Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Hey Guys,

I’m so glad I’ve seen recent posts. I’ve been reading this for a while and worried if I wrote no on would reply 🙈.

We are TTC.
I can off the pill early December and had a first bleed around the 18th ( I believe withdrawal) I since then had a very light period In January and again in February .. no tampons or pads needed. Only in January a little into a tampon and pad. But brown discharge and couple teaspoons red when going to the toilet. My February one was even lighter and only 3 days ( should I test ?) .

My doctor said with cerelle it thins the lining so I’ve been researching how to thicken this naturally ( it does come back but we are all different). I never had a period on the pill. 4years I was on.

I now half the time don’t know if I imagine symptoms or if they are real !

I do a lot of research but I find my doctor eases my mind best so if you really do want answers ask your doctors even if you think it’s a silly question.

Can’t wait to hear more from you guys

mini84 · 14/02/2020 22:36

@Starstruck57xx
I was on cerelle too and have had light, very light periods since coming off. Did you find any suggestions on how to thicken lining? I didn't know it thinned the lining. I was on it for 8 years.

Starstruck57xx · 14/02/2020 23:23

@mini84 how long have you been off ? It’s not serious and it doesn’t effect anything. I questioned throughout about how it effects fertility. For the whole 4 years, I’m a health freak. We once stopping the cerelle actually are fertile from the day we stop. It’s just the timing of our lining getting back to normal. It’s all dependent on our individual body’s.

Firstly - let me get on this tomorrow and send you the FULL details. I just wanted to respond ASAP.

There is certain foods that help and exercise. I’m all about natural and no tablets etc.

Yoga workouts are the best - Type in build uteruses lining yoga. But I’ll send you what I use tomorrow.

I’m in the states noes so give me a little time to send over the extra info tomorrow xx

Thanks @Starstruck57xx I'll have a google in the meantime.

Bibidy · 04/03/2020 16:18

I'm on Cerelle and have recently started having regular periods again despite not missing any pills?!

Before that I probably had one period every 6 months. Strange!

ItAllStartedHere · 15/03/2020 10:12

Hi all!
I've messaged I'm here many times before but I thought I'd give an update as it might be helpful:
April 2019- Came off Cerelle
June: withdrawal bleed
September: period 1
October: period 2
Early January 2020: blood test, showed there was no issues with my hormone levels and was mid cycle.
January/February: period 3
From April this year I can be referred to a gynaecologist (assuming I won't be pregnant by then)

Hi All
New here but been reading this thread for a while and you have all put my mind to rest :)
I came off cerelle 12days ago and wow I feel rubbish!! The first few days were all normal but then I noticed sore boobs, had some headaches and then last night I had terrible back pain which turned into period pain ALL night yet no period!! Was on cerelle for 4/5 years and had no periods, which was incredible but now never wanted one so much! Thanks to this thread I know it's all normal and not to panic so let's see how it goes!!
Plan to start TTC in a few months, want body to get back to some normality. Not told anybody that planning for a baby, myself and husband have always said we didn't want children but now feels right and we want to surprise everybody if/when it eventually happens! Fingers crossed

NINAMAI · 13/04/2020 17:11

Hiya - I came off Cerelle two weeks ago and had a day of spotting but nothing since. Over the weekend I developed some symptoms such as exhaustion, nausea, mood swings and swollen boobs! Shall I do a pregnancy test? I thought my period was coming as I had period pains but nothing. I have been on Cerelle for under a year and I have conceived before this but I don’t remember any of this before! Worried my period won’t come back!

Chicken123 · 13/04/2020 19:18

Hi,
I came off the mini pill (different one-forgot it’s name, began with a D), on 26th Feb, have had 2 normal, heavy periods since then. I get nausea every day, aching boobs, horrendous mood swings, head aches, bloating, constipation, the whole works. I feel quite lucky that my body seems to be getting back to normal after 7 years on it, but will be a long while before it gets back to normal fully.
They say if your period doesn’t come back after a certain amount of months then you can go to the doctors x

Saraheva · 15/04/2020 12:43

Hi all so I stopped in November after like 4 years of being on the pill.
Feb March and April I have literally had a three day period if even every month is this normal?
I have had the pains and cramps like a period and hormones.
I'm getting frustrated as all I want is a baby and I am getting myself down as to why I'm not getting pregnant. Test after test even got my partner to take a sperm test and everything okay on his end and mine apparently.
I was taking folic acid aswell as doctor said it would help but still nothing.
Feeling very deflated. Keeping thinking I'm not going to be a mum and it's very depressing.

ItAllStartedHere · 09/05/2020 06:47

Hi all me again!
For those that don’t read back:
April 2019- Came off Cerelle
June: withdrawal bleed
September: period 1
October: period 2
Early January 2020: blood test, showed there was no issues with my hormone levels and was mid cycle.
January/February: period 3
March: POSITIVE TEST
April: Scan to see baby
Due: November

It will happen ladies. I had no hope in my heart, but I had to relax about it and for me it took knowing we were about to get a referral to really do this. I’m still in shock honestly but over the moon. Stay positive and TRY (I know how hard it will be) to stop blaming, hating yourself!
Good luck everyone, much love.

VikB5 · 10/05/2020 14:04

Hi guys.

Very new to Mumsnet, so I’m hoping this thread will be able to help.
I came off Cerazette on 2nd April, had a bleed a couple of days later which lasted 3-4 days and have had nothing since.
On 13th April I had EWCM, which I presumed meant I was ovulating. Since then, I have felt nauseous on most days, lower back pain, headaches, cramping & awful bloating (which makes me look like I’m pregnant 😳) which forced me to do a test today as I haven’t had an AF yet, but it was negative.
Do you think it was the right time to test, and is there a possibility I could still be pregnant?
I just can’t shake this bloating/cramping & nausea 🤢

Rle2345 · 02/06/2020 18:47

I’m so glad I found this thread, I have came off Cerelle for the first time in probably 5/6 years, I’ve had all pregnancy symptoms and have been driving myself insane with tests for the last 2 weeks now, I got some faint positives which made things even more confusing!! I’ve had bloods done which confirm I am not pregnant but as a warning coming off Cerelle does give symptoms all associated with pregnancy, I’ve had sore boobs/nipples, back ache, cramps, nausea, headaches and even twinges in my ovaries which I was certain where implantation!

PM86 · 20/06/2020 19:10

Hi guys,

I came off Cerelle in August and had no period until November. Had one in December and then nothing until March and then another one at the end of April. I've been using ovia and flo as we're TTC and it said I was due on 9th June. Before that I had cramps, sore boobs and was an emotional wreck so convinced myself I was pregnant... so far no AF and some negative tests. Any ideas? Is it too early for tests to be positive? I feel a bit nauseous and have weird pain in my hips but I do think I'm just convincing myself something has happened when it hasn't Sad

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has had such long gaps between periods after coming off cerelle. I was on it for 8 years and never had a period at all during that time... Confused
Thank you x

Lillou809 · 02/07/2020 15:57

I’m glad I found this post :) I came off the cerelle on the 16/06/2020..Iv been having period type pains ever since. Me & my partner have obviously been doing the deed..is it too early to test? Thanks ladies 😘 xx

SK2970 · 02/07/2020 16:33

@Lillou809 I expect it will be too early as I wouldn't have expected ovulation straight away and your body is figuring out your cycle again! But you never know so fingers crossed for you!!

Lillou809 · 02/07/2020 16:51

Thank you :) I’m so outta sync with it all 🙈 I was only on the pill for just under a year & finished off the packet. I wasn’t expecting it to happen just like that, just wanted to see if anyone else felt as rubbish with symptoms after coming off it 🤢

SK2970 · 02/07/2020 17:08

@Lillou809 unfortunately lots of symptoms all very similar to pregnancy so messes with the mind!! I was lucky and AF arrived one month after I stopped and I have been 28 day regular since and I had my BFP a week ago! Smile

Lillou809 · 02/07/2020 17:16

Yes definitely does mess with the mind 🤪 before I went on the pill my periods were every 28 days.i finished my last packet on the day I was meant to start my period..Iv never wanted to bleed as much as I do right now 😂 If I was to do a test when’s best to do it? Just incase nothing happens 🤷🏼‍♀️

HorrorQueen · 15/07/2020 16:34

Hi just wanted some advice off people I finished my last Cerelle pill on the 23rd March 2020, I never had any periods whilst taking the pill I was on this for around 2 or 3 years cant remember exaclty how long I was on it for and before that I was on the injection but that was only for about 8 months. I had a withdrawal bleed on 24th April and I've had 4 regular periods since coming off the pill, I just wanted to know roughly how long it takes to conceive after finishing this pill, I've had it in my head that I would of conceived by now as it seems like everyone else I know that stopped the pill got pregnant straight away but it just doesnt seem to be happening for me. I've had all the symptoms of feeling like I was pregnant this has happened on 2 occasions both times I've taken a test and it's been negative then I've had my period not long after. I have an app on my phone telling me what days I'm fertile I've done the deed on these days but nope still not happened for me. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced something similar & how long it took you to conceive if it has happened for any of you guys. Thank you.

SK2970 · 15/07/2020 19:43

@HorrorQueen I stopped Cerelle around the same time as you and everything went back to normal. It took me two proper trying cycles to get my BFP.
Are you only using the app to determine fertile window? I definitely ov earlier than app told me but we had been DTD every other day since after AF finished. So wondering if you ov earlier and just missing it Smile don't stress, it will happen Smile

Rshotmail · 17/07/2020 10:03

I had a regular period while using Cerelle🤔 I stopped using cerelle 2 weeks ago and I’m hoping to conceive ASAP 😂 Is there anyone else in the same boat as me?

HorrorQueen · 17/07/2020 16:37

Sorry to sound a bit dumb but what does BFP and AF mean, I'm new to this so don't understand all the short terms for things. I think I know that DTD is did the deed lol. I only have 1 app that tells me when I'm ovulating but we also DTD when I'm not ready to ovulate as well. I hope it happens soon, it just gets so frustrating when you have all the symptoms then bam aunt flow turns up.

HorrorQueen · 17/07/2020 16:41

I never had any periods with Cerelle which I was happy about as that was the main reason I used the pill to stop my periods as I used to have quite heavy ones and wouldn't leave the house whilst on. I didn't use the pill for contraception back then as I wasn't sexually active. I myself are also looking to conceive hopefully soon. It can be frustrating but by reading this thread and others too I know I'm not the only one. I hope it happens soon for you. I've been off the pill nearly 4 months but so far no luck, just been doing the deed a lot which I'm not complaining about lol.
