Azure, I know how you feel hanging around these boards for so long. I was the longest serving member for a while and it was glum. Lots of good luck to you, be the next one to leave.

gloworm · 15/06/2004 13:57

i can't remember if I have posted this here before (sorry if i have), but I thought it might be of interest to some of you????

MALE
lack of zinc is associated with lower testosterone levels.
taking zinc can have a considerable impact on sperm count and sperm motility and male fertility.
zinc supplements extends life span of ejaculated sperm.
in one recent study...couples who were 5yrs ttc...men took 60mg zinc per day...half of couples pregnant within 7 weeks!
Take at least 22mg per day. you will have better success with a good quality brand such as Solgar, ask in health shop for one which is "CHELATED" as it is much much easier to absorb.

FEMALE
deficiency in zinc is linked with impaired hormone sectetion, abnormal ovarian development, frequent miscarriage, prolonged gestation and still births.

ALSO if you're interested:
Take Solgar Prenatal vitamins while ttc (and during pregnancy and breastfeeding). contrains right amount of everything including 400microgram folic acid. I took this even though i already have a good diet.

a herbal remedy called Agnus Castus(or called chaste berry). It helps with production of hormones in last 2 weeks of menstrual cycle. this is when egg is prepared for fertilisation and womb is prepared for pregnancy. acts on pituitary gland. increases level of progesterone relative to oestrogen. STOP TAKING AS SOON AS SUSPECT PREGNANT.

if you want any more info just ask (i am a nutritionist and own a health shop).

2ticks: I believe that 12-16 is the average..11 is borderline..and 10 or under warrents immediate investigation. HTH

2ticks · 15/06/2004 14:19

Thanks futurity - looks like I am at the shorter end of average then - will keep an eye on this and go to the Dr if a few months go by without a BFP. Is there anything that I could do for myself (you mentioned vitamins in an earlier post) to help with this?

futurity · 15/06/2004 14:28

Out of the ones I am taking these two are meant to help with it: Vitex Agnus Castus (which is a herb) from period to ovulation (although some theories that can be taken throughout cycle but should be stopped when pregnancy established)

and

Vitamin B6 (100mg to 200mg) most B6 supplements have a lot less so should ask specifically for this (copied and pasted from Twiglett's post a while ago)

I got both of these from Holland and Barrett.

Also soya products are meant to help so I am having soya milk on my cereal and having soya yogurt (both of which taste fine!)

Since taking this lot my lp has gone from 9 to 11 days.

2ticks · 15/06/2004 14:40

Thanks so much Futurity that's really helpful - I'll see what happens this month and then start on the vitamins next cycle.

That's great that yours has increased - I have my fingers crossed for you this month.

Thanks again.

to find a reflexologist qualified in maternity, you can contact organisations but i would look in yellow pages/ thompson and ask what qualifications they have.

i qualified with ITEC, whi incidentally never get a mention when it comes to reflexology, but i am not a member because it costs loads. i am insured though. regulations relating to complementary therapies is a whole other subject and not for here .

i would not mind in the least if someone called me and asked about my qualifications. some reflexologists will treat pregnancy, but maybe not first 13 weeks. most are fine for preconception but i do know the endocrine system more in depth now than i did when doing basic training, FYI.

best wishes

rosie

ChaCha · 15/06/2004 19:35

I'm really sorry to be so thick but i'm just home for a bite to eat and need to know 'what does reflexology involve?' as i'm thinking of looking into it after all these posts.
I think i ov'd day before yesterday but only BD'd once, shattered from work and the heat. Always something. Oh well...

bluestar · 15/06/2004 19:36

Surprise surprise I have started spotting. 10DPO from the final possible ovulation time and therefore same time as last cycle. Not too disappointed (well who am I kidding) that af will come in a few days as I did not bd at this time as other symptoms & temp indicated I had already ovulated (and I also fell asleep one night by accident!!) but am fed up that cycle was reasonably regular for me (29-31 days) and will now be about 40 days. Still to be positive about this, I have just looked up a local reflexologist (who specialises in conception/infertility) and will make an appointment for next week. I so much want another baby and am trying not to sink into despair that it will never happen again

futurity · 15/06/2004 20:53

Sorry to hear that bluestar ..good luck with the reflexologist.

Just realised that I will probably need an endometrial biopsy after my blood tests (depending on what they come back with) and before I get referred so this may put back my proposed 5th July appointment for a couple of weeks. I know that if it is needed it is important but I was so excited about the 5th of July being the day that things get sorted

rosies · 15/06/2004 21:53

hi chacha,

reflexology is a therapy that works on the basis that our feet mirror all the glands, organs, muscles etc of the body. by working on the reflex points of the feet that relate to the various parts of the body, we can determine if an imbalance is present and help to restore the balance and natural harmony of the body and its systems.

as it is such a balancing therapy, it can help to regulate periods and strengthen the immune system in readiness.

it should never hurt but can sometimes feel sensitive. it is extremely relaxing and good for combatting stress (which doesnt help ttc).

its also an hour of me time, very beneficial in itself.

do ask if you want to know more )

best wishes
rosie

alterego · 15/06/2004 21:57

Just checking in again. Sorry to hear that there are no graduates to the "Due in Feb" thread yet.

I'm 2DPO. Seems the only way I can tell is through OPK. CM not always consistent and BBTs quite difficult to interpret. Did look into Persona to try and save money but think it would take a long time at £10 a month for the sticks. (ClearPlan OPK are £20 for 7 sticks which sometimes does me 2 cycles). Must have a go at Fertility Friend but internet access has been awkward this month - virus on my PC (but not the one I'm using at the moment).

Anyway, not expecting to get pg this cycle as DH is away for the vital three days. Gets back tomorrow so will bd but for fun more than hope.

ChaCha · 15/06/2004 23:52

Thanks Rosie, i'm intrigued!
Something i think i will definitely be looking into in the next few weeks. I read it can be good for endometriosis - i had endo pain last weekend - thought the operation had cleared that so think the reflexology could be good.
Cheers!

bluestar · 16/06/2004 00:40

alterego, I was looking into reflexology today and along side it, it was recommended to take evening primrose oil to create more cm and for it to last longer, but you can only take it from period to ovulation and then stop. My cm is a bit erratic too so I think I will give this a go. If you could see my chart on FF this cycle, it looks like I have ovulated 3 times and since my spotting seems to be going straight into af, it is really difficult to see where actual ovulation took place. Oh, well, maybe a March baby for me.

runtus · 16/06/2004 11:51

Newcomer alert!

Been trying for just under a month (a mere beginner I know!) and really excited still. Obviously hoping to fall quickly but you never know till you try do you?

Best of luck to everyone!

Azure · 16/06/2004 12:35

Hello and welcome Runtus - I hope you "graduate" soon. Bluestar, sorry to hear that AF may be on the way - very frustrating when you get conflicting messages about ovulation. Futurity I hope your appointment doesn't get delayed for too long. Has AF arrived yet?

runtus · 16/06/2004 12:59

Seem to be spending most of my time discovering new side effects of comng off the pill - nausea, headaches, stomach pain etc....

Has anyone any advice for a newcomer?

futurity · 16/06/2004 13:01

Nope..no AF here and its 11 DPO. Temps still look good but got all the aches so expect it over the weekend. Won't know what to do if it doesn't come tomorrow...good intentions tell me not to test but I will probably cave in!!

GillW · 16/06/2004 13:19

Well OPK & CM suggest OV any time now (CD12) - but DH is off on his own for a couple of nights from tonight. Why does this ALWAYS happen? He's only away for a couple of nights every couple of months, and it's always at just the wrong time IYKWIM. It's not as if he's planning it either - my last 3 cycles have been 21,18 and 48 days, so hardly predictable.

futurity · 17/06/2004 10:35

12 DPO..no AF and the same temp I have had for the last 5 days!! Going to be a long weekend waiting to test!

futurity · 17/06/2004 15:16

Couldn't wait to test as picked up some spare ones my friend had and they were just calling to me to use them....

ermentrude · 17/06/2004 15:47

OMG futurity - does that mean what I think it does?

futurity · 17/06/2004 16:15

Might do!!

(I'm such a tease!)

Azure · 17/06/2004 17:46

What! What! Futurity that's fantastic news Many, many congratulations!!!!!

2ticks · 17/06/2004 18:01
