TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

So sorry to hear about that, you'll get there eventually, it took me 5 years after my ectopic, involved several little operations as I had yucky tubes, but 9 months after my reconstructive surgery I got pregnant and now have a gorgeous little 9-month old dd. I thought I would never have kids! She's a true little miracle. As I'm 36 now we want to TTC again asap, so fingers crossed and a big hug to you from me!! Btw, my gp says it generally takes about 9 months on average for women my age to conceive

LulaMae · 07/03/2007 01:11

Sorry, it wasn't 5 years, but 4 years. 3 months will be over before you know it, please just take it easy and pamper yourself in those 3 months, your body needs to recover. I didn' feel like sex anyway until about 3 months after my ectopic, mind you I had surgery and felt like shit. You know, the reason I got pregnant after all that time might have been down to taking someone's advice and standing on my head after sex, there's a tip for you!

tbh think ill wait til weve seen the specialist. 3m just feels too long! my malteser was so wanted and it makes it harder that it held on past my other lost beans, just in the wrong place

cedar12 · 07/03/2007 08:37

Sparkley congratulations great news.
Pe- How funny we have got the same date for hsg. I live southampton so about as far south as you can get.

lissielou · 07/03/2007 11:55

well just spoken to infertility nurse coz the gynae ward made another appointment for me but not with specialist and she was lovely!! said that the gynae ward dont look far enough back or would have referred me straight away, they wont do any big tests on the 21st and if my period hasnt come by then, they'll kick start it for me!

then spoke to gynae ward coz havent recieved letter re 2nd op (ffor major internal bleeding, bladder finding etc) and she tried to fob me off! saying its not policy to send copies of letters to patients (got copy of the 1st letter re ep) and i dont really need it! bitch! but i argued her down. am furious now!

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 19:04

I spoke to the EPU today and they still won't see me till 6 weeks, not even to check my HCG levels. I have an appointment with the GP on the 12th.

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 19:05

and they will go by my period date, not from when I ovulated, which was early this month. So they are saying I am 4 1/2 weeks now.

TheDudAvocado · 08/03/2007 19:08

that is the policy in a lot of places now SKG. it's a pisser though. you know that if you were in pain then they would probably scan you sooner...

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 19:09

but we know that ain't true, don't we??

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 19:10

can my GP request HCG levels checks??

TheDudAvocado · 08/03/2007 19:32

yeah, well, we know it ain't true. they don't.

don't know if your GP can, tbh. you could try, of course. i really think you had shite care at your last hospital for the ep, are you back at the same one?

lissielou · 08/03/2007 19:34

agree, you should see your gp and push for bloods asap!

JillJ72 · 08/03/2007 19:38

You can push for bloods, but the monitoring can bring its own stress... but it's a case of knowing rather than not knowing with pg after EP. Congratulations on your BFP and I hope your pg journey goes smoothly.

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 21:00

I have to be seen at the first hospital I went to with the EP, as the other doesn't have a EPU, but as soon as I have had the scan I will be moving to the other hospital for my care.

AitchYouBerk · 08/03/2007 21:31

grim. they were rubbish, as i recall. and so they are proving to be again. a tense week ahead for you, SKG. (unless you tell them you've had bleeding or pain...)

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 21:40

Thing is, they can't see anything before 6 weeks, I know that, but I just want my HCG levels checked, I get the feeling they are high this time, as I feel so crap...

AitchYouBerk · 08/03/2007 21:45

yer, well, that's not true about not being able to see anything as it happens. they maybe wouldn't be able to rule it out, let's say. fingers are loyally crossed, SKG, and will remain so until i hear the good news.

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 21:50

I'm going to adjust my late period date by a few days. My LMP was on the 5th but I ovulated 11 days later, so I am going to say that my LMP was on the 1st Feb, which means that I will be able to get a scan next friday.

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 21:50

late=last

missnatalie · 08/03/2007 22:02

Congratulations SGK. I had a scan at 4w 6d and they were ablt to see the sac in the right place. Of course it was empty as it was still early. Ive been back today at 6w 6d and we saw a strong heartbeat. Scan says im 6w 4d. The only reason i had a scan at 4w was because i was getting mild pains on my left side. At first they refused to scan me but dr told me to tell them that i wasnt sure of my dates. In the end i got my scan.

Got my fingers crossed for you hun and i hope that your beanie has made it to the righ spot (which im sure he/she has).

Natalie x

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 22:04

oooooo congratulations Missnatalie, must have missed your announcement I know I ovulated early this month, so I will adjust my period date. So far no pain or bleeding.

SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 22:08

I am getting annoyed though, when I phoned the EPU and the doctors they both said 'ok you had a miscarriage in jan' after I told them it was a collasped EP, does it not count because I didn't need surgery or meds..?? grrr. I am still at risk of it happening again...

AitchYouBerk · 08/03/2007 22:11

Miss NATALIE!!

congratulations!!

and deffo don't let them away with that... the fact you had an ep in your tube does mean you ar at a higher risk, unfortunately.

missnatalie · 08/03/2007 22:18

Your EPU and Docs sound like complete idiots (sorry). They seem so unsympathetic. Your beanie was in your tube. So collapsed or not, it was still ectopic. I think the way the treat people with past pregnanacy problems is discusting. Mine was the same. They see it every day so there used to it. But were not. Its just horrible.

Its good to here that you've got no pain or bleeding. I did have a little pain and even though people kept telling me that early pregnancy pains were normal, i just couldnt relax. The more i thought about them, the worse they were. I really do hope that your beanie is ok, i really do.

Moving your LMP date is a good idea. I couldnt relax until i had that 1st scan.

Got everything crossed for you hun x

missnatalie · 08/03/2007 22:21
