a problem. I'm so excited about having a baby but I'm scared it's gonna take a long time as I've never really been very good at taking contraception and missed a pills here and there and was also using the pull out method for a good 7 months and not fallen pregnant before. Am I just being paranoid? It just seems that most people I know have fallen pregnant even when they are very careful. I'm using the diaphragm at the moment so I don't need to wait for any hormones to sort themselves out before trying. Sorry for the long message!

When should I start taking pre vitamins is it to early to start now?

OP posts:
Mrstobe90 · 04/09/2018 23:50

Hi!

I was convinced that I couldn't conceive as my ex and I weren't very careful and used the pull out method for two years without a hint of a pregnancy.

My husband and I got pregnant on our first try.

Start taking pre-pregnancy vitamins around 3 months before ttc so that the folic acid levels build up in your system. I used pregnacare. (They tend to turn your pee bright yellow)

Stop (or cut down) smoking and drinking and just try to relax. The more stressed you are about it, the longer it seems to take!
It's very common that the month people stop obsessing is the month that they get pregnant. Might just be a coincidence but who knows.

Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly. X

mkrsit · 06/09/2018 08:02

Thank you for your reply that's put my mind at ease a little. If it was compeltly my choice I would start trying now. We only agreed on the January date less than a week ago and I feel like I'm counting down! Wish January would hurry up already I feel like I'm obsessing over every little detail that may go wrong when trying x

I feel just relax and enjoy your time together OP. We went in with the mindset it could take a while (I'm 35). I have had a lot of other stresses as well with loss of my wonderful mum very suddenly and unexpectedly only a few months ago as well as other things. Trying to conceive wasn't one as I expected it to take time but it goes to show you don't need to over think it for it to happen. You'll stress yourself out which isn't nice for you 😊. I would say take your pre preg vitamins, you and your partner live healthily and enjoy the next few months that's the best you can do for yourself and your body in preparation for conceiving in my humble opinion. Smile

Hi, Another vote for pressed lubricant! We were trying for 4 months.

Month 1, just went with the flow.
Month 2, used clearblue ovulation tests
Month 3, just went with the flow again
Month 4, used amazon cheapy ovulation strips and preseed. And bingo! I'm now 6 weeks pregnant

mkrsit · 08/09/2018 17:08

Thank you for sharing that's made me feel a bit better about it. I guess it will just happen when it's supposed to anyway x

I am in the same boat as you and will hopefully start trying in Jan Smile I have a couple of pills left to take this month that I'm coming off it for the first time in 15 years or so! Scary stuff. Hopefully my periods will regulate by Jan. I have absolutely no idea about ovulation and I have bought some OPKs but no idea how to use them yet!

Sparkles1992 · 08/09/2018 23:42

We started TTC last month and got my BFP 11 DPO! I'm still in shock it was so quick. I used the ovulation sticks for about a week during my fertile window.. predicted by the FLO app. If you don't already input your periods into an app I would start doing that, as it gives you an idea of when you will ovulate, you can start testing that week so you know when to DTD.

Good luck!!

mkrsit · 09/09/2018 11:20

Pastaallday- eeek exciting stuff are you trying for your first as well? I always get ovulation signs so I start testing around then my boobs get big blue veins through them and discharge gets watery sorry for tmi. If you download the flo app and start recording your periods then it will prodict when your ovulating and you can test around then and put it into the app to get an idea if you ovulate at the same time every month ect. Stay in touch if you like seen as we are trying at the same time :) xx

mkrsit · 09/09/2018 11:22

Congratulations sparkles!! Aww I bet your so pleased. I track everything already on the flo app I seem to ovulate at the same time every month so I'm hoping I get a bfp straight away to x

Thanks @mkrsit ! I'm over the moon, still can't believe it! Good luck I hope you're as quick! Smile

FridaySaturdaySunday · 09/09/2018 20:03

Congratulations Sparkles! Yes @mkrsit let's keep in touch sounds like we have a similar plan! Yes it is my first too, so pretty clueless and I am a bit older than you but hopefully that won't hinder me too much Confused that's good advice re: ovulation. I stop the pill in a few days so I'll get my usual pill few week period and then guessing as I won't start taking them again, will have a real period a few days/week after maybe? And then I can start tracking from there? I've downloaded the flo app in preparation! I've heard though that the apps are general in ovulation dates and you could ovulate a lot earlier than they reckon so hoping to not miss it. But it's all new to me!
Did you come off the pill? Also worried It'll take a while for my periods to settle down. Was going to stop in Jan and try straight away but think it's best to give my periods a few months to settle before.

Pastaallday · 09/09/2018 20:05

Oops sorry @mkrsit back to my original username!

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 20:31

As much as people say the pull out method doesn't work, & of course it has failed in some cases it will still dramatically reduce your chances of concieving. Me & my DP used the pull out method successfully for 3 years & got pregnant a few months into 'trying' we used concieve plus lubricant & I put my legs in the air after we DTD Grin I didn't take any vitamins etc... but as above poster said 'normal' can vary so so much. Anything up to a year is perfectly normal so don't panic. Just have sex around O date & im sure you'll be just fine!

Sparkles1992 · 10/09/2018 00:37

Thanks @FridaySaturdaySunday !! Smile good luck to you too! I started OPK testing around 2 days before predicted ovulation date, and got a positive 2 days after app prediction x

Pastaallday · 10/09/2018 19:34

Ah ok so when I finish the pack, I will bet my usual withdrawal bleed and then I'm assuming I'll get a proper bleedafter that as I won't restart the pill. Which one do I count as CD1 - the first day or withdrawal bleed or real bleed?

mkrsit · 13/09/2018 14:21

Thank you all for your replies sorry I take so long to reply been really busy with work ect! I'm so glad to hear that others have used withdrawal for long periods of time without getting pregnant and then conceived quickly i was really panicking! Pastaallday would you like to swap email addresses or something so we can contact directly? Also I think the bleed you get straight away is just your withdrawal bleed so I'd count your bleed after as a period. I feel like I'm waiting forever here aha. My OH is starting to talk about it more and get excited so I'm trying to convince him to start trying the month before as I don't ovulate till later on in January and I'm very impatient.

Pastaallday · 14/09/2018 18:23

Yea that sounds like a good idea @mkrsit. Im not very savvy with mumsnet though sorry! Well I'm off the pill now so hopefully everything will settle down in the next few months!

Glitzy07 · 14/09/2018 22:34

Hi. We tried to conceive in July and conceived 1st try. 10 weeks now :) I'm no expert but I can advise what I did whether it was luck or it worked who knows, so last September I came off the pill which I had been on for a good 10+years so come off now if you haven't already to get your body to adjust and periods come back naturally. We ideally wanted to conceive 1st time , I'm 31 partner 37 so we knew it may take longer. I took folic acid for a month or so before then prenatal vitamins after. We used conceive plus lubricant during the fertile period. Stayed calm and didn't stress about it. We had not long come back from a relaxing holiday so maybe that helped. We were in the middle of buying a house so had been pretty stressed out also living out of boxes in the meanwhile. I had also been tracking my fertile period/periods using ovia which seemed to be accurate and helped with knowing when to DTD. Oh and sorry TMI this next bit... But I read once the sperm is inside keep your legs up a bit for 15mins or so before you go the loo ,shower etc so it stays inside lol... thats about it i think :) it seemed to work and we only managed to DTD twice that week as we were quite busy and tired from work etc so are super pleased when we got a BFP in August :) good luck!! Keep us updated in the new year xxx

someonekillbabyshark · 14/09/2018 23:10

Got my implant out late November had a period in December we both used boots his & her conception support, used conceive plus as well as tracked my cycle and we got pregnant first 'try' ? Lol she's now 2 and we are trying for baby #2 in Jan, I started a Thread for January tries in the conceive topic xx I had had my implant in for 5 years and DH has been previously told a few years back his S wasn't doing to great so the vitamins helped for his part we even recommended them to a friend that had been trying and there son was born 3 months after our DD Wink
