Getting Ready For Baby Challenge - Thread 7

We are a bunch of ladies who are either

• humping (TTC)
• by humping yet (waiting to TTC)
• humped (BFP)

And everything in between!

We've had 8 BFPs since January (and counting!) and we love a bit of lucky lube and a squinter on 9DPO - come and join the madness!

Hmm well it's now 25 mins past the appointment time and no sign of any midwife??? I tried calling them - nothing. I had a missed call from an unknown number around 10:15. Fed up!

Oh no grumpy!!! I'm so gutted for you! I'd be fuming! At least you have a sparkling clean flat!

How did you get on Grumpy?!

She was really nice and had just run late with the previous lady. She runs a team of 3 midwives that do all the home births in this area. They also do a monthly tea party with mothers planning a home birth! They are going to visit me again at 16wks.

She couldn't take my blood as veins were not cooperating! So I'll get all the tests done with the other blood tests at 19 weeks. But overall v straightforward & booked in as low risk pregnancy with midwife care.

She was so relaxed and told me to expect a faster birth this time! She said to call them straight away if waters break or contractions are every 5mins as given my fast first birth (4hrs from waters + first pains to baby) she expects it to progress very quickly. She mentioned 2 hours as likely?!! Im not sure though as it's been so long since last time...
I'm going to look into hiring a birth pool (less messy I think!).

Got a ton of freebies (mostly coupons and catalogues and vitamins) and my maternity notes folder already which is exciting!

Oh and she said I need to keep it in till 37wks in order to keep it as a home birth but that she didn't expect me to deliver so early twice. And that she recently delivered a lady at 36wks at home as the lady didn't want to go to hospital.

And not to worry about my building site flat as she has delivered babies in houses with just a plastic sheet roof when people's loft conversions ran over 😂

I was gonna ask about the home birth pool! Are they expensive to hire? The tea party sounds amazing!!

Sounds like it went really well grumpy! Great that you're low risk and that she's predicting a quick birth. That car seat is lovely as well although well outside of my price range

Haha otters only on a conception board would it be deemed acceptable to have a humping buddy! I think I'll take the advice of the ladies here and now switch to EOD after tonight. I wish I could temp but it wouldn't work with the shifts I do, so even with OPKs ov is still a guessing game.

Buzz I've no idea, I'll have to look into how much they cost to hire. Apparently there is a local group that lends them out.
Ahh those are very cute! Are they sleep suits?

Almost forgot - she asked me if I wanted to keep the placenta!!! My eyes nearly popped out of my head! I think I said " I might be quite hippy but I'm not THAT hippy" 😂✌🏼
No offence to anyone who does want to keep theirs! Not sure what I'd do with it!

One of my clients runs a business doing placenta encapsulation & smoothies (🤢)

& another one yesterday just told me she still has her 21 year old son's umbilical cord somewhere upstairs... like not just the belly button bit... the entire cord! 😮

God, haven't even considered car seats/buggies yet! Gonna save that for later I think!

I need some new clothes, I'm not any bigger but my body doesn't tolerate jeans right now, only leggings, & most of my bottoms are skinny jeans! I was gonna hold off for maternity clothes but was reading a thread on pregnancy and most people didn't get bumps til 20+ weeks with their first. Might have to get some interim clothes in the meantime, thats ages away!

The only thing that I've considered in that regard is that I'd like to donate the cord blood if at all possible. I think my local hospital works with Anthony Nolan, so hoping it will be an option for me.

On my old pregnancy fb group, loads of people were buying maternity clothes. I think lots of them grow with you. Definitely worth being as comfortable as possible!

Sorry, obviously I don't mean any offence to anyone who does want to eat the placenta. I've never really considered that you could keep it.

grumpy really hope I ovulate tomorrow. I don't have any sticks left and will be at a friend's place tomorrow morning so i won't know for sure. Glad the midwife visit went well. Exciting for a quick home birth

Buzz I love those baby grows "hello, I'm new"...soooo cute!! Can't wait until I get a BFP and can start collecting things. I have spent many an hour on amazon and mother care looking up everything I would like for my little one. Just wish it would happen soon!!! I had a dream I had two babies last night - but they weren't twins :S One was a bit older than the other but then I woke up sad cos I wanted them so much!! haha!!

I'm having a lazy day today and decided to watch the National Geographic documentary on multiples! I'm learning so much! Did you know you can release an egg that gets fertilised, then it splits to become twins. Then a day or so later release a second egg that also gets fertilised?! There is a lady on the program which is expecting triplets but two are identical and one is fraternal!

It's such a miracle. Also we have a 1 in 64 million chance of conceiving quads.

I once babysat triplets like that wiggley. The fraternal one was totally nerdy and the identical ones were mega cool. I gave the fraternal one all the extra chocolate and he declared he would marry me one day!! ;) (he didn't, I didn't ever see him again, and he was about 6!)

Ovia just praised me for doing everything I can to conceive..... which I am, you know, except having unprotected sex! Oh well, I'll take the praise where I can get it!

What a positive meeting grumpy, so happy for you! I forgive her for being late too :) Are there particular reasons why some people are more likely to have fast labours? Interesting isn’t it.

Yay dancing bring on the regular humping. I have to confess that we haven’t DTD since I got pregnant we’ve done other things I hasten to add (he hasn’t been entirely neglected) but I really haven’t been in the mood at all for the last month. Is that usual? Poor DH.

Agree about the clothes Hb, I haven’t changed shape at all yet but seem to be spending all my time in stretchy yoga bottoms. I feel quite resentful when I have to go to work and put on proper trousers. Can’t wait for a summer of floaty maxi dresses. I found a really good website for tall pregnant women (have stupidly long inside leg measurement) and was panicking that I’d never find anything in high street shops. Will definitely start buying some things in a few months when I might start needing them.

Wiggley the twin information is incredible. Our bodies are amazing.. although not sure I could cope with triplets! I look forward to your fact of the day tomorrow

Seven not too long until you’ll be full on TTC, I love your excitement though, it’s infectious.

Confession corner… I considered getting my placenta encapsulated. When I told DH he looked like he’d slightly fallen out of love with me so I shelved the idea. I imagine it will be the last thing on my mind once the baby arrives. I did look into donating the cord but they don’t do anything that high tech in Norfolk.

Aw jupiter jokes aside, if you fancy doing it don't not! I think of all the options the encapsulation is quite far removed from actual placenta gore!! In fact, i saw on insta recently that Rochelle Humes from the Saturdays had done it and it came in such a pretty box i was almost tempted!! (I'll locate a pic!)
Also, used to DTD most days, regardless of TTC, and i have to say it's been once a week if that! I'm eagerly awaiting pregnancy horniness to kick in!!
