Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Thanks Wispaxmas. I don't want to get into the habit of testing prior to when AF is due, in case of chemical and of course to avoid the expensive repeat testing I'll no doubt be sacked into! I work in maternity so I'm painfully aware of chemical pregnancies and the like, I know I'd be devastated so I think u should avoid that sort of thing as much as poss. I actually ovulated wed as far as I know so a slightly better chance but really I am not expecting anything this month. Trying to avoid opk as much as I can just now, give me a month or 2 or I'll be on it! Im going to go with both apps for a month or 2 and then decide what one suits me better I think.

I can sympathise about the low sex drive, OH's is way less than mine. He would be happy with once a week! And that's with him working away half the time! Though it usually is more frequent the first few days he's homeGrin

It's nice to have others in the same boat as we aren't telling anyone we are thinking of babies, trying to avoid the pressure! I have this weird feeling it could be problematic or take a long time, but I don't know if that's the pessimist in me or just because I see people who have/had issues so often.

Good luck everyone!

Sausagema · 26/02/2016 14:29

I think I should avoid early testing not u! Bloody autocorrect!

Commiserations on the AF Alice, enjoy the coffee x

AliceScarlett · 26/02/2016 14:40

Good plan not testing early, why do it to yourself, like you said expensive too.

I also think TTC will take ages and I'm not normally pessimistic. I think I read too much about problems and being on cycle 3 now it's clear that I'm not one of those women who can just look at a man and get upduffed.

Sausagema · 26/02/2016 14:55

Yeah I don't think I'm that type either! My bmi is far too high to be super fertile anyway Grin working on that though, 10lb down in 3 weeks so making inroads on that particular mountain!

wispaxmas · 26/02/2016 18:29

Sausage, amazing weight loss!! I've been on the wagon for a couple weeks, but my results aren't quite that good. Got myself a Fitbit charge HR, though, so hoping it will keep motivating me to be generally more active throughout the day as the gym is soooo not for me. Mind if I ask how you're going about it - did you join a program, or are you trying it on your own?

Alice, commiserations, AF sucks, but enjoy the coffee and ibuprofen!

wispaxmas · 26/02/2016 18:34

Oh, and I'm a serial tester Blush. I couldn't resist testing super early last time around and then bought a pack of digital tests and tested every 5 days or so until it turned to 3+. It wasn't TOO expensive. I only tested with the really cheap internet dip sticks until I got a real line, though.

Sausagema · 26/02/2016 20:30

I'm doing slimming world, and believe me that weight loss is a drop in the ocean! My bmi is about 38 which is far too high. I know plenty get pregnant at this weight but I know it's the first thing I'll need to fix if we have problems so I'm getting ahead of the game.

Oh I'll be a serial tester, there's no doubt! Just trying to resist that as long as poss!

Sienna9522 · 26/02/2016 22:15

Hi,

I'm 25, DP is 28 and has 1 child already from a previous relationship. We plan to start ttc #1 this month (hopefully). We hoped to be 'relaxed' about the whole thing but I'm too excited and have already purchased OPK's. I don't want to pester or overwhelm DP too much so thought this would be a good place to talk Smile.

Like others, I'm also on the weight loss wagon, although I don't have an awful lot to lose. Started the process around 2 months ago and have lost 1-2lb a week so far, although this week I haven't been as healthy as I could have been, and this will probably follow suit next week as we are going away for 4 days.

I'm hoping we can have a good go at trying this month, but I might be out depending on when I ovulate. I'm having my copper coil out on the 4th March (after a 2 month wait for an app) and I'm currently on CD 7 which will I mean I will be on CD 14 when it's removed. My cycles range from 25 - 30 days so I'm hoping I will ovulate on the later side this month.

Anyway, good to hear all of your stories and progress and good luck to all Flowers

AliceScarlett · 27/02/2016 08:36

My bmi has gone 17.6-19.5-18.3, cant win.

I'm rather stroppy this morning!

TheresaMarie55 · 27/02/2016 12:35

Hope you're ok Alice x

Today I start taking my second to last pill packet! Would love to just not but I'm doing well with my weight loss and know the 15th April (day I take last pill) will be here before I know it. Our washer broke yesterday Angry very annoying! New one gets delivered on Wednesday so my parents are kindly letting me do the weekends washing at theirs on Monday. In a way I'm glad though, it was quite old and we will now have a nice new one before having another baby. As long as we conceive this year we will have a four year old, two year old and new born so a new washer will be needed haha! X

stumblymonkey · 27/02/2016 17:02

Welcome thread newbies!

Congrats vertical!!! Let's hope the BFPs continue.

I'm also losing weight as my BMI is 40 Blush
Quite annoyed with myself about putting on so much weight but no point dwelling... onwards and downwards!

Alice...sorry your BMI has dipped again...it's a shame I can't lend you some of my BMI on a short term loan though probably for the best as I'd refuse to take it back

We both have low sex drives so are probably averaging a couple of times during the fertile window. You only need once though...both times I've been pregnant before were from just one shag occasion.

Hi Sienna, FX for next month, crazy that you had to wait so long for an appointment. And amazing job on the weight loss. 1-2lbs per week is brilliant!

My BMI is currently 30.3 apparently. Until this past year it had never been 30 or above, but when I started using MFP again earlier this month it was 31.2, so I'm feeling good about losses so far. It was 28.7 when I was booked in at 11 weeks in my first pregnancy and I ended up losing weight afterwards and it was 28 a few weeks after DD was born. I hate that I let being at home with her turn me into a cake-eating machine.

I think the main reason I'm 'relaxed' TTC and not bothered at all by being out this month is that I at least want to be back to where I was at the beginning of my first pregnancy when I get pregnant again.. I have about 4kg to lose to get there and have it in mind that May is going to be our month!

themightymoosh · 28/02/2016 07:38

Just catching up (or trying to, not so easy on a mobile!). I got a period last Thursday, first one in eight years which although was a bit of a disappointment it also means I know where I am with my cycle. If I've missed any positives, congratulations! And commiserations for any BFNs.

I am doing weight watchers online and used AF as an excuse to eat all the crisps. And chocolate. And possibly gin. Back on it today though. It's the evenings when I get in, they're fatal for me and diets. Ho hum.

I'm using Ovia - I found fertility friend a bit too technical. I have absolutely not checked when a baby conceived this cycle or next might be due in order to see if I could get Christmas off work.

wispaxmas · 28/02/2016 09:03

Lol mighty, I've done that before! But then i have this idea of the perfect time of year to have a baby would be in terms of mat leave- March! Would then mean it's cold wet and miserable during the time when you're stuck under a tiny sleeping baby and potentially dealing with colic, but then baby is old enough to not be screaming and eating all the time by the time summer rolls around, so you can fully enjoy any good weather Grin. Same goes for January and Feb babies, but then you run the risk of an early crawler come summer...

raddersmrs · 28/02/2016 11:47

I've posted a couple of times on here earlier in the thread but now I can officially post as a ttcer!

Came off the pill February and came to Friday when AF should've made an appearance and didn't so didn't feel great. But then last night I went the loo and voila! I literally yayed the house down and my OH knew exactly why I was yaying.
So happy and hope my cycles stay regular now. After this period we will be trying this month as it still means a Baby in November/beginning of December.

Mighty that did make me laugh as I have done the same! Although I think we will hold off April conception as there is a chance the baby would arrive on Christmas Day which if can be avoided for the baby's sake I will.

Pointlessfan · 28/02/2016 12:16

Just checking in, welcome newcomers!
One more week of waiting for me, trying not to obsess!

Sienna9522 · 28/02/2016 12:51

Hi Wispa,

I know the feeling all too well, I've lost weight in the past and after achieving my goal found myself slipping back into my old ways, I love cake Grin. Hopefully this time I will be able to maintain it and not put on too much weight during pregnancy. In saying that, I'm not going to restrict myself too much because it makes me miserable.

Just waiting patiently for my coil removal appointment now. Very excited to start Smile

AliceScarlett · 28/02/2016 14:19

Ooo lots of people starting or nearly ready to start, exciting Smile

Stumbly I'll happily take a bmi point off your hands, just one thoughWink Good to hear it is possible to upduffed without dtd 5 times+ in a FW, logically I know it only takes one.

I can't imagine taking a month off ttc incase it was a xmas baby, fair play, I'm just Far to impatient Confused

raddersmrs · 28/02/2016 15:27

It will drive me crazy Alice but just thinking of the little one in the long run really knowing people with birthdays on or very close to christmas. I know it's not end of the world if it does happen and it's more important to have a healthy baby irrelevant of when they're born but with my cycles there's a high chance it would be Christmas Day so I'm just thinking one month off won't hurt. Hopefully I may have a positive before then. That means catching first cycle trying though!

Sausagema · 28/02/2016 17:10

One fertile window, ONE and I am symptom spotting like a mad person. I think I have cramps FIVE days after when I think I ovulated. I more likely just have wind! Oh this relaxed thing will not go well! Next month is out for us as I think OH is away when I'm fertile.

wispaxmas · 28/02/2016 19:23

A good friend had her LB on Christmas Day a few years ago, but they celebrate his birthday on June 25th!

wispaxmas · 28/02/2016 19:25

Haha, sausage, don't worry, we will keep you grounded, or try Anyways.

The best thing I ever heard about the TWW was that any symptom you could possibly have that early in pregnancy is identical to symptoms of oncoming AF, so there is really no point of symptom spotting. I totally condone early testing, though Grin

raddersmrs · 28/02/2016 19:39

Wispa, I've never heard of anyone doing that before!

I just want AF to go now so I can get down to it .... I think this is going to be a slow week and month. Do people find time goes slower when counting down the days ttc? I'm not looking forward to my first tww... I'm such an impatient person! I'm going to try and not symptom spot... She says now.

themightymoosh · 28/02/2016 20:43

Haha! Glad I'm not the only one! Grin

themightymoosh · 28/02/2016 21:00

Wispa, a couple of my friends do the same with their xmas day babies. Family give vouchers for presents so they can buy gifts in the summer. Works for them!
