Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

Hi @LilyRose202 and congrats on your AF appearance! Looks like you had one of the quicker ones like me.

On my tracking app, it's predicting my 2nd period in 10 days so fingers crossed its accurate!
Still getting the breast ache/nipple pain but definitely a lot less than before. However it can have its bad moments, but that might just be because I'm focusing on it too much.
You mentioned you fainted, and I can't confirm it's pill related but I have been having a bit of light-headedness the past week and have had to wear my glasses every day.
I've started drinking a lot more water and eating more fruit, which I think is helping! I'm going to start going on regular walks too for some fresh air as being cooped in the house during lockdown has made me feel awful.

Hope you're all doing well ladies! xx

RM9827 · 02/02/2021 16:57

Apologies @glow92 as my feed missed your message!
I didn't really have much of a withdrawal bleed myself, just some tiny spotting a day or 2 after stopping.

Breasts pains/ache/heaviness seems to be common with everyone but that makes sense since your hormones are trying to sort themselves out and that affects breasts a lot.
Libido isn't mentioned much, but I have noticed an increase in this since my 1st period ended Grin

Hope you get the results you want as quickly as possible!

glow92 · 02/02/2021 18:43

@RM9827 it could possibly have just been the excitement of doing it as now it could lead to something but either way my partner wasn't complaining!
Just finished 2nd AF, this one was light throughout and only about 3.5 days... strange.

RM9827 · 05/02/2021 08:53

Hi all!
Been tracking my cycle on Flo and its predicted my next period to be in 7 days so hopefully its accurate.
Yesterday I had almost no breast ache/soreness at all! However, I've woken up today and they're a bit heavy and achey, but not sure if this is just PMS. Has anyone else had the same?

The light-headedness has definitely improved. I haven't had to wear my glasses in 2-3 days now because it's gotten better!

Hope you're all doing well xx

Has anyone had random mid cycle bleeding in the first few months after coming off cerelle?

I stopped on December 10th, tiny bit of spotting on Dec 15th, first period December 18th. Then I got my next period 25 days later. Felt hopeful my body was on track to normal then 12 days after my period I started getting light spotting (just before I went to bed yesterday and still going today).

I’m trying to give my body the 3 months to fully settle down but I worry so much

RM9827 · 05/02/2021 16:08

Hi @xTinkerbell
Can't say I've had any mid cycle spotting myself. I did have some a few days after stopping cerelle, but had none since my last period.

3 to 4 months is what I've seen recommended for your cycle to get back to fairly normal, however may take longer for some. If you're unsure at any time, I'm sure your GP will be able to help!
I'm a big worrier too. It's been just over a month for me and I'm worried about any ache or pain, but I'm pushing for the 3 to 4 months first as I'm sure most will wear off.

xTinkerbell · 05/02/2021 16:15

@RM9827 thanks for replying!

That’s what I’m trying to do, give it the time to see everything settles down then if it doesn’t I’ll go to the GP. This is only really my second full cycle so trying to remind myself it’s still fairly early

31TTC · 06/02/2021 10:48

Hi ladies, been a while since I checked in!

Welcome @BmC55x
Ahh @LilyRose202 believe it or not, me too!!

Quick summary :
Came off Cerelle after 10years on 4th December 2020, at the end of the month started experiencing mild cramping, headaches & sore nipples, then my withdrawal bleed came with a vengeance on 3rd January 2021 and I couldn’t even get out of bed the first day, so heavy, horrendous cramps, headache & super emotional! Lasted approx 4 days.
Through out the month I’ve been experiencing mood swings & crying a lot!
And then AF beautifully arrived 3rd Feb 2021 so in sync with my withdrawal bleed! Craziness! Again super heavy, couldn’t get up one day to go to work, cramps stopped me sleeping but I was still so happy it came.

I know things may still vary but I just can’t believe the timings!
Also quick question, as I don’t remember from previously, is it normal to be feeling super frisky through out AFs visit?! Grin
Hope you’re all well!!! Xxx

31TTC · 06/02/2021 10:53

Sorry ladies it seems my feed missed a few posts when I replied!

Handy to see @glow92 saying about increased libido too haha! My other half has loved it!

I’m not going to get my hopes up too much that AF stays this on time & regular but it’s a good start. I don’t want to do use ovulating kits yet but perhaps a few months down the line. Xx

LilyRose202 · 06/02/2021 11:08

Hey ladies!
So nice to see many more of us in the same boat. More lockdown babies may be on the cards then 😂

@glow92 I don't know much about length of cycle as not been off the pill for that long yet but will keep an eye on it. I find the ovulation times and length of period etc very confusing! I always thought you just do the deed and there we go, baby! 😂🙈
@RM9827 Thanks, pleased it arrived but starting to wonder if it was a withdrawal bleed. Not sure on the difference between a period and withdrawal. It lasted 5 days, was heavy for the first 3 and painful on day 1 and 2 but subsided quickly after that 🤷🏻‍♀️. If it comes again at a similar time next month then that's the main thing.
@31TTC Hi, nice to hear from you. Yay! So pleased it came for you too. If it happened at roughly the same time as the previous month, maybe the first one could have been a period? Do we all get a 'withdrawal bleed?' not sure the difference 🙈.
I can definitely relate to the increase in libido 😜. Wow! Every day last week when AF started... Now we know how most men feel daily! 😂😂
Have fun! 😜

xxx

glow92 · 06/02/2021 11:48

Hey @31TTC , I'm just hoping that if we don't conceive for a while that it still stays as fun and frequent! I've started to get a little anxious about when it will happen - completely my own fault doing so much googling/reading, wish I'd come off Cerelle much earlier to track my cycles for a while before TTC.... @LilyRose202 it's mad isn't it, hammered into us that one tiny unprotected slip-up would do the job!

31TTC · 07/02/2021 09:35

Hi ladies!

@LilyRose202 Yes I was a little bit like oh perhaps it wasn’t a withdrawal bleed, just the 1st period?! They’ve kind of been the same for me.
We’ve been the same @glow92 came off thinking it wouldn’t be hard/long & now already finding ourselves disappointed when not getting a positive!
Just have to wait it out I guess xx

xTinkerbell · 07/02/2021 10:24

I fell pregnant in cycle 1 after coming off combined pill with baby 1. Only on cycle 2 now and know it’s totally normal to not be pregnant but after being so quick last time I can’t help being disappointed

LilyRose202 · 07/02/2021 12:58

Good afternoon!
I have been warned not to track periods, body temp etc as you only stress about it which can also lead to failing to conceive but now that I'm in this position myself, all you want to do is track.
I've read it can be good to take different supplements and vitamins as well. I got that info from Mumsnet actually. Are you all on supplements (iron, folic acid etc)?

@xTinkerbell That's great you got pregnant so quickly first time round. Every pregnancy is apparently very different and thinking about how wonderful our bodies really are, we do need to give them time. In the grand scheme of things, a couple of months is nothing really and it's good to let your body get back into the swing of things 🙂. I've just been on a run this morning and feeling all the positive vibes so thought I'd share 😂
Maybe when I'm ttc is March/April/May I won't be feeling quite so chilled 😅. Keeping yourself busy and active seems to be helping many of us so far. Xxx

glow92 · 07/02/2021 13:07

I kind of feel silly saying it as it know it can take over a year or more even for those without any problems but I'm anxious for how i'll cope with that if so - I can do everything right and it's still out of my control! Just really need Covid to go away then at least we can do more with our time.

@LilyRose202 I've got vitamin C (which I took pre-TTC), folic acid and B6.

LilyRose202 · 07/02/2021 13:12

@glow92 Yeah I know what you mean and covid plus restrictions isn't helping. I definitely feel I'm going a bit more demented this time round (lockdown #3) and yet I do have work from home to keep me busy... Maybe too busy at times.
Fingers crossed we're out of this soon.

I'll order some supplements then 🙂. Thanks!
WHEN we get our beautiful babies, this will all be so worth it. Take care. Xxx

xTinkerbell · 07/02/2021 13:31

@LilyRose202 Absolutely ! I suppose all I mean was first time round I didn’t get have the worry etc so this all feels very new to me. I know a couple of months is no time at all really but I’m the worlds worst worrier so it’s the trying to calm my head down and be rational. The positive vibes are exactly what I need though.

glow92 · 07/02/2021 16:35

I'm also working from home, but I'm only at about half the amount that I would have to do normally so I'm alone with my thoughts a bit too much!
We usually go away this time of year which would have been amazing right about now, and jan/feb is busy with family birthdays which have obviously all been missed this time round.

If anyone has some other supplement/vitamin recommendations please let me know as mine are just cheapies... I don't know much about pregnacare/conceive plus are they just separate vitamins rolled into one?

I'm only CD10 but have been OPK testing the last couple days as last cycle was only 25 days... no sniff of a rise so far.

RM9827 · 08/02/2021 20:59

Hi all!

How's everyone with symptoms at the mo? Mine seem to be a lot better. According to my tracker app, my next AF visit should be in 4 days. I've noticed my breasts are a bit tender/sensitive when touched and had a bit of nipple pain in both, but nothing like the heaviness and aches I was having constantly when I first stopped cerelle.
The light-headedness is almost a thing of the past too, and I've not had to wear my glasses for days!

Regarding supplements, I'm currently taking 375mg Magnesium, 2 x Floradix tablets per day, and St John's Wort. This is for myself rather than baby prep.
Ive also began going on 5km walks with my mum each night and I feel so much better getting out of the house and breathing in fresh air!

Hope you're all doing well ladies xx

31TTC · 09/02/2021 12:37

Hey ladies,

I’m currently taking Pregnacare Conception. A friend recommended it rather than fussing with all diff vitamins! X

xTinkerbell · 14/02/2021 08:44

Has anyone had shorter cycles after stopping?

I’ve had a 25 & 22 day cycle. I know still within normal but 22 days is still pretty short and I’m worried if it keeps creeping earlier

PositiveParrot · 14/02/2021 08:58

How is everyone?
I’ve just got my first AF! 28 days after stopping cerelle.
It’s heavy and it hurts, but it’s here! 😂🙌 xx

LilyRose202 · 14/02/2021 09:34

Good morning!

@31TTC Thanks, I ordered these and giving them a bash. So far so good 😁. These will keep me going for another 3 months 👍

@xTinkerbell Not sure yet I'm afraid. Have you got an app to track it? How many days of high fertility have you got?

@PositiveParrot Yay! Delighted for you. I know that exact feeling. In agony, feeling a bit sick and sore bit so happy at the same time 🤣. It's a weird one. And by tomorrow your libido will be through the roof, just wait 😂

Got some good news myself...I have been using my clear blue ovulation tests a few times this week. Finally today it said high fertility 😁👍. That's exactly 14 days since the start of last AF so I'm really pleased so far. I still don't fully understand all of this but, baby steps 🙈 no pun intended!
It's a slow process but we're getting there ladies 💕 xxx

BmC55x · 14/02/2021 10:11

Hi everyone.
So stopped cerelle on the 11th of january still no AF.I did have some mild pain on my right side a couple of days ago which could maybe have been ovulation-fingers crossed!
Will have to wait and see if AF turns up in around two weeks I guess.
Didnt TTC as partner was away this time.x

xTinkerbell · 14/02/2021 10:23

@LilyRose202 tracking on an app but because my cycles have been varying length my high fertility days keep changing. Based on OPK’s last month my period came 10/11 days after ovulation which ties in with my app. I’m chucking the OPK’s away though cause they just give me extra stress. This is now cycle 3 since coming off cerelle so just going to see how this cycle/the next go and hope my body regulates.
