Has anyone conceived naturally after 1 year?

I’m on cycle 15 of ttc (no pregnancies in that time) and feel like it’s never going to happen. I’ve started having pink spotting tonight so af is on her way AGAIN. The fertility doctor said that it’s perfectly normal to take up to two years to conceive even though I always thought it was a year. Is there anyone on here who had been ttc for over a year and managed to get pregnant naturally before the two year mark?

Hi. Yup! Took us 1 year and 2 months. I had very irregular cycles and a short luteal phase that I managed to lengthen to juuuust enough using vitamins and changing what I ate. DS is now 7. The waiting really gets to you after a while doesn't it? UnMumsnetty hug coming your way

restbiterepeat · 19/01/2018 18:30

Yes, it took about 16 months to conceive ds1 (and then less than two months for ds2 and ds3).

Autumn0909 · 19/01/2018 18:30

Yes! 18 long months of TTC were very hard and involved a PCOS diagnosis for me. I was overweight with a BMI of 28. I lost two stone and my 12 week scan is on Friday.
Good luck!

AppleAndBlackberry · 19/01/2018 18:31

Yes, 20 cycles for me which was 18 months.

Bellamuerte · 19/01/2018 18:33

Depends on your age. By mid-30s your chance of conceiving in one year is only 50/50.

clarkeologist · 19/01/2018 18:33

Took us 3 years for DS1 (were just about to have ivf and then it happened magically), then a further 2 years for DS2.

NickMarlow · 19/01/2018 18:37

Yes. 9 months (11 cycles) with dc1.

Went to the gp after 1 year ttc2. Had the first round if fertility tests, all came back clear. We were 2 weeks off our first appointment at the infertility clinic when I got a positive test. 15 months (18 cycles) of ttc. Had my 12 week scan last week.

It's so hard waiting. Would your gp do some tests? Mine said there was nothing to indicate a problem and her best advice was to keep trying and not get too stressed but that was much easier to do when we had some clear test results.

restbiterepeat · 19/01/2018 18:38

Fwiw, I was a little under weight when we first started ttc and I don't think that helped. It certainly wasn't a factor in the making of ds2 and ds3 Blush

Owlpatrol · 19/01/2018 18:44

@Bubblegum89 I'm so glad you asked this question as you know I'm in the same boat as you....i was reluctant to open this but glad I did as given me some hope! Fx for us both xx

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 19/01/2018 18:45

It took us almost 4 years to conceive. We weren't actively trying but we DTD regularly and used absolutely no contraception.

We were just starting to think about getting a doctor's opinion after our big holiday in November, when it just happened out of the blue!

ThisBabyIsAnOctopus · 19/01/2018 18:47

Both my babies took 2years ttc - first I was 35, second I was 39. Totally normally but very difficult at the time.

Screaminginsideme · 19/01/2018 18:48

Hi it took 18months for me

flumpybear · 19/01/2018 18:49

Yes both took two years!
I actually turned to Agnus castus for my first child, but we decided to stop stressing and just enjoy the Christmas month, go partying and stop worrying .... 2nd jan - positive and she arrived in September!
Second I got a new Job and stopped trying for a baby for a year... stress stopped, baby came literally a year to the day when I started that new job ... albeit the actual plan was to start trying then .... not deliver lol! But I strongly believe stress hinders

Also I lost a little weight by going to the gym which helped as I'm a little squidgy
Good luck!

Sweetiedarlingletmein · 19/01/2018 18:52

Yes it took 3 years. Had all the tests done, nothing wrong with either of us then I conceived the month before our first ivf appointment. Never thought it would happen, but it did!

Bubblegum89 · 19/01/2018 18:55

Thank you so much for your replies, ladies! I’ve had all my tests done as has my OH and everything is fine. I’m just waiting for an appointment for a SIS/HyCoSy to check my tubes and cavity for blockages/scar tissue and then potentially a hysteroscopy if any scarring is found. My daughter was conceived whilst I was on the pill so the waiting game is new for me and I don’t know how people do it. It’s really reassuring to hear that there are those of you who have managed to get pregnant naturally even after the “normal” time frame.

OwlPatrol are you on cycle 15 now too? I know you’ve been ttc for a similar time to me, it’s so frustrating isn’t it. Sending lots of luck to you! x

Yes! Took us just short of 2 years to conceive dd1 and then 2 months to conceive ds. Hence there is only 11 months between them. I honestly thought that it would take another 2 years but hey ho!

spiderbear · 19/01/2018 19:00

Yes. Took us just over a year. I got referred to a fertile docs and as soon as I relaxed cos something was finally being done about it - it happened naturally for us.

BanoffeeCatkin · 19/01/2018 19:04

Yes took 14 months.

But we were being pretty relaxed about it, ie not taking ovulation tests and we didn’t always DTD at the right time each month due to both travelling for work etc. So it wasn’t 14 months of obsessively TTC.

Owlpatrol · 19/01/2018 19:13

14 xx

ShuttyTown · 19/01/2018 19:14

Yep! 2.5 years for each DC (I now have two DC conceived naturally)

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 19/01/2018 19:17

DF was over 2 years. I’d try to assume it will take another year then just enjoy the ride! Smile

Bubblegum89 · 19/01/2018 19:21

We were actively ttc for about 12 months (opks, timing intercourse etc) but have stopped doing that now. I’ve kind of had enough of it to be honest. I keep reading stories about women who have been ttc for years and then it’s just happened out of the blue. It gives me hope but at the same time, because I’ve not had a single bfp since we started, it makes me wonder if there’s something wrong. At this point, I can’t ever see myself getting that bfp that I’m so very desperate for :(

1 year and 11 long frigging months of worry, stress, the thought there was something wrong with me

And there wasn't!!! It just took a bit of time! (We r both young, fit and healthy)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if I could go back I'd have told myself that just because so and so got preggers on month 2 doesn't mean that it is normal. Give it until 2 years and then and only then let your self worry.

It will happen. it just takes time!!

Theclockstruck2 · 19/01/2018 19:29

Yes cycle 15 was the one for me. Fingers crossed for you it’s very hard waiting and worrying.

Discusting · 19/01/2018 19:31

Conceived naturally after 2 years. We had fertility testing but no cause found and hadn’t started any treatment.
