Yes they just said an internal scan, whats the camera thing like that they use? I am such a worrier.

Dizzy, do you think if you went private you could be prescribed clomid or progesterone before going down the IVF route? I've got a low BMI so wouldn't be able to have IVF on the NHS until I gained some weight though thats very hard for me, I'm perfectly healthy and eat well I've just always been this wayConfused

sunshinegirl12 · 04/12/2015 13:49

Haha Sunshine, thanks for that linkSmile I think I agree with you though, it does sound pretty bad too. x

DizzyMerry · 04/12/2015 14:03

I don't know if anyone would be happy to prescribe it to me otherwise I'd do it in a heartbeat sunshine. The NHS guidelines baffle me at times! So long as you're healthy then what's the issue?

mrsrose33 · 04/12/2015 14:40

sunshinegirl12 For an internal scan it's basically an internal ultrasound. So they use a long "probe" almost, which I guess would most closely resemble a normal vibrator in shape. It's hard to describe but it's not massively thick. They put a condom over it for hygene. It's really not so bad, it's nothing like as uncomfortable as a smear test for example - in my opinion anyway :)

Sunshinegirl2015 · 04/12/2015 16:13

Agree with mrsrose a smear test is worse. The internal scan probe is long and thin and felt a bit cold but didn't hurt. At times it maybe felt odd if they pushed it to one side. You wear a gown and lay on a bed and they put a pillow under your hips and dim the lights.

For me there were two women present, the one moving the probe who would call out numbers to a woman on a PC who'd type them in.

sunshinegirl12 · 04/12/2015 17:25

Dizzy, maybe if you speak to a private fertility consultant and say you're willing to pay for the prescription, surely aslong as it won't cause you any harm they will be willing to give it a go as they have nothing to lose. But that's just my opinion, there doesn't seem to be any logic with any of this. If it comes to the point where IVF is brought up I know that I will really push to try medication first.

Thanks Mrsrose, hadn't even considered it would be covered with a condom so thanks for making me awareBlush

I've wasted this afternoon googling the chances of conceiving after a year of trying, I don't know why I do this to myselfHmm

I did sunshine but the Dr was fixated on IVF due to DH's low motility (which had improved with vitamins). He said that because I have regular periods then my prog isn't an issue at all and he couldn't see how clomid would help. I'll look around in the new year to find another specialist but if anyone has any recommendations that would be great.

I was always googling before I had DD and just made everything so much worse. I didn't think it could ever happen either and just felt like my life was on hold. It will happen though you just have to keep going. It's the hardest thing ever but it will be worth it.

sunshinegirl12 · 04/12/2015 18:41

Its so hard isn't it, the thought of a life without my own family is heartbreaking. But hopefully I can make it my new years resolution to stop googling every little thing and just enjoy life. CakeBrew

Dizzy, might be worth getting another opinion especially if you would have to pay privately for IVF. How long did it take you to conceive your DD? Sorry if you've already said. x

mascaraisamust · 04/12/2015 19:49

You have been a chatty bunch today! Hard for me to keep up. Hope everyone is set for a nice weekend xx

It took 3 years sunshine and I don't think I've said this but I did have severe endometriosis and my tubes were closed with the adhesions. I was then put on zoladex to stop my periods for 6 months as the consulatant was worried about the endo returning and conceived a year after the zoladex injections.

sunshinegirl12 · 04/12/2015 20:35

Wow, 3 years Dizzy, I shouldn't really be moaning after a year then. Did you know before starting ttc that you had endometriosis and how were your tubes unblocked? It must be really tough having to go through it all again. Hope you don't mind all the questions.

Mascara, hope you're doing well x

mrsmugoo · 04/12/2015 20:58

How are you doing mascara?

I don't mind at all sunshine. I had a lap as part of my fertility investigations and it was then diagnosed. My tubes were closed by the adhesions and I had a cyst. Thankfully it was cleared out. I used to always have heavy and painful periods but didn't think much of it.
It really gets tough when you hit the year mark so I know how you're feeling. I get so fed up about it at times and I didn't think we'd have to go through this again but here we are. Just hoping we get lucky again.

DizzyMerry · 04/12/2015 22:00

Mrsu bleeding can trail off and then start off again not sure about the cramps though. Sorry to ask but have you been offered a scan to check that all is clear?

Sorry, don't kniw who said it, just read through quickly bit wanted to say that TSH needs to ideally be below 2 for conception purposes. Don't accept nearly 5 as normal.

mrsrose33 · 04/12/2015 23:10

Hi doobeedee, it was me who said that about my TSH levels. Yes I read that it needs to be between 1 & 2. Going to see my surgeon (who has treated my endometriosis) on Wednesday to talk about the thin lining and Thyroid levels. I'm feeling quite upset about it all really. It feels quite hopeless, so many hurdles! But it has only been 3 months so I'm really hoping I'll get lucky without further treatment.

Dizzy I've also had ovarian cysts and one on my fallopian tube was removed with my endometriosis in July. I was only diagnosed with endometriosis 4 years ago as I had a dermoid cyst on my ovary that was causing me pain so a blessing in disguise in some ways! So sorry you've all been having problems for so long, you all sound like a strong bunch of ladies though :)

mascaraisamust · 05/12/2015 00:03

Hi mrs and Mrs,

I'm good thanks, no real symptoms still though! That sickness was a one off! Bobs aren't really sore anymore which scares me a bit and got a bloated belly (had to wear a floaty dress to a party tonight as Im all bloat). Just holding onto the fact there was a heartbeat at 6 weeks so my chances are slightly improved (think its 68% chance of full term at 6 weeks if seen). So waiting it out again now (12 days until next scan). Had my flu jab the other day though. 7 weeks tomorrow, 8 by LMP but I know I'm a week behind with ovulating late. How are you guys feeling?

The other ladies, here to support in anyway I can! Things sound complex. It's hard not to imagine everything and anything is wrong with you but it could be something so simple.x

I've been thinking about what you ladies were saying about pregnacare and looking back at my charts the 3 months I've been taking it my periods have been a lot lighter and shorter without pain. Although I've had a tiny bit of spotting a day or 2 before AF this month I did manage an 11 day luteal phase, where its usually 10.

Think I'm going to stay on the Pregnacare this cycle rather than go on the Fertilaid as my AF is due xmas day so don't want to mess up my cycle and give myself false hope/extra stress.

Mascara, hope your ok, it must be so hard to relax about things but not too long until your next scan. Will you start to tell people then? x

mrsmugoo · 05/12/2015 08:04

Pregnacare as in prenatal vitamins?

Why do you think that would be helping?

Sunshinegirl2015 · 05/12/2015 08:26

My GP recommend pregnacare but I haven't taken in the last few months and I seem to have gone the opposite was with lighter flow and longer LP.

At £18 a pop for the couples tablets every month I decided to try a cheaper alternative. Currently taking seven seas although last month just took folic acid and b vitamins.

This is my 12 month (we started ttc in Jan) and AF is due Boxing Day.

Mascara thinking of you.

Sunshine let us know if you do take the fertilaid. I might get some in the new year if no BFP.

doobeedee · 05/12/2015 08:53

My TSH was borderline on the 1st test, 4.7 I think. I had another one a few months later and it was 2.3 which is not bad. You should have another test at some point as it can depend on time of day etc so you may not need medicating. It's stupid in this country over 5 is a prob but in other countries over 3 is. How can it be different?! There's an actual NHS document on the subject of TSH and fertility. Might be worth printing that out if you get nowhere. I'll see if I can find it.
