Can someone please update my stats?

Been given 10 days of Norethisterone and 3 months of 50mg cycles of clomid

Skrinson · 15/04/2016 15:50

Ladies can I jump in for some advice please? I've been diagnosed with pcos after coming off bc to ttc last June. Irregular and long cycles as well as weight gain since coming off helped lead to the diagnosis following ultra sounds etc. I saw a gynae last week who has prescribed metformin and I've been booked in for ovarian drilling and a dye test (?) in June. My bmi is currently 27 and I need to get down to 25 before he'll prescribe me chlomid, which seems to be what a lot of people on here get.

I seem to have been recommended for surgery pretty quickly (my first consultation!) so wasn't sure if this was normal or if I'm just going into a bit of a panic Confused

Any advice or stories would be gratefully received!

Thank you x

AmyC86 · 15/04/2016 16:24

Hi skin,

I had a dye test years ago when I first had tests done. Its to see if you have any blockages in your tubes.

I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS last week and Ive been given 3 months of clomid (3 cycles worth)

FrazzleRock · 15/04/2016 16:51

Hi Skrinson I also had the dye test (HSG) only a couple of weeks before I feel pregnant with DS2. The doctor told me a lot of women fall pregnant after these tests as it can clear the way if there were any small blockages, and he was right! We'd been trying for 11 months by that point. Possibly a coincidence, but worth a go regardless.

Skrinson · 15/04/2016 17:08

Thanks frazzle and Amy for your replies. So did you have the ovarian drilling too? Is that the same thing? Sorry, I'm new to all this and have no idea what I'm on about really. I've completely drained my battery on my train ride home reading all the previous posts, this is a complicated business isn't it?! Thank goodness I did though, I noticed someone mentioned their hubby was due to go to Barbados but thw Zika virus is there. Guess where we're supposed to be going in October Sad better call the agent and see if we can change destination!

Skrinson · 15/04/2016 18:22

So I've still not finished reading everything, but I have read quite a bit of this feed. Some of you chicks really have been through the mill on your journeys haven't you 😔 I'm so glad nurse pointed me in the direction of this, I'm still a bit baffled by terminology and procedures, but I've learnt more in the last 2 hours than I had from doctors and online. Thank you all of you for sharing all your experiences, it's so helpful to newbies like me!

RoseBud2016 · 15/04/2016 19:19

Hi all,

I'm still here- just lurking really. Nothing happening with me until May so I don't have a lot to say but I'm glad to see things are moving along for some of you ladies.

Shellbell0403 · 15/04/2016 20:42

Welcome aboard skrin.. your in the right place! Some amazing women on here xx

RoseBud2016 · 16/04/2016 07:56

Shell Smile Hello lovely! Thanks for keeping the thread going- you are doing a fab job of keeping everyone together. I'm nominating you to start the next PCOS thread! Grin I'm passing the baton to you!

I know you said you're on your third cycle of letrozole at the mo... How many cycles have you been prescribed in total? Are you getting scans each cycle?

I'm mainly on the infertility boards now, obsessing about IVF and doing a transfer with one of my 5 Frosties. It's not a great situation to be in so I don't recommend any of you ladies opt for IVF unless it really is the only option left- it's a pretty lonely and sad place at times. But DH is sure we will get there eventually so at least one of us is positive- lol!

Shell Here is the new linik for our spreadsheet. I have made it so that anyone can edit it now, rather than it just being me.
You can add it to the first post of the new thread when we get there (if you are happy to start the next thread?! Smile)

My GP is not interested, it takes 3 weeks to get an appointment:(
Not bleeding today, could it be ovulation bleed?

DrewOB1 · 17/04/2016 15:06

AF just started, 2 weeks late :(

Shellbell0403 · 17/04/2016 15:26

Drew Sending love and hugs... I know how you feel but at least can start afresh again... let's do this 😚

FrazzleRock · 17/04/2016 16:27

I'm so sorry Drew What a massive let down. Fucking PCOS Sad

I have a question.

After getting a +OPK just before we went away, then shagging like rabbits, I have had bundles of symptoms to suggest I'm pregnant. Horrid metal mouth since last Monday, dry mouth, yet watery at the same time, guzzling water, slight boob twinges, nausea now and again, getting weird after tastes with some food - probs connected to the metal mouth, tiredness (not sure if more than normal though), headaches now and again, frequent weeing (but drinking lots so...), a few stretchy niggles low down, just to name a few.
You might remember I was complaining about having almost constant light bleeding since my MMC 8 weeks ago. Well I've not bled for over two weeks now.

Ovia app says I should test in three days which will be CD 23. (normal I think because, before I fell pregnant, my cycles had shrunk down from 100 days + to only one or 2 weeks long)
I caved early and tested this morning with a IC at only CD20 (still a long cycle given my recent and pre preg cycles), but it was negative. I didnt worry too much as i figured its just too early.
But I decided to grab an OPK (also IC) and that was positive Hmm it was fairly faint, but obviously there. Same as the +OPK I had before we went away.

What on earth is going on? Do we always show a faint +OPK because of having PCOS? In that case, I misread my previous OPK as that was faint too. I got all excited thinking I'd actually ovulated. My cervix was doing all the right things but wasn't getting any EWCM, only ever creamy/lumpy CM (sorry for the TMI if you're eating!). So here I am in the TWW and getting all these symptoms and I probably never even ovulated!

I feel like my body is being a massive bellend and teasing me with these symptoms. I feel like I'm kidding myself to think I could get pregnant so easily like we did with our little Shrimpy Sad. I struggled to get pregnant hugely with the DC. I wonder if Shrimpy was just a fluke. Plus DP keeps going off the idea to try again Sad - though we did have unprotected sex this morning, so if today's OPK is correct, then at least I've got that sort of covered so far.

Sorry looooooong Brew

Nurse15 · 18/04/2016 11:32

Hi Frazzle!! When you say faint positive OPK, An OPK is only psoitive when the test line as as dark or darker than control? You will pretty much always have some sort of a line on an OPK because LH is always present in every ladies system, We just get a surge before ovulation. Hope this helps!

Just a quick query, Is anyone on here on metformin for PCOS? if so, is it the standard or the modified release version? I'm on the standard but going to ask for the modified release as i find it hard remembering to take it three times a day.

My boobs are hurting like a bad thing today, hopefully this means SOMETHING is happening!

FrazzleRock · 18/04/2016 12:44

Thanks nurse I didn't know that before, but had read online somewhere that this might be the case. Thanks for confirming. That means the exciting line on my original OPK didn't mean I was ovulating, even though my cervix was doing the right things at the time. Hmm... now I'm even more confused. Ovia seems to think I ovulated then too. Who knows, I shall wait and see. At least I got a lesson in OPKs though!

I take metformin for PCOS 1500mg (3 x p/d). I had no idea about standard and modified. I don't know what I'm taking, but it did give me a dicky tummy when I first started taking it about a year ago, then again when I started up again post MC in Feb. But it didn't last long. I always take it with food too.

Boob pain sounds promising!

AmyC86 · 18/04/2016 13:08

Modified metformin means that you just take your full dose once a day. Much better for those who are busy.

Do you find that you loose weight (if you need to organise want to) easier on the metformin than without it?

Nurse15 · 18/04/2016 13:53

It's actually the modified release version 750mg which would mean I could take it at 6am and 5pm (breakfast and dinner) that I've asked my consultant for, I've emailed her secretary this morning. I don't find I lose weight with it as such but do find I can't eat fatty / sugary food without feeling sick so that puts me off and as a result my eating has been much better!

FrazzleRock · 18/04/2016 14:53

When I first started taking it I lost a bit of weight but it soon came back again, I'm not overweight but I'm heavier than I'd like. Especially as I gained a bit of weight when I was pregnant in Jan/February. Shame the MC didn't take the extra lbs too, and metformin certainly hasn't helped lose them.

I wasn't offered modified. It's a pain taking it three times a day as I have forgotten before, especially whern out of routine at the weekends.

Shellbell0403 · 18/04/2016 15:03

Hey ladies 😃

Nurse nice to see you!

Well I'm just at the hospital again for my next set of scans... feel nervous as hell haha xx

Nurse15 · 18/04/2016 15:04

modified release is lots more expensive but I have had to pay out of pocket for mine anyway thanks to my GP refusing to prescribe it and having to see my consultant privately to get a prescription so that is the only reason I will be prescribed it - If it means I am getting my full dose on the days im at work its worthwhile in my opinion but no not offered on the NHS unfortuantely
