Long cycle / short luteal phase

Hi all,
I was just wondering whether anyone might be in the same boat as me and can offer some advice/success stories?!

My DH and I have been ttc for several months now without any success.
Unfortunately my cycles have been really irregular (ranging from 31 days to 51 days) since coming off bcp last summer.

I have tracked ovulation and I do appear to be ovulating on my own but to add a big spanner into the works, it looks as though my LP is only 9/10 days.

I can find a lot of info about short cycles with a short LP, but not so much on long cycles with short LP. Anyone able to help?

Oh @OrianaBanana you don't know how good that is to hear! So sorry for your mc but fantastic that you were able to have a successful pregnancy straight after.
Fingers crossed it happens to us soon Smile

Sorry I meant LP of 6-10 days. Don't give up hope xx

boatrace30 · 29/04/2017 21:15

Yes thanks oriana. I didn't track cycles with DD but can't help but think I probably had the same issues. Took five cycles with her. But I had bleeding throughout first trimester so I'm convinced I had low progesterone.

boatrace30 · 29/04/2017 21:16

CD20 and a slightly darker opk line so hoping it will develop tomorrow!

boatrace30 · 30/04/2017 09:50

Smile opk darker again!! Fractionally lighter than the control. Is it sad that even if my LP is short I'm excited that my cycle might be shorter so I can get on to the next one!!? Looks like I'll ovulate tomorrow or Tuesday so CD22/23. It's never been sooner than cd25 before

CatMum87 · 30/04/2017 10:12

Great news @boatrace30 Looking good for this cycle! Going back to what you said about your pregnancy with DD, when you bled throughout your first trimester...was that not very scary for you? Did you have any investigations at the time about it?

Have an AMAZING hen party @CatMum87 🍾🍸💃🏼

Yes it wasn't fun. So first I had a bleed which I assumed was my period, looking back I was about 4weeks pregnant (so when period is due), I went out that week with work and got very very drunk (as I was upset about it all and had had an awful week), I felt sick the next two days which I assumed was a hangover, when I felt sick for a third morning I thought it was a bit ridiculous so took a test and was gobsmacked that it was positive!!!
Obviously DH and I were over the moon but literally two days later I was spotting then on the third day woke up with a horrific bleed, far worse than a period. Big clots etc, saturating a pad in 20mins... (sorry tmi).
I went to GP end was referred to the early pregnancy unit. The GP would only go off my last period for dating (even though I knew that was wrong so was dates at 6-7 weeks when I was really 4-5. Anyway I had a scan and bloods and they said I had probably miscarried. Went back two days later for more bloods and my hcg had risen, so a further scan a week later showed a heartbeat and all fine!!! I continued to bleed on and off until I was 10weeks. A very anxious time!!
But she is now nearly two!
The worst thing about it all is I can never quite convince myself I'm not pregnant even after bleeding!

boatrace30 · 30/04/2017 13:34

But... no cause was ever mentioned other than they could see the remnants of a clot on the scan, basically it was chance that the egg implanted on the other side of my womb to wear the clot was!
I didn't really have awareness of progesterone issues then to ask.

OrianaBanana · 30/04/2017 13:39

I had a light bleed for a time around the time of my period too, also POAS and it was a BFN so I assumed that was it. It was only when I threw up the week after that I reconsidered, and true enough that time it was a BFP x

Bows85 · 01/05/2017 13:13

Oh, that must have been terrifying @boatrace30 So pleased it all worked out for you.

That must have been quite a shock @OrianaBanana But meant your pregnancy went by a week quicker!

Bows85 · 03/05/2017 06:17

Myo inositol can really help with a short LP. You have to make sure its the myo one as there are other types. I recommended it to a friend in your situation and it worked very quickly for her. Oh and I also bled throughout the first trimester with my first dc, and spotted with my second too. No one ever knew why.

boatrace30 · 03/05/2017 07:49

I'm good Bows. My app tells me I am 3DPO but I am not convinced and think I'm 1dpo as I was still getting positive opks on Monday.
Time will tell I guess

boatrace30 · 03/05/2017 07:51

Thanks thethicken. I'll look into it.

CatMum87 · 03/05/2017 10:44

Hi Ladies! Hope you all enjoyed the bank holiday. Uh it was hard going back to work yesterday- had a great time on my hen do though. We went on the segways, had a nice meal/drinks and then went to chester zoo the next day lol! They had all clubbed together and adopted a giraffe in my soon to be name which was lovely but also meant that they made me walk around in a giraffe onesie complete with tiara....one little kid called me the giraffe princess haha!!

Any how i kept thinking AF was coming over the two days but she managed to stay away until yesterday. Now full on, which means my lp was 9 days this time with 2 days of spotting. Confusingly my resting heart rate keeps going up but i think i should just ignore that!

So this cycle was short cycle, short luteal phase- oh how i wish it would just sort itself out!

Thanks thechicken, i shall also look into that, get my researching hat on.

Oh boatrace your first pregnancy sounds like it was very scary :( I had a quick look online and didn't realise how common bleeding during pregnancy is. Here's to the next one being a much smoother ride :)

boatrace30 · 04/05/2017 20:52

Either 2 or 4dpo and I'm going to stop temping! Trying to be really chilled out this month.

catmum at least cycle was shorter and you can get on to the next one. Glad you had a good hen party. When is your wedding?

bows appointment soon?

boatrace30 · 05/05/2017 19:53

So I'm strictly avoiding booze on the basis it can lower progesterone but how much do I want a glass of wine tonight.... In lovely solidarity with me DH just opened a bottle!! WineSad

hopingforabfp · 06/05/2017 17:20

Hi all, I bought the clear blue dual hormone OPKs today. When is it that I should start testing on a 35 day cycle would you say? I usually ovulate around day 25. Xx

boatrace30 · 06/05/2017 21:41

How many in a packet? I use cheap internet ones and start around cd12 though ovulate anytime from 23-30! I live in hope of an earlier ovulation!
