Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

@HorrorQueen not dumb at all, all new to this once.
BFP = big fat positive
AF = aunty flo, period.

It is recommended that you DTD (yes do the deed) every other day before ovulation. There are signs to look out for for ovulation, such as different cervical mucus and any potential pains so you might want to have a google! SmileI could definitely tell that I had ovulated way earlier than the app. You can buy ovulation kits which help to determine exact ovulation day but I never tried those.
Hope that helps, wishing you luck!

HorrorQueen · 21/07/2020 17:54

Thank you for your help, I've been DTD before my ovulation date that it says, hopefully it will happen soon. I'll keep you all updated.

HorrorQueen · 24/07/2020 10:15

Hi Everyone I got another question and wanted to know if anyone has had any similar problems. I'm ovulating and have been having really bad cramps in my lower stomach near pelvic area. Last night me and my partner were DTD and I kept getting pains in my cervix they were quite uncomfortable at times, has anyone else suffered with this?

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 16:30

Hi all.
I came off Cerelle beginning of June and had a withdrawal bleed a week later. Since then I have had all of the period symptoms but no period! I am starting to worry. I called my GP who is sending me for blood tests and possibly an ovary scan!
Has anyone else’s GP requested this? It’s made me worry as she just kept saying how strange it is that I’ve not had a period. I have taken a few pregnancy tests and ovulation ones and all negative 👎🏻
Congrats to all of the people who are pregnant and good luck to all those trying ❤️

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 21:40

@Kaylajayne91 Hi!

I came off the pill middle of June and had a withdrawal bleed and a period since! I would say its unusual for your GP to request that so soon, its fairly normal for it to take atleast 3 months for your body to get back into things! It took my friend 4 months after stopping the pill to have a period, her GP told her to wait 6 months before they would do tests. Maybe your GP is just cautious, good know your GP doesnt just fob you off though!

Hope it all goes well!

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 21:44

@Sarahp2308
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I have read this post so much with everyone saying it’s normal and I called the doctors for her to say the same but she’s worried me for keep saying how strange it is.
Good to know I am not the only one who isn’t having a period!
Thanks so much again xx

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 21:50

@Kaylajayne91 It’s not going to hurt to get checked out, and if there is anything not quite right (hopefully not) then it’s good to catch it early & find a solution! I wish my GP was so helpful, mine do anything to keep you away from the surgery 😂😂

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 21:54

@Sarahp2308
Yeah that’s true, I just hope there’s nothing wrong (fingers crossed)!!!!
Hahaha yeah I totally agree with you lol I have to go there for my blood test which I don’t know how I feel about lol
She did say , when she said about the scan, that it will take the NHS 6 months to get me in for a scan and I will probably be pregnant by then lol! We will see xx

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 21:58

@Kaylajayne91 I’m sure everything will be fine, she probably just wants to get the ball rolling if the scan could take up to 6 months! It took my friend 12 months to get pregnant after stopping the pill, it must really mess with your body! x

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 22:03

@Sarahp2308
Thank you! That’s reassuring!!!
Oh wow really??
It’s crazy isn’t it!! People said to me, you’ll get pregnant straight away after coming off and you honestly believe them!!!
Just got to keep trying then :) xx

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 22:09

@Kaylajayne91 I know we spend our lifes trying so hard to prevent getting pregnant not realising there’s so much more to it & it really isn’t that easy x

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 22:24

@Sarahp2308 that’s so so true!! I’ve only just discovered that a period when you’re on the pill isn’t even a true period, that’s a withdrawal one!! It’s crazy!!! Fingers crossed for us all xx

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 22:28

@Kaylajayne91 I know! I wasn’t even having any periods when I was on the pill so my first one was a shock 🤣... hopefully so good news for us all soon! xx

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 22:30

@Sarahp2308 no I wasn’t either so I just assumed my body was craving one lol!! I bet it was a shock 😂😂
Got my fingers crossed for you!!! Please update me when you get the news xx

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 22:37

@Kaylajayne91 I forgot how horrid they are LOL! Will do...fingers crossed for you too..keep me updated on how your tests go too, sure all will be fine! And hopefully some even better news soon! xx

Kaylajayne91 · 24/07/2020 22:43

@Sarahp2308 I know they are the worst lol!!
Yes I will do! Thanks for all the reassurance xx

Sarahp2308 · 24/07/2020 22:45

@Kaylajayne91 you’re welcome xx

I took my last pill on Friday (2 days ago) and got my withdrawal bleed today. My partner and I are getting married in just under 10 weeks so aren't TTC until after the wedding but we've come off cerelle now so my body can start 'getting back to normal'. My periods were always regular like clockwork before being on the pill (went on cerelle 6 years ago), so will my cycle go back to that eventually or could it be completely different? How soon after the withdrawal bleed does the first proper period come? Thanks everyone Smile
Sarahp2308 · 26/07/2020 23:05

Hi @Amy929292 I think its likely that eventually your cycles will be as they were before but it may take a while to get back there, same with the periods to be honest, unfortunately its a waiting game, mine took a couple of week but I know others who took upto 4 months!

Rshotmail · 05/08/2020 16:39

How long has it taken for periods to return after stopping cerelle? I had periods when I was taking it but now I’ve stopped I’m getting nothing. Thanks x

Kaylajayne91 · 05/08/2020 17:09

@Rshotmail
Hi, I have been off of mine for just over 2 months and I had a withdrawal bleed just after I came off but nothing since. My doctor has told me to wait 3 to 6 months longer before going back to her. I’ve had some blood tests and all were normal. I am just so anxious waiting for my period to come.
Hope yours comes soon x

HorrorQueen · 05/08/2020 17:18

I had a withdrawal bleed a month after stopping the cerelle pill and each month since I've had a period. My periods are every 26 days sometimes 1 day earlier. I finished my last pill on 24th March this year and withdrawal bleed was 24th April then period was 20th May, then 15th June, 10th July, and now currently aunt flow is in place. Disappointed to be having my period though as that means not pregnant.

Nam095 · 05/08/2020 18:15

@Rshotmail hi, I came off Cerelle on 3rd July then had a withdrawal bleed 24th-28th, then ovulated on 1st August, each person is different though so as previous poster said if nothing within 3 months speak to your GP x

Rshotmail · 05/08/2020 18:57

Thanks guys. This waiting game is horrible! Can’t wait for my period (never thought I’d say that! 🤣)

mummy2myJJ · 06/08/2020 08:40

@Rshotmail hiya, I came off cerelle 5th June, had no withdrawal bleed and no period at all and got my BFP on 26th July... so just because you don't have your periods properly back doesn't mean you can't fall pregnant Grin good luck xx
