Welcome to our third thread on PCOS. What we don't know isn't really worth knowing. We're a friendly bunch of women who have a few things in common. We all have either PCOS or unexplained infertility and we're all on a mission for a BFP!!!!

For new members, and old alike here are the links to our 1st and 2nd threads:

Now without further ado, let's continue on our journey.......

Thank you for all your support last week ladies, it meant a lot to me. I think I did quite well, some tears but DP was really supportive. I think it's hard for him, because he says that he doesn't hurt the same way, but he wishes he could take it from me.

I do wish PMS and pregnancy symptoms weren't so similar! I try so hard not to 'symptom spot' but it's hard to tell apart what is real and what is hope. Picking up a pack of 1st responses tomorrow, and I'm either testing the 13th, or trying to hold out until the 20th! My cycles seem to be getting a little more regular, those dates aren't miles apart anymore.

Crossing my fingers for everyone! Lots of moving forward and next steps at the moment it seems, so hopefully it means babies soon!

So this is it. AF arrived this morning so will start clomid tomorrow night. Here's to a successful cycle 🤞🏻

PCOS, have not had a period since coming off birth control 8 months ago.
Currently waiting for my referral to a gynaecologist (I hear the wait is about end of May) deciding if I should go private for my appointment. I would like to start on medication soon, can anyone help me with how much the costs are for private consult and medication?
Xx

Hi all,
I have been following this thread for a few months and it's really helped to see others feeling the same (altho I wish we weren't going through this crap!!). I am nearly 34 and ttc #1. We have been trying 2 years with no BFPs at all which scares me that it will never happen.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 18 months ago. I am now on cycle 4 of clomid, day 11 with 2 more cycles to go and take metformin twice a day. Next apt to discuss next steps is in May. I am just hoping it happens before then!

satsoooma · 11/03/2017 19:12

Was really looking forward to this weekend, spending time with a group of really good friends. Two of them turned up visibly pregnant. Had to step out and cry before I could put on a happy face again.

All my friends belong to this one group really and they are all going to have babies of the same age and do fun stuff together without me. What makes it worse is that as a group, they are almost entirely uninterested in having kids, but their partners wanted them. Meanwhile, I have known I wanted a family since I was a child myself and get nothing.

SLady · 11/03/2017 22:54

Elizabeth I recently enquired about costs, it might be slightly different where you are but a consultation was £200, Clomid for 3 months £15, scans £120 each, blood test £30. They advised the amount of scans you might need in one month could vary could be 2, 3, 4. They don't offer a package where I am. I get the impression once you start treatment privately there's no turning back and switching to nhs again. So would have to see it through privately.

Barsons welcome. This thread is a great place to talk about things, it really helps. Fingers crossed this is your lucky cycle. Have you been having tracking? Have you been ovulating on Clomid?

satsooma poor you. Did you know your friends were pregnant or was it a surprise today? It must be awful having a group of friends who are all having babies I really feel for you :( seems so unfair at times doesn't it. How some people can get pregnant even by accident and we're all here struggling!

Barsons83 · 11/03/2017 23:06

Thanks for the welcome SLady. The hospital has done nothing to monitor me on clomid, no blood tests or scans. I must of ovulated tho as had positive opks and period 2 weeks later. We are having follicle tracking scans done privately tomorrow as just want to find out if clomid has affected lining at all

satsoooma · 12/03/2017 07:51

Thanks SLady. It was a complete surprise. To be fair, I think it is more that they are trying not to make a massive deal out of it, because they don't want to to become the sort of people who lose all their other interests and only ever talk about their kids. But the side effect of that is that they just show up one day with a massive bump.

And of course, they were all chatting about what they still needed to buy for their babies. It just reminded me that 2 years ago, when I first wanted to start TTC, I spent all this time reading about pregnancy, childbirth, newborns and what sort of things I would need to buy. I even read some books about parenting. I had kind of forgotten about it all, but yesterday I realised how much I had been looking forward to all that and what a waste of time all that reading had been.

ElizabethCatherine · 12/03/2017 09:53

That's for that @SLady I really don't know which route to take. Seems like the bills privately can really rack up :(

@satsooma it's so hard sometimes isn't it. I had to go to a 1 year old birthday party last week and it was so difficult. All the mumma's with their little ones and hanging out and pregnant ladies discussing their excitement and I'm just on the back burner looking in feeling like I may not get that opportunity. Puts such a weight on my chest. It's gotta happen at some point for us all.. it's just so disheartening not knowing when or how many years we could be feeling like this.

YouBoggleMyMind · 12/03/2017 11:26

So AF decided to just show her face for like 2 hours and now I've gone back to spotting. Can't start clomid and will have to move my scan. Blah.

satsoooma · 12/03/2017 11:30

That sounds frustrating Boggle. Probably just the provera messing with things. Hope AF shows up soon.

YouBoggleMyMind · 12/03/2017 12:29

I'm really sorry you had such a rubbish baby bomb day yesterday satsooma, sounds like it was hard work. Hugs. I hope you're looking after yourself today.

I think it's the provera too, it's just annoying really!

satsoooma · 12/03/2017 15:49

Thanks Boggle and Elizabeth. I am feeling a bit better about it today.

I'm really not feeling hopeful about this cycle. Last cycle, I truly thought I would be pregnant. This time, I am going to make sure I do everything I can to make it work, but only because I want to know that I did everything I could, not because I think it will work. I know it won't.

Sorry to be so gloomy today ...

YouBoggleMyMind · 12/03/2017 19:55

I feel the same about my last cycle too. 9 haven't worked so why should the 10th... my counsellor would tell me off for thinking like that... xxx

satsoooma · 12/03/2017 20:35

Hahaha! Maybe I should get me one of them counsellors. Sounds like a sensible person. I like to think of it like flipping a coin at this point. I am ovulating, just got to keep playing the odds. 4 tails so far, surely we must get a heads soon.

barristerbump · 12/03/2017 21:27

Hi all,

I've been touched reading all your highs and lows.

I am 29 and ttc #1. I came off the pill in June 2016. It took 3 months to get a period and since then my cycles have been irregular and very long (50 days plus usually - except one that was 32 days). I'm not overweight but both my mum and sister have PCOS (although neither of them are overweight either).

We're struggling to conceive so I went to see the GP and asked if I may have PCOS. She was most unhelpful. She told me they'd do nothing until we'd struggled to conceive for 2 years and all she did was list me for a blood test to be done in the first 5 days of my period.

I'm on CD49 and still no period so I'm getting very frustrated waiting.

Is this the usual course for beginning the diagnosis? Is there anything I can do in terms of seeking a private referral to see if I can get a diagnosis?

Would really welcome your wise words!

satsoooma · 12/03/2017 21:51

Hi barrister. That does not sound right to me. Although fertility treatment is a bit of a postcode lottery and some areas seem to be trying to save money by making it harder to get help with TTC. Can you try another GP?

I would expect you to be offered blood tests on cycle days 5 and 21, with follow ups if that shows anything. If you do have PCOS you should be refered to a fertility clinic after 6-12 months of trying. It is often down to whether you get a helpful GP.

satsoooma · 12/03/2017 21:52

Oh and you could ask for a provera prescription to kick start your period. Should not even need a PCOS diagnosis for that one.
