Removal of coil, ovulation and conceiving

Hi MNers,
I'm new on here and myself and OH are in early stages of trying for a baby.
He has two children from a previous relationship, I have none.
I had my coil removed last week (a week today) and I've had a variety of answers when I've asked how long it generally takes for my cycle to come back. I have ovulation sticks but as expected only a week in nothing as of yet. Can anyone share their experiences with me please?
Thanks xx
Grin

I wasn't told anything; I just booked the appointment with the receptions at my Drs surgery! We haven't DTD for over a week but plan to start TTC straight away. DH would probably prefer to wait a cycle but I'm keen to get started; and he's never one to turn down sex! 😂

What are your plans?

Jod1985 · 16/03/2016 22:35

I was told best to not DTD as sperm can last inside and if I was to ovulate within a few days there is a chance I could get PG straight away. After reading the above though I'm thinking best not. I think I'm ovulating now. Been cramping for a few days. I really feel Pg already!

OP I had my second Mirena in for 7 years (high risk I know!). I had it removed and was pregnant two months later (now my 20 month old DS).

I too passed out having both my coils put in, with body flying into spasm from pain and shock. I found the removal of both coils a total non event. No idea what 'clipping' of cervix means, but my gynae just used speculum to open things up, and then got a hold of the strings. I then took a big breath in and I think he pulled the coil out as I breathed out. It was a total non-event and about 1% of the pain I recall with insertion.

When I had a third coil out in for a short while after first pregnancy he applied some local anaesthetic to my cervix and it was much much more manageable.

Interestingly my periods have remained extremely short and light since Mirena removal but had no trouble with implantation and retaining my pregnancy with my son. Always worries me that my lining wouldn't be good enough for that reason.

Waiting in Drs. SHITTING MY PANTS

Jod1985 · 17/03/2016 11:53

How did you get on mammabear?

Mammabear31 · 17/03/2016 12:10

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I imagined, of course.....took a while to find my cervix but once she had it was out in seconds. Felt an uncomfortable tug as it came out but otherwise not painful at all. Waiting on the bleeding starting but if I still have nothing tonight DH is on a promise!

Jod1985 · 17/03/2016 14:02

Phew! That's great news. Hope mine is as straightforward. My appointment is next Wednesday afternoon

Fluffy24 · 17/03/2016 15:37

LH it's when they use forceps to clip (basically pinch hold of) the cervix so they can straighten it a bit too put the coil in - in my experience it stung like buggery and I'm hoping that they don't need to do that on removal!

MrsRolly · 17/03/2016 15:56

I had mine out in June then pregnant in the October took 6 weeks for my first period then the following were like clockwork. We weren't super actively trying either. Did not enjoy having periods again! Will be getting my coil back in after this one is born in July. But my best friend had hers out and was pregnant within the month. Good Luck to all TTC

LHReturns · 17/03/2016 18:41

Fluffy that sounds awful!!!!! I feel lightheaded just thinking about that! Hats off to you!!

GrimmauldPlace · 17/03/2016 19:16

I had the mirena in for 3 years, no periods the whole way through. I conceived less than a month after having it out and before I'd even had a period. I also have PCOS so was advised it would probably take a while to fall pregnant after removal. Obviously not! Good luck Smile

Mammabear31 · 17/03/2016 19:38

I was expecting the bleeding to start straight away. Nearly 12 hours after removal and I'm still waiting!

kpreenien · 17/03/2016 19:48

Mammabear, I had mine out two weeks ago today and not bleeding, tiny bit of spotting day two/three after but nothing like I was expecting. Are you going TTC straight away or wait for your period? X

We're starting to TTC straight away I think, if I wait for a period I might go mad - have had to wait long enough to get the damn coil out I've lost my patience!

kpreenien · 17/03/2016 21:11

Us too, good luck TTC! Maybe we might both has Christmas babies!! Haha

I can't wait now until Wednesday to get mine out! I haven't obeyed the 1 week before rule Blush

This will be my third baby and I'm as excited as the first time!

Mammabear31 · 18/03/2016 12:36

I'm fine thanks Jod 😊 DTD last night (sorry TMI!) no pain or bleeding. We are good to go!

I hope Wednesday comes around quick for you, this will be baby 2 and I'm just as excited as well!

Mammabear31 · 18/03/2016 12:37

Mammabear31 · 20/03/2016 10:34

No Christmas baby for me; starting bleeding this morning. I forgot how horrid the inconvenience of periods are!!!

Mammabear31 · 22/03/2016 17:52

Good luck for tomorrow Jod! Will be thinking of you x

Jod1985 · 22/03/2016 18:02

Thanks mammabear, I'm really nervous!! It's in the afternoon.

Mammabear31 · 22/03/2016 20:53

I was too, but unnecessarily it turned out - it was totally painless (albeit undignified!) and I was in and out within 10 mins :)

Totally get why you're nervous though Flowers

Jod1985 · 22/03/2016 21:08

I keep thinking mine will be embedded. I still can't find the strings Blush

Jod1985 · 22/03/2016 21:10

What have your symptoms been since getting it removed?
