Kwick - the scan thing is a funny one for me. When I was pregnant in the Spring I had a scan at 7+5 which showed a healthy foetus and heartbeat. When I was scanned at 11 weeks they told me that the foetus had died at 7.5 weeks, so rightly or wrongly there is a strong connection in my mind between the scan and the foetus dying. During that scan the trainee sonographer had problems with the computer and she left the probe in the same place for 2–3 minutes while she fiddled with the computer. The probe is supposed to be kept more or less constantly moving so it doesn't overheat any part of your uterus or the foetus. It stressed me out at the time but stupidly I didn't say anything. I should have told her to take the probe out.
Also, I am going to have to be scanned a lot in the later stages of any pregnancy due to my two blood issues (APS and Anti-S). These scans will be absolutely necessary. I am concerned about excessive scanning due to links (in mice of course) found with ASD so I would rather not have a scan at 7 weeks which will make no difference whatsoever to the outcome of the pregnancy and reserve scanning for when what they see will actually inform my treatment.
I don't want to put anyone off scanning so if this has worried anyone, just look at the NHS info on scanning which says its perfectly safe, and then you can write me off as a bit of a worry wart
which I am!
