Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Just wanted to come back and update.

Period due a few days ago and didn't come so I tested and it was positive. I couldn't believe it so I tested another two times. I am happy but also scared.

MrsLove89 · 27/05/2019 17:04

@RebootYourEngine I'm new to this thread but have read the lot and I'm so delighted for your news! Thank you so much for keeping us in the loop about your journey. Here's to an easy pregnancy!

My DH and I have been talking again about when to start for kids. We went to Thailand in January so are having to wait for a bit (Zika Virus Risk), but we're also both 30 this year and don't want to wait too long in case it takes a while. Having read your messages, I'm wondering if I should come off the Cerelle a bit early to give AF some time to settle. Thanks for being so open Ladies. I was so relieved when I found this thread and found other people in the same boat. xx

RebootYourEngine · 27/05/2019 21:50

Thank you MrsLove89 for your kind message.

ItAllStartedHere · 29/05/2019 18:39

Fantastic news @RebootYourEngine congratulations.

I am now 6 weeks off Cerelle and still waiting for AF. I'm paying more attention to my CF though and noticed a change in it this month at the same time as the last month. Even though AF hasn't come.

@MrsLove89 I'm 30 this year too but you really do need to be careful if you're coming back from Thailand. But coming off Cerelle and using condoms instead would be a good idea maybe?

MrsLove89 · 29/05/2019 19:17

@ItAllStartedHere - Yeah, we had thought the same thing after reading how long it's taking for everyone's AF to return. We'll be out of the danger zone for Zika soon - the powers that be actually shortened the 'quarantine' time from 6 months to 3 just recently and we've been following all the advice.

ItAllStartedHere · 10/06/2019 06:41

Hey.
I'm up to 8 weeks with no period but for the past week my boobs have been so sore!

Did anyone else get this?

ItAllStartedHere · 14/06/2019 17:51

So sore boobs = period soon.

Stopped taking the pill after 5 years with no period, 14th April.

Period started 14th June.

So happy... even though the cramps are a bitch. It means we can look to start trying now 😊
There is hope. Xx

Hi, I’m new here but I’m sending myself crazy so would really appreciate some advice.
I’ve been taking cerelle (mini pill) for 8 years with no problems. Me and my partner have decided to try for a baby so I took the last pill on Saturday (6 days ago) we have been having a lot of ‘fun time’ since then but he has a problem with delayed ejaculation so hasn’t actually ejaculated in me yet. Sorry if TMI.
Past 2 days I have been feeling as sick as a pig, falling asleep at stupid times in the day and just generally feel pants. I’ve also got a weird kind of heavy stomach with aches/cramps.
Is this a side effect of coming off the pill?! I know the chances of being pregnant already are really slim.
Thanks for any advice x

ItAllStartedHere · 14/06/2019 19:54

@CrazyFooLady
I was definitely really sleepy when I stopped and had some stomach pains too. My moods were all over the place and my boobs hurt more recently too. My skin also went really blotchy and then dry.
It's mad what it can do to you.
I would say that unless you're certain you aren't to do a test the right time after possible conception.
Smile

Congrats @RebootYourEngine!! I have been following your journey on here and I am so delighted to hear your good news. Smile
I am eventually on the TTC journey. So excited and so hoping it happens for me quickly.

wannabemum38 · 26/06/2019 23:11

So glad to read other people that are on same pill as me.
So I missed a few pills last month stress and stuff and me my DP DTD but seeing as it takes couple of days for your womb to return to normal doubt I am pregnant but did a test last week it was a BFN but will probably test again this week as then it will be a month.
However we have decided to start TTC properly so stopped Cerelle this week my last pill I took was Sunday morning. So guess see what happens from here on in really. Excited/nervous as I am older so not holding out much hope of it happening quickly.

Delly74 · 08/08/2019 07:44

I stopped Cerelle in April, its now August and I haven't had a bleed and have been told by the doctor that I need to go down the route of IVF if I want to conceive.

ItAllStartedHere · 09/08/2019 09:35

Oh my goodness @Delly74 that's scary. Did they do any blood tests or medication to try and reboot your cycle first? Or just told you that IVF is the way forward?

I came off in April too. Had a week bleed in June but nothing since and I'm not pregnant.
I best get myself to the doctors.

L4uraRx · 09/08/2019 23:27

Hi there, I'm exactly the same. I stopped in April. Had blood for 4 days in June and nothing since and I'm not pregnant. Dont understand it x

wannabemum38 · 10/08/2019 00:24

@Delly74 Wow thats quick for them to get to that conclusion I heard most doctors make you try for a year before even investigating.

I came off it in June had my first cycle after 33 days and now ovulating according to OPK tests. We shall see I am trying to be positive but I know its just not as easy as it seems to get pregnant at my age ( I am 38 will be 39 next month)

Delly74 · 10/08/2019 07:29

I had blood tests but was not offered Clomifene or a progesterone withdrawal test, I have been in touch with the hospital asking why I haven't been offered these but to be honest I came away from the hospital with my head buzzing, nothing was explained to me. Doctor said whatever will be will be :(

ItAllStartedHere · 10/08/2019 15:05

@L4uraRx this sounds harsh but I'm glad it isn't just me!!!! I've started taking a conception vitamin thing as it's meant to support reproductive health. I'm going to give that a month and then go to the doctors if nothing starts.

I get the NHS is jammed. But you deserve some clarity in regards to what your body is doing @Delly74 I'd be getting myself another doctors appointment. Or maybe a sexual health clinic might offer some help?

L4uraRx · 10/08/2019 22:04

@itallstartedhere I know! I've been to the docs just to see if everything was ok but she told me not to worry start taking the folic acid tablets and 'enjoy' the trying lol. They wouldnt consider referring us to a clinic until we have been trying for a year.

Just keeping my fingers crossed but hard to sort out the ovuatlion calendar when I haven't had any more blood since they 4 days in june 🙈😔 xx

Delly74 · 11/08/2019 18:57

@L4uraRx have also been to clinic and they said to go to doctors as they don't deal☹️will keep going a while life longer but time is of the essenceConfused

wilfred1983 · 10/09/2019 21:10

Hi I am looking for some advice, so I came off the cerelle pill 8th August and had 2 days of very light pink bleeding two days after stopping the pill, also had lots of symptoms sore boobs feeling sick headaches tiredness and also being sick so I took a pregnancy test and there was a faint positive line which I was excited about, but decided to do another one and it was negative waited another week that one was also negative but I’m still having all the symptoms of pregnancy I remember them when I was pregnant with my daughter,, can someone please help me I’m going out of my mind!

L4uraRx · 16/09/2019 21:04

@Delly74 I know! I've now had a full period for 4 days at the start of september but been taking obvulation tests and just had the blank circle. Hard to work all this out when the last time I had a period was in June 😢. Gonna keep taking an obvulation test every day this month and see what happens.

Delly74 · 17/09/2019 10:06

Laura, had a bleed last month and thought this was withdrawal bleed, another bleed was due 12th Sep but sadly nothing. Was at hospital yesterday for more blood tests and have an appointment next month, husband also needs to provide swimmer sample Grin
Time is against us, doubt it will happen

ItAllStartedHere · 21/09/2019 11:30

Thought I'd update. I do have a blog post about it but I'll do it here too.
Came off the pill mid April.
So I had what I guess was a withdrawal bleed mid-June.
Nothing
More nothing- starting taking conception vitamins.
Period the first week of this month after having positive ovulation tests two weeks before.
Waiting to see if I have another period to work out my cycle length but have DTD just in case it might work.

Hope the timeline might help others.

AdventureAhead · 02/10/2019 21:32

@itallstartedhere that's a really useful timeline. Thanks. New to Mumsnet and just come off Cerelle so we can start trying for baby number 1. After reading all the posts here it seems like it will
