TTC #1 coming off the pill in December - anyone else in the same boat?!

Hi,

I am going to be coming off the pill after ten years plus on it after my pack finishes in December. Excited but also terrified about what my body is going to do once I'm without all the hormones!

Anyone else doing the same roughly the same time?

Shelb x

Bergamotmouse I just googled that and you're right! What a relief! I never knew that! Don't get me wrong I think twins are a lovely idea, but I don't know how people cope with the dual feeding, changing, sleeping! Confused And what a thing for your poor tummy to have to go through! One in there would be plenty!....... Have I just jinxed myself?! Shock

Runner05 · 21/10/2015 19:55

Extract from NHS website

"older mothers are more likely to have non-identical twins because they are more likely to release more than one egg during ovulation"

Sorry ladies age related non-identical twins has nothing to do with family history. At mid-thirties you become more likely to randomly release more than one egg. Both of these eggs can be fertilised and become non-identical twins.

I also have my fingers firmly crossed that this does not happen to me (it happened to a friend of mine though) I can't imagine how hard it would be to care for two babes especially first time round.

Have fun on your hols Purple Smile

Apprentice night tonight!

Morning ladies, how are we all today?

I'm starting to think I hang out on this forum too much as despite still being on the pill I appear to be symptom spotting Confused

Ni4444 · 22/10/2015 12:44

Haha brilliant!! Well, it's not 100% effective so could be Runner05!! What have you spotted?! I've had so many headaches the last two or three weeks. It might just be coming off the pill as I know I started to get hormone headaches on my pill free week so maybe my hormones are adjusting. Mind you it could also be all the lurgy that's going around at the mo!

shelbTa · 22/10/2015 13:05

Hi ladies,

Runner - remind me are you still on the pill? What symptoms have you had?

Ah Ni did you get headaches on the pill? I get really bad migraines during my break week.

Off to see the docs this aft to get new pill prescription until end of November - going to talk to her about it all, fertility at my age etc, see what she says, I'll report back!!

Shelb x

Oh no Runner don't be joining me on the symptom spotting. I'm going mad here .
I definitely spend too much time on here I'm always reading stuff baby related. Or having a giggle at the Mumsnet Classic board.

Runner05 · 22/10/2015 13:08

Don't say things like that Ni you have me poas just in case! Confused I'm just hormonal really af is due sat but I desperately want to start trying. No way OH would let me though as we agreed to be drinking buddies for the Christmas parties.

Headaches could be a symptom, when are you due?

(Mums net, where it's perfectly acceptable to ask virtual strangers about the intimate workings of their body haha Blush)

Runner05 · 22/10/2015 13:14

Good luck with the nurse shelb

It's to late for me Bunch I'm too far gone to save myself from the evil that is symptom spotting and ttc addiction.

Symptoms include upset tummy, near constant peeing, over emotional and yesterday I had a metallic taste in my mouth... But to be fair I might have just put my lip balm through the wash again Hmm

StarkyTheDirewolf · 22/10/2015 14:14

Im starting to think I hang out on this forum too much as despite still being on the pill I appear to be symptom spotting
We also haven't even started TTC properly yet. And I spent the last two days partially convinced I was already pregnant. More chance of it being AF or wind that a baby!

Ni4444 · 22/10/2015 15:06

Shelb, yeah I'm not someone who ever gets headaches usually but over the last yr occasional headachey days on my week off. I think I read somewhere that as you age your natural level of oestrogen drops so the change from the oestrogen level on the pill to your natural level on your week off prompts headaches.

Runner, I can't even bear to think it might be a symptom!!!... Although of course the optimist in me keeps thinking that! I reckon ovulation day was Monday so that would be a crazy early symptom!

BunchOfBobs · 22/10/2015 15:27

Eek I love how everyone is symptom spotting already. It's not just me!

Since DH mentioned he thought my dizzy spells could be due to BFP I now can't help but symptom spot. Though I know I can't be. Too early, too easy.
I seemed to ovulate a week early this month and we Dtd two days before (all signs of ovulating but no proof I actually did, must remember that) and during the time of fertile period/ovulation. Since then had dizzy spells( but have a history inner ear infections could be that), Tea tastes awful 50% of the time (but have changed kettle and I'm blaming that), hair seems fuller. Minor skin breakout, needing to wee all the time but I have NO sore boobs or heightened emotions etc etc. like I said I know in myself I'm not and I'm just setting myself up for disappointment. I hate that I'm being like this in month one of TTC but I can't seem to help it.

What a bunch of numptys we're turning out to be Smile

BunchOfBobs · 22/10/2015 15:28

Oh and forgot to say headaches. For the past week now.

Ni4444 · 22/10/2015 15:33

Ladies, this forum is so helpful because if I kept going on to the Oh about all of this he'd probably be having second thoughts about me!! Wink
Bunch of Bobs what date do you reckon you ovulated?

Ni4444 · 22/10/2015 15:36

And Bunch when did you come off the pill (if you were on it to begin with!) Sorry you may have said earlier but I missed it!

Runner05 · 22/10/2015 16:09

I couldn't agree with you more Ni my OH already thinks I'm a obsessive nutcase. He'd probably lock me up if he knew how true that is!

shelbTa · 22/10/2015 16:29

Blimey bunch I'm not surprised you're symptom spotting with that lot! Blush you never know but you've probs got the right approach to not get too overexcited she says waiting to go into the doctors excited at the thought of talking about fertility and babies outloud with someone

Just spoke to OH. I've been concerned for ages that the pill is making it harder for me to diet/lose weight so I suggested that I come of the pill after this packet and try to lose some weight before Christmas... He said yes Grin

We're still not going to activly ttc until December but im still excited!!!

BunchOfBobs · 22/10/2015 16:58

Ni I came off the pill back in April, due to not agreeing with a change in pill type. Started actively TTC this month. Cycle not quite settled down yet had anytime between 12 days and 33 days. I think I ovulated between the 13th and 16th of this month due to ovulation pain and EWCM (tmi?!). I wouldn't have thought of anything of it if I wasn't dizzy and DH didn't put the thoughts in my mind. The headaches are getting on my wick now though as it's been everyday for a week. With the way my cycle is too I have no clue when AF is due. According the the tracking apps it could be between the 31st and 5th but it could be tomorrow if my body felt like it. Rather annoying. The moment I get sore boobs I'll be Poas like there no tomorrow. Until then I will just wait for AF to arrive as I know she will.

Ni4444 · 22/10/2015 17:25

Bunch, there's no such thing as tmi I reckon! It's all helpful to know! I must give EWCM a go next month! Presuming I'll have a regular cycle AF will be due 2nd...but I haven't done myself any favours not waiting for cycle to regulate after coming off the pill so who knows really! Just trying to minimise alcohol intake just in case though!

Runner I was on Yasmin for years then 6 months ago GP swapped me to cheaper version Lucette. I'm convinced it has caused weight gain...that was part of my initial thinking about coming off it. So far I'm really glad I did, despite the headaches! I lost 3lbs the first week...clearly all water retention/bloating, but I've never had that problem on yasmin. Glad you convinced OH! It'll give you time to get familiar with your natural cycle anyway!

shelbTa · 22/10/2015 17:27

Exciting news runner!!!!! When does your packet finish?

Well, just been to the docs and she was all casual like 'yeah you're fine for fertility at your age, yeah don't worry your periods should return to normal straight away', was not expecting that! Confused

Last time I came off the pill I suffered major hair loss though (and the pill I'm on is aimed to combat that) so that in itself if making me worry a little, was really distressing last time around

Ni I wanted Yasmin but they gave me Cilest and ever since I've just put on more and more weight. Really depressing as when I started on them I was really happy with my weight.
I think after we have the baby I'll go on a non hormonal contraception.

Shelb my last pill is tomorrow. Woohoo!!!
Fingers crossed you don't have any problems coming off the pill this time x

Pinklily1 · 22/10/2015 19:52

Hi everyone

I'll own up to being another symptom spotter (even though we aren't trying yet!) and OH thinks i'm crackers with all the baby talk, but I can't help it! I'm also terrible at thinking about plans for next year - we got a wedding invite the other day for Summer 2016 and I was away in my head imagining maternity dresses to wear, even though I may not even be pregnant by then. I'm looking at it as positive thinking!

Runner - I was on Cilest too and have been for the last 3 years. I stopped taking it in September, had a withdrawal bleed and am now waiting for AF. If i've got the maths stuff figured out, this is cycle day 29, and I feel like its going to start soon, so fingers crossed. At the minute I'm desperately hoping for periods to make sure my cycle gets back to normal, which is weird when from January I'll be desperately hoping for no periods!! I've had no negative effects of coming off Cilest, so fingers crossed its the same for you.

Pinklily1 · 22/10/2015 19:54

PS Shelb - that's encouraging from the nurse :-) It's nice to hear a doctor/ nurse who isn't doom and gloom about fertility for us 30 plusers!

Ifiwasabadger · 22/10/2015 20:02

Can I give some positive emcouragement as this was me...a few years ago.

Stopped in the December, was pregnant two weeks later! Oh, and I was 36 :)

It's not all doom and gloom....good luck!

Pinklily1 · 22/10/2015 21:24

That's encouraging, thanks badger!
