Hello ladies... just returned from first appointment in fertility clinic with DP and already fast-tracked to a laparoscopy and dye... quick background: TTC#1, 18 months, no luck, PCOS, on metformin. Very, very scared... Keep trying to think positive, think about the outcome, but I'm scared of going under anaesthesia and the whole recovery... Any experiences?

ellewalk · 23/02/2016 15:12

leta86 I had a Lap and Dye on the 10/02, the actual operation was okay, of course the whole going to sleep thing was scary but the hospital were great and I just tried to stay calm. It was over very quickly. I went down for the op at about 11am and I was in the car home at 4.30 (being driven by DH of course!). What I will say is that I was a little naive about how sore my tummy would be. It took a good 5 days to start to feel 'normal'. Plus AF arrived 3 days after the surgery and it was a bad one which did not help! So we are now 13 days after the surgery and I am back to normal, although my incisions have not healed totally and my dis-solvable stitches are still their. It really was okay, just make sure you can have a few days off afterwards to take some time to heal and you will be just fine...oh and I was all clear! x

Shellbell0403 · 23/02/2016 17:11

Hey everyone 😊

Leta86 I haven't had the lap and dye... Iv only had the dye test which was quite painful but ok...

Honeybee been trying for early two years. All other tests ok 😊 Starting my second round of Letrozole this weekend Aslong as AF comes...

Well went for my appointment at the clinic with the consultant. They done a blood test to check the eggs and ovaries?? Something to do with the egg count?? Also if this doesn't work they are going to put me on metformin also?

Any good news for anyone? Xx

Honeybee100 · 23/02/2016 19:32

shellbell0403 glad the appointment went ok and all your other tests are fine 😊 Did you try Clomid first before Letrozole? Was the blood test to check your egg count?I have heard lots of people taking metformin and Clomid or Letrozole with good results so fingers for you. Do you have a 21 day blood test? I had one yesterday and got my progesterone result of 190.7 this seems quite high?not sure if this good or bad!but happy that I ovulated xx

Shellbell0403 · 23/02/2016 21:53

Yeh the bloods they took today was to check the egg count! Have you had this done? They took some blood to check my iron level too as Iv been having a lot of headaches etc!
Nope straight to Letrozole because I have a heart shaped uterus so she wants low risk haha! She's up' my dose from next month so fingers crossed and then if not think metformin will be introduced!
Aww that's fab that you ovulated!! How long have you been trying? Xx

Honeybee100 · 24/02/2016 11:24

I'm not sure if I have or not, they did some kind of tests FH I think it was and LH? and they said they were all fine. That's great that they have up your dose and fingers crossed it will work! Do you get many side effects on it? Been trying a year, although feels a lot longer as I wanted a baby for so long but DH didn't. I think he thought you just have unprotected sex and wham you get pregnant! I wish it was that simple! I only found out I had PCOS late last year, even though I have previously had 2 laparoscopys but apparently they weren't looking for it?! And as I had been on the pill since I was about 16 so had regular "periods". I've only ovulated twice since my miscarriage last year thanks to the Clomid so feel happy to be ovulating again. Just feel worried about if the Clomid doesn't work as we only get 6 months on it and then I know I Won't ovulate on my own ☹️
How are you feeling today? xx

bananafish81 · 24/02/2016 11:36

Will pop back to do personals but just checking in briefly with a quick update, as you've all been so incredibly supportive, you ladies have been the absolutely best

Had our viability scan yesterday, everything was measuring bang on for 7+1 and saw and heard a cracking little heartbeat Grin

Honeybee100 · 24/02/2016 13:29

bananafish81 congratulations that's AMAZING news!xx

ellewalk · 24/02/2016 13:35

banana AMAZING news, am so pleased for you...keep us up to date with your progress x

chandelierswinging · 24/02/2016 14:24

Fab news banana! Delighted for you and DH.

Devgal · 24/02/2016 14:50

Ah amazing news banana, so pleased for you!!

CwtchyQ · 24/02/2016 19:32

Fab news banana, really brilliant! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Shellbell0403 · 24/02/2016 20:44

Aww that's fantastic banana!! So pleased 😁😁

Honeybee I'm ok... Trying not to think about things.. Headaches subsided slightly and now waiting patiently for AF to pay a visit.. How are you??

Trying to decide whether to Google IUI or just leave it until I may need it 🙈 Xxx

Nurse15 · 24/02/2016 21:27

Great news banana!! So pleased for your good news!! Was seeing the scan totally amazing?

After being on metformin for 4 weeks I think I've ovulated by myself! And had a period too (before the maybe ovulation!) I have had all the signs of ovulation a few days ago (though my opk did not agree!) suspect I have maybe ovulated a day when I had two long days in a row and therefore missed doing a opk those days. We will see in two weeks! Hope I am not being over optimistic Smile

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 24/02/2016 22:32

Bananafish Wow that's lovely news! I'll bet that was a great experience!

I'm on the app so can't post personal messages but wanted to say to Rosebud when you come back, we're thinking of you Thanks

AFM my body has put a spanner in the works by chucking a random, unexpected AF my way. Was on cd 120 when it randomly started. It's light but persistent (on 6th day now) but obv I can't do a clomid cycle as DH will be away at dtd time.
Really wish I had insight into what my body is doing! Also wondering if it has anything to do with metformin as I take it daily but ran out for a few days - started again for 3 days and then this AF started?
Anyway, again I have no real update, except for saying that my lovely cousin who is 22 with a horrible boyfriend and is 14 weeks pregnant has asked that I crochet a blanket for her baby and it made me want to cry. I'm new to crocheting and thought the first baby blanket I made would be mine. It's so stupid I'm blaming my hormones Blush

Honeybee100 · 25/02/2016 10:42

shellbell Glad your ok, I'm trying to do the same but hard when I get asked "do you have children" at work constantly and they look shocked when I say no.
How long is it since your last af? Can they not give you provera?
I'm ok... My af is due Monday and I just know it's going to show up but the waiting is so hard.
Do you get IUI on the nhs? Will this be the next stage for you if the Letrozole doesn't work?
Glad your headaches have subsided xx

crazy Sorry to hear you got an af and can't do Clomid this cycle. Must be so frustrating. Sounds like it could be the metformin that caused it?Can they not give you provera if you don't get an af next month?
And that's not stupid about the blanket, does she know your situation? Maybe she would understand if you explained that you can't do it? You will get to make your own baby a blanket one day soon xx

stealthbanana · 25/02/2016 15:45

Hi all - sorry for absence waves

Will do personals later as am on phone but wanted to let you know that I've had a bit of a change of direction; went for my IUI scan on Tuesday and I had 20+ follicles all around 10-11mm and no dominant follicle(s). Doctor was concerned they were all going to grow at the same time and leave me like octomum so he has converted my cycle to IVF. So, um, I'm doing IVF! Slightly upped my gonal f to 100iu and have started cetrotide. Another scan tomorrow and then Monday with egg collection likely to be late next week/the week after. At this stage we will do a freeze all cycle as my lining is not keeping pace (it was at 5.5mm) and I think he's worried about overstimulation, but we'll decide whether to do a fresh transfer depending on how things go.

All a bit of a shock and am still trying to get my head around the quickness of it all....

CwtchyQ · 25/02/2016 22:59

stealth that's great! How exciting! What a quick changearound. Best way to be, so pleased you're being looked after so well. Can't wait to hear more about your journey.

I have admitted defeat and completely changed my tone - I am going to get referred.

FrazzleRock · 26/02/2016 07:41

Morning. I'm sorry, I posted a few days ago and seemed to run off. I think it was a little premature of me. But if it's ok, can I hang around and pop in when we're ready to TTC? Hopefully once my bleeding has stopped we can get right back to it. Though DP wants to wait until after my next period - obviously with PCOS this could take months and months though Hmm.

Stealthbanana Hi, we were on the due in September thread together I think? I left to join the FB group instead as I really struggled to keep up with such a huge group - sorry I disappeared but the group was so big!
I'm so pleased all is well for you, wonderful news Smile
Would you mind telling the others? Though they might have forgotten about me by now. Maybe remove me from the list? As I cant bring myself to do it.

If ok, I'll keep popping my head back in and be back with you guys properly when we really start TTC in a few weeks time.

ellewalk · 26/02/2016 08:20

FFS.......infection settled in my incision wound!! PUS PUS PUS......ahhhh GP prescribed antibiotics! On an up note he said that he would prescribe me clomid now rather than wait for my follow up appointment at the hospital. All he wants me to do is ring the hospital and tell them that if all they are going to do is prescribe me clomid then he will do it now rather than wait for them so all they need to do is sort out the monitoring! So going to ring on Monday.....

Shellbell0403 · 26/02/2016 11:44

Hey everyone!

Well AF was supposed to appear today... No show as of yet! Only early i suppose!! Like a constant waiting game... Haha..

Honeybee AF due today! I would get IUI on the nhs and then IVF if that doesn't work! After this cycle they said may implement metformin get along with a cycle of Letrozole to see what happens there!
I know the feeling about work etc... I'm off just now as was all getting abit much! Everyone and their dog seems to be falling pregnant except me!!

Stealth that's fab news!! How do you feel about that? All will be fab...

Can people tell me some info on the IUI and IVF... Freaked myself out abit the other day xx

MrsC2013 · 26/02/2016 23:57

Hi all, It's been a while again, I've missed a lot. Just wanted to say I'm still here. Am just going to catch up on all the posts I've missed and then I can do a proper post x

MrsC2013 · 27/02/2016 01:21

Wow that took ages!

Firstly I'd like to say how deeply sorry I am Rosebud Thinking of you and DH and we will all be here when you are up to coming back.

Stealth Fab news that you've responded so well and that they've moved so quickly with switching the cycle to IVF. Good luck!

Congratulations to Lucinda, wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

In reply to Dunlin and as an update from me, I'm on 50mg of Clomid, day 21 bloods confirmed no ov first time and as I didn't get to see the consultant until cd6 of the next cycle, I was already on 50mg even though it had no effect whatsoever!! Was absolutely devastated to start AF as I kinda stupidly thought/ hoped first cycle on Clomid might work. I'm now on cd16 as it's after midnight and know I won't ov this cycle so it's just a case of waiting another week and a half to try 100mg. So frustrated the hospital knew 50mg hadn't worked but didnt take the initiative to call to tell me to increase the dose, so now that's another cycle wasted.
Saw a diff consultant too, who seemed to think Clomid wouldn't work and mentioned referral to a specialist clinic for the next step. In the meantime though, I've got 3 cycles of 100mg to try so we'll see.

I seem to be one step behind you Oranges. Well done on persisting and getting them to up the dose. Mine were good at upping it immediately when 50mg didn't work, but I'm only being given day 21 bloods as monitoring too. I did ask about scans as so many ladies on here seem to have them, especially as Clomid can thin the lining, and was told my area don't provide them Angry I think it's crazy they're not checking whether any potential ov could actually sustain a pg!

Welcome to the newbies too. Can't remember who, but to those talking about Metformin, I was on it for 6 months and it did absolutely nothing for me. I had been put on a contraceptive pill (really!) at the same time so I could try to lose weight which they were hoping would also encourage natural ov, and didn't. Perhaps Met didn't have an affect due to being on a pill, but my consultant isn't in favour of it anyway.

FeeFeeLaFew · 27/02/2016 08:45

Good morning all,
I have been AWOL, in a tunnel of focusing on my (previously) non-existent follie growth during my IVF cycle. I've done a few personals but haven't gone back over all the posts I've missed. Welcome to all the newbies though.
Welcome back MrsC. my clinic was a bit odd when they were going to put me on clomid - they said, you have to be monitored by ultrasound, but you have to pay for it. The doctor was quite apologetic about the stance their (hospital? trust?) had taken on it. They talked about a package of 3-4 scans but even one scan would presumablly help work out what's going on with the lining.
Anyway, how frustrating that you didn't get told about the 50mg not working. But who knows, various people on this thread ovulate on alternate months so maybe it will still happen for you this cycle.
Shellbell, I know how you feel. It does seem to be getting harder and harder to hear about people's pregnancy announcements and I'm always a bit apprehensive of the next one. Even though I am genuinely happy for them. Just wish we could join them. It's great that you seems to have lots of options/ a pathway for your treatment. I recommend not googling everything straight away though - it can get really overwhelming.
Ellewalk, oh no! I hope the antibiotics work straight away. But that is so great about your proactive GP. The hospital might still want to assess you first themselves. But here's hoping.

Frazzle, do stick around on this friendly thread. Good luck when you start TTC.
Stealth, how super exciting about the IVF conversion (and all those juicy follicles!) How are you feeling? Hope it's not interfering with travel plans - you seem to be away a lot with work! How long have you been stimming now?
IsIt, how frustrating about the timing of your AF. I don't think three days of not taking metformin would be likely to have had that effet, but then I've been taking it for a year and am not sure it's made the blindest bit of difference so am just sceptical of its effects generally! Hopefully you won't have to wait long after your DP is back to start a new cycle with the clomid. I don't think it's a stupid reaction to the baby blanket thing - you should absolutely say no if it's going to upset you.
Bananafish, you already know this but I was thrilled to hear about your scan this week! Yay for the heartbeat.
Let86, I had a laparoscopy to remove a dermoid cyst last year and I was uncomfortable afterwards from the gas they inflate you with but it was all honestly fine. Do make sure you've got your DP there and at home to look after you afterwards though.
Rosebud, still thinking of you. Hope you and DP are doing ok.

I am on Day 17 of my cycle, and will be on my 16th dose of IVF stims this evening - a lot longer than most people (according to the internet) seem to do their IVF stims for, but my ovaries only started visibly responding on yesterday's scan. So it's been quite a frustrating, worrying time with some mixed messages from the doctors about what might happen next. Hopefully that means there's no wrong answer, just various right ones! Anyway, the scan yesterday showed about 9 follicles ranging between 9 and 12mm, as well as dozens of ones smaller than 9mm. Quite relieved they haven't all blown up at once but we shall see what Monday's scan will bring. Looks like I may still yet get to egg collection in a week or so, but maybe not a fresh embryo transfer (if they fertilise) because of hyper stimulation and/or poor lining after stimming so long. Sorry for the excess detail for all those who haven't been looking into IVF/ gone through it - hopefully you won't ever have to!

Nurse15 · 27/02/2016 08:56

That's great news feefee! Hope it all continues to go to plan!! Smile
