Thread 24. TTC #1 - It's been a tough start to the year but 2017 is still the year of the BFP

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

It's not been the best start of the year for most but we're still trying to keep it PMA Star

We've been going a while now so the novelty has somewhat worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We've ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar, and we don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

We have a new Grad's Thread. We recently lost a whole load of ttc veterans to the good side and we're absolutely desperate to join in the fun! May 2017 lead us all to upduffed heaven and the Grad's thread, amen.

We don't have rules as such but expect to be talked down from the ledge with kind but firm words if you get too hysterical. But most importantly, don't convince yourself that you're pregnant in the tww. That is paramount!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

I'm mortified. I wrote 'are' instead of 'our' Blush

Congrats Presh that's a fab line! There's no need to leave if you don't want to.

Welcome Starfish - you've already received some great opk advice Star

There seems to be a lot of us heading for the FW. Hep, Kathrino, Flash... Any others? I'm CD8 and expecting to O on or before CD15. Really wanted to dtd last night as I got a blob of ewcm (very early) but my Femara toothache was sooo bad! Hopefully the worst of it is over now as I feel fine today.
I'm not temping this cycle. Only plan to do a few temps to confirm O as I want to monitor my LP length. If you're curious Jam you could try temping for 1-2 cycles. Your cycles are so regular it won't stress you out from that point of view. You might just want to stop after O is confirmed if you're not enjoying it.

Pyjamas ah nightmare losing your wallet! Don't best yourself up about drinking though. It was a one off and you had fun!

I'm lucky, nothing is tmi for my DH. I sometimes send him pics of my cm/af and ask his opinion, or if he's around I show him in person Shock Sometimes you need a 2nd opinion or just want to moan about it lol

Good luck for Saturday Mouse. Glad they sorted your meds so quickly. Lots of love Flowers

Thanks Kaydee Smile

Apologies if I've missed anyone. Hoping for more BFPs soon Star

Ha ha Alexia - I used the wrong 'there' the other day and nearly punched myself in the face 😂

You're right - it was a one off and a lot of fun, so I'm just going to shake it off. And now I'll have a nice new wallet! I have Apple Pay as well and bank linked new card number to it so I can at least buy bits and pieces until new card arrives. Will need to borrow DH's card to pay for HSG tomorrow morning though!

I think my DH would run screaming from the house never to be seen again if I showed him my CM 😂😂

harrietm87 · 19/01/2017 15:16

Wow alexia your DH is braver than mine! Mine is totally squeamish and doesn't like me to even talk about stuff like that never mind look at it. If we have a baby I'm fully expecting him to faint in the delivery room!

FW is starting Sunday/Monday for me!

Binkybunny13 · 19/01/2017 15:34

Just spent ages catching up (this is the speediest thread ever!)- sorry if I miss anyone

Firstly, thanks for all the kind words and Flowers TTC is a bitch! Just gotta keep moving forwards I guess

Secondly- sorry in advance for the length of this post!

FX peaches that next shopping trip it's for your little one. Good work on not trusting the boobs- stay strong! Hope your contract is sorted

Hope you've had some good sleep Kathrino

EJ I think flash makes a good point about not saying about TTC with the gp- focus on the pains and def the bowel symptoms as they need looking at. Hope today is a better day for you Flowers

Sorry about AF Miranda, but very good positive approach

Hep you are so right about TTC being all waiting! It's so annoying

Flash it is def not fair to have symptoms before ovulation! Wtf do our bodies put us through!

Great news presh- congrats!

Excellent DTD work London 👍

Mouse so sorry with your bloodwork issues- hope you have your scan done on sat and all ok, and they get you fully medicated soon. Thinking of you

Hi winging, yes hope it's all a waste of time for you, and it's a matter of BFP just not happened yet. LSFX

Macs agree with the block of ice feet thing! Hope your bro is doing ok?

Starfish I think a lot of us have found that being too focused on FW results in grumpy OH, so I'd definitely be another to echo heps advice and just get to know your cycle a bit and relax. Some recent BFPs on this thread have come when the ladies have thought they had no chance, so don't stress about it!

Glad to hear you're doing ok alexia. LSFX for this FW being the one that gets a sticky bean Flowers Love your mortification by the grammar slip 😂 And your sharing with your DH! 😜I'm also en route to FW

Oh no about your wallet pyjamas! Hope the hangover naffs off for you

Now going to go and try some positive mantras to stop me being an insane TTC woman today....

Flashinthepan · 19/01/2017 15:35

I have never been so excited to see EWCM. I did not think I was going to be this excited about trying again, more just terrified. Although give it time.

If I do an OPK when I get home, about 5ish, is that too late in the day? I'm either CD9 or CD 13, I've heard ovulating too early is not good, but I'm thinking I might not actually OV for a few more days, as I've only just noticed EWCM and no positive OPKs yet.

EJ2009 · 19/01/2017 15:43

I managed to get in with the gp. She looked at my like i was a desperate hypochondriac. I did mention ttc as it was on my record anyway & hoped she would understand why i want answers but you were right that it changed her view of me. She said she wasnt worried by what i had told her & she said my body has just changed since being on the pill & gettibg older and that it might be ovulation & period pains (i reiterated its my entire luteal phase) she then said "women like you that want a baby worry when it takes time to happen & you start to notice every pain" she went on to basically say it takes some people up to two years and thats still normal. I felt stupid so i cried & that made her think even more it was just me not accepting not being pregnant.

Im going back next week for an internal examination (af today so fanjo was off limits) as she did say endometriosis is a possibility but didnt follow this up if its not ovulation pain.

I will go next week and then decide if i need to pursue this with someone else.

Flashinthepan · 19/01/2017 16:01

EJ I'm sorry that you felt you were treated that way, and frankly, I don't care if it's normal to take up to two years, if something is happening to your body that is not normal for you it needs to be investigated, that's what they are there to do.

I would make a list of each physical symptom and it's frequency, if you can remember and take that with you to the GP and say, "I don't feel that you are taking my concerns seriously because you think it is related to the fact that I am concerned about getting pregnant." Particularly as some of the symptoms you mention, such as constant tiredness and bleeding during bowel movements are nothing to do with your reproductive system in the first place!

Sorry, it makes me angry when people get fobbed off.

AlexiaB · 19/01/2017 16:02

Chuffed to have provided a new mantra Jam Grin

Ha ha pyjamas 😂 A new wallet and making DH pay for the HSG sounds perfect Wink

Harriet oh dear! Fx your DH stays head end and keeps it together in the deliver room when the time comes! Whoop for approaching FW Grin

Winging sorry I missed this earlier. Best of luck for your DH's SA. Hope they don't mess up your bloods this time!

macs sorry I missed this earlier too. I take the Holland and Barrett B100 complex and find it big but tasteless. Which do you take? Hope your brother is okay xx

Never apologise for the length Binky, your effort is amazing! Thank you Smile I can't quite remember where you're at in your cycle but I'm always rooting for you and hoping to see your BFP Flowers

EJ sorry your Dr didn't take you seriously. I agree ttc can take a while for no good reason at all but rectal bleeding needs investigating. Hope you get answers soon Flowers

OP posts:
Kaydee2017 · 19/01/2017 16:13

EJ Flowers definitely second what flash said - if it's not normal for you then it needs to be addressed! If you don't get anywhere next week, is there another GP in your practice you could see?

Londonjam · 19/01/2017 16:15

flash that's not too late. I don't think time of day matters so much with OPKs. I got my positive last night at 10pm; earlier in the day it wasn't quite there yet. Just make sure you haven't drunk pints and pints of water before as it'll be harder to detect in your diluted wee wee.

EJ that's not really acceptable. It's not okay to write someone off as a TTC worrier. I'm sure this is how mistakes get made when sweeping assumptions like that happen. I would try someone else.

Hello binky glad you're feeling brighter

I'm working from home today and feeling very...fertile. DH is here too and I keep looking at him like my prey. Hahaha.

Kathrino · 19/01/2017 16:19

EJ, it does sound like she heard those words 'TTC' and didn't look any further than that. Are you seeing the same doctor next week? There's such a tendency to dismiss women's health issues in the first place and that just seems to be made even worse when you're TTC as well.

EJ2009 · 19/01/2017 16:29

Im not very confident about saying i dont think you are taking ne seriously so i need to take you lot with me as you all have my back!

Another gp had already told me a couple of months ago to go to her with dh in April if we hadnt concerned as i had mentioned it to her in passing to ask if my antibiotics were safe to take. She prompted a discussion and was great and as i say, asked me to go back if needed so i will adk to see her if this gp keeps dismissing me. I really made it clear issues were not hysteria at not conceiving but rather that i felt something wasnt ok given my symptoms.

Binkybunny13 · 19/01/2017 18:00

EJ I am so sorry you didn't have an appropriate appointment. Next week when you go, go in stressing the blood in bowel movement- this is a "red flag" in medicine, which basically means it needs decent investigation as it could be something serious (in your case, quite possibly endometriosis which could be causing you to be anaemic amongst other things). I don't mean to scare you as the risks of it being anything nasty nasty are low, but it's basic medicine to investigate that type of bleeding in case, so please pursue with someone else if you're not being taken seriously. Flash's idea of writing it all down is a good idea- and I'd list it with bleeding first and TTC/reproductive issues last on list. If they give you any shit next week please feel free to PM me (am ex nhs and dealt a lot with complaints- I will draft you a letter if necessary to get them to pull their act together). Really sorry a crappy time is being made worse by poor medical support Flowers

Alexia thank you 😊 I'm CD 13 today but with my weird long cycles I don't expect my FW until about CD18 or so. Also have my gp appointment on Tuesday to talk about my long recent cycles, and whether I have thyroid issues/ PCO or something. Or whether it's more likely I've had a chemical with a couple of weird follow up cycles (27/38/36/36). Not convinced the BFP is coming my way any time soon!

I reckon you'll be fine with the OPK flash- good luck!

And London- 😂 Enjoy feeling fertile and pounce!

Pugmummy87 · 19/01/2017 18:19

Hi all, hope you are all doing OK.

Congrats to miw and presh.

EJ I'm sorry you have been feeling down and that your GP hasn't taken your concerns seriously. I echo flash idea of recording your symptoms and their frequency and taking them back to the GP or see another one. They should not be dismissing your symptoms as you being hyper aware because you are ttc.

All those coming up for fw, lsfx for you all!!

So my GP signed me off work for a week, which was absolutely the right thing to do and I feel better for it. I still get moments of sadness (and I think I probably will for a while), but generally since yesterday I have started to feel overall more brighter and positive for the future. I did debate having a month off from ttc, but felt it would be a wasted cycle, so as my DH says, I'm back on the horse. FW probably isn't until next week for me though.

I'm another Adrienne fan! I've been doing some of her videos on and off over the last year and find her very soothing and relaxing. Yesterday I started her 30 day Videos, day 2 tonight. Also downloaded the 'Headspace' app whereby you do 10 minutes mediatation/mindfulness a day.

Now I just have to get back on slimming world after a week of eating crap.

Kaydee2017 · 19/01/2017 18:21

Just following on from binky, if you're not happy after next week EJ, check out PALs on the NHS choices website - they bill it as a way for patients to get extra information, like a step below a written complaint, but internally the surgery will probably panic (they tend to be viewed as a complaint), and look into your issue - they then have to respond to you within 48 hours. Maybe that might be an option if you don't want to go in on a full complaint Smile

EJ2009 · 19/01/2017 18:23

Thank you all. I feel better knowing that people that dont know me can care this much. Its very heartening xx

OrangeCloud18 · 19/01/2017 18:25

Oh I'm sorry it did not go well EJ... See how it goes next week and ask to see someone else. Endometriosis is serious and if you have it, it would be good to have help and support!
It took 3 months of me going to the GP almost every week for them to take me seriously, they were just dismissing me as a stupid teenager for was probably pregnant and kept telling me to do a pregnancy test and to come back if I still have the symptoms when I have endometriosis! I found a great GP now and not letting her go!

Mouse I am crossing all my fingers that everything will be fine!

Alexia I am so glad that you are feeling better!

I am so happy I am in weekend now! I usually work on weekends but I have 3 days to relax this week! :)

Binkybunny13 · 19/01/2017 18:28

You're not alone EJ- we've got your back!

Hi pug, glad things are feeing a bit brighter. Excellent that you've had some time off work- take care of yourself and don't stress about the slimming world stuff etc- you did what you needed to get through a crappy time, now you're moving forwards. Thinking of you Flowers

EJ2009 · 19/01/2017 18:36

orange would you mind if i ask what symptoms you had/have?

geeup · 19/01/2017 18:47

Soooo behind on this thread but just jumping on to say hi and London - I only get ovulation pain on the left too and I get it every month. No idea why. Will attempt to catch up on everyone else tonight!

Peaches8Posies · 19/01/2017 19:05

Hi ladies, been a busy little day. Just having good a read through.

gimble i always enjoy swimming not been in ages! You have put me in the mood now.

jam lol at the Opks, I'm the same. At least we get 2 see 2 lines somehow! Hmm

mouse im sure you will be fine. PMA and let us know how your scan goes Smile

alexia i have been with them for years. I have 2 contracts (was easier having in my name when OH was out the country). Against my better judgement, I renewed both of them in November and have had nothing but hassle since! This is my last contract! Glad you are feeling more upbeat. Have you spoken to your doctor about what's been happening? Flowers

Re ovulating pain, I'm always right sided. Seems left is more popular here.

Peaches8Posies · 19/01/2017 19:10

ej what everyone has said here is great advice. Sorry you have been dismissed this way. With out boring you with loads of details, I spent much of 2015 in and out of hospital. One of the first ' red flags' they always asked me about was rectal bleeding. Your gp should have took this seriously! In fact one of my consultants told me if this happens it needs investigated straight away. It's usually nothing serious but they need to be on top of it asap. Can you get an appointment with the nir gp

Peaches8Posies · 19/01/2017 19:13

Sorry pressed to quickly. Can you get an appointment with the nice gp you seen before? Tell her it's related to this issue only, you need answers as to why you are always in pain. I really hope you get a much more sympathetic response x

Peaches8Posies · 19/01/2017 19:17

Hi pug glad you have had some you time to help process everything you have gone through. Yeh to being back on the horse Smile. Hopefully you won't wait too long for your sticky bean x

Thinking thank crunchy it's Friday tomorrow. It's been a busy week! Grin

HepKestrel · 19/01/2017 19:30

pug glad your looking after yourself.

instead of taking a break - you could just take a break from opk-ing and temp-ing. take the stress off?
