Thread 24. TTC #1 - It's been a tough start to the year but 2017 is still the year of the BFP

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

It's not been the best start of the year for most but we're still trying to keep it PMA Star

We've been going a while now so the novelty has somewhat worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We've ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar, and we don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

We have a new Grad's Thread. We recently lost a whole load of ttc veterans to the good side and we're absolutely desperate to join in the fun! May 2017 lead us all to upduffed heaven and the Grad's thread, amen.

We don't have rules as such but expect to be talked down from the ledge with kind but firm words if you get too hysterical. But most importantly, don't convince yourself that you're pregnant in the tww. That is paramount!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Music, lovely to hear from you and glad all is going well with your lego man!

Jam, I hope when you see the consultant you can get some definitive answers about DH's test results.

Pyjamas, glad you're taking it easy tonight. Hope DH is looking after you!

Lots of PMA for you kwick and anyone else who needs it tonight Flowers

Was hoping I'd be near ovulation this weekend so we don't have to bother DTD too much next week (we're so lazy...) but doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

kwick · 20/01/2017 21:53

pug if you PM me I can send you the bumpf I got from the FC nutritionist. In a nutshell:
Avocados
Pulses
Leafy greens
Oily fish
Dairy
Walnuts
Cinnamon
Cayenne pepper
Eggs
Sweet potatoes

Bloody hell hep how did you do that? Hope it does not hurt too much.

Thanks ladies - I will try to regain my PMA.
Have a sore throat 😭
Gonna have that cuppa and then bed!

AlexiaB · 20/01/2017 22:03

You girls have gone cray Grin serious amount of posts!

pyjamas so pleased your tubes are clear, sounds so painful though Shock Why IVF if everything else is fine? If you get free IVF on the NHS then go for it but if not you should try a few medicated IUIs first. If your DH's sperm is great then you should certainly get your BFP this route. The 'medicated' bit will work wonders on your eggs and help you produce bigger/better/more eggs. Obviously I hope you don't need any of this and the HSG does the trick!

Jam I'm shocked at your GP. I'd be absolutely raging!!! He's lied to you. I really don't want to sugarcoat it hun but without a miracle, IVF with ICSI will be your best option with those numbers. I'm so sorry, it truly sucks Sad xxx

Wing if those were my DH's numbers I'd be concerned but still optimistic. Diet changes and supplements can improve count a lot. I have a list of supplements my DH takes somewhere or there's Proxeed too (quite pricey).

kwick my love Flowers Keeping you in my thoughts and praying all is well with baby bean. PMA PMA PMA Brew

Ok back to try and catch up...

So much to catch up on.

Post dtd i tend to stick my legs in the air whilst dh potters off to the bathroom to clean. I lie down and look sane and normal when i hear him coming back. I panic if it all drops out too fast.

Im feeling a bit better today. Cheered on by af nearly finishing, a better attitude to reapproaching my gp & the the wonderful image of about 15 of you at the gp with me giving her hell. Ttc women in an angry huddle would scare anyone.

Also convinced my dh to donate the back of his garage for a conversion into a utility room off the kitchen. I think he might be a bit frightened of my mental state to say no as he also said we could have new wood flooring in the living room. Grin We have been doing our cottage up a bit at a time for over a year now & i love house stuff so some new projects should take my focus for a bit which is positive.

Lots of love to everyone that needs it today x

CarleyColie · 20/01/2017 22:25

Flash I am a fellow tissue clutch and runner Blush Grin - although recently I have been leaving a pack of baby wipes next to the bed which do a good clean up job!

Skipper/Jam can you put 11 Feb as my testing date please!

Love the positivity Gaelach :)

I'm waiting impatiently for my IC OPK's to arrive, FX they're here tomorrow!

EJ2009 · 20/01/2017 22:31

Watch using wet tissue wipes girls. Never flush them. In our previous house they blocked our drain which was under the porch and we had ahem waste water flooding in our porch.

Pyjamas81 · 20/01/2017 22:43

DH still out kathrino - fine by me, a night in full control of the sofa and remote was exactly what I needed!

I must confess I don't know much about all the different types of assisted conception Alexia - so don't even know what IUI is 😳 Basically fertility consultant said that there's no obvious reason we wouldn't be able to conceive naturally, but if we have no luck and want to go for method with most chance of success (given diminishing amount of time that we have) then IVF would be an option. Hopefully we have some good luck over the next couple of months!

Glad you're feeling a bit better EJ 🙂

Baby wipes are essential! Although am seriously considering using the mooncup method...I use a mooncup anyway for AF, so that wouldn't be anything new!

AlexiaB · 20/01/2017 22:46

Hep you will reap the rewards soon Star Hope you're ok after your tumble. It's always nice to have things to look forward to. I've been booking concert tickets, comedy show tickets etc as a distraction!

Music so glad everything is going well. 12 week scan soon, how amazing!

Peaches I cancelled my appointment with the GP this week as I didn't feel up to it (silly I know). I did have a phone appointment with my DH's family doctor and he thinks it's a womb lining issues so has prescribed me something to make it juicy. He did mention people of different races can sometimes encounter issues ttc and that's now scared the crap out of me Confused Keeping my fx for you xx

I always stay lying down after sex too and keep myself propped up on a cushion. In FW I will make myself orgasm 2-3 times after and then clean up a little and go to sleep (we usually have sex late at night). Shower in the morning. I must say though, I HATE sperm!

Gimble I try to wait until 10dpo but I'm a POAS addict and usually start with cheapies at 7dpo so just ignore me! 12dpo is quite a solid day to test although could still be too early.

Skipper we all have down days but glad to have you back Smile Thanks for doing the list (and Jam), I don't have a date just yet though. Enjoy your fuck it night Wine

kwick I second baby aspirin too. I'm starting it this cycle due to recurrent mc. Have a google if interested.

Flash LSFX Wink

Great PMA Gaelach. Are you Irish?

Kathrino it's always best to dtd O-2 so hopefully dtd this weekend will pay off! LSFX

EJ I blocked the drains too Blush great advice lol!!

kwick I hardly eat any of those foods adds to shopping list Thank you 😙

Ok think I'm caught up now. Phew!

Oh and kwick - sorry to hear yours was painful as well! Definitely planning on asking consultant about DHEA!

WestieM · 20/01/2017 22:48

Hi Everyone,

I'n new here and thought I would join.

Westie
Age - 27
Cycle - 13
CD11
No BFP's so far, my cycle can be anywhere from 26 days to 50 days so hard to predict ovulation day.

I've had a whole range of blood tests, everything has come back normal, husband has had blood/sperm tests and everything is normal.

I have just had surgery (two weeks ago) to have a dermoid cyst removed and they did the tube dye test and everything is fine there. I have slight PCOS which is affecting my cycle but no other symptoms (e.g. hormone levels all normal).

This is my second cycle on Clomid and next step for me is the HCG injections which my doctor is going to start me on next cycle.

Finger's crossed it happens soon! I was on the pill for around 10 years and I really wish I had come off it earlier than I did.

GimbleInTheWabe · 20/01/2017 22:52

Got the news this afternoon that sadly my nan passed away. I'm so glad she was at home with her family, comfy in her own bed and seemed really peaceful when I saw her at the beginning of the week. She lived to the ripe age of 90 (pretty good going esp. since she had a hole in her heart since birth).
Thanks for your support as well ladies it really means a lot Flowers

Gaelach · 20/01/2017 22:54

Yes alexia I am Smile are you?

WingingIt83 · 20/01/2017 22:55

gimble I'm so sorry xx

alexia yeah the more I google the more concerned i am. Would definitely appreciate the list of supplements.

AlexiaB · 20/01/2017 23:01

pyjamas IUI is intrauterine insemination, have a google. It's cheaper and less intrusive than IVF in general and if sperm is good and you're fine then personally I try it for at least 1-2 cycles or get a 3 cycle package. Something to think about but fx it's not needed.

I tried a softcup for the first time yesterday. It was ok I just wasn't sure if it was positioned correctly?

Winging of course, I'll post it tomorrow.

Gimble so sorry for you loss. Love to you and your family Flowers

Welcome Westie. Sounds like you're doing all you can to get your BFP!

Gaelach almost, born in England but my blood is Irish.

GimbleInTheWabe · 20/01/2017 23:12

Welcome Westie! And thank you Alexia and Wing
I forgot also whoever is list compiling my AF is due 27th Jan (not long!).

Kathrino · 20/01/2017 23:23

Welcome Westie (which is an odd thing to write as that's my bro's nickname!). I hope the Clomid works for you this cycle.

Gimble, I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like your nan was at peace although I'm sure that doesn't make it any easier for you Flowers

Thanks for the DTD support Alexia, we will do our best over the weekend and see what happens next week! If all else fails, I'll use my killer trick of lying on top of DH when he's trying to sleep and poking him in the face.

I'm going to see how many of kwick's fertility foods I can squeeze into our meals in the next two weeks. I'm thinking roasted sweet potato + black bean tacos tomorrow with some guac and cheese and some kind of spinach-y salad. And then maybe brownies for pudding because eggs are very important. That only leaves the oily fish which I think I'll have to pass on Confused

Pyjamas81 · 20/01/2017 23:47

So sorry gimble 💐

Thanks for the info AlexiaSmile** - definitely something I'll ask them about and google

passmethewine123 · 21/01/2017 07:12

My test day was today, only 12dpo but I'm out this evening for my birthday so wanted to know beforehand. BFN of course, so I will be enjoying a couple of wines this evening but I'm not going to go crazy as know there is still a possibility. AF due Tuesday so will retest then if she doesn't show but if I'm being really honest with myself I know I don't have any symptoms Sad any I might have thought I had seem to have evaporated. Good luck to any other testers this weekend LSFX for you x

sk1pper · 21/01/2017 07:27

Jam - have you had the same GP all the way through this process? I can't quite work out if he's a) just incompetent or b) trying to pull the wool over your eyes. For what reason though, I have no idea. It doesn't matter whether you have problems with semen or unexplained fertility, both routes are going to eventually lead to IVF so its not necesarilly going to save the NHS money or time. Are you prepared to go back and challenge your GP? Or perhaps file some kind of complaint with the surgery.

Hep - hope your chin is okay this morning, who knew yoga could be so damn lethal - it's always the balance positions that screw everyone over.

Gimble - sorry about your nan, 90 is a very awesome age and I'm glad she at least had family around and the comfort of her home to send her on her way. Thinking of you Flowers

Sorry about BFN passme Flowers

And welcome Westie, sorry your TTC journey has been so long so far but sounds like you've taken lots of positive steps.

Right, going to sort out the list...

Hi skipper I'm cautiously declaring myself a grad now - had BFPs every day since Tuesday and no AF (was due yesterday) so you can take me off the list for now thanks x

kwick · 21/01/2017 08:03

pyjamas, Alexia is right - you might want to try some IUIs before going to IVF.

EJ were you watching the Great Interior Design Challenge on BBC? What about My Dream Home?

Welcome Westie!!!

pyjamas with IUI they monitor the size of your follicles, how thick your womble lining is and when you are about to ovulate. Then normally you inject some HCG to trigger ovulation and about 16 hours later they inseminate you with magic potion. The magic potion is "washed" and spun - and gets put rught where it needs to be to meet the egg. A medicated IUI would give your follicles a push to grow (bigger chance of twins). IUI is a lot less intense (and expensive) than IVF. Depending on your age and other factors normally IVF has more chance of success but for me (as I am no spring chicken) the chances were about the same.
I have done all of these: natural IUI, medicated IUI, natural IVF and medicated IVF - so let me know if you have any questions Grin

Gimble Flowers I am very sorry.

HepKestrel · 21/01/2017 08:22

Welcome westie! We are a bit of a mad bunch here, but lots of different experience, and I wouldn't have made it this far without these lovely ladies.

So sorry gimble - 90 is great innings, but doesn't reduce the loss.

Kwick lsfx for you. PMA.pma. all I know from my brief flurry into Pg land is that the symptoms are as confusing as AF and TTC symptoms.

My chin is fine! Have a nice scab now. It was some position where try to brace your knees against the your elbows, and lift your legs so you are just balancing on your hands. I just toppled forward, but was too forward on the mat so whacked the floor.

Pyjamas81 · 21/01/2017 08:38

Sorry about the BFN wine 💐 It's always tough even if you're expecting it.

Thanks very much for the info kwick! Seems like something I should definitely consider. I'm always a sledgehammer approach type of person so naturally veer towards whatever gets things done quicker and got the impression from consultant that that would be IVF. No harm in discussing IUI with her if it comes to that!

I've got slight pain on right hand side today - which I suppose is normal as right tube struggled yesterday with HSG. Not painful enough to delay kicking off FW though! We haven't dtd for ages (FW really takes it out of us and we quite honestly struggle to want to the rest of the time), so using today's session to flush out his 'old' chaps ha ha

Glad your chin is better hep!

And thanks for the list skipper

Kaydee2017 · 21/01/2017 08:45

Gimble so sorry about your nan, even at 90, still tough SadFlowers

And for the BFN pass Flowers

Hope your chin has recovered too hep!

I am due AF (or rather BFP Grin) 12th Feb if this month follows last, so can you put me down for the please skipper? Smile

Have decided to kick F2Weeks off now at CD9 given I aren't doing OPKs or temping or anything - don't want to miss the egg!!

Hope you all have lovely weekends planned - LSFX to all!!
