Im fine its something i just will accept Flowers

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 20/07/2016 20:50

Lois- sorry to hear your news, but you know the reasons why you have cancelled and trust your instincts.

Up the tree- the GP wants to take bloods on day 21 of my cycle but was being very elusive about whether the low levels of the SHBG were to do with PCOS or not until then. If you feel comfortable telling me- what treatment are you having because Dr Google is not being helpful here?!

Upthetree100 · 20/07/2016 20:52

Flowers for you lois

Also macca I don't know what it means or the implications or anything, was just told its low and that was that. I googled it and there was some mention of it being present in women with PCOS and it is something to do with testosterone control but my testosterone levels seem fine so not sure what it all means. Did the gp explain any further to you?

Upthetree100 · 20/07/2016 20:59

X-post there, I'm not having any treatment! This is something I've posted about before as I feel its a concern. What I've been told is I should lose enough weight to be referred to fertility clinic (they have a threshold) and also after i do lose weight the symptoms will disappear and its more than likely that I will conceive naturally apparantly. There's been no mention made of any sort of treatment for PCOS symptoms or infertility (ttc for 2 years)
I know that PCOS can't be treated but lots of women seem to be given treatments for the various symptoms.

I'm assuming the weight thing is an issue because I've rapidly gained huge amounts of weight and before this my periods were regular. However I have never had a bfp even when I was thin so Im at the point where I'm unsure about whether to push the for treatment and lose the weight and see what happens.how much more info have you been given?

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 20/07/2016 21:00

Not really. There was some muttering about me needing to take folic acid, maybe some medication (but no mention of what and also what for). Essentially it's wait and see but I'm no good at waiting! She basically said that I can get pregnant but maybe can't stay pregnant easily but that I might not be ovulating regularly. Maybe some metformin might help? I'm so confused by this- it's a bit daunting tbh.

Upthetree100 · 20/07/2016 21:00

*or lose the weight

Upthetree100 · 20/07/2016 21:10

Try pregnacare conception which is the ttc multivitamin I was specifically recommended this by my gp, and folic acid is helpful to have and recommended for any woman ttc.
Although after a few cycles of bfn's I tend to lapse with my vitamin taking habits so should maybe take my own advice Grin
It's encouraging to see that gp is taking things seriously and sending you for further tests, I don't know much about metformin but have heard about it from here, that and clomid seem to be popular ovulation stimulants.
Don't let it get you down Macca! Bfp's for us all! Flowers

danigrace · 22/07/2016 18:49

Hi girls
Maca have you seen your doc yet? How are you getting on? I was told levels were low but nothing 'means anything' unless 2 sets are compared against each other at certain times in cycle and seeing as I'm not having a cycle that's pretty impossible!! Like Tree I take Pregnacare Conception

Lyla omg you're making me starving even though I've already had dinner!! haha. I love olives, celery & fancy houmouses (sp?), pesto, roast root veg with red onions... druels

Lois ((big hugs)) Flowers

Tree Could you do both?

Well still no AF here (& no BFP either), was hoping something might happen bc of the ewcm I had but apparently not...

LylaB14 · 25/07/2016 14:45

Lois big hugs to you and I hope you get to take all the time you need and concentrate on feeling better. Have you got any holidays booked? Flowers

macca how are you getting on? I've been taking the pregna care before conception for over a year, I have no idea if it works or not but its cost me a fortune lol! It does contain all the essential vitamins and folic acid though. You may need progesterone, which is what they give to people in early pregnancy when they have low amounts which can lead to miscarriage. Have they checked to see if you are ovulating?xx

tree Do they think there's a reason why you suddenly gained weight? Have they checked your thyroid etc? Maybe try to lose the weight anyway and see if things improve and your cycles go back to normal but also push for treatment or at least some tests to see if you have pcos?xx

dani that all sounds so lovely, I'll be round for dinner haha!
I hope you either get af soon or even better your bfp! Have you had any symptoms for either? Are your cycles usually regular?xx

danigrace · 25/07/2016 16:30

Lyla I came off my pill in Oct and had a natural period 32 days later, next cycle was 41 days, then 42 days (if you count 5 days of just spotting), then 38 days, then poof nothing at all since the end of March... which I just worked out as 123 days since the start of my LMP Hmm
What are yours like?

LylaB14 · 26/07/2016 17:06

dani That seems strange that you haven't had one now for so long, But I guess that's what pcos does to us ☹️ I came off the pill at the end of last March and got my first period in May, I then conceived but had an early miscarriage. I didn't get a period then until the end of August, and then I didn't get anything and took provera to bring on a period in December so I could take clomid. I didn't ovulate on 50mg so had to take 100mg. On the clomid my cycles were exactly 31 days. I've been off the clomid for 2 months (while we waited for my hubbys sa) and my cycles have been 29 days and 34. I'm starting the clomid again as soon as I get af so fingers crossed it works again! It's so annoying our cycles are all over the place. I hope yours comes soon xx

danigrace · 26/07/2016 18:22

Thanks Lyla. So I take it your DH's sa results were okay? How many cycles of clomid did you have? Fingers crossed for your BFP very soon!

LylaB14 · 28/07/2016 08:28

dani thanks hun, and fingers crossed for yours too!
I've done 4 cycles on 100mg. But now they have removed the endometriosis so fingers crossed. Yep sa result was way better this time and deemed normal Smile so a massive relief. Just hope they stay that way! Have you had your DH tested?xx

danigrace · 28/07/2016 13:02

Fingers crossed for you!!
Yes we get DH's sa results from the GP tomorrow.
Came on my period this morning! First time since March!!! Very pleased Grin

Daisy111 · 28/07/2016 13:19

Hello ladies
I hope you don't mind if I join?

Greetings to all, and commiserations to those struggling.

I am 31 and TTC #1, cycle 2.

I just wondered if anybody had a similar experience to me? I came off the pill two years ago, and immediately went back to normal cycles. I started having night sweats about six months ago, and went to the doctor. I had a blood test which diagnosed me with fairly mild PCOS) I was surprised, as I don't really have any symptoms of it. (I hope not insensitive to say so when clearly it's causing some of you ladies trouble).

Basically, I'm a bit confused as to how this is likely to affect our chances of conceiving. I wondered if anyone has a similar situation and can shed any light?! The doctor has been pretty vague, and Google scares me!

I am assuming I'm ovulating, but maybe I'm wrong. I've been charting for about 6 weeks now, trying to work it out, but not 100% sure yet...

LylaB14 · 28/07/2016 13:51

dani Oh yayy that's great news Smile
Good luck for tomorrow, I'll have my fingers crossed for you!xx

Hi Daisy,
I never had any symptoms (not overweight or excess hair) the only thing I had was irregular cycles. If you are having cycles every month, it doesn't necessarily mean you are ovulating. Have you tried using Opk's? The only way to check for certain that you have ovulated would be a blood test, roughly on day 21 of your cycle (depends how long your cycles are).
The main reason it can affect you conceiving is if your not ovulating, so getting a test to check will give you a better idea.
Try not to worry though, many people with pcos do conceive and there are plenty of positive posts on here xx

Daisy111 · 28/07/2016 14:23

Thanks Lyla

I did try OPKs last month, and I don't think I did it regularly enough, but it seemed to give me a surge at around the right time. Also had what I think is ovulation pain. Anyway, I will continue charting and see what happens. Useful to know about the blood test, thanks! I will look into that if I'm still not sure in a few cycles' time.

LylaB14 · 28/07/2016 18:24

daisy That seems really positive that you got a positive opks at around ovulation time and the pain Smile Sometimes you can ovulate every other month, or every few months so keep charting and testing. Good luck!xx

Nurse15 · 28/07/2016 18:28

Hi everyone! Been off here for a bit as nothing really happening and just been enjoying (too many!) days out and cocktail nights lol!! Some new faces I haven't seen before so hello :) I should introduce myself again I think - I'm 27 and hubby is 30 this year, ttc with pcos and a uterine septum that I need removed but will take around 3 years to wait on the procedure on the NHS! I am on metformin and this has given my cycles between 30 - 40 days. I'm using ovusense which I bought last month to track ovulation :)

Daisy111 · 28/07/2016 18:58

Thanks Lyla, and good luck to you too!

danigrace · 28/07/2016 20:53

Welcome Daisy, could you ask your GP to organise bloods to confirm you're ovulating?

Hi Nurse - gosh 3 years?! That's frustrating! I take it there's nothing that can be done to reduce the wait? That's great the metformin is helping your cycle.

Will let you know how we get on in the morning! Hope you all have a nice evening xx

Daisy111 · 28/07/2016 21:15

Hi Dani, yes, I definitely will if nothing's happened in a few months. I'm only on cycle 2 of ttc, so will try to be patient and give it a while. Must try not to become a crazy lady in the meantime... fat chance! Grin

Also considering a CBFM, but I know they don't always work that well with PCOS. Anybody tried it?

Nurse, I don't really know anything about that, but would it be remotely affordable to go private and skip the wait? 3 years is crazy.

LylaB14 · 31/07/2016 08:55

dani how did it go on Friday? I hope everything's ok xx

daisy what's a CBFM? xx

Nurse im not sure what a uterine septum is but 3 years wait seems crazy! Could you try being referred to another hospital? How long have you been trying for? That's great the metformin is regulating your cycles. How long have you been taking it for?
Was the ovusense expensive? I've heard quite a few people mention it, would love to know how you get on with it xx

Hope your all having a lovely weekend xx

Nurse15 · 31/07/2016 09:16

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses! Unfortunately only one doctor in NI does the surgery and so I have no other choice than to wait for him. Private would cost me around 4500 pounds so not really and option. Very annoying!!

LittleMissSnowShine · 31/07/2016 19:33

Hi Everyone

I'm sorry to be gatecrashing your thread and I hope it's ok to join?

I'm ttc DC 3. I have two DS, who will be 6 and 3 next month. I came off the mini pill just before Christmas to start ttc and my cycles and everything have just been a mess since then. No periods at all in Jan / Feb / March and then when I least expected it I got pg in April, but miscarried only a couple of weeks in.

I spent 3 weeks bleeding really heavily earlier this month, and I ended up having to pay to go private to go to see a gynaecologist because the waiting list was 9 flipping months and my GP was really concerned. Anyway now I am taking 3 weeks of provera twice a day to try and regulate things for me, and hoping to continue ttc when that finishes in about a week from now. Consultant is giving me an NHS appointment for a follow up so I should be back there in around October time to possibly try Clomid if I don't get pregnant in the meantime.

I've had three miscarriages along the way, but also my two DCs who were conceived without assistance. I have had real problems losing any weight since DC 2 was born nearly 3 years ago and I have just started the paleo diet this weekend.

And that is all there really is to say about me! Sorry it's a bit long-winded...

I see you guys are mostly using WhatsApp these days to chat but if anyone is still around just wanted to pop on and say hello! Smile
