I think progesterone is always administered as a pessary as it needs to be absorbed into your bloodstream rather than be metabolised by your stomach. I did all mine in the "back floor" as it was mess free. They're about the size of your little fingernail and look like a tiny wax crayon. You just pop it in and that's that - really easy!

I was ovulating fine (just late) so progesterone by itself was my first port of call to artificially extend my LP. If it hadn't worked in 3 cycles my doctor had floated the idea of clomid to bring ovulation forward in my cycle but as you know, the progesterone worked first time Smile

Pregnancy and childbirth is for me, I would do anything for it and think it's a little insensitive for you to have suggested otherwise mrsmugoo Envy. So glad the progesterone suppositories worked out for you, thanks for your help re: dosage and back door suggestion :)

mrsmugoo · 17/02/2016 08:11

Sorry it was mentioned as a bit of a lighthearted comment, I didn't mean to offend.

Friendlycav · 17/02/2016 08:33

I know, sorry I'm feeling really sensitive about everything at the moment xx

Sounds like progesterone could be an option for you MrsU? But obv I'm not a doctor.

sunshinegirl12 · 17/02/2016 12:25

Its so frustrating isnt it Mrsunsure, but hopefully you will get some answers at your appt. That is what worries me as I usually ovualate around day 12 but then my luteal phase is 10 or 11 days, which is short but I've seen a lot of people who have conceived naturally with a luteal phase this length, I just worry theres something more serious or that they will say nothing seems to be wrong just keep trying. x

mascaraisamust · 17/02/2016 14:22

That was the same as me Mrsunsure, bang on day 20 I ovulated, 7/8 days later AF. The pessaries were a minor inconvenience, I didn't want to stop them. They weren't uncomfortable or anything.

Well I'm chilling out having a spa day Smile feel like I needed to stop worrying, spend some quality time with DH and chill out a bit!

DizzyMerry · 17/02/2016 15:02

Sorry I fell off the thread! We only managed to dtd once for the last couple of cycles due to being ill and I've just been feeling so down about it all.

I hope you get some answers mrsu. It's so frustrating trying to work out what the issue is and even harder to get someone to agree and just sort it out.

Sunshinegirl have you got an appointment to see a specialist?
My lp seems to be back to 13/14 days but ov varies quite a lot. Currently 8dpo but we've got no chance this cycle.

I'm with you ladies feeling miserable right now, considering I only got home from holiday a few days ago I feel ridiculously stressed and run down.

I just don't know if the specialist will consider my luteal phase short enough to give me progesterone. Hmm I usually just go to sleep after DTD, should I stay awake with my legs up then? Blush

Dizzy, good to hear your luteal phase has increased again. I have a private appt next week x

Ladies sending positive thoughts your way. Hope you have some good news soon. Try not to stress.

8DPO today and huge temp drop of 0.32C so sure AF will arrive soon. Last few months LP has been 9days.

I think this month I'm ok with it as I feel I'm making progress with NHS and going with the mantra that it'll happen when the time is right and everything happens for a reason etc. FF tells me if we conceived this cycle then due date would be 2nd November!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/02/2016 17:21

AF arrived. Had my shortest LP of just 7days Sad

sunshinegirl12 · 18/02/2016 17:35

Ah no Sunshine, I wonder why it has got shorter. Good to hear you are managing to stay positive.

I have finally pulled myself together about my friend being pregnant and am even feeling genuinely excited about it x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/02/2016 18:04

No idea why it has got shorter.

Your time will come. I know how you feel though it seems someone I know is announcing a pregnancy so often now.

Still, onwards and upwards at least this cycle isn't too painful. Last month I had to leave work early and was in tears feeling down and in pain.

sunshinegirl12 · 18/02/2016 18:53

I've just picked up a copy of my blood results ready to take to my private appt and it shows that my prolactin levels are high, so now I'm freaking out about this and also annoyed that the drs didnt bother to tell me this when I rang in for the results. Progesterone level shows 62.8 nmol/L which I think is ok, so just the prolactin to worry about now Sad

sunshinegirl12 · 18/02/2016 18:53

Sunshine, glad you are pain free this month x

Friendlycav · 18/02/2016 20:06

I had my private appointment today so thought it might be helpful for you to hear how it went. As background, I have already had day 2-5 and day 21 blood tests on the NHS, as well as a basic pelvic transvaginal ultrasound.

The consultant said that in order to get a full picture as to whether there is anything preventing me conceiving, I should get some more tests: 1) AMH - checks ovarian reserve 2) HSG - checks fallopian tubes aren't blocked and 3) another scan to check follicle count. It is also important to get results of my DH's SA. All these tests will cost close to £1,000 so I have to decide whether to go ahead privately or wait for my NHS referral. During my last convo with the GP, she said she needs to know results of SA before she will agree to refer me. We get these results next week so plan to speak to GP then to find out if I'll get referred and what the waiting times are.

I highlighted my short luteal phase (8-9 days) and the consultant didn't seem too concerned and was going to dismiss it but I insisted on him prescribing me cyclogest. Maybe it's because my progesterone levels on day 21 were not bad (35) but he agreed to prescribe cyclogest (400mg daily after ovulation) so at least I have that to try!

I feel reassured that nothing obviously wrong but also means there is nothing obvious they can fix...

Good luck to everyone who has appointments coming up x

sunshinegirl12 · 18/02/2016 20:22

Thanks for the update Friendly, atleast you have got your progesterone prescription to try now x

iamabear · 18/02/2016 21:09

Thanks for the update friendlycav. Let us know how you get on with the cyclogest, good on you for getting those!

I had another internal scan this week on day 11 as part of my follicle tracking (to prove my short LP to the doc!), no sign of imminent ovulation (as I suspected), so I have to go back on Mon (day 18). I told my boss this week as I am having so many appointments and he was really supportive. Was shocked when he said he and his wife needed IVF. They are now divorced and no kids Sad. Reminded me how unfair this all is!

Sorry to hear about your 7 day LP sunshinegirl2015.
Sunshinegirl12 fx high prolactin can be easily solved.

Friendlycav, to add Mrsunsure's comments, I too thought the amount of time between the referral and subsequent hospital appointments was very reasonable (actually I'm inclined to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how swift it was!). Getting the GP to refer is definitely the bit that takes the time.

In case it helps with your decision, where I am HSG and follicle tracking are free on the NHS, and I had to pay £80 for the AMH test.

Mrsunsure I think your DH can get a SA through the GP regardless of everything else that's going on so if he can get a shifty on you might have the results back in time for the appointment?
