I almost put this in arts and crafts, seeing as how we talk about crochet as much as we talk about babies!

Are you not 28+3 Beedles? I always thought you were exactly a week behind me. Or am I 28+3 and not 29+3 as I thought? Hmm confusing.

BeedlesPineNeedles · 11/08/2016 15:12

Definitely 27+3 for me, I thought you were 2 weeks ahead of me! Actually by my dates I'm 27+4 (I've just realised today is Thursday not Wednesday)

Imps9 · 11/08/2016 15:59

Ah okay thanks for confirming. 29+3 it is.

Imps9 · 11/08/2016 16:00

(for me)

keepitgoing · 11/08/2016 17:07

I have bravado body silk nursing bras. V v comfy. I sometimes wore crop top bras towards the end of preg. beedle it's tricky to know what to buy. I think I'd buy a few tiny baby but not lots, assong he won't be in them for long. If born vv early I think they'd be naked in the incubator, or if not am sure you could buy sth locally and/or the Hosp would have something. Kip was 7lb at 37 weeks and newborn was fine so you just can't tell. Oh, silly placenta. Of all the places to choose to grow... Have they done you a scan this time when you were admitted?

trix good tip on unscented stuff!

MagicBoobLady · 11/08/2016 19:11

I wouldn't recommend nursing bras in the early days as your ribcage will go back down and your boob will fluctuate. Stretchy crop top styles such as Billy Bums are great until your supply settles at around 8-12 weeks.

Pastamancer · 11/08/2016 19:15

Maternity pads I say the more the merrier. I took 1 pack of thick ones in with me and had to get DH to bring another pack the next day. The thick ones are more comfortable for the first few days when your lochia is heaviest and while you may still be sore. I found the flow to be much heavier than any period I've ever had and was regularly changing them as would get flooding.

Lansinoh can be good if you end up with sore nipples, I never had a problem so didn't bother buying any the second time round and the first one I ended up sending to another Brooker as I wasn't using it.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 11/08/2016 19:50

Crikey you have all been chatty today!

Imps, I think they just say disposable knickers because it can get very very messy and if things go wrong or happen faster than expected they just rip them away, if you are wearing real pants they have to get scissors to cut them off or make you take them off which you might not be co operative over at the time lol.

We didn't bother with cotton wool for nappy changes, we took baby wipes. Did take a small amount of cotton wool for cleaning their eyes though.

Beedles re clothes to take, on the post natal wards here they are extremely hot so the babies don't get cold, so you just need vest tops and comfy trousers, and nightwear really and I'm guessing will be the same over there. Bigger pants is wise, you might be one of the unlucky ones like me and swell up after the birth, my skin felt like it was going to split, took a few days for the excess fluids to work their way out of my body.

Imps I bought pads from tesco, took one pack of the big ones, and then a pack of their thinner ones.

Re scented toiletries, I just used my normal things. I doubt it would make any difference to a baby to be honest, they are meant to know your voice by the time they are born and it doesn't take long before they can recognise you by sight anyhow.

Yes re taking flip flops. Hospitals are not as clean as you might like, and especially when you have a shower, much better walking in and out in flip flops!

Beedles re sleep bras, I bought mine from mother care, they were in packs of 2, wrap over design and very comfy. I had to wear sleep bras and breast pads until I finished breast feeding as I would always leak! For daytime, I wore nursing bras from mother care, they had lots of clasps on them so as your rib cage reduced in size, you could adjust them. Re possible baby sizes, a friend had her son at 27+4, and he weighed 2lb 6 oz. He is fine, will be 6 later this year. I know of many babies born at 35 weeks that were 5-6lb. One born at 30 weeks that was just over 4lb. So unless you deliver very soon, chances are that tiny baby will be fine. Again I don't know about over there but here the hospitals have plenty of clothes that have been donated for premature babies. And lots of hats that have been knitted and donated. When they are very small they tend to just have a nappy on and a hat and then be kept warm in the incubators. I think the nappies are provided too.

Keep you know me too well. Yes I have been feeling things, and had a crazy dream last night that DH found a snake in our greenhouse and tried to pick it up.

Imps, I am due to see prof q next Friday when I will be 13 dpo. Will test on Thursday.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 11/08/2016 19:54

And personally I would never breastfeed without using lansinoh from day 1, apply religiously after every feed even if you don't think you are sore as unless you are lucky like pasta and don't get sore, by the time you are sore it will take a while to fix!

keepitgoing · 11/08/2016 20:54

Agree, I was desperate for lansinoh, it doesn't take long with a poor latch to get cracks

Good luck loopy

BeedlesPineNeedles · 12/08/2016 08:14

keep yes I was very thoroughly examined. First they monitored the baby with a ctg, then we saw the Dr and he did an internal exam, I think to check that the blood wasn't coming from anywhere else. Then a dildocam to check cervix length and to see exactly where the placenta was. Then a normal scan to check on the baby, then another internal as he had forgotten to take a sample of the blood. Then I had another few hours attached to the ctg whilst they decided where to move me.

loopy I was actually on a combined pregnancy monitoring and postnatal ward and it was a fairly comfortable temperature. Warmer than our house (unless there's a heatwave) but not excessively warm.
My leaflets on what I need to bring say "feel free to bring your own clothes for the baby" not you must bring clothes or he/she will be naked and freezing! They don't mention bringing nappies and wipes at all so I think I need to ask the mw about that. Though obviously they are quite easy to get hold of, unlike maternity pads which can only be bought at a chemist Hmm - I bought a huge pack in mothercare last month!

Hope the appointment with Prof q goes well next week and she has some ideas/solutions.

pasta yes that was the kind of thing I was thinking of. And lovely patterns too. I'm not sure the bravado body silk would be big enough (well it would fit now but there might not be much growing room!)

beedle the ginormous boobs only last a couple of days then back down to late pregnancy size I think they suggest you get measured and buy at 30 odd weeks. I wouldn't want anything too fitted or wired though as even through they day the fluctuate lots at first ie before and after feeding

Pastamancer · 12/08/2016 11:40

A bra bought at 30 odd weeks is very unlikely to fit for very long after the birth as your ribcage will have expanded during pregnancy and will start going back down after the birth so the band will be too big and everyone is different in how much their boobs fluctuate to having a normal nursing bra isn't great as it isn't likely to fit.

Imps9 · 12/08/2016 19:22

I tried on a v comfy John Lewis nursing top/bra and I was going to post the link and ask if you had any inside info about it MagicBoobLady, but they don't seem to have it online. It comes in small, medium and large, rather than back/cup size and was only £16.

Who's loving the Olympics then?

Imps9 · 12/08/2016 19:45

Oh I've found it - I was searching for "bra" previously, which it isn't

Not a nursing bra

keepitgoing · 12/08/2016 20:42

That looks good to me imps

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 12/08/2016 21:07

That wouldn't have been any good for me, doesn't look supportive enough for the weight of my boobs now never mind when full of milk!!

Imps9 · 12/08/2016 21:24

When you are of as modest boob as I am, you'd get enough support from a wet sheet of kitchen roll Grin

BeedlesPineNeedles · 13/08/2016 06:32

I was looking at this one

And/or this

My rib cage directly under my boobs hasn't actually expanded yet, even though it feels like it sometimes. Though I have got a relatively long abdomen for my very average height!

My friend from work sent me a bunch of flowers yesterday :o

No Olympics watching here imps as we don't have access to the right channels. Rather a shame as I could have watched loads.

Urgh, mil asked if she could feel the baby kick after dh commented on a particularly violent one... What could I say, I had to let her but urgh. Luckily it kicked quite soon and we weren't waiting ages

Hope you're OK beedle

keepitgoing · 14/08/2016 08:18

PS watch it online BBC sport

Imps9 · 14/08/2016 08:51

Ooooh bump touching is always a bit odd. Strangely it's only been men who've grabbed my bump so far, no women. And one of those bump grabs I particularly objected to as it was in conjunction with the question "so was it planned"? Yuck yuck yuck.

First NCT class kicks off in a hour. I'm really quite nervous.

I think BBC online content is only available in the UK Keep, or is that just iPlayer?

keepitgoing · 14/08/2016 13:11

Hope you're having fun imps, share any nuggets! Yuck yuck to was it planned!

Imps9 · 15/08/2016 09:05

I did have fun actually Keep - it was so much better than I thought it would be and we both really enjoyed it although Mr I felt really faint when we were talking about the placenta. And although it was in the next village along, pretty much everyone there is from my village which is really nice. And they all seemed nice and friendly. Glad we signed up in the end.

You must finish work soon Keep? And how is the pottering going Beedles?

Can we have some up to date bumpies and crochies please? My rainbow blanket is coming on...

The one where the BROOKERS make babies and blankets and hats and other crochet stuff!
BeedlesPineNeedles · 15/08/2016 09:55

imps the nct course sounds great and the blanket is looking lovely. I'll take a new bumpie when I next get off the sofa!

We had rather a busy weekend (not quite what the Dr ordered) but we were feeling a bit stressed about lack of baby things but we now own a car seat and Base, crib mattress and bedding, and a half-built ikea chest of drawers. I also bought a couple of bits of clothing that are apparently smaller than newborn, but now I'm comparing them to an m & s newborn vest they're actually slightly bigger Hmm

So I have now just got to order a few things online and then we could almost cope if the baby comes early or I get confined to bed!

I haven't had any bump touching (not that I'm complaining)
