Good luck today stealth!

frazzle I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. It's deeply unlikely your PCOS had anything to do with your miscarriage, it's almost certainly one of those deeply tragic, awful things. There's no link as far as I'm aware with PCOS and low progesterone - the NHS generally says there's no evidence for progesterone in preventing miscarriage, although private Drs are more belt and braces. Progesterone can't prevent a miscarriage in the vast majority of cases where it's due to chromosomal abnormalities, although if there are progesterone deficiencies it can help to support a normal pregnancy. My SIL saw my (private) Dr after her miscarriage and he's recommended she take progesterone and a baby aspirin upon getting a positive pregnancy test, but that is primarily belt and braces than anything else (she isn't PCOS)

Metformin is absolutely pregnancy safe and my Dr said there is some evidence it can help to reduce the incidence of miscarriage in PCOS, so deffo deffo push to keep on it.

Wishing you all the very best in your TTC journey xx

Thanks banana. I might still pop my head in now and again and hope to join you all officially if DP agrees to go ahead with trying again

stealthbanana · 09/03/2016 13:00

Thanks all for your well wishes!

feefee I've got another trip on Sunday but next few days will be easy, yes

Anyway, I am just back from the clinic and it turns out I am a total egg factory - they got 37 eggs Shock. Every follicle had an egg. Of course most of them will be immature but hopefully we'll have something to work with!

MagpieCursedTea · 09/03/2016 13:13

Stealth that sounds pretty impressive and very positive!

Frazzle I just wanted to say I'm very sorry about your miscarriage. Wishing you all the best Thanks

I had a bit of a temp increase today. I don't think I've ever ovulated without clomid (at least not while TTC) so trying not to get my hopes up but after a couple of nearly positive OPKs and some EWCM this is the most hope I've had about ovulating in years. Can metformin help that quickly or is it a coincidence?

CwtchyQ · 09/03/2016 13:49

stealth !!!!!!!!!! 37!!!! That's amazing. Bloody hell! Hope you're feeling okay now.

magpie how long have you been on the met? Considering I took my first one yesterday, and have, uhhh, definitely had some side effects Blush I would say it does get into your system v quickly. Of the success stories I did find online, a fair few were an immediate change noted. You're giving me hope!

8dpo and temps still really high (37!) But due to dtd 3 days before OV I doubt it's meaningful. Metformin has given me an awful stomach but I expected it. Just can't wait to see if it works!

CwtchyQ · 09/03/2016 13:53

frazzle so sorry for your loss. I agree with everything banana has said. I am on metformin now, and if I get a BFP I will be making it clear that I wish to stay on it. Be kind to yourself Flowers

Shellbell0403 · 09/03/2016 15:33

Frazzle I'm so sorry.. Sending lots of love your way!!

Stealth that's amazing!!! Positive thoughts 😁

Cwtchy I have everything crossed for you!!

Devgal · 09/03/2016 15:57

Frazzle I am so sorry. I don't know enough about Progesterone I am afraid, but I take 1000mg Metformin a day (2 separate tabs) and asked my GP about taking during pregnancy as like you I had read it can reduce the mc risk back down to normal risk (ie someone without PCOS). She was fairly non-committal as she said no doctor would want to say that Metformin can prevent miscarriage as that would be saying they knew the cause, but she advised that if/when I fell preg, to see her directly and we would decide together based on any side effects/issues I have had with it. So not particularly helpful, but hopefully a little more for you to go on.

stealthbanana · 09/03/2016 16:12

frazzle sorry I missed your post earlier. First, Flowers for your miscarriage. As banana says, don't worry about progesterone, that's v unlikely to have been the reason.

In terms of metformin, both doctors I have seen about it have both said take it through the first trimester as it helps w both miscarriage rates and also the chances of developing gestational diabetes. So there's no reason why you can't take it through til the next time.

That said, I suspect metformin is a bit hit and miss in terms of its impact - I certainly don't believe it's really done anything much for me. Except perhaps indirectly by forcing me to eat more healthily and cut down alcohol, as it makes me sick if I don't!

magpie I believe it can take up to 3 months, but yes it can start working straight away. As ponty says, you can feel the side effects!

MagpieCursedTea · 09/03/2016 17:14

Cwtchy it's only been a couple of weeks. The side effects were really brutal the first few days, then again when the dose went up after a week. They're easing off again now though. I found they were much worse if I didn't eat enough with them. I'm also keeping my diet low GI as I heard that can help with PCOS as well as the side effects. I hope you feel better soon!

Stealth I certainly felt the side effects! I know what you mean about it forcing you to eat more healthily, I haven't dared touch chocolate the last couple of weeks and don't even miss it. I normally can't go a day or two without it.

stealthbanana · 09/03/2016 17:21

Low gi diet is much better for PCOS and also you will feel much better on metformin with it too. My weakness is white pasta and I've just stopped eating it (have wholemeal at home but don't order it out anymore) as it's almost guaranteed to come right back up! sorry tmi

Diet wise I can recommend the detox kitchen cookbook. I am modifying the recipes somewhat as it is wheat and dairy free and it doesn't work for my body to go without both of those - but really great healthy recipe ideas. Also they have some specific recipes for PCOS which I've enjoyed.

Shellbell0403 · 09/03/2016 21:28

Just a wee question....

Is anyone superstitious? I seen 4 magpies on the way to work today...

MagpieCursedTea · 09/03/2016 22:12

4 for a boy!

FeeFeeLaFew · 10/03/2016 08:12

Wowsers stealth, 37 eggs is phenomenal! Good luck for your call today but I'm sure you'll have brilliant numbers. Try not to overdo it even if you're feeling OK. I went for a few walks on the weekend (after EC on Friday) and am wondering if what they are what ended up making me feel much achier/ in pain on Monday. Fingers crossed for no OHSS for you. Are they going to scan you soon or is that only if you get any symptoms?

On phone and on the train about to miss my stop so will do more personal later.
Hope you all have lovely days- at least it's nearly the weekend!

DrewOB1 · 10/03/2016 10:39

Hello all,
I hope everyone is doing well
Sorry for the radio silence but I stopped trying for a while but I missed the company? Grin How's it going?

FrazzleRock · 10/03/2016 11:03

Thank you for your responses. I feel a little less wound up by it now!

I feel bad for constantly asking you all questions the past couple of weeks and not actually participating in the chat.
The MC has zapped my brain though. When I am thinking straight again, I completely plan to join you all properly.

Thakns again Flowers

stealthbanana · 10/03/2016 11:09

frazzle I can't even imagine how hard it must be. Take care of yourself and don't put pressure Flowers

feefee I've actually woken up feeling worse so am definitely going to take it easy today.

On the positive side I had really good news from the clinic - of the 37 eggs, 33 were mature and 31 fertilised. Am over the moon (although still v cautious about what could still go wrong!)

Shellbell0403 · 10/03/2016 12:01

Stealth that's amazing news!! So what's the next step? Take it easy today!!

Frazzle sending some more hugs your way!!

DrewOB nice to see you 😊

Feefee have a good day!

So I took my last tabs last night... Do I start the process of dtd or do I wait until the scans start... Decisions....

DrewOB1 · 10/03/2016 12:07

So how long should I try before asking GP for help? In total it has been around 10 failed cycles, is that enough?

Shellbell0403 · 10/03/2016 12:38

DrewOB they normally say about a year... Have you been tested for pcos or anything?

DrewOB1 · 10/03/2016 12:43

Yes, I was diagnosed 5 years ago. No help offered apart from 5 different pills over the years for the symptoms ( dianette, marvelon, Yasmin etc)
Sorry I am just catching back with all the post since I last caught up with this thread.

CwtchyQ · 10/03/2016 17:15

Bloody hell stealth that's fantastic news! What a great start to the process. I feel some very good news coming on!

9dpo for me today and cramping like mad, so hoping AF stays away for another couple of days. A short LP is all I need!

VillageFete · 10/03/2016 20:02

Hello ladies, so much news & so many people to personally reply to! Haven't been on for a few days. Will read up properly in a minute but firstly Frazzle I'm so sorry Flowers it's truly shit. X

I'm after some advice ladies, I use that clearblue advanced fertility monitor & it only picked up on high this month, no peak, so of course assumed I didn't ovulate, had day 21 blood tests to confirm this and then was going to bite the bullet and go for clomid. Anyway, my Dr rang me today to tell me I did indeed ovulate and my "score" was 63.8. What does this mean? I started testing for ovulation on day 10, tested up until day 20 and still only high. Had bloods done on day 21.

Can anyone advise? Could the score of 63.8 mean I geared up for ovulation, but didn't quite get their? If it meant I did ovulate, would that number indicate I ovulated in the week leading up to the test? I did ask the Dr all this but he was very vague & unsure.

Why didn't the monitor pick up on this? Or could it be that I didn't ov and it's just the PCOS that makes it look like I ov'd?

Shellbell0403 · 10/03/2016 20:29

The opks aren't that good for testing as can give false readings but I'm sure blood tests are a lot more accurate xx

VillageFete · 10/03/2016 20:47

Thanks Shell it's just that this expensive machine is supposed to be accurate! I know with PCOS it's hard to tell, but I thought if it was innaccurate it would be telling me I ov'd when I didn't, not that I didn't ov when I did!
