Skip a month to avoid Xmas Bday?

Hi everyone.

DH and I have been TTC since December. If we don't get a BFP this month, I am thinking about skipping March. My period is due 25th Feb which I think could mean a birthday directly around Christmas if we were lucky that month. My Mum has a birthday a couple of days before Christmas and hates it. Is it weird to skip a month for a reason like this??

I could do with losing some weight (I'm 5'3 and 11stone, although only size 10-12, not sure if that's going to cause problems with TTC?) so perhaps I could focus on that for March...

We're both 28, and as I said this is 3rd month TTC.

I wouldn't. I'm November, my DH is Xmas day, niece Boxing Day and brother 29th. Even though friends aren't always available we always make an effort as a family. As kids my brother and I would have a special event in the Summer rather than have poorly attended parties in Winter and loved that. As others have said, there is always something!

@Bubblegum89. @Owlpatrol. An anytime baby! Flowers I'm with you there x

My DD is a December baby (19th) I LOVE her birthday. It always feels wintery and magical. I always make sure I make an extra fuss as to distinguish it from Christmas celebrations.

I really wouldn’t overthink it. When we were TTC DC2 I was determined not to have a late summer or Christmas baby, we conceived first month trying and baby due mid September, I felt very smug that my plan had worked. Then we lost that baby.
After that I didn’t care, I just wanted to be pregnant, when we were able to try again I had figured out that month might result in a Dec baby, but I thought I don’t want to wait, what if I lost another, it was a silly reason.
DS2 was due early Jan, but came on Dec 29th. It’s not the best time for a birthday, but helps to fill the void between Christmas and New Year!
As a PP said it’s quiet in the hospital, it’s just a birthday.

My sisters is 23rd December and she always celebrates by going out and having a good time etc and her friends always loved it. It's the birthdays between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day that are bit crap really because Christmas Eve/day/boxing day everyone is spending with family and the week between Christmas and new year people are "coming down" from Christmas/too tired and New Year's Day most are hung over or tired.

My son is mid January and by then Christmas feels like an age ago so I would skip a month and go for January/February.

I think a December baby is magical! When I was ttc i was desperate for early in the school year. Second time round it took over a year to conceive and I was desperate for a baby with any birthday! Got one first week of jan. Its a crap birthday but she’s a great kid :)

I’m a January birthday and I actually like it. It gives me something to look forward to! My ds is August. I had 3 MMC before him , losing 5 babies. I was so thrilled to actually be having a live baby I couldn’t give a rats ass when he was born. I am now blessed with a cheeky gorgeous boy who is 5, in year 1 and flying .
I really think birthdates are irrelevant.

My birthday is early January and I quite like it (not that I’ve ever known anything different). I certainly won’t be holding off TTC next month but I Chan see why people who are incredibly fertile would.

We were planning Spring/Easter babies for all three and somehow ended up with two in the summer and one at Christmas! tbh the Christmas baby (now 16) has never suffered. All his friends are on holiday for his birthday so they can spend the day together. He used to think the lights went up for him every year when he was little Grin He'll never sit an exam on his birthday like I did for four years running....

I should clarify - he was due on Christmas day and came 2 days early....

My first born was two months early and my sisters was a month late.

You can't control it. It's really not that important. I'd just go for it.

My teenage son hates his December birthday. When having ivf for my second, I skipped out March and April to avoid December and January birth. It worked DD was born in March 😊

I am. DS is new year's Day. He's only two and it's already a bit shit. If I get pregnant this cycle it'll be a 10/12 due date so not too bad (DS was born at 37 weeks so even better if the next is the same). But if I don't catch this cycle I'll skip the next 2 (potentially just before Christmas and first week of Jan).

It really doesn't matter that much tbh. I have a Christmas baby and a August baby and i always look at the positives like they'll always be off school for birthdays!

I wouldn’t (and didn’t) stop ttc so you don’t get a Christmas baby. As it turns out I haven’t got one, but what if this is ‘your month’ and you miss it and have to wait for ages for your positive test. You would never know, but for me, the desire for a baby was more than not wanting them to have a certain baby.
Babies can be born early or late, so you can’t plan exactly. As others have said, December is the run up to Christmas, January, people have no money. August, do you want to have the youngest child at school. September, baby’s can be born early, so you might end up with an August baby.
I don’t think it matters when your birthday is, there are pros and cons for every time of year.

I have a Christmas Day baby, just turned two! It never even occurred to us when we were TTC what the possible due date would be until the first scan when midwife said due 19th dec and OH laughed and said bet it will be Christmas Day.... to be honest I feel so bad for my ds, for his second birthday we had a party 3 weeks prior to Christmas and already so many of his little cousins couldn’t make it or had to leave early due to Christmas parties and events etc. But at the same time, I do think it’s very special! At the end of the day we will always do what we can to recognise it’s his day too. Also, me and oh hate Christmas pudding so at least we can just have birthday cake instead Wink

I didn’t much like being in hospital at that time though, I was in 23rd-26th and the midwives (rightly so of course) were only doing short shifts so I never got to know or connect with any of them which wasn’t so great. But at least he was my first and I wasn’t away from any other kids, I think I’d avoid it for sure if I had other kids and would be missing out on their Christmas!

I love my Dec birthday, its only a couple of days after Christmas. I love that period of time and celebrations. Plus when you're a teenager, you get to spend your birthday money in the sales. Dont skip a month for that, that sounds a bit crazy to me. Also you may conceive the following month and have a baby at 36 weeks. You can't control these things... having a birthday end of Jan seems more grim. Weather is shit without the Christmas sparkle, everyone is skint, on a diet, dry January. Boring.

We skipped a month to avoid a Christmas baby, we ended up with a February baby so it didn't delay things too much. Its up to you, i know people with birthdays close to Christmas who don't mind and others who do

Sounds like a good plan, given that you are only 3 months into ttc. Losing weight should help too.
We are going to start ttc no2 soon but waiting for after the Christmas window. If it takes ages then I wouldn’t skip it the following year.
All the adults I know with Christmas birthdays hate it.

Well my little one was due in january but decided to arrive early on xmas day! Best present ever, and we will always try to make it as special and separate from xmas as we can.

I have two friends who have birthdays in january and they hate it as no one wants to do anything or has money to go out/spend on presents, and they say they would rather have a December birthday.

I would just get on with ttc, birth months are really not that important. I'm December, it's fine my life has been fine.
One of my DC is July, not ideal for school so I'm told but really not a big deal in real life

I often thought of missing months to avoid a baby being the youngest in the school year. Back in November I considered missing a month to avoid having to hide it over Christmas and avoid an August baby. But, after 26 months of TTC, a diagnosis of low fertility and a miscarriage I decided to try anyway. I’m now pregnant with my August baby and of all the things to worry about, the birth date isn’t even on the list. I’m so glad we didn’t skip a month.

I’d never miss a month...totally pointless.
Babies can come early or late (I’m part of a MN December due date group and our earliest baby came in October with the latest in January! Not one came on Christmas Day!)

My much longed for baby arrived on December 7th. Lovely time of year x

Both my son and husband have a December birthday. My husband hates it, son is too young to know the difference. I hate having them all in December too!
