Thread 24. TTC #1 - It's been a tough start to the year but 2017 is still the year of the BFP

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

It's not been the best start of the year for most but we're still trying to keep it PMA Star

We've been going a while now so the novelty has somewhat worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We've ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar, and we don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

We have a new Grad's Thread. We recently lost a whole load of ttc veterans to the good side and we're absolutely desperate to join in the fun! May 2017 lead us all to upduffed heaven and the Grad's thread, amen.

We don't have rules as such but expect to be talked down from the ledge with kind but firm words if you get too hysterical. But most importantly, don't convince yourself that you're pregnant in the tww. That is paramount!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Sorry FX I wasn't worrying it would happen, just that people were shocked that fallopian tubes weren't connected to ovaries, and I said that that's how non-tubal ectopics occurred because very rarely the process doesn't work as it should!

I totally agree, if you worried about everything that went wrong you'd never get out of bed!

harrietm87 · 17/01/2017 12:47

Wow lots of chat team!
My mind is BLOWN by the ovaries not connected. Wtf biology? What is the reason for that?!

skipper so sorry, you've had such a tough time. Feel better soon and don't leave us!
jam it's a shame about FW but really good that you've properly had it out with your DP. In the age of equality (supposedly!) it's easy to forget how different men are from women. I really think they just can't understand this process. My DH has asked me not to tell him anything about opks or FW and we're going to try DTD every other day so he doesn't know when it's FW. It's fine but also annoying!

In other news we put our flat on the market today. Tough call as we really love it but it's a small one bed and we think more likely to get bigger mortgage if no dependents so going for something bigger (and not as nice and in a grim location...). It will be bittersweet, especially if we move for nothing.

Poppet8583 · 17/01/2017 13:01

Hi all, just wanted to check in to this new thread if that's ok? I joined the previous one as a newbie, stats below...

Poppet

Age 31 (DH 33)
TTC #1
Cycle 3
CD 8 (AF finished on Sunday so we can start again!)

Trying not to think about it too much this month as last cycle I think I convinced myself I had symptoms and I clearly didn't! Even though we haven't been trying long, I was really upset (and surprised at how obsessed I got so quickly). So I've decided I'm not buying any tests unless I miss AF so I'm not tempted to test early and I'm not going to rely on Ovia to tell me when my fertile window is - just going to go with it and DTD as often as possible throughout the month.

Just reading through the thread, so sorry to hear that some of you are having a really tough time (not just TTC but in other areas too). Really hope things get better for everyone going through difficulties x

Flashinthepan · 17/01/2017 13:02

Ooo Harriet exciting times. Even though I love our house and we only finished all the work on it in October, I can't help but look at the next move. I'm definitely into house porn

Kathrino · 17/01/2017 13:16

We've been going back and forth re a similar decision harriet - ultimately we've decided to stay put for now and make the space work for us partly because of all the uncertainty around Brexit. I'm not sure if it's really the right decision though and you make a good point re mortgages/dependents. Ugh, why is being a grown up so complicated?

Glad to hear all is going well with you Skip, it's always lovely to see one of our grads. Excellent bonus facts too. I skipped my yoga workout this morning but I am inspired to hit the mat tonight.

FX for you Presh, looking food so far!

kwick, hoping that the next week flies for you. Keep chanting!

harrietm87 · 17/01/2017 13:24

kathrino are you in London and do you already have a place? I think if we were first time buyers we would hold out, but since mortgage rates are low and deals are good, and as we're selling and buying into the same market we thought worth doing. Interested to hear other arguments though as we're not 100%!

Kathrino · 17/01/2017 13:42

harriet, yes and yes!

We've spoken to quite a few estate agents and a couple have said that if it's a really horrible market at the moment and if there's no pressing need to move then we shouldn't right now. Our place has fallen in value in the last year but then so have the places we're looking at too so, from that perspective, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference although there are a number of vendors who seem to be ignoring that and refusing the lower their prices. Quite a few places have been on the market for months which is fairly unusual where we are (Maida Vale / St John's Wood). Like you though, we also really love where we live now and anywhere we moved to would probably seem like a compromise which makes it that much harder to justify all the costs/effort of moving. If we saw somewhere we absolutely loved and a once in a lifetime opportunity, we would probably move but we haven't seen anything like that yet.

We're probably going to look again this time next year so we are gambling that interest rates will stay at a similar level. It's tough though and we may be regretting our decision this time next year.

Flashinthepan · 17/01/2017 13:45

Harriet we're planning to sell after we've had a baby/sometime next year even if we haven't had a baby as we currently have 2 bed house, but our nearest family is almost 2 hours away and it's hard accommodating siblings, their partners, parents etc and means we are always travelling to visit them. We're in south west London/Surrey and we have gone back and forth so many times over whether to sell or stay put etc. Its never an easy decision is it!

As you say Kathrino trying to make all the right decisions taking into account future changes that may or may not happen is horrible and grown up!

Londonjam · 17/01/2017 14:06

Kwick you have an excellent egg sac that is getting ready to show you it's fabulous chick 👍🏼

Fx presh!

Thanks for bonus facts fxskip especially yoga related! How do you know so much??? Glad it's all going well.

Harriet fw is only just beginning so we have plenty of time to catch egg - although unlikely on track record - he is on best behaviour right now so things are looking up. Exciting news re your house!

We are first time buyers going through our first purchase now Confused we've saved for years to get onto the market and now it doesn't feel the best time - agreed kath - but as someone reminded me even if the market wobbles it always goes back up.. it's just impossible to know when is the best time! We are just going for it and hoping for the best. If prices keep going up like they have it could get harder.

Poppet you are so welcome, the more the merrier

harrietm87 · 17/01/2017 14:19

Yes jam that's our fear - by moving (a lot) further out we could upgrade from flat to house. Where we live now has totally peaked pricewise whereas we're looking at an "up and coming" (= dodgy) area that is way cheaper (relatively speaking...). I worry that if we wait the up and coming area will move out of our price range, even with brexit etc. Who knows. So complicated. We got the flat all tidy for the pictures and realised how we love it! At least slightly taking mind off ttc!

Kathrino · 17/01/2017 15:10

Yeah, I think for FTB in particular, it's not really a bad time to buy especially with interest rates so low. I can't believe that the London market is going to go down (and stay down) hugely and I think now that they are so much tighter on the affordability checks and there are hardly any (if any?) 100% mortgages out there, that the risk of ending up in negative equity is pretty low.

Londonjam · 17/01/2017 15:12

It's such a hard decision to make. Did you say you were in London too? Moving to up and coming areas has paid off massively for many of our friends. In a way it might be a good time to buy as the market has been held back a bit since the EU referendum , when they could have kept escalating. No doubt triggering Article 50 will continue the unsettled market but hopefully as the process goes on confidence will remain/return in property.

I sound like bloody Jeremy paxman. Makes a nice change from TTC! 😂

harrietm87 · 17/01/2017 15:51

Yes in London. Currently trendy East and looking at grimy East!

FXSkip · 17/01/2017 17:13

Ha ha jam I'm an obsessive fact finder by nature so that combined with ttc is a nightmare combo!

kwick · 17/01/2017 18:39

I chew gum loudly peaches

presh LSFX for you!!! Looks promising!! No idea how you have willpower to wait until Friday!!!!

fxskip please may I marry you? You are a mine of information!!!

Hi all

Thanks for starting new thread Alexia:

Have been busy with work. Fertility app changed my most fertile days about 8 times didn't know if I was coming or going.
Finally ovulated on day 19 which is great news considering PCOS.
Got pos OPK at midday and in afternoon and evening for 2 days.

Not sure we've DTD enough but who knows. Now in my 2WW. Massively bloated but think it's excess Xmas weight and my penchant for eating beef hula hoops.

Fingers crossed for us all this cycle...know AF arrived for lots of you.

Finally found a wedding venue do got plenty of time to prep before summer 2028. Exciting times xx

Peachyteach · 17/01/2017 19:29

I meant 2018 - the excitement made my fingers twitch!! Grin

kwick · 17/01/2017 19:40

peachy have you tried Inofolic for your PCOS?
Hula Hoops - yummy!
Umm does this mean you are living in sin? Wink

Feeling virtuous: had homemade soup (piggywiggy bones, chicken, turnip and flageolet beans) abd salmon salad for dinner and have a carrot, sweet potato and red lentil soup cooking away now. Pulses are SO good for you - I try to have some every day (alongside eggs, avocado).

kwick · 17/01/2017 19:43

Maybe I should get this to help with space issues? Wink

Gaelach · 17/01/2017 19:58

Hi everyone! TMI but I'm lying with my hips propped up feeling very pleased with myself about my dtd timing. Dtd yesterday, positive opk today, dtd today and plan one more tomorrow. This is the first time in my 6 cycles I've managed to dtd on O-2 day, so I'm feeling good about that.

Sending positive vibes to everyone!

CarleyColie · 17/01/2017 20:03

Ooh FX for you Presh, exciting!!

Haha Peachy I was thinking you're very organised getting things in place for 2028 Grin well done on finding a wedding venue, hope your planning goes smoothly!

kwick · 17/01/2017 20:05

peachy do you watch a"Say yes to the dress"? I often watch on a Saturday morning and get amazed by people's taste and also cost of dresses!!

Pyjamas81 · 17/01/2017 20:08

That's some good dtd-ing gaelach! Fx!

DH and I (also live in London) and we also want to move to a bigger house - but, we've decided to wait a bit because if we have to go down the IVF route, it's likely to make a difference to our budget!

MouseLove · 17/01/2017 20:09

Well I'm still snooping ladies. Sorry!! hangs head in shame

I wanted to just say hey, make sure everyone was ok.

I still don't have any symptoms, today is 7+1 for me and I see my midwife next Friday. Trying not to overthink things but had a bad few weeks as I found out my close friend was miscarrying (she sadly had to have an op on Saturday) and I'm generally worrying 10x more than I was the last few months despite feeling super grateful. 😕

I wanted to let you know they did a home fertility test on Save Money: Good Health (7.30pm ITV) and it turned out a load of tosh, so they stand by the private testing.

Kwick, scan sounds good, that's normal for your blob. Hope you are doing good. X

kwick · 17/01/2017 20:16

mouse why did you abandon us???? Please stick around!!!
Really sorry to hear about your friend Flowers
