Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Oh have fun TTC @HMFx and keep us updated with wedding bits!!

We’re currently waiting for our house move to go through so defo have enough stress already! X

HMFx · 13/05/2021 20:22

@RM9827 thank you lovely! Hope yours eases too. It’s so hard being a woman 😅

@31TTC thank you lovely! I’m super excited. Also excited for the wedding too but it’s getting closer and I feel very unprepared. I tried my dress on again two days ago and it fits so that’s a big relief after three lockdowns 😂. Hope all goes well with your house move. I can imagine how stressful. I work in new build sales and always hear it from my customers. Sending lots of positivity your way xxx

31TTC · 13/05/2021 20:36

@HMFx ahhh so glad your dress fits!! I bet a wedding is super stressful too but I’m sure you have more done that you realise!
It’s the solicitors - they’re messing about! Apparently they’re all renowned for it! Xxx

HMFx · 13/05/2021 21:03

@31TTC yes I’m hoping that’s the case. People tell me you won’t stress about a thing in the day so I’m trying to get into that mindset now haha.

Oh yes solicitors are the worst. I’ve only dealt with a handful that are actually helpful!!!! Just keep pestering until you get your answers. Xx

31TTC · 14/05/2021 06:24

What’s the wedding date?! @HMFx
Sure it’ll all be amazing!

Hoping for some news on it next week 🤞🏼Xxx

HMFx · 19/05/2021 15:16

@31TTC it's 25th September! I'm so excited but more excited to try for a baby haha. We will probably try a bit before the wedding tbh.

Keep us updated with your house move!! Xx

31TTC · 22/05/2021 19:11

ah @HMFx amazing! sure you'll have the best day! haha yeh it can be fun!

ah will do, currently waiting on our useless solicitors again, made spelling errors on our contracts on our names! xx

31TTC · 02/06/2021 20:08

Hey ladies,

Can’t believe I’m sending this message... I finally got that BFP!!!! Well 3 actually!!!!! According to the digital test I did I’m 3+ weeks! Awaiting my first appointment!

Did not see this happening for a while!!!
Hope you’re all well. Don’t give up, I relaxed a little with checking my ovulating etc & then it’s happened xxxx

HMFx · 03/06/2021 13:18

@31TTC

Omg congrats!!!!! How exciting. Super happy for you 🧡🧡🧡

31TTC · 03/06/2021 16:45

Ah thank you @HMFx I’ve spent today trying not to tell my mum & sis, spent the day with them & my sisters 10week old baby boy! So tempted to just say but want to be certain & be able to show a scan at least! Xxz

Kat668 · 03/06/2021 21:47

@31TTC wow congratulations!! That's such amazing news!

31TTC · 03/06/2021 21:51

Thank you @Kat668 didn’t think it would happen yet so I was surprised when Aunt Flo didn’t show! Lol xx

HK90 · 23/06/2021 21:44

Hello,

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, it has totally put my mind at ease with the waiting game that is coming of Cerelle!

I had been on Cerelle for 5/6 year's, can't remember to be honest! Last pill was taken on 31st May, so I am currently 23 days off the pill.
I am becoming increasingly impatient...which I know is stupid as I know it takes time after coming off but I just want AF to arrive so I know where I am at and can start tracking!
My partner and I have been DTD throughout the 23 days (no harm in trying right!?)
I have had some symptoms - sore boobs (unreal and absolute agony!), sore/cramping stomach, fatigue and mood swings so hopefully she is on her way!

Anyway, thank you all again and I will keep you posted if AF arrives or anything else happens!

xx

HK90 · 29/06/2021 08:33

Im not sure if anyone is still using this thread but just wanted to post incase anyone was like me and has been reading through everyones posts.
AF arrived this morning! I am delighted. Exactly 4 weeks from stopping my pill...I was getting so impatient and also worried so its a relief she is here!
Looking forward to being able to track and hopefully its a fertile cycle to come!
Hope everyone is well xxx

Fanciedachange1 · 29/06/2021 15:51

Hi everyone,

I stopped taking Cerelle around Easter time to TTC. I’m 32 and have been on the mini pill since I was 18 and for the majority of the time had no periods whilst taking the pill.

Prior to taking cerazette my periods were heavy, painful and lasted around 7 days roughly every 6 weeks give or take a few days.

Since stopping I have had a short withdrawal bleed for a few days then on and off “periods” since, lasting a few days of very light bleeding followed by nothing for a few days and then a few more light days. Recently I’ve had a decent period so it seems things are heading in the right direction.

No idea about ovulation or anything. I’m making a note of bleed days incase I need to see a nurse for further advice and just trying not to obsess over it.

On sunday we had sex, I started on top and everything felt absolutely fine. We then switched to missionary and it felt so uncomfortable it was borderline painful. The only way I can describe it was as though I had trapped wind. That bloating pain you get in your stomach but lower.

Afterwards I felt ok, but today I have had a dull ache on my right hand side where I would guess my ovary would be.

Is this likely to be anything serious? I am up to date with smear tests, and was hoping to try and have sex again just to see if it was a one off pain before I go to the doctors about it but I’m a natural born worrier!

HK90 · 30/06/2021 14:57

Hi @Fanciedachange1
Thats great to hear your period seems to be going in the right direction in terms of some sort of cycle. fingers crossed it carries on and then you can get a better idea of ovulation etc.
Im over the excitement of my period starting and now want it to finish so I can track and get busy haha.
With regards to the discomfort/pain you are feeling I can't really help with this as haven't experienced it myself.
If it where me I would definitely try having sex again to see if it was coincidence and if it is I would then maybe look to seek some advise from the doctor.
I am a natural born worrier as well so I completely sympathise. I hope it resolves itself or you get to the bottom of it soon.
xxx

Fanciedachange1 · 01/07/2021 17:12

@HK90 thank you for your reply.

i tried having sex again and there was no further pain (although I avoided missionary) but I am now having cramping like pains in the right hand pelvic area. These are throughout the day and seem worse when I change position but are generally just like a dull ache like a period pain. No bleeding or spotting.

I’m thinking maybe I should ring the doctors tomorrow and try and book an appt with the wellwoman clinic. I’m so worried about things like ectopic pregnancy! I’ve not had a positive pregnancy test though and I know that would be very, very uncommon to happen.

With my larger than normal boobs with the highly sensitive nipples, it could just be something period related like the build up to my new normal periods.

Argh! I hate these kind of scenarios because I really hate ringing the doctors (esp since I have had 2 phone appts for a non related issue in the last month) so I don’t want them to think I’m ringing all the time and wasting their appointments!

HK90 · 05/07/2021 12:46

Hi @Fanciedachange1
I obviously am no expert but I think you should go and see your doctor if your as concerned as you seem. did you call them? how did you get on?
Dont feel bad about phoning them, your as important as anyone else looking for an appointment even if you've been in touch with them about other stuff.
let me know how you got on.

xx

Fanciedachange1 · 07/07/2021 14:31

@HK90 I didn’t call the doctors, I ended up getting my period unexpectedly and now the pain I was getting has gone and was replaced by normal period cramps!

I made a note of the date in my calendar and this was 27 days from the start of my last period so I think (well hope) things are heading in the right direction in terms of my cycles getting regular and around 28 days between the start of each one.

I was so freaked out though as most periods I had before the pill always started in the morning when I went for my first wee. I know now how lucky that is! The night before this one I had a dream that I was at work and nipped to the toilet to change my pad. Bit of an odd detail to remember but when I woke I had come on during the night.

HK90 · 09/07/2021 10:01

@Fanciedachange1 hey! Glad the pain has reverted to normal period pains .... hopefully not too bad for you.
That's a good idea to note everything down. I've been doing the same just to keep me right so if it did end up you need the doctor atleasy you've you've it note of everything. Hopefully not though and like you say fingers crossed things are heading in the right direction.

I'm feeling quite positive today. My app said from yesterday through to the 14th are my most fertile days with ovulation on the 13th. I did an ovulation test yesterday and nothing but this morning I got a flashing smiley so fingers crossed this first cycle is a normal one. Well and truly on the case for dtd over the next 6 days! 🤣 xxx

Fanciedachange1 · 10/07/2021 13:39

Hk90 fingers crossed for you!

I’m debating trying some ovulation tests and I see them mentioned quite often so hopefully that might be a good way to go.

It’s so difficult isn’t it! I remember when I was on the pill I was terrified that if I missed one I would get pregnant! Now I feel so silly for not realising just how ‘difficult’ it actually is to work out the dates etc that you actually can become pregnant. x

HK90 · 10/07/2021 16:29

@Fanciedachange1 thank you 😬❤
I would definitley recommend the app glow and using the ovulation sticks. I'm trying not to get too obsessed with that side of things but at the same time my app and the ovulation sticks have linked up and are both telling me the same thing. That has totally put my mind at ease that things are doing what they should be in there!
Aw I know, you spend so long trying not to get pregnant and like you say thinking one missed pill and it would happen . Then when it comes to it there is actually such a small window!
Xx

CRM96 · 25/07/2021 15:14

Hi all,

Have loved reading everyone’s experiences.

I am looking to come off the pill in August. Can people share if they got pregnant straight away or did it take a few of months? Should I start taking vitamins?

HK90 · 25/07/2021 17:12

Hi @CRM96
I am only just starting to TTC and currently on the TWW for the first time..becoming impatient! I will keep posting on here with any updates.
My take away from reading through the comments is that the time it takes to fall pregnant is different for everyone. Some people have fallen pregnant straight away others not so easily. I definitely think everyone is different so I tried not to get too caught up in that.
I would start taking folic acid now with vitamin D. They say 3 months prior to TTC ideally to start taking folic.

ORIGINAL POSTER HERE

Hello gorgeous Ladies,

I've had a name change now but I am the original 'AD3'.... there is waaaay too much for me to catch up on since posting back in 2018 😂 But thought I'd drop by seeing as we are TTC #2.... We currently have a son who is 2.5 yrs! After making this thread, we actively started trying in April and fell pregnant in June 🙂 So we were super lucky 🤞🏻 I am currently on Cycle 2 for our second baby and have been on Cerelle since DS.... Again, no periods throughout, so was interested to see what my body did the second time round.... I stopped taking them on the 12th of June, had a bleed a few days later then had a gruelling 38 day cycle 🤦🏻‍♀️ I did OV in between as I've been using LH sticks, thought I'd go in knees deep this time straight away... 😂 Unfortunately AF showed her ugly face a couple days ago, so it's a fresh start again! Will keep you posted on how long this cycle lasts 💪🏻

Good luck and baby dust to you all 💕
