Hi all

This is my first post. Just looking for a little advice. Me and DH have 2 girls and we aren't planning anymore. I came off my pill in march due to migraines and we've been using condoms since. Last night we had a bit of an accident. We were using a condom and after we finished we realised it had come off inside me. I took it out but the semen was everywhere ( so sorry for the tmi). According to my Flo app I was, at the time, 5 days from ovulation and a low chance of getting pregnant so we decided I wouldn't get the morning after pill and we would 'risk' it (if a pregnancy occurred it wouldn't be unwanted just a surprise). Has anyone ever actually conceived 5 days before ovulation? I'm also concerned slightly as since I came off my pill I've been a little all over by place (period a week early, then the next a day late, then a day early etc) so I'm not sure how realiable my ovulation dates are. What are the chances?! Hmm

Thanks xx

There is some chance. It's a bit closer than I'd be comfortable with (says me sitting here 10 wks pregnant after using the pull out method despite wanting no more kids).

thank you for your reply! Xx

If you are actually 5 days from ovulation I would say it's possible but unlikely.

MissBax · 25/06/2017 21:35

You could still get the morning after pill upto 72 hours after, and the coil later than that.

YoureNotASausage · 25/06/2017 21:36

No, she was on day 3 of her cycle right? Last Sat 17th had sex after period starting on the 14th.

Pretty safe I think. Lots of people use natural family planning quite successfully and wouldn't think twice about sex on CD 3.

YoureNotASausage · 25/06/2017 21:37

Sorry! Wrong thread, same issue!

user1498418402 · 25/06/2017 21:41

Don't worry! Sounds like the same issue. My period started sat 17th and only lasted 2 days (?) and we had the unprotected sex sat 24th xx

So CD7. Pretty much considered just within the safe zone for people successfully using natural family planning. Think you'll be ok.

supermum87 · 26/06/2017 21:00

This was me last month & I didn't fall pregnant. I got pregnant first time with my other two children so I think it's pretty safe Smile

thank you for your replies. I'm hoping we haven't been caught out but if we have I'll be happy. I've felt really funny past few days, probably all in my head. I've felt nauseous and really headachey, and last night and this morning I'm getting cramps like I'm about to come on. Although I'm sure I'm just over analysing things now. Possibly ovulation pains but normally when I ovulate I get ewcm and I'm not? Only time will tell I suppose Smile xx

I got pregnant from sex five days before ovulation (ended in miscarriage). I was shocked (we were trying to have some time out after the miscarriage before that...) because it took us seven months of perfectly timed sex before I fell the first time. I'm not trying to panic you, but you do never know!

user1498418402 · 27/06/2017 12:15

Thanks for the reply. I'm so sorry for your losses.
If you don't mind me asking how long did you wait to test and did you have any symptoms that made you test? Xx

OP posts:
NotMyPenguin · 27/06/2017 12:32

The problem is that you don't REALLY know when you ovulated, or will ovulate, because your cycles vary. So it might only have been 3 days before ovulation, if you see what I mean (if you'd be tracking religiously using TCOYF methods like temperature and cervical fluid you could be more certain).

It's great that you'll be relatively happy either way!

If you do decide that it isn't the right time to risk another pregnancy, you could always investigate the emergency coil. This can be put in up to 5 days post unprotected sex and is extremely effective at preventing pregnancy.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 27/06/2017 12:53

Thank you. I did start getting symptoms (sore breasts) so took a test quite early (11dpo, I think), telling myself I'd just double-check and then I wouldn't have to think about the possibility any more... You can't possibly have symptoms yet, though - firstly, no one gets symptoms until post-implantation (no matter what some women claim) but secondly if you're right about the timing then all that can possibly be happening inside you now is that there's some sperm in you that may or (much more likely) may not make it until Wednesday, when you actually ovulate!

user1498418402 · 27/06/2017 14:24

NotMyPenguin, that was my worry - I'm basing ovulation on my app which as you say could be wrong. Anyway we've both decided if this ends in a pregnancy we'll be happy! I'll keep you posted in a few weeks when af does or doesn't arrive! Hmm xx

Hi all, do any of you use the app Flo? It's what I've been using since I came off my pill and I think it updates depending on what you put on it. Anyway I went on today to note some cramps and nausea I've been having and for some reason it's changed my ovulation date - brought it forward a day? Which means the 'accident' was now in my fw?
Should I be taking this app with a pinch of salt so to speak? X

OP posts:
NotMyPenguin · 29/06/2017 22:46

No, but unless you are taking your temperature every day and monitoring cervical fluid then I really don't think it can be more than guesswork.

Clearly it isn't very reliable if it is changing what it thought was your ovulation date after the fact! I REALLY wouldn't relying on this app for anything.

The great thing about taking your temperature is that you can confirm for sure (unless you are ill and have a fever) that you have ovulated, by seeing a sustained temperature rise over a few days. Do read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler if you're interested in how it all works; I found it massively empowering to have a better idea of what was going on with my body.

Kat2017 · 01/05/2018 23:29

Any update? Going through similar situation x

gingergenius · 01/05/2018 23:59

My 'surprise' baby was conceived 5 days before ovulation. But that month I ovulated early! Wouldn't change her for the world even though I'm not with her dad any more!

SecretStash · 02/05/2018 06:22

I’m currently pregnant and we had sex 7 days before AF. In fact it was on the last day of my period.
I too did not think I could get pregnant and I too had a contraception failure similar to yours.
Yet here I am. Pregnant.

SecretStash · 02/05/2018 06:22

Oh. Zombie thread.

Kat2017 · 02/05/2018 11:17

Thanks- I know it’s an old thread but I always read them and wonder what happened. Really helpful to know when you’re going through similar things as it’s like you can fast forward. Thanks ladies

Blessings98 · 05/12/2019 07:48

First post
I had sex couple days after my period and 5 days before ovulation I have been having mood swings hot flashes cravings nauseous and vomiting sore ribs cramping and discharge I was wanting second opinions about the situation every pregnant person has told me I'm pregnant but it's to early to take a test the baby father told me I was pregnant and I had a dream that a test came out positive this would make my first child if I'm pregnant

Bessieart · 05/02/2020 10:39

I have just found out I’m unexpectedly pregnant with 3rd baby and we use the rhythm method and got caught out by ovulating early... we had unprotected sex 5 days before I got EWCM so yes it’s possible!

Sonia90124 · 15/03/2021 16:22

Hi same thing happened with me. We had sex just once about 5/6 days ago before I got peak on Clearblue ovulation kit. Ended up being pregnant with 3rd baby. Bessieart - what did you have, boy or girl?
