......after dtd to remain lying down (so sperm doesn't "fall out") ......gross I know.......am wondering if it's ok or am I likely to get infection? Ok/advisable to lay like that 'til morning?

Whatever suits you.

Much as it's an old wive's tale, I tend to stay put for 10 mins but then I nip to the bathroom to clean up. I would personally find it grim to not clean up but if it doesn't bother you then it's up to you.

NymeriaStark · 18/03/2018 20:56

Is it okay to stay lying down until morning? As opposed to what? Sleeping standing up?!

You’ll be fine but I’m not sure it will make any different to whether you conceive or not.

Good luck.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 18/03/2018 20:58

No op you need to install a system that enables you to hang like a bat!!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 18/03/2018 20:58

What would you get an infection from? Your husband's semen? If that’s the case you’ll catch it anyway!

Fruitcocktail6 · 18/03/2018 20:58

I lay down for 5-10 mins then go for a pee. If I don't I get a Uti. I'm pregnant now so obviously didn't stop me.

isthistoonosy · 18/03/2018 20:59

I'm not ttc but if OH comes inside me I tend to stay laid down and go to sleep, why wouldn't you?

mammyoftwo · 18/03/2018 20:59

T

.....as opposed to standing up and wiping away mess that comes away! Blush

Am convinced this "technique" helped convince both dc 1 + 2, just wondering if it's "safe"

@mammyoftwo I put a pillow under my bum for 30 minutes afterwards then go to sleep. Been doing that for seven months and haven't had any kind of infection from it

8DaysAWeek · 18/03/2018 21:05

I have to pee pretty shortly after otherwise there's a good chance I'll get a uti. When ttc I lie there for about 15 minutes then get up to pee.

No idea if lying there helps but why not!?

Aprilmightmemynewname · 18/03/2018 21:08

I conceived ds with a doggy style quicky days after ovulation!! Blush

PineappleExpress · 18/03/2018 21:24

It's perfectly fine for most to stay lying to avoid spillage. However, the sperm will get to where they need to be within the first 5 minutes, so after a quick cuddle and a rest, get yourself cleaned up to avoid get a UTI - not from leaving the semen there, just from general rubbing and touching near the urethra that happens during sex.
Obviously, you won't always get a UTI if you don't clean up, but it definitely increases your chances if you don't have a wee and clean up after sex

luxurybiscuit · 18/03/2018 21:29

I’ve never had a wee after sex (unless I needed one) or ‘cleaned up’ after sex, if it is last thing at night I’d just roll over & go to sleep! I’ve also never ever had a UTI. Also was lucky enough to conceive very easily both times (but fairly sure that had nothing to do with it!)

mammyoftwo · 18/03/2018 21:48

Thanks ladies!......was nervous posting this as it's bordering on "sex beaker"! Blush

I’ve had three fertility doctors tell me that lying down/elevating legs and hips after sex is absolutely not advised unless there are issues with sperm. Ejaculation is designed to get sperm up to where it needs to be within seconds. There’s no need to stay still and doing so can put you at risk of a UTI which can be pretty nasty. I mean, it’s your prerogative of course but it really doesn’t help with conception (except in terms of sperm problems or if you’re using AI) so there’s no science in it but if you’re happy to take the risk of getting an infection and also don’t mind sleeping in a pool of semen then go for it lol

mammyoftwo · 18/03/2018 22:31

Thanks

Good to know @Bubblegum89 ! I personally am not fond of the whole lying down with a tissue/towel/whatever between my legs for any extended period of time. Also hate the thought of semen sheets...

Never understood how people can just roll over and go to sleep!? Wish I could!

demirose87 · 18/03/2018 23:41

I used to lie there for about 30 mins after sex, trying to keep in as much as possible, then get up to pee. Anything that comes out after that is just excess.

mammyoftwo · 18/03/2018 23:55

Towels 8days, towels! (Seperate ones for this purpose, to avoid "semen sheets"!)

OP posts:
mammyoftwo · 19/03/2018 00:04

And to avoid these towels being used for any other purpose!

Haha omg I’m so glad u have asked this I have been wondering this!! The last time we dtd I was trying to hold it all in 😂. I’m glad I don’t have to do that now haha before ttc I’d just go straight to the toilet

LolitaLempicka · 19/03/2018 03:39

Clean up after sex? What the fuck are you all into? Sex isn’t dirty.

LilacBearberry · 19/03/2018 04:01

I'm shocked you wouldn't clean up after sex. I mean, I can't stand the 'feel' of bodily fluids dripping down below BlushConfused including my own that's exiting? (I don't know how to put it)

HerSymphonyAndSong · 19/03/2018 04:12

I’m not really sure why you’re asking OP if you have conceived two children with no ill-effects!

I have to go to the loo fairly soon after sex as I am very prone to UTIs otherwise (how lucky for those who aren’t!)
