No problem Sunshine, glad to help. No symptoms at all yet which is a little bit worrying. It doesn't seem real x

Its all so frustrating isn't it, I really hate the uncertainity of it all I would rather just know what the outcome of it all would be.

I had my FSH level re-tested and it's 11, think I should probably start with the IVF sooner rather than later. I'm going to try to speak to my boss tomorrow, will probably end up in tears, again!! x

Friendlycav · 06/09/2016 19:54

Please don't worry too much about your FSH level Sunshine. My result was 9 and then 17 and I completely freaked out. In hindsight I shouldn't have worried so much, especially as FSH varies so much from cycle to cycle.

I think it is a good idea to speak to your boss, stay strong and I wish you lots of luck xx

Its so hard isn't it but we have to keep trying, somehow we will get there. Flowers

I've spoken to my employer, I was crying before I even started, I think becasue she is the first person I have had to tell it just made it seem so real. She was really good and said we'll sort something, even if she has to help with telling a little lie to my line manager. Apparently she had her suspicions about it already.

Friendly, when is your scan? xx

So glad you told work Sunshine and sounds like they were understanding. Really think this is a positive step for you xx

I was so down before IVF but science really is amazing.

The Lister want me to go in for a scan at 6 weeks and 3 days which seems v v early to me and don't think they'll be able to see anything? Maybe it's just to check it's not ectopic?

Friendly, how far along are you now? Xx

Friendlycav · 07/09/2016 18:12

Only 5 weeks so I'm being very cautious. I don't have any symptoms so it doesn't seem real x

sunshinegirl12 · 08/09/2016 13:31

Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones who breezes through pregnancy without any horrible symptoms. Smile

Another quick question, my private appontment is next week when I'm CD10, do you think it's overly hopeful that I'll be able to start IVF this cycle, or do you think it's more realistic to expect to start next cycle? I assume if I was to start this cycle it would mean no DTD over the fertile period? x

Friendlycav · 08/09/2016 13:46

I hope so Sunshine! I have a few cramps today but nothing too bad.

I had my initial private consultation at a similar time in my cycle as you and I started that same cycle. I was prescribed the long day 21 protocol where you take deregulating drugs from cd 21 onwards. I was concerned about the fact we had still been actively trying and was worried that in the unlikely event I got pregnant naturally the deregulating drugs would harm the baby but the consultant wasn't too worried and said I could start that cycle. I'm excited for you to start Sunshine, let me know how your appointment goes xx

Friendlycav · 08/09/2016 15:09

I would definitely check with your consultant re DTD over your fertile window. For reference, I took a nasal spray called Suprecur for deregulating x

On a long protocol, you take deregulating drugs from cd 21 which basically shuts down your ovaries and stops them producing follicles. You will then get AF as usual (maybe a bit late) and then start the fertility injections from approx cd 5 of your next cycle which then artificially stimulates your ovaries to produce follicles (you are then scanned regularly to check how the fertility injections are working i.e. number and size of follicles and the dr may change the dose accordingly). I have to say that I found the whole IVF process surprisingly easy going, I had heard horror stories and am so glad I went through with it as I didn't get any symptoms other than a dry mouth every morning with the deregulating nasal spray! The injections weren't exactly pleasant but really not bad once you've got the first one out of he way, the thought of it is the worst part - you hardly feel it!

Keeping everything crossed for you x

sunshinegirl12 · 08/09/2016 17:29

Thanks Friendly, did you get the medication through your clinic? I'm so scared it won't work, I can't imagine the disappointment!! But our clinic do a 3 cycle package so think we will go with that, to soften the blow if it doesn't work 1st time x

Friendlycav · 08/09/2016 18:15

Hi Sunshine, I got my prescription from the clinic but my top tip is to get IVF medication from an ASDA pharmacy as I think they are the cheapest. I saved about £400 by getting mine from ASDA rather that Boots or an independent pharmacy x

Just catching up, seems there is a lot going on.

Friendly I wasn't one for having many symptoms early on so don't worry about it, they'll catch you up before you know it and you'll wonder why you ever wished for them!

Sunshine so excited for you to be trying IVF, I really have everything crossed that this is the one for you.

Mrs I admire your strength, I hope you get some answers soon and that things can go in a positive direction for you soon.

Keep strong ladies x

sunshinegirl12 · 12/09/2016 17:36

Friendly, hope you're ok, I'm afraid I have a couple more questions for you, sorry... so before you started IVF did you have to be tested for HIV, hepatitis etc. I've read alot of people mentioning about having these prior to starting IVF but nothing has been mentioned to me but I don't want it to cause a delay.
Also, what cycle day did you have your base line scan?

I'm also concerned that they may not be able to start me on CD21 as I usually only have a 23 day cycle anyway, would that even be enough time for anything to work. Suppose I'll find out on Thursday. Hmm

Mrsunsure, when is your appiointment?

Good to hear from you Mascara, hope you and your little man are doing well xx

Friendlycav · 12/09/2016 20:15

Hi Sunshine, I'm doing ok thanks just really tired.

Yes there was a long list of blood tests my clinic needed - both for myself and DH -including HIV, rubella etc. At my initial consultation appointment, I asked them to print off the list of tests I needed so that I could get them done on the NHS (saves a lot of money). My clinic let me have the prescription for the down regulating nasal spray without the tests results which gave me time to get all the tests done before starting the fertility injections but they checked all the results before giving giving me the next prescription - hope that makes sense. It took about a week for me to get the blood test results on the NHS.

I had my base line scan on cd 5 of the cycle after starting the nasal spray, so just as AF was ending. This is to check that your ovaries have effectively shut down and also that your lining is thin and has shed enough.

My cycle was usually only 24 days so I don't think that will effect them starting this cycle. I was still taking cyclogest at that point as I hadn't quite given up all hope of conceiving naturally but I got BFN and stopped taking it and AF arrived as usual a few days later. I've read that the nasal spray can prolong your cycle and delay AF - I see your point about whether there would be enough time for it to work with a short cycle so definitely something to check but I don't think a 23 day cycle is that unusual and I think it's to shut down the hormones at the start of the next cycle so you should be covered :)

Wishing you all the luck in the world, please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other qus xx

mascaraisamust · 12/09/2016 20:38

Wishing you all the luck too sunshine. Hope you're well friendly? Mrs I hope things are progressing for you too x

sunshinegirl12 · 12/09/2016 20:41

Thanks for the info Friendly, thats really helpful. I was going to ask you about the cyclogest actually, I have only used it for one cycle so far so was going to check it was ok to use prior to actually starting IVF or if it was something that had to be totally out of your system. I did want to try once more using it, just in case.

Hopefully I'll be able to get the bloods done on the NHS too then, although my surgery can be a bit funny if the request hasn't come from one of their GP's.

Is your scan next week? x

Friendlycav · 12/09/2016 21:00

So happy to help Sunshine. My consultant said it was fine to use cyclogest but I would definitely check with your clinic as they might have a different opinion. And maybe it depends on what down regulating medicine you are prescribed? Probably not advisable but I used cyclogest to prolong my cycle a bit so that timings for egg transfer would work out with my annual leave!

I'm feeling a little nervous as I've tested on a Clear Blue digi and it's still saying 2-3 weeks when it should definitely be saying 3+ by now. Trying not to worry and not going to waste my money with any more tests. I have a scan at my clinic this Friday (6w+3) which seems very very early but hopefully they'll be able to put my mind at rest.
