Why are you still under consultant imps? I'm impressed at your run

I saw mw on Friday, all was good. Baby very wriggly and kicking the Doppler away. Need to book the whooping cough vaccination, new guidance is at 20-32 weeks, previously was later.

Had a lovely weekend with friends and family staying. Have decided to buy a super king bed Grin

cartoontrickster · 27/06/2016 09:55

Shame about the job loopy but he does sound an arse!
I saw the consultant at the local hospital on Fri, pretty pointless as I knew it would be. I hadn't had a scan there yet so had to show her the details of my last private one otherwise we would 've just been sent away. She decided yes N was a small baby even for me and so I will have growth scans towards the end to keep an eye on this one. She didn't seem overly bothered about the Mc's as I've now proven I can carry a baby . She pulled lots of faces when I told her all the meds I was on! They really don't like that approach.
My nuchal is on Wed morning and then I'm at Epsom in the afternoon for another scan and drip.
Oh gap have an extra 25% off their sale woman's and maternity clothes if that's any use to anyone.

Imps9 · 27/06/2016 10:02

It's because of the MC and chems - I did say to the MW that I didn't think the chems really counted, but she said that they did and because that gave a grand total of 3 losses (excluding ectopic which really doesn't count) I'd be consultant led. It does seem a little pointless to me, but I am obviously not an authority on it!

Loops have been looking at merino sleeping bags - did you get a newborn one or just go straight to 0-2 years!

That was supposed to be a ? rather than a !

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/06/2016 11:36

Isn't it a bit late to be seeing a Consultant about the mc imps? Surely if they thought there was an issue they should have seen you ASAP.

I also have a Consultant appointment, but not for Another 10 weeks or so. absolutely no idea why, my midwife didn't say anything I just got a letter last week. I need to ring my midwife and find out what its all about (or wait about 4 weeks until I see her next)

Imps9 · 27/06/2016 11:50

This is more for assessing birth risks and strategy in light of previous losses rather than investigating the causes Beedles... I think.

I wonder what your consultant appt is for so late in the day! You'll be 31 weeks by then won't you?

OP posts:
keepitgoing · 27/06/2016 12:26

Again it'll most likely be about the birth I'd think, ie if they'd want to induce at edd, etc. maybe it's because you're 40

Jaggythistle · 27/06/2016 13:02

Just spotted you all on active conversations and tried to have a catch up.

Best brooking wishes to all. FlowersCake

My tiny brooking babyjaggy3 is now a tiny toddling 1 year old. Too fast!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 27/06/2016 21:21

Imps re the sleeping bags, the newborn ones didn't exist when I had ds1, so we bought the 0-2 year old ones. They were sold back then as newborn-2. They have a press stud under each arm hole so that when a baby is small you can reduce the arm hole size so there is no chance of a small baby sliding down and suffocating (not that small baby's can move like that anyhow!) and we used to fold the excess length underneath their legs, they had plenty of space in them to kick their legs still. They were doing a referral discount, if they are still doing it then I could get you a code if you decide you want to buy any. I'd have to check as it's been a while since I looked. We found them a great long term value option. One size fits for 2 years of growth and as long as you aren't a skin Flint with your central heating in winter, they are suitable for using all year round. The big alternative at the time was gro bags, which came in loads of different age sizes and different tog ratings for summer and winter. The merino seemed an easier way, buy once (well more than once as bought more than one so covered for washing and wearing) and not have to buy again until they were 2. And we reused them all for ds2.

Re being consultant led Imps, unless Cambridgeshire has altered its policy, it would mean you wouldn't be allowed to use a birthing centre and they wouldn't be keen on a home birth. They might want to monitor your labour too. If you can get the consultant to sign you back to midwife care then you will have full freedom of your birth preferences. (Unless it has altered in the last few years!)

No I'm not on aspirin, both my old NHS consultant and new consultant, and the prof's at Coventry all are against aspirin and say it's not safe. No idea if they are right as know plenty who have taken it and been fine!! I'm meant to be on clexane from bfp and progesterone from bfp although I'm increasingly scared that progesterone might be causing the losses, but the doctors all seem to think that's unlikely, although the prof's at Coventry do think for some people if they take it from 7dpo (their normal protocol) that it can have a contraceptive effect and prevent proper implantation. So who knows. I'm sat here now and cramps galore and constant pressure, will be 10dpo tomorrow which wouldn't be worth using a frer yet, but I've got a pack of the new clear blue early ones that might possibly detect enough hcg tomorrow if I've read it properly. So might poas tomorrow, but still might be too early on those!! As imps got a definite bfp on frer which I never do, so I'm not necessarily going to get a bfp on the first day that I think I can use this new test!

Imps9 · 27/06/2016 21:27

Thanks Loops for all that info. I think you're right about Cambs policy re: being consultant led. I'm really not so bothered about where/how Barry-Baxter is born but if I'm not a big risk it would seem sensible to ask to go back to MW-leg care.

I think I will buy a 0-2 sleeping bag (they're on offer at the mo) - if it's too big I can get a newborn one.

Re: progesterone, BH did think about whether I needed it at all with this pregnancy given that my natural progesterone levels were fine and it was a natural ovulation. Maybe try without this time?

Oh, just saw your message Jagster!! Hello lovely Brooker - lovely to see you! Hope all is well with the Jaggy clan. How time flies.

OP posts:
Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 06:16

So for me it seems the new clearblue are no more sensitive than the frer as no hint of a line on it this morning. So i now know there is no point wasting any tests until 11 dpo at the earliest as I'm just not one for pumping out the hcg before then.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 06:18

Oh and imps, just read your last post, I'll log on in a bit and see if they are still doing the discount, from memory I think it was something like £15 off any purchases

BeedlesPineNeedles · 28/06/2016 06:36

jaggy Lovely of you to drop by and say hello!

I'm not sure there's such a difference here between mw-led and Consultant-led. Pretty much everyone gives birth in hospital, I Think if you're low risk you can give birth in one hospital but the main one is closer to us and doesn't involve driving through Town so I'd rather give birth there anyway!

I quite like the idea of the merino sleeping bags but I'm worried we'd shove it in a 60deg wash and then tumble dry it by mistake, giving us a doll sized sleeping bag!

But talking of discounts John Lewis have a sale on and I have ordered a load of unisex-ish sleepsuits. Well they're unisex enough for me anyway. My first purchase for the baby :o

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 06:41

Just checked Imps, they are still doing the extra discount but the meanies are ending the discount scheme from the 16th July so if you send me your email address I can get you the discount but you need to make sure you've ordered by then.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 06:46

Well done on the sleepsuits beedle!

The sleeping bags are machine washable but definitely not 60 degrees lol, just the gentle wool/hand wash program, and they used to advertise them as being fine to dry in your tumble drier on the low setting but I think so many people ignored the instructions and dried them on the hotter setting which does slightly shrink them so now I think they say you shouldn't tumble dry them at all. We always used the drier, and they were fine aside from one day when DH was tired and didn't alter the drier to the low setting, so we have one bag that's a little smaller than the others, only noticeable as they get close to 2 and you realise there isn't as much leg room in that one lol.

BeedlesPineNeedles · 28/06/2016 07:05

loopy is that discount on top of the sale discount? Can I send you my email address too?

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 07:42

As far as I know it's on top, I know it was a few months back when I last did one for someone else.

Imps9 · 28/06/2016 07:48

Thanks Loops - have sent a test message to make sure it's you before sending my email address!

Do your sleeping bags have a hole for the car seat straps?

Sorry about the BFN btw - it was just the wrong pee stick you used.

OP posts:
BeedlesPineNeedles · 28/06/2016 08:09

sorry about the BFN loopy I missed that post earlier. Are the new Cb tests supposed to be as sensitive as FRER?

Imps9 · 28/06/2016 09:19

Ooooh which JL sleepsuits did you buy Beedles?

OP posts:
BeedlesPineNeedles · 28/06/2016 11:18

imps
this
this
this
this
and this
in a variety of newborn and 0-3 months. I decided diggers and fire trucks were ok for Girls and slightly frilly necklines are ok for boys!

loopy thanks for the discount. I had actually looked at bambino merino this morning They seem to be a bit cheaper so I will have a proper look this evening

keepitgoing · 28/06/2016 12:57

Lovely sleepauits beedle and good bargain hunting!

I think the merino sleeping bags are a good idea. We bought a variety of normal ones, as loopy says you get diff sizes and togs. They've lasted variably, some of the zips are a bit broken, so may be better to shell out more initially. Personally I wouldn't be too bothered about the car seat straps as you can just use blankets then - imps has loads

We have ordered a super king bed!!! Very excited to get it in 2 weeks

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 16:02

Yes they have slits that the car seat lock goes through, very handy! We often put them in their sleeping bags put them in the car and headed home and transferring them to their beds was easy as you didn't have to do much to disturb them, just undo the straps and pop them through the slit and then lift them out and plonk them in bed.

I'd love a bed that big keep!

The new clearblue are supposedly more sensitive than frer according to their blurb as they reckon they are the most sensitive, however I'm not convinced. Have heard mixed reviews and on reading the leaflet this morning, it says they are 10 thingy. Didn't I hear that frer are believed to have shown a second line for about 7?

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/06/2016 16:06

Keep re zips, we have only had one zip break on a merino kids one, about 12 months after it was bought and we contacted them to say not happy as the zips should last at least 2 years if it's aimed at being used from 0-2 and they didn't quibble at all and just sent us a brand new one. I never recommend things unless I'm extremely happy with them and I really can't fault them.
