I have an Ergo, it's great for doing the school run as it is much easier to carry DD2 than faff around with the buggy.

We got a monitor for DD1 but don't use it. Even though I'm partially deaf I have had no problem hearing the girls crying

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 15:55

Keep sadly you have just described how my life was. We decided to have a baby and thought an autumn baby would give it a head start at school and got pregnant that cycle. We then decided when my period returned the following November that as ds1 was born in November, to wait until the December to ttc so that ds2 wouldn't be born until September at the earliest as we didn't want an August baby. We got pregnant first time again and so he was indeed a September baby. It just all was so simple. Then we hit the problems with number 3. 10 losses down and I wouldn't care when it was born now..

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 16:02

Cross posts. Imps re Ergos, we have one and it's great and highly recommend them, but be careful about buying second hand as there are so many fakes online.

I bought mine from one of their appointed sellers, an American woman who was living near Peterborough, I think it was possibly in Eye. She was really helpful and demonstrated it and I think it was about £80 from memory.

We have a video monitor and it is worth every penny, saves going into their rooms and disturbing them, and even now they are getting older we wouldn't be without it, we replaced it a few months ago when our old one broke. Ds2 regulate falls out of bed and ds1 is often sick in the night or needs tucking back in so it's handy to see on the monitor what is happening behind closed doors. And if they get out of bed to tell them to get back in bed via the monitor and to see in the morning if they are awake or not as when ds2 wakes he will happily lie there quietly for ages, but if he does that his nappy ends up leaking as he will do a morning wee, whereas if we go in just after he wakes, we can avoid the leak and having to wash his bedding!!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 16:06

For one baby, I found having a vox mode was essential. Instead of you hearing every single snuffle or grunt or snore, the noise only makes a sound through the monitor if the noise hits a certain level. We originally bought a cheap sound only monitor and I just couldn't switch off from the noise and sleep, so we bought the video one with vox and sleep was much better! We would often go out into the garden with the monitor when they were having naps, and we could check they were ok without having to be in the house.

keepitgoing · 23/06/2016 16:21

Yes I agree a video monitor is v useful

imps can't you just use tgenirmal cot in your room from the start, or is there no space? I think I will try tethering the cot bed to mine this time to make a cosleeper. Settling newborns in Moses baskets away from you seems to be v difficult for most babies, fair enough, they've just been born!

Ah loopy.. There are so many mysteries in all this. I still find it really frustrating I don't know WHY I can't conceive alone. You must feel the same. Though yours is quite a different experience to most of us, I think we probably understand better than most. Plus you have your two boys, whatever happens

keepitgoing · 23/06/2016 16:21

*The normal cot

keepitgoing · 23/06/2016 16:46

Ooh I love the look of the ergo...

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 16:53

The ergo was so comfy keep. I loved it. Alexander fell asleep in it a lot and I'd just lean forward over our bed and unclip it and leave him and the ergo on the bed until whenever he woke up. Imps re Moses baskets, I found them to be a waste of money. DH is about 6'2" and by 10 weeks Ds1 was too big for the Moses basket and wasn't sleeping well as he kept hitting the sides. We then bought a glider crib from mothercare which he was ok in until 5 months. With ds2 we didn't use the Moses basket in our room, just went straight to using the glider, both of them liked the movement of it. But even so ds2 was even bigger and stronger than ds1 so by 4 months we had to move him to a normal cot as he'd almost tipped the glider over a couple of times!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 16:55

Here is ds2 after I'd plonked him and the ergo on the bed one day. Wouldn't work on an older baby with the risk of rolling off the bed but he was immobile at this age!!

Imps9 · 23/06/2016 20:58

That's a good tip re the Ergo, thanks Loops. And how cute is that photo of DS2??!

The only space we'd have for the proper cot in our bedroom is next to the radiator which I want to avoid. I think the travel cot we're being given is smaller - that might work.

OP posts:
Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 21:17

Imps I wouldn't use a travel cot for a newborn, when they are asleep you want to transfer them to bed as gently as possible and even then they might wake up again. It's very hard to plonk a baby gently into a travel cot, although I'm short so even harder for me. I'd recommend something that moves so you can rock them to sleep. Moses and glider cribs aren't too much money, although as I said the Moses basket didn't last ours for long, or there are la de dah things like hammocks and nest type things. Unless you have a baby who doesn't need rocking, have heard there are some babies who lie on co sleeper ones fixed to the parents bed which don't move at all, but both mine needed rocking

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 23/06/2016 21:26

Here you go, this is where I bought my ergo from. We went when Alexander was a few weeks old as I'd only just found out about her.

Thanks Loops. Good advice re: travel cot. Am sure we'll figure something out!

For me I've just never really thought travel cots are that comfy, th9ugh imagine you could just buy a proper mattress

I'm in shock over the referendum result :( oh uk, what you have done??

Pastamancer · 24/06/2016 09:00

That's the same place I got my Ergo Loopy. Attached a picture of DD1 at 15 months in the Ergo

A question for you crafty people. I have decided to learn how to crochet and have been out today and bought a hook and a cheap ball of wool. I see the terms wool and yarn used, what is the difference?

BeedlesPineNeedles · 25/06/2016 08:28

loopy fab news about the appointment, not too long to wait either. Is it next Friday you'll hear about how well you did in the interview?

I've been looking at this for the early days. But wondering whether we need to turn our bedroom around so the baby isn't too close to the radiator, or maybe swap sides on the bed Shock

Also writing my shopping list for my trip to England in a few weeks, I might start another thread about small stuff I need to buy that will be cheaper in England (that's pretty much everything! )

Imps9 · 25/06/2016 11:50

Pasta, wool is wool and yarn can be anything - cotton, synthetic fibres, a wool-mix etc. Am delighted that you've decided to learn to crochet! It is fab.

I will have a look at your link Beedles...

Looks good Beedles although knowing me I'd end up getting into it by mistake when going for a wee in the night or something!

Have very nearly finished Barry-Baxter's 4th blanket...have already started on the fifth!

imps that's fabulous! A lot of blankets... Can you do cardigans? ;)

beedle that's basically what I'm planning but just strapping our cot bed to our bed

Lovely day!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 26/06/2016 06:26

Beedles I didn't get the job, despite him having a wife that only works 2 days a week herself, he wouldn't consider me because of my need for flexible hours (I'd said I could look to move ds2 swimming class to a weekend one if needed, which would mean I could work approx 9.15-5.45 4 days a week from home/client visits and 10.05-4.45 on the office day as I can't do anything more that day because I still have to do school/nursery drop offs/pick ups and I live 50 minutes from their office. Hypocritical wanker.

8 dpo and got the crazy dreams back, waking before 5am for a week is back, uncomfortable to lie on tummy is back, constant pressure/aching/swollen feeling, and fell asleep early to the TV the last couple of nights. No point testing for a few days though as I never have enough hcg until 11-12 dpo.

Re being close to radiator, our glider crib was parallel to our radiator at the old house for both ds's. Approx 2 foot between them at most? Boys never overheated, just dressed them appropriately, am a big fan of the merino kids sleeping bags. Babies just can't overheat in them and sleep really well as they can't kick it off like they do with blankets so they stay snuggly warm and don't wake,
they are great for middle of the night nappy changes and can be used in the car as they have a slit in them for the car seat straps.

Beedles no idea what's available there but gripe water and Ashton and parsons teething powders are miracle workers. And lansinoh cream and their breast pads if you plan to breast feed. So soft and thin so less obvious under tops but very absorbant and they have enough sticky on the backs that they do stay in place in your bra, unlike many others I tried, which makes it much easier to undo your bra and whip a boob out one handed and then put it back and do it up again, rather than having to try and fight a pad that's moved one handed!

keepitgoing · 26/06/2016 12:29

Oh loopy what a dick. I'm sorry. Sounds like sth is going on, really hoping this is the one

I never needed breast pads so wouldn't buy loads as not everyone needs them

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 26/06/2016 16:32

You were lucky keep, mine leaked all the time, and whenever I fed them from one side the other side would pour out too. As soon as I got out of the shower they would spray everywhere!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/06/2016 06:30

Sorry to hear that loopy what an idiot. Those hours hardly sound part-time to me. One of my colleagues left earlier this year because my boss decided our previously flexible hours actually meant we could start at 8am +/- 1 hour and finish at 16:30 +/- 1 hour. So we lost a nice guy who had a few years experience, who will finally be replaced in September by a new graduate. So come October when I go on Maternity leave, there'll be the following people doing the same as me: 1 new graduate, 1 person with 1year experience, 1 with about 4 years experience and 1 with loads of experince but who is really resistant to change.

imps I like the blanket, you're so clever.

Imps9 · 27/06/2016 09:33

Loops what an arse. Bet he'd be a nightmare to work with. Sounds like good symptoms. Are you on low dose aspirin?

Hope you all had nice weekends. Mine was busy, but lovely. Went for a run yesterday - it was only 2.6km but I ache like buggery today. Ridiculous.

Who's got the next scan/MW appt coming up? I've got a consultant appt on Thursday - not entirely sure what to expect with that one. I daresay it's just a formality and won't be particularly exciting.
