Positive test...whilst on period? Wtf?

Hi everyone,

My period was nearly ten days late. I took morning after pill about three weeks ago as partner and I had a problem with condom and too much lube tmi. I took the MAP 41 hours later. We feel we aren't ready for a baby as yet.

I took a test about 6 days ago as period was late and it was negative.
Anyway period came three days ago but it's much lighter than usual. I usually have periods like clockwork that are heavy and have to wear super plus tampons for days. This time I've only needed pads!!

So today I just felt something was weird especially with how I'm feeling. Weird cramps, feeling sick and just odd. Took a test as I read in the levonelle (map) leaflet you could still be pregnant even with a light period.
I am in shock as it's come up positive. How is that even possible during a period?

I am going to buy more today and retest. If I am pregnant it will be a lovely surprise but also a shock.

Anyone had experience of this?

Hi, this must be a very stressful time for you. Could it be that what you're experiencing isn't a period and in fact implantation bleeding? I would advise that you go to GP and have them test just to be on safe side and to put your mind at rest. Pregnancy Tests don't usually lie as the pregnancy HCG hormone has to be present to give a positive result. You never know it could have just been a really dodgy test, you could take another first thing in the morning when your urine is the strongest. Good luck and remember sometimes things happen for a reason and it's never the best time. What ever happens you'll get through it.

Bamboogie86 · 22/09/2017 13:22

@surferbel thank you for your kind response.
I would have imagined implantation bleeding to be a lot lighter. This does seem like a period. Different than my normal period however.

41 hours is quite late to take the map. The closer you take it to sex the more effective it is. I'd go to the docs so they can check your hcg levels with a blood test.

Surferbel · 22/09/2017 13:28

You are welcome Bamboogie86. I do know in some instances some women can get heavier implantation bleeding than others. Or sometimes periods can be delayed due to different factors whether it be stress or hormones even when it's never been the case before . This can happen to most women at least once in their lifetime. Maybe because it was delayed that is why it is now a little different to normal for you. Another test will put your mind at rest and maybe GP from there if necessary. God us women have a hard time of it don't we, it's okay for the men lol!! I hope you get sorted out soon and what ever happens things will work out in the end and you'll not look back 👍🏼

Bamboogie86 · 22/09/2017 13:32

@gottogetmyfingerout I know, we decided in the 11th hour basically to get it as we didn't feel ready.

@surferbel thank you. You're right. Men never have to go through this lol. I am away to get more tests now and will update. Thank you again

You are welcome, good luck 🍀

Hi op - I had a "weird" period like this once - very light (relatively) and lasted about 3 days instead of 5....
She turns one in a couple of weeks!

Afaik you can't get false positives.

Congratulations!

Bamboogie86 · 22/09/2017 14:03

@milleniumhandandprawn this made me laugh. Bless and congrats. That's what I thought too that it doesn't change colour without hcg.

Hi op, just to clarify u can get false positives but doesn't mean I've had one, test again and see what it says, good luck
(Which brand of test did u use?)

Bamboogie86 · 22/09/2017 17:41

@4thtime it was asda own brand x

I'd recommend a digital OP. From what you've said it should be the right time for it to be able to pick up an accurate result

sazzle3 · 22/09/2017 18:00

Are your periods normally late ? I'd take another with fmu and see what it says.
I'm always on time every month for AF and this month I was 5 days late then af arrived but it's still really light where I'm always heavy( my periods are always heavy and I go through 3+ boxes of super plus Tampax). I'm never late ever and thought I might have been pregnant I hit really sore boobs (still have) and was feeling really sick:

You will have to keep us updated:

4thtime · 22/09/2017 18:03

Stay well away from asdas tests! This is where I got my false positive, if u google it u will see they are renowned for it, try doing a first response

Positive test...whilst on period? Wtf?
AlwaysDancing1234 · 22/09/2017 18:06

Try a first response test, they are expensive but usually more reliable and easier to read if I remember correctly.
I had a quite heavy implantation bleed with my DC, almost the same as a period so it's possible.
Hope you get the result you want

Bamboogie86 · 22/09/2017 18:16

@Sazzle3 my periods are exactly the same so I hear ya. My periods are NEVER late, always very predictable and the same flow etc. Usually have the clots the lot (sorry of tmi). This time I don't which is weird and have only needed pads.

I'll do first morning urine tomorrow and let you all know. Thanks everyone always appreciate your answers on here x

I had a period same as usual the first month into my second pregnancy-didn't suspect a thing but apparently it happens. Good luck!

Babayaggatheboneylegged · 22/09/2017 18:59

When I was trying for baby no.2 I came off the pill and then had bleeding that I assumed was a period. Had had implantation bleeding with my first, but it was very light.
Thought, 'oh well,' and proceeded

Babayaggatheboneylegged · 22/09/2017 19:02

Sorry, posted too soon!
Proceeded to make the most of NOT being pregnant - couple of big nights out.
Discovered at the '12 week' scan that it must have been implantation bleeding.
It can be heavier than you'd imagine!

tamepanda · 22/09/2017 19:17

I had one of those weird lighter periods in April 2015, then two normal ones and then no period in July, took a test - positive then went for an early scan in August andddddd I was 19 weeks and 1 day!! 😱😱😱
She'll be two in January and her siblings will be making an appearance next month!

sazzle3 · 22/09/2017 19:31

@Bamboogie86 yeh my periods are like that with clots but this one isn't it's not heavy but it's not light it's just in between. It don't feel like a proper period at all xx

FairyHedgehogg · 22/09/2017 19:36

I had a 'period' when I was TTC - quite light but went on for about ten days. Thought I definitely wasn't pregnant and as I was on holiday drank quite a bit of wine and went on loads of rollercosters. About a week later I started to have nausea and indigestion... and a strongly positive pregnancy test.

When I went for the 12 week scan it turned out I was 15 and a half weeks - basically a cycle more pregnant than I thought. She's just turned one!

sazzle3 · 22/09/2017 19:38

@Bamboogie86 my boobs are still very sore aswell 😢 xx

Bamboogie86 · 22/09/2017 19:39

Thanks everyone. I feel like I WANT to be pregnant now haha. I prob sound mad.

@tamepanda that's so cute, congrats.
