Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

We've been going a while now so the novelty has worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Key:
HS - have/had sex
GOS - good old shag
ELH - enthusiastic lavatory happenings
LSFX - legs spread, fingers crossed

Otters - they can confirm ovulation with a blood test. That's what I'm having this Friday as it's my first cycle of Clomid.

florafoxtrot · 15/05/2017 19:18

I would definitely recommend temping Otter - it's totally time consuming and fiddly but it does show ovulation when if and when it occurs. Think I'm 1dpo (urgh) as had a static smiley on Sat, my boobs hurt when I was wandering through Tesco and I hate the world so pretty sure fire signs - although my bloody temperature wasn't evelated this morning! Currently just focusing on the tests for me in a weeks time and in a fortnight for DH.

AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 19:22

Otters glad you've bought some ic for this cycle! It's very common for CBD opks to miss your surge as many women surge in the late afternoon/evening so testing every morning with a CBD is no good. Imo they're a huge waste of money and they never worked for me; luckily I tested with an ic in the afternoon and got a positive (only used them for 2 cycles, never got a Peak reading). Fx the cheapies turn positive for you this cycle, temping will shed some light too. If you need any temping advice just ask here.

Well, if they don't offer you another scan I would book a private scan somewhere around CD24 to check for a visible corpus luteum, that way you'll have a definitive answer about whether you O'd or not, and won't be questioning your blood results. Are you getting treatment on the NHS? You should 100% ask for a trigger shot (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin - hCG) to give your follicles a helping hand to pop if you actually aren't O'ing on your own. I seriously don't know why they haven't offered you this before now - I have so many American 'friends' on FF and the trigger shot is handed out to them just so they can time sex better on a medicated cycle even if they O on their own. For you this could really make all the difference!

As for me, I'm CD10 and expecting to O this week/weekend. I'm self medicating with Femara because I've had ovulation and luteal phase problems which has made my ttc journey very long, with some losses along the way. Just biding my time before going private if I don't fall pregnant again. And I agree, this thread is awesome! Grin

AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 19:29

Flora I read somewhere that for your temp to be elevated you have to have O'd 12+ hours before taking your temp in the morning. You could well have O'd late last night / early morning today but you won't see a rise until tomorrow morning. A rise 2 days after your peak is very common so hang in there! Agree temping is amazing but I honestly don't find it time consuming at all, it's just 30 seconds in the morning and then mark your chart. It's certainly easier than peeing in pots, withholding fluids and doing multiple opks at work / wherever. I do both though as opks give you a warning (have sex!), temping gives you confirmation 👍

AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 19:31

3 days after*

LisaSimpsonsbff · 15/05/2017 19:32

I've only been temping the last three cycles, but I also really like it. I use ClearBlue OPKs, but they do seem to work for me - I have thought about switching to the cheap ones because of the cost, but the logistics of taking the tests in the afternoon really put me off.

AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 19:42

Lisa you could buy some cheapies (m.ebay.co.uk/itm/141249917348) and use them alongside your CBD in the morning and see if they work too (as you must surge in the morning?) and then you could switch to cheapies if so. Yay another temp lover! I'm starting temping again tomorrow (CD11), I don't do a full cycle anymore as there's no need.

florafoxtrot · 15/05/2017 20:02

Yeah Alexia I think time consuming was the wrong phrase?! Maybe I meant tedious, hell knows! Been a long day! Thanks so much for that info. on temps though! I had been wondering that Grin

Hahahaha Jam sometimes you just need someone to normalise your crazy behaviour. And I am that person to most crazy people... Really need to get my head in the game for work tmrw though, big presentation at 8am. Sakes.

sk1pper · 15/05/2017 21:06

I'll be 1dpo tomorrow if my aching eggs are anything to go by. Bring the hype!

Pugmummy87 · 15/05/2017 21:38

Just catching up, sorry if I miss anyone.

Congratulations eva! Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months.

pyjamas really pleased to hear your appointment went well and the ball is rolling for IVF. Have fun with your bed time reading!

Welcome otters, sorry you have had a tough journey so far, I think the majority of us on here are long term ttc now Sad. Hope you get some answers soon.

flash sorry you are bleeding/AF has started. When are you seeing the doctor again?

jam, flora I often feel grumpy/irritable around ovulation. Never feel horny like you are apparently supposed to! Maybe Clomid might sort me out lol.

Speaking of which, I keep getting hot flushes and feeling sweaty. I know this is a common side effect so hopefully this means it's doing what it should be.

Talking of baby bombs, my aunt has just posted a picture of my cousin's 20 week scan. FFs that is 3 cousin's and my best mate who have had/having 6 babies between them in the time we've been ttc. Why aren't I blessed with the fertile gene!

The talk of pregnant women moaning about pregnancy did make me laugh, I have to deal with that on a daily basis in a professional capacity lol. Thankfully I manage to find it relatively easy to keep the two separate, it's my family and friends that upsets me.

otters2017 · 15/05/2017 21:41

alexia sorry to hear about your losses Flowers I'm with the NHS at the moment but am willing to go private if we need to. Thanks for the info about the trigger shot, will definitely ask. Am wondering why it's not been mentioned before.
I'm new to temping so any tips are more than welcome.

I'm on pregnacare, daily pomegranate juice and using conceive plus lube. Also temping, opks with IC and CB and getting a d21 blood test.
Any other suggestions?

harrietm87 · 15/05/2017 21:45

Congrats eva!!!!

And well done pyjamas - it's great feeling like you've taken a step in the right direction isn't it? And 6 weeks is no time at all - exciting!

Will do a proper catch up later!

AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 22:22

Otters I can only think it's because it's not in their budget or something? I know they use it for IUI cycles so they can time the procedure correctly. Sounds like you're doing a lot of great things... Harriet's specialist recommended vitamin d (75mcg) and baby aspirin (75mg). I take them daily, except no aspirin during AF. Grapefruit juice is good for CM. Omega 3/flaxseed is a vital supp too.

As for temping: use a BBT thermometer, set a daily alarm to temp at the same time each morning after 3+ hours solid sleep, use Fertility Friend to chart your temps, don't stress and you should sleep better Smile (temp anxiety is a real thing!)

Pug I know how hard that must be especially knowing you should be in a similar position right now. Hugs Flowers Fx for your Clomid Cycle! Xx

No worries Flora Grin Good luck for tomorrow.

Flashinthepan · 15/05/2017 22:31

Thanks for the love ladies. I have no follow up with the gynae. But I will go back to the GP if I don't see a change in cycle.

DH doesn't seem keen to have any investigations until October, which is when the gynae has recommended we be referred to the fertility clinic if we've had no luck.

I think he thinks that it will happen naturally and isn't worried it hasn't happened yet, whereas I think trying could be a waste of time if, for example, my remaining tube is blocked.

FX you caught the egg skipper.

My boobs still hurt so I think it's heavy breakthrough bleeding, poss from cutting down to 1 tab instead of two, rather then af. Expecting af on Thursday or Friday.

FXLS for you alexia and anyone else heading into FW.

Have we got any testers coming up/anyone who plans to test because they can't wait?

Londonjam · 15/05/2017 22:35

Good luck tomorrow flora!

Waves pug harriet good to see you both

Any word from Paige missy unicorn binky gaelach?

OP posts:
AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 22:39

Thanks Flash. I'd probably want to be seen after next cycle if the bleeding g continued, only because I know I couldn't handle seeing that every lp.

Jam I saw Unicorn got her bfp when I was stalking another thread. Not sure about the other girls though.

AlexiaB · 15/05/2017 22:41

Otters thought I'd post this for you since I've literally just seen it on Fertility Friend. It's pretty relevant to what we were discussing re. progesterone levels.

otters2017 · 16/05/2017 07:24

alexia thanks. I thought I understood it but there's so many variations and there will always be one story that you can find that beat the odds. It clearly didn't work for me as I didn't get my BFP but on to a new cycle now.
Do you take your temp at the same time everyday? I thought it was just when you first wake up so my data will be inaccurate this cycle! It's fairly constant so far. So you're looking for a rise after ovulation?

How's everyone doing? Happy Tuesday all Smile

Jeds55 · 16/05/2017 07:29

Morning all, I've also just bought thermometer to start temping, although forgot this morning! Am on CD 4 now, should I start tmrw or wait for new cycle? Don't suppose it matters really.
Will catch up properly later, late!

Jeds55 · 16/05/2017 07:38

Good luck for presentation Flora, at least it's early so not too much time for the nerves to build!
Sorry for all the baby bombs. My best friend has told me they are going to start in July, happy for them but don't know how I'll react if they fall quickly! She's even said to me that she'd feel really guilty Blush

Binkybunny13 · 16/05/2017 08:10

Hi guys, sorry I fell off the thread with some family issues..hopefully settled now and I can get back on it- it goes so quickly!

Firstly, sorry Harriet / pug with my mixed up last message- I had accidentally deleted a section and then put it back together wrongly. Very very sorry for putting out the wrong information for you both

Next, wohooooooo Eva! Massive congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Jam glad it went ok and FX for a cheeky BFP now!🤞I did the same with bloody cara yesterday- wtaf?!

Kathrino hope you find the therapy helpful- it sounds like you've got more than "just" the TTC shit to deal with at the mo which must be so hard 💐

Sorry the progesterone has made things weird flash

Lots of 🍷🍫☕️&❤️ to those who the bitch got

Sorry about the secondment pug 💐

Skipper glad the arm is doing ok and the seats and cake is sorted- what a result! 🍰🎉

Where did you have your appointment out of interest Harriet?

Thinking of you rainbow 💐

pyjamas Glad you have a plan- and that seems pretty fast. Massive fx for you 🤞Sorry you hate your job at the mo- it's such a pain when your heart isn't in it, but hopefully ivf will be smothering to focus on for now, then you'll be preggers!

Hi new people 👋👋 and sorry anyone I've missed off in my mammoth catch up!

Sodding AF arrived for me so I'm now due 13th, cycle 11. Have had 2 shorter cycles in a row (30 and 29days) but with heavier flow than is normal for me (usually quite light) so not sure if that's a positive thing in view of my PCOS? Started my fertilitea today and will try temping as of tomo (first go), plus DH SA in the morning too. Come on Lady Luck!

Londonjam · 16/05/2017 08:25

Sorry af got you binky and to hear you've had other problems to deal with, hope you're doing okay. 29 and 30 days are both lovely normal cycle lengths, I'd definitely take that as a good sign. Temping seems to make perfect sense now you're getting into a pattern, so hopefully you'll be able to see you are actually ovulating. Good luck with the SA also.

harrietm87 · 16/05/2017 09:48

Hi binky sorry about AF but agree with Jam - good news on the cycle lengths. I've been to see Dr Shehata at the Centre for Reproductive Immunology and Pregnancy (aka the miscarriage clinic) - found him here on mumsnet actually. Hope he can help me!

Btw the escape game thing I did was really fun! Quite expensive for just an hour but we loved it. Will definitely do more.

jeds really sympathise with baby bomb fear. One of my colleagues is trying and I just don't want to know!
