Hi Ladies. Thanks for the responses. So I'm early 40s and we've been trying for several years to have baby number 2, but I finally went to get checked out thinking they'd just tell me I was too old and had run out of eggs. Apparently not! I have the egg supply of a 30 year old - hurray! They just aren't getting where they need to go...

I was so shocked I left without asking any questions and did the whole "Do I want to do anything about this or should I just count my blessings (as I've been doing for years)" for several weeks. And have now realised that I definitely do want another baby if I can help it along without going insane. My best friend has been going through IVF for the last four years and it just looks horrific...back to the counting blessings position...except then I read about the Clomid stuff and thought it might be worth a try.

I'm finding it difficult to access reliable, succinct info - where should I look? What do I need to know? I'm old(ish) and have a 6 year old to juggle as well as a full time job and dependent parents, so could do with some short cuts to focus on what I really, really need to consider and how to make it happen.

All pointers gratefully received!

YouBoggleMyMind · 02/08/2016 21:55

Thanks dani, feeling good. Yes DH and I went together. He can't do any of the treatment but he can get in shape with me so we're doing that.

peppals, I suspect you may have to be referred on privately for clomid/fertility treatment as you already have a lovely kiddy. You'll need to check your clinical care governance where you gp is based. Sadly funding is different depending on where you are in the U.K.

Other than that, pcos is hugely effected by weight, diet, lifestyle so if there are any changes you can make there, it may help. I struggle with that the most as I love food and booze! Trying to kick my arse into gear and shift the lbs. I did it for my wedding so I don't know why I can't do it now!

Me too boggle lost just shy of 3 stone for my wedding just can't seem to get it together this time 😑 I also love food and booze - any booze, I'm not an alcoholic by any means but I just love any alcohol, I don't have a favourite. Spirits, wine, beer, cider, cocktails..... 😟

YouBoggleMyMind · 03/08/2016 11:04

You sound like my twin amy. GrinCakeWine

So any sign of AF? Can you get another blood test?

OP posts:
AmyC86 · 03/08/2016 16:20

GrinWine cheers to you boggle lol

And No to both questions 😣 CD29 today

YouBoggleMyMind · 03/08/2016 17:11

Today is fat day so I'll be raising a glass (or 4!) to you ladies WineWineWine

Hmm, time to pee on a stick? Do you get my injections or is it IVF time?

OP posts:
danigrace · 03/08/2016 21:49

Peppals that's great you still have eggs! What tests have you had? Have you had any bloodwork / scans for pcos?

Boggle that's so cool you & your DH are getting fit together Smile For some reason I see IVF as the last set of chance, so personally I'd rather try everything else first.

Boggle & Amy until last year that's always been me too, I love all the drinks and all the foods!! haha. tbh it makes me kind of thankful for my bladder condition bc giving up all the things I have would have been a lot harder otherwise. I'm like an unfortunate animal being electric shock trained (shooting bladder pain) when I have something I shouldn't!

AmyC86 · 05/08/2016 12:35

Bless you dani

Took my first dose of vitamins today- vitamin D and magnesium glycinate.

Vitamin D helps with:

  • Insulin resistance
  • Ovulatory and menstrual irregularities
  • Hirsutism
  • Hyperandrogenism
  • Obesity
  • pregnancy success

Magnesium glycinate helps with:

  • Anxiety and Panic attacks.
  • Bowel disease
  • Depression
  • Diabetes and Insulin resistance
  • Fatigue
  • High blood pressure
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Insomnia
  • Tooth decay

I was going to get some omega 3 too, but apparently it's better obsorbed through food & the best food for omega 3 is walnuts!

Hi, AmyC invited me over here when I posted a thread myself. I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year and when I met with the consultant he said when we wanted to TTC DC2 to be referred back to him for clomid and (I think?) metformine.

Could anyone advise how long it normally takes to be referred for that sort of thing? Also what it involves as I didn't actually ask at the time Blush

danigrace · 05/08/2016 21:37

How are you Amy? I always like to see what others are having! Vit D & magnesium are part of my ritual too amongst all my other jazz lol. (I'll list it all if anyone's interested; I have had my first natural period since March and consistent temps for the first time ever so hopefully it's all helping!!) I have the D-Lux 3000 oral spray & have the magnesium in oil format as a skin spray as I read it was better absorbed that way if your digestive system isn't fantastic which mine isn't.

Welcome Thursday! The length of time and the procedure varies hugely depending on your local NHS trust. I was referred 13 May & had my first appointment 21 Jun and now go back 23 Aug for more results and a treatment plan. I'd already had bloods & an ultrasound done & PCOS diagnosed at the GP before all that. DH had tests 2 weeks ago that the consultant requested we do. Mine wants me to have a lap & dye before clomid but that seems not to be the case for most. Also some NHS trusts seem to want to to be a healthy weight before giving treatment whilst others suggest it but don't insist.

AmyC86 · 06/08/2016 00:28

Welcome Thursday dani is right, it all depends upon your local NHS xx

MustBeThursday · 06/08/2016 09:39

Thanks! OK, well I've already had a few blood tests and ultrasounds between Jan and May this year when I got the diagnosis (investigating lack of periods, we weren't TTC) - consultant just said I'd need to be referred back to him for the medication, didn't mention that they'd want any other tests?

He didn't mention anything about weight either - if it is a requirement would I need to be in the normal BMI range do you think? I'm just out - 25.6 according to NHS calculator - so I do need to lose some weight.

I (rather naively) thought it would be a case of going back, getting tablets and then taking them Blush I suppose I should have thought about it a bit more. I'm sort of at the border for NHS trusts I think - my GP is one bit but the hospital where I was referred for the ultrasound etc, is in another one.

danigrace · 06/08/2016 13:56

Thursday experiences do vary hugely so it could be that simple, and it's positive that you potentially have your pick of 2 nhs trusts. Studies have shown losing as little as 5% of your body weight can help with pcos so it can't hurt anyway!

Well I've got everything crossed I might ovulate before my next appointment, I should know by the end of next week.

Where's everyone else up to? Xx

AmyC86 · 06/08/2016 14:36

In my nhs trust, they require your bmi to be 30 or under xx so it all depends x

I'm CD#32 following my second round of clomid at 50mg. Had CD#21 bloods which came back low at 1.2 so I know that I haven't ovulated yet. Just waiting for AF to show now..... I've got an appointment in September, but I've misplaced the letter, tired to ring yesterday but no answer so I'll have to try on Monday. In other news, I've caught a stinking head cold from my nephew so feeling rather poo to say thexactly least 😣

YouBoggleMyMind · 07/08/2016 21:52

Hi ladies, how are we all?
Nothing new to report other than no positive ovulation tests and waiting for our next appointment on Wednesday.
Sorry you have a cold amy. Sad

How are you dani?

Hi other ladies xxx

danigrace · 08/08/2016 11:03

Amy Ugh, big hugs! Are you feeling any better today? Will they up you to 100mg at your next appt?

Boggle sorry to hear no +ve opks. Good luck for Wednesday.

No +ve opk here yet but only CD12 & wet pants so I live in hope Grin
Still taking a list of natural medicines and supplements the length of my arm and clean eating / fetility massaging / yogaing etc. Keen to try all I can before taking the meds bc I very often don't do well with prescription drugs, allergic or hypersensitive to a lot of it which is what drove me to natural methods in the past at my old GPs recommendation funnily enough! No ovulated since I came off my pill in March so it'll be a miracle if I do ov but I am hopeful after this period showed up without help... fingers crossed

danigrace · 08/08/2016 11:05

*since I came off my pill in Oct - last period was March!

Beckygizmov1 · 08/08/2016 14:35

Hello ladies.

Thanks for inviting me over to this thread, I'm new to this so don't actually have a clue what I'm doing! X

YouBoggleMyMind · 08/08/2016 17:17

Hi becky, welcome!

Tell us a little about yourself and situation and then we'll see what we can help with Smile

Ugh I just had a smear test. My cervix feels all funny!! Hmm

OP posts:
danigrace · 08/08/2016 21:37

Welcome Becky! How long have you been trying for? Where are you up to with everything?

Boggle It's all for a good cause!! Hate that feeling though...

YouBoggleMyMind · 08/08/2016 22:32

Yes, I've seen someone go through cervical cancer. She was 26 at time. Luckily she is clear of it but had to have a hysterectomy and a lot of chemo and radiotherapy. It's so important to go and be checked.

Beckygizmov1 · 09/08/2016 00:17

Hi ladies,

I'm not sure how to tag people's names haha.

I've been trying for 4 years. Diagnosed with PCOS at 19, always had irregular periods either non stop bleeding or non existent. Lost weight the beginning of the year (-18lbs) not loads but enough to help me regulate my cycle to a 28 days cycle (10/14 days bleed) had a lap and dye procedure last Monday- tubes all clear and they burnt off some endo. Aftercare was pretty rubbish, I've now been bleeding 7 days and due on my period Thursday (11th) so just a bit confused is this my period already or is this natural after lap and dye. Also does anyone have any success stories from a lap and dye? I haven't got a follow up for 3 months now.

Sorry for waffling!
Thanks in advance Smile

AmyC86 · 09/08/2016 10:43

becky you are supposed to be extremely fertile following a lap and dye, however, not many people on here have had one before any medication was prescribed. I've had mine done in 2011- most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life. Although I only bled for about 2 days xx if your bleed goes on for much longer I'd get booked in with your GP, you may have a cut/tare.

And to highlight others names just put *'s either side of the name without gaps Grin

Beckygizmov1 · 09/08/2016 14:13

Thanks AmyC86 Grin

What medications have most people been prescribed is it clomid? That hasn't even been mentioned to me I heard its because my periods aren't regular and I have PCOS so not able to take it?

Cheers
X

YouBoggleMyMind · 09/08/2016 14:22

Clomid is often given to pcos ladies to make them ovulate. It's an estrogen blocker so makes your ovaries create more fsh so your ovaries actually produce a dominant follicle and release an egg. I've done 5 rounds of clomid, 3 without metformin, 2 with. Only the last two cycles showed anything happening. I did ovulate last cycle but no baby on this occasion. I go back for a consultant appointment tomorrow at the fertility clinic as id like to do more clomid. Especially as I did ovulate last time.
