Welcome to our third thread on PCOS. What we don't know isn't really worth knowing. We're a friendly bunch of women who have a few things in common. We all have either PCOS or unexplained infertility and we're all on a mission for a BFP!!!!

For new members, and old alike here are the links to our 1st and 2nd threads:

Thanks so much, that's really helpful. Maybe I'll give it another week and pop back to see a different GP if I haven't had any sight of my period.

Presumably I can't ask for a referral before I get a diagnosis from the GP? I was hoping to avoid my unhelpful GP so I could go to someone else for a diagnosis!

FluffyEwok · 12/03/2017 22:25

Hello been thinking today and I'm unsure re ivf. I just can't be arsed. I've been thinking about what a great life I can have without kids and I'm veering towards saying sod it this is the card I've be dealt man up and enjoy it. But I'm a people pleasing wimp so will probably go ahead with the ivf.

YouBoggleMyMind · 12/03/2017 22:39

Fluffy, step back a second and think about what YOU want. In this situation, no one else matters. If you you want to stop and enjoy the life you have, then you do it. If you want to continue and see what IVF brings, then you do that. You're only 30, you still have 5 years under the NHS to get treatment and after that, you can go private. Please look after yourself and don't be hard on yourself. It's rich coming from me cos I'm a fucking mess but please give yourself a little bit of love.

FluffyEwok · 12/03/2017 22:41

I just don't know what I want

satsoooma · 13/03/2017 09:16

Hi Fluffy. Could you get some counselling sessions to help you think through the decision? Or maybe take a few months' break and just see if you want to get back into things in the summer. Who are the people you would be pleasing by getting IVF?

SLady · 13/03/2017 09:33

Elizabeth I've opted for a private consultation but I am not going to start treatment until my nhs appt comes through as I don't think I could afford private as the costs could really escalate.

Barsons that sounds like a good idea. Keep us updated!

satsooma that must be so horrible when it's sprung on you with no time to emotionally prepare :( hope you're feeling a little better today.

boggle last lucky cycle. Fingers crossed for you!

barrister that does not sound right at all. Even if she is unwilling to refer you, she should still do the bloods/ultrasound to diagnose pcos. I would try another GP, 2 years sounds like a very long time for an initial referral.

After what you said Elizabeth I got out a few books from the library and im feeling motivated I've decided to go all out and go on a hardcore PCOS diet. I'm going to do it for 3 months and see if it has an effect. It's the worst diet in the world....no dairy, no sugar, no white carbs!! Goodbye to all my favourite foods! My skin is awful, I have more stubble on my chin than DH and my period is no where to be seen! I need to do something!

SLady · 13/03/2017 09:35

Hi fluffy I second boggle. There's no right or wrong answer and you need to do what's right for you. Maybe a little break might help. If you took 6 months out the answer might become a bit clearer xx

YouBoggleMyMind · 13/03/2017 15:39

Ladies, advice... looks like AF us actually here this time so do I count today as cd1 or tomorrow as we're already quite far into today?

satsoooma · 13/03/2017 16:08

I'd say today is CD1, start Clomid tomorrow. Although if you take it in the morning, maybe wait one more day.

I don't think it matters hugely, I am always guessing when to start mine, as ever since starting clomid I have this really annoying slow start/stop to AF, with several days of spotting/light flow either side. At this point I am spending almost half my life on my period Hmm.

YouBoggleMyMind · 13/03/2017 17:37

I was thinking the same satsooma and I take it at night so it would be much later in the day on cd2 xx

FluffyEwok · 13/03/2017 20:02

My DH is older though so we dont really have time. I just cant be arsed. Im tired all the time. Ive not followed the diet either so that might go against me.

NeverGoOutOfStyle · 13/03/2017 20:21

How do you ladies with irregular cycles work out when to test? my cycles are sort of consistent in that they're either 30 or so days, or roughly 50, so I can't work out when is actually the right time for me to test.

ElizabethCatherine · 13/03/2017 20:27

@BarristerBump get your GP to send you to the hospital to have an ultrasound. I had to ask for it but they sent me and the wait list was very short I was seen within a month and that scan confirmed straight away that I had PCOS the x-ray tech even told me she could see many cysts and then made an appointment with my doctor 1 week later to discuss the scan.

@SLady good for you for starting a good diet! I just did the same. I am on day 8 of no dairy, refined sugars, white carbs, gluten etc. It's a 3 week cleanse I am doing and is very good. It's the book called CLEAN by Alejandro Junger. It's amazing and does wonders for digestion and skin. I'm doing this to clean out my system and start fresh with clean eating after.

SLady · 13/03/2017 20:56

I will check that book out thanks Elizabeth. I really want to find a good pcos diet book. At the moment I am using Madeleine Shaw's book. As i said before she has pcos so most of the recipes are suitable. Let me know how you get on with your diet. One of the main reasons I'm doing it is my skin, it's getting me down so much. I have to wear so much make up now. It's just been getting worse and worse since I came off the pill. I'm hoping cutting out dairy and eating more oily fish will help

YouBoggleMyMind · 13/03/2017 21:13

Fluffy, sounds like you've already made up your mind. Why not switch off and enjoy life? You seem so angry about everything (which I totally get and am hanging off the back of another break down last night and am dreading seeing my counsellor tomorrow). Does your DH also feel the same or is that how you think he feels cos you're cross with the world?

YouBoggleMyMind · 13/03/2017 21:16

Never do you know when you ovulate in any given cycle? The length doesn't especially matter if you know when you're ovulating? I don't have a cycle at all unless I'm pumped with drugs and then it's pretty predictable at 28-32 days. Xx

YouBoggleMyMind · 13/03/2017 21:18

Oh and Fluffy, I've not following the diet either. I'm sat here watching football, eating butter popcorn and drinking a beer.

Elly1685 · 13/03/2017 21:37

Good Evening Lovely Ladies.

I have been quietly lurking since my IVF referral, it was all a bit too much so I decided to forget all things 'TTC' which included binning the ovulation tests, deleting any apps and avoiding mumsnet for a while.

Its been an emotional day today - had my referral and funding confirmed for IVF and told - it will start in 8 weeks... but i've had no other treatment, no clomid, no provera...NOTHING! I rang the fertility clinic and explained all this and said that I felt my journey was going from 0-60 in a matter of months. So... I've got an appointment with a consultant in 4 weeks to discuss other options which hopefully include tablets so I can ttc naturally first. Yes it might mean that I'm putting off the inevitable but I don't feel ready for IVF yet.

How are you all? I haven't caught up on the thread yet so not sure where you are all up to xx

FluffyEwok · 13/03/2017 21:40

Hi Ely. Starting ivf on Monday but getting cold feet.

FluffyEwok · 13/03/2017 21:41

Boggle im not angry i just cant be arsed.

Elly1685 · 13/03/2017 21:46

Why are you having cold feet Fluffy? Maybe because it's so real and so close now ...

xx

Elly1685 · 13/03/2017 21:50

If you are having cold feet can't you put your treatment on hold? I was told that now I've been approved for funding I can put it back as long as my circumstances don't change i.e have a child in the meantime or change partner then the funding will be there for me...

Could you possibly ring them and ask for it to be put back 3 months, maybe that will help you get things clearer in your mind?

Barsons83 · 13/03/2017 22:25

Hey all,
Had my follicle tracking scan yday as wanted to know more about what clomid is doing. Was very useful as it showed ovulation was imminent on day 12 - last 3 cycles were day 16 or 17 (or so I thought). Also showed that lining was just over 8mm. Have got follow up scan wed to check that I did actually ovulate

SLady · 13/03/2017 22:48

Good news barsons much more helpful having the the tracking scans. Least you're not in the dark about what's going on! Personal Q but do you DTD every day or every other around ovulation time?

Hi elly can you remind me why you went straight to IVF? Sounds sensible if you're not ready to wait a bit until you are. Especially if you can just pick it up when you want to without having to be re-referred. Hopefully the consultant will be able to suggest something

Barsons83 · 13/03/2017 23:01

Hey SLady it varies from month to month but yday at the scanning place, the nurse said do dtd every other day rather than every day so not to reduce sperm quality so trying that this month

Fluffy completely get how you're feeling. We'll be discussing ivf at our next apt in May. It all does feel like hard work for something that comes easily to ladies without Polycystic ovaries! I decided that I am only willing to put myself through 3 cycles and if it hasn't happened by then, will look into adoption
