Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Thank you @LilyRose202 I've booked a private early scan for a few weeks time so should be able to (hopefully) see a heartbeat. I'm tentatively excited but the prospect of waiting for first NHS scan is giving me a touch of anxiety.

Will keep you all updated, in the meantime already got the delights of early preg - VERY sore boobs and struggling to erm...go... tmi info I know 😂

3rd cycle off cerelle

Previous cycles were 25 and 22 days. Currently CD28. I used OPK’s around the time that I had positives last month and nothing. Then I decided they were stressing me out and chucked them out so not sure whether I ovulated this month.

So not sure if getting to CD28 is because of pregnancy, late period or because I skipped ovulation this month.

Trying to hold out a few more days before testing in case AF is late and it’s still my body adjusting

Hello! Hope you don't mind me joining in :) just joined mumsnet as today is my first day off cerelle, but I read this this thread when doing research! We've been planning to TTC once I turned 30 (which was last month) but were originally going to wait until May to TTC so that the baby wouldn't be born in Dec or Jan Grin, but we were both incredibly impatient and decided we couldn't wait any longer! Going to give myself two and half weeks to get used to not being on some form of pill for 12 years! Then as soon as April hits we're full on TTC!

Sorry for the long intro ha! But this thread has really helped me prepare for what to expect coming off.

HMFx · 17/03/2021 11:15

Hi all,

Thought I would join this conversation as it's really helped me in making some decisions about coming off the pill.

I've been on Cerelle for about 2/3 year after being on other types beforehand.

I am getting married in September so had been planning to come off the pill around then but reading some of your experiences of getting your cycle back to 'normal', I'm feeling that 6 months before my wedding (which would be now) would be a good time to come off and try and establish my cycle again.

I've previously used Natural Cycles to track my periods but whilst using other forms of contraception so I'm planning to do this again so that hopefully when it comes to TTC it will be a bit more accurate with my ovulation.

I'm so excited - this will be our first time TTC so I feel really excited to share it. My last pill will be this Sunday (21st March).

I've had no periods throughout my Cerelle journey up until recently when I've had irregular spotting/bleeds (whic have been investigated by my GP to no avail) - they think it might just be hormonal changes as I've lost a bit of weight recently.

Anyway - sorry to ramble but it feels good to hear from people in a similar position and I really just wanted to post to say thank you for all of your comments and advice! :)

Hey there!
How are we all? Any updates?

My fiancé and I have started TTC this month. I used ovulation tests and TTC on one low fertility day, one high fertility day, my 2 peak fertility days and then the day after as well - yes, we have been v busy! Haha. That was all between 6 and 11 days ago. It's too early to test yet apparently so (very impatiently) awaiting this Sunday when AF is due. I'm trying to just remain calm and not be disappointed if it's negative as I know we have plenty of time on our side but my god, my ovaries have been sore for almost a week now. Cramping and twinges on and off. It started on the right side and a couple of days later moved to the left and has been ongoing ever since. I'm also urinating like it's going out of fashion too. Could these be signs? Frequent toilet trips apparently happens a good few weeks in but when I was pregnant before (before sadly MC) I was at the toilet all the time and it was early days. I don't want to get my hopes up but also don't want there to be a problem (something else going on unrelated to conception) as I don't normally get these pains after ovulation and over a week before AF. Any ideas?
Xxx

Hey all!
Been reading this thread for some time now so thought I’d give my experience coming off Cerelle. I stopped taking the pill on Jan 17, AF arrived 17th Feb. I came off to start tracking my cycle and get the pill out my system as my partner and I wanted to start our TTC journey later on this year. AF is now 5 days late, I have been feeling like I’m going to come on but no blood, did a test this morning and got a BFP. Been and bought the digital clear blue and that says 2-3 weeks. I have been using Flo and Premom app to track my fertility and avoided DTD in those times but I obviously ovulated early/late. I’m feeling very overwhelmed and somewhat upset as I didn’t plan on it happening so soon.

Hi guys!
I'm on day 14 of my third cycle since stopping cerelle mid December.
The symptoms have improved greatly! Though breast tenderness appears to be a new symptoms during the ovulation stage for me, which I'm not a fan of. Does anyone else get this?

I've been taking ovulation tests since finishing AF on this cycle as for some reason I'm worried I don't ovulate at all, so just want to check everything is in order. All tests have been negative or very faint so far, so not sure if nothing is happening or if I'm just a bit early on the testing.

Hope you're all doing well!

BmC55x · 02/04/2021 11:43

Is anyone still on here.

xxxhazzeexx · 05/04/2021 18:33

Beehappy21 · 05/04/2021 18:58

Hey everyone, I've not posted for a few months! I last week found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant 😍! @xxxhazzeexx I took my last pill on the 16th of December, I'm just over 5 weeks.. and I've been ill for a few weeks in between so trying was very last on my priorities 🤦‍♀️ x

xxxhazzeexx · 05/04/2021 19:40

@Beehappy21 wow so not long at all im hoping im not waitng to long hope your feeling better now x

LilyRose202 · 05/04/2021 20:20

@Beehappy21 Congratulations! Hope you're keeping well.

I am going to take friends' and family advice and (with great difficulty) not going to track for the next few months and see what happens. I have learned that almost everyone I know who has got pregnant did not get obsessed over it and when they didn't track, it happened. So that is the plan! Focusing on getting into my wedding dress with only 3 months to go so that's the aim right now and we will see what happens. 😊 xx

Beehappy21 · 07/04/2021 08:15

@xxxhazzeexx thank-you! Not long at all, I have my fingers crossed for you!!

@LilyRose202 thank-you.. what an exciting thing to focus on though!! 😍 Hope everything goes perfect for you x

xTinkerbell · 19/04/2021 06:02

4th cycle off cerelle and bfp yesterday!

Beehappy21 · 19/04/2021 06:20

@xTinkerbell congratulations!! 😍😍

xTinkerbell · 19/04/2021 09:37

@Beehappy21 thank you! Only 4 weeks so still early but keeping everything crossed.

@LilyRose202 absolutely true for us! I just had my bfp on cycle 4 of trying. First 3 cycles I didn’t use OPK’s but was basically symptom spotting for ovulation etc. The cycle we conceived I didn’t care, didn’t look at my app and didn’t know which day of my cycle I was on until I noticed implantation bleeding and counted the days 😂

LilyRose202 · 19/04/2021 19:34

@xTinkerbell Great news! Congratulations! 😁😁
How many days dpo were you with implantation bleeding? I've had 3 cycles now, next weekend will be my 4th. Trying to act like I don't care but 😬😬 we shall see what happens! I didn't do an ovulation test this month and just hoped for the best tbh. Been focusing on cutting down eating and getting fit instead. Xx

xTinkerbell · 19/04/2021 19:44

@LilyRose202

I’m not entirely sure because I didn’t track this cycle and my previous cycles have been a bit of a mess (25, 21 and 36 days since coming off cerelle) but it was on CD26.

Keeping everything crossed it happens soon for you

S120 · 21/04/2021 20:50

Hi All, I have just sat and read your conversations and thought I would share my story.
I was on the combined pill for 10+ years and after having headaches I changed to cerelle in October 21. I have terrible acne now all over my face and back due to the pill. Me and my partner decided to come off the pill in Jan, 24th of feb I had a two day bleed. Now I’ve not had anything since!!
I’m so confused can I still get pregnant? My app says my last period was 56 days ago and that just seems crazy.

Thank you!
S x

Dwc94 · 28/04/2021 21:15

I am so glad I found this thread!

I’ve spent my evening with the most horrific headache I’ve ever had reading all of the posts and have been reassured that my symptoms are normal.

I came off cerelle on 12/4 and was expecting AF but can see now that I may be waiting a while longer! Looking forward to TTC soon!

Fghost · 11/05/2021 15:55

Hello everyone! I came off Cerelle on 4th April and had what I assumed to be a very short, light withdrawal bleed a week later. Yesterday I started what I assume to be my first real period, and it's the heaviest bleed I've ever experienced in my life! I only took Cerelle for 6 months, and before that my periods were always wonderfully short and light. Did you ladies find that your periods eventually went back to their normal state after your bodies settled down after coming off Cerelle? I'm really hoping that this is temporary, and the birth control hasn't somehow changed my periods into these awful heavy monsters, because I bled a lot while taking it too. Has anyone else experienced this, and did it calm down with time?

31TTC · 11/05/2021 22:02

Hey ladies!

Ahhh I’ve missed so much!

@xTinkerbell & @Beehappy21 what amazing news!!! Wishing you both all the best!

@LilyRose202 hey lovely! Keep looking forward to that wedding!

Quick recap - I took my last pill on 4th dec 2020, AF came 4th jan, and has been super regular ever since, only lasts 3/4 days with one super heavy day with horrendous pains. Have found myself with a very high sex drive & super emotional!
Only used OPKs in March, with all low results except 1 result saying peak, then nothing. So now not tracking that, trying to just keep a check on AF & when TTC. Shall see if “not thinking about it” helps! X

HMFx · 13/05/2021 11:24

Congrats @xTinkerbell and @Beehappy21 - sorry just catching up!

Thought I would update on my journey since coming off Cerelle.

I had a bleed about 4 weeks after stopping the pill which was like a normal period so I counted it as such.

My doctors didn't find any reason for my irregular bleeding thank goodness and said everything looked great and if I want to try for a pregnancy they see no issues! So happy.

I'm now on my second period although it's only been about 23 days cycle this month. Before the pill I was always super regular of 28 days.

@RM9827 - I was the same with the sore boobs! Never had anything like it. Even small movements hurt!! Much better now and have settled but still worse than they used to be. I have also been taking ovulation tests and last month just got negatives but my app worked out the day I ovulated and sods law I didn't take a test around that day so not sure. Will find out hopefully this month whether I am ovulating.

@31TTC - I am the same with the sex drive and emotions. I literally cry at videos on facebook at the moment lol. Sending you lots of luck in your journey!

Anyway it's lovely to hear from you all and I'm literally counting down until we can TTC once my wedding is out the way in September! To be honest we will probably try a month before the wedding to see what happens. Exciting!!

Hope to hear from you all soon with lots of updates :)

HMFx · 13/05/2021 11:26

@Fghost - I'm only on my second period since coming off and it is heavy but mine usually are. Pains are worse than I remember. I definitely have more symptoms and PMS than ever before. Hoping yours settle down for you!!

@Dwc94 - Good luck with your journey :)

RM9827 · 13/05/2021 12:02

@HMFx exactly like me! My boobs were agony but they're so much better now, though its given me complete boob dear. However now I'll just get an occasional twinge but it's random to where or which side it happens.
I'm still waiting before TTC, but I took some ovulation tests out of curiosity to make sure everything is back up and running, but I forgot to do it on the 2 days my app said would be my ovulation! I'll get round to it eventually Grin

But glad to hear it's all easing off for you!
