Peardrop - age 33, TTC cycle #9, DS is 26 months (stopped bf soon to be 4 months ago). Af returned when DS 14months, currently on CD14 and have had 4 flashing smileys. Praying for a static smiley tomorrow! Dangling legs in air!

Hello, can I join you? Recently decided to start ttc dc3. Dd is 13 months, bf on demand all day and night af has not returned so I'm going into things blind so to speak.

Need to sort out folic acid and vitamins so I need to research what I can or can't take while bf.

Pumkinpie1 · 07/01/2016 17:18

Woo my AF arrived yesterday so let's hope I ovulate this month!
Hi gisla I've done a small bit of research taking seven sea pregnancy plus vitamins the don't contain vitamin A for when TTC have 400 of folic acid have the added bonus of an omega three capsule. I compared them against pregnacare pretty much the same but the Swiss ones for BF have vit A so no good for TTC hope that's helps

RPopz · 07/01/2016 17:46

Hi ladies.... Just poking my head around the door tentatively! Can I join you? Still bfing my 12mo boy. I don't offer don't refuse in the day but he still feeds 2 hourly overnight.... Shock I've had one AF since he was born but that was a couple of months ago now. Me and DH stopped using protection at Christmas. Not feeling hugely impatient... YET. Don't really like not having much control over the situation, though don't want to force DS to wean early either.

Gisla · 07/01/2016 21:14

Thanks for the info pumkin, you've saved me a job Grin

tillytubby · 11/01/2016 14:25

Can I join you ladies?
I've just turned 35 and am trying for #2 whilst feeding my 2.5 year old boob monster! Can it be done?
We are on cycle #1 and Af due in 4 days. Already had a BFN but tested far too early so my own fault really. I have sore boobs, nausea etc but get all that through PMS anyway and the fatigue is constant looking after a toddler!

expatvet · 11/01/2016 19:36

Hi guys! Mind if I join you? TTC#2 while feeding my boob monster of a 19mth old...we had a couple of feed free days in December (back to all day all night now though) and I am sure I ovulated on Christmas Eve (ewcm, a bit of pain and v.horny -having had my libido in a ditch since ds was born!) Unfortunately didn't capitalise on it due to poorly clingy d's (hand foot and mouth) and looks like af has just arrived. But I'm so happy if this means I'm cycling again!! Will be trying my best to dtd as much as possible around ny next ovulation (assuming everything doesn't grind to a Holt again!). Right now to catch up with the thread and who ever one is!!!!

expatvet · 12/01/2016 07:23

Congratulations pear and the other bfp'ers! Great to see that ttc while bfeeding is possible! Hope your pgs are going smoothly xxx

lullaby23 · 20/01/2016 09:28

Hi to fellow newbies!
pumkin great news about AF arriving, very positive!
Well I'm still ploughing on....DS has only not needed a night feed once (when I accidentally fell asleep with the monitor on mute Blush and DH sorted him out when he woke, luckily he was up at silly o'clock doing work) so not much change. But similar to you expat I've had some ewcm and felt a bit er randier than usual so fingers crossed that means something.

Fingers crossed for a positive month for all!

expatvet · 23/01/2016 10:28

lullaby hope the randy feeling means something is happening!! So here I'm on cd13...thoughts I'd use up the one's I had left over from my last ttc journey but nothing yet....but definately feel like I'm getting ready to O.... 'friendly' feelings towards dh despite lack of sleep (ds is still cosleeping and night feeds are up and down...)....fingers crossed for a positive opk soon...then I'll be jumping his bones!!!! Good luck all. Xx

Pumkinpie1 · 23/01/2016 11:21

Got my fingers crossed for both you guys expat & lullaby!
I'm on cycle day 18 made sure we dtd every other day so just hoping I did ovulate and we are in the 20% that have a positive in the 1st month Wink

expatvet · 25/01/2016 04:25

Fx pumpkin! Which day will you test? We managed to dtd (a rare occur ancestors in our cosleeping bed!) Yesterday (cd14) but no positive opk yet so am wondering if the ?teething related? Milk marathon has shit everything down again...? Waiting to see! Xx

expatvet · 25/01/2016 04:33

lullaby another 'trailing spouce' here.dh is with the UN and we're based on zimbabwe...you? Xx

DougalTheCheshireCat · 25/01/2016 21:48

Pear, I saw your amazing news but was on phone (not got the app) and couldn't reply.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Such fab news.

It does give me hope, kind of, although I'm very down the dumps tonight. Just at end of second cycle with Clomid, period starting, another 23 day cycle. In some ways it feels like i was doing better without the drugs.

Out of interest Pear (if you are still around) how long between stopping BF and your BFP?

I am considering that its not even two months since i fully stopped yet. A breast feeding expert friend of mine said ideally you want at least a three month gap. I feel like maybe more recovery is needed.

DH and i have agreed we will park all the pro-active treatments and stuff until we have finished renovating and move back home. For a year now we've been doing both and its just too much, and i feel there have been many cycles where we've DTD exhausted to meet the timing, rather than happy, rested, making it our top priority.

The gynaecologist is offering more serious intervention (IUI) if we want it, apart from anything if we're doing that it has to be when we are less busy.

I will be 39 in the spring, though, and i do worry about that.

On the plus side DD has had her first fever with no BF and has been absolutely fine. we've been doing lots of co-sleeping (which i love) which for the longest time i thought i had to give up to get her to stop BF. It is lovely to have it back.

Wish me some baby dust for early 2016 please ladies...

Writerwannabe83 · 25/01/2016 23:11

Hello, another member wanting to join please.

I'm 32, have a DS who is 22 months old and he still breast feeds 3-4 times a day but never overnight. I do shift work though which means sometimes he goes over 48 hours without a feed and is fine.

When my DS was 4 months old I had a period, then nothing for about another 3 months and then it was another 3 months before the next one too. When DS was 1 year old I had a Mirena Coil put in and I bled almost daily for 7 months which was just awful. It did then slow down and I had what I assume was a period about every 3 weeks but then it just stopped altogether. I can't remember for the life of me when I last had a period.

Anyhow, I'm having my Mirena taken out this Wednesday and then TTC can commence. I really hope breast feeding doesn't impede on it too much...

Pumkinpie1 · 26/01/2016 11:40

Hi expat I know this sounds crazy but me and hubby have decided not to do ovulation test for a couple of months just incase it takes the fun out of things. I'll prob wait to see if AF arrives due 2nd Feb if I have 28 day cycle ( I have no idea what cycle length I have as first 1) n do a preg test a few days after 2nd.
Sorry to hear your having a bad time dougal try n keep your chin up sound like you have lots going on
Hi wannabe nice to hear from u

lullaby23 · 27/01/2016 12:15

expat Zimbabwe and UN? Wow! Not so exciting here, Singapore.

DougalTheCheshireCat · 27/01/2016 14:31

Welcome Writer! Think I am the (sporadic) veteran of the thread now.

Hopefully this means I get a BFP shortly.

And thank you Pumpkin. things weird here. Heavy spotting (so a spoonful, not a stain) since Monday, but no AF yet. tested negatively this morning.

We'd booked a holiday to escape the stress, but now it turns out it is in a Zika area. DH is having a right wibbly about whether we should go. Our week there would be my fertile time, but we could avoid. He is worried by some reports saying it can linger in sperm.

Such a downer, and I can't honestly figure out if DH is justified or totally over-egging the worry.

Writer. I feel like we should have some sort of summary of what we've all been trying. Here are some thoughts, in no particular order:

  • track your cycle. Loads of apps for this.
  • if you want to do a bit more, temp. Take Charge of Your Fertility and various websites explain how. the idea is it is one of the most accurate ways of confirming ovulation.
  • I find LH urine testing more realiable, but temping has helped me figure out a lot of things
  • get more sleep
  • have a look at your diet - lots of good fats (avocado...) and exercise
  • make and drink bone broth more on this here heidibrockmyre.com/blog/1244. Excellent for breast feeding recovery, and to support the hormones that manage your cycle

I could tell you plenty about short cycles, pre period spotting and low progesterone / luteal phase. Others know more about other stuff (long cycles etc)

Writerwannabe83 · 27/01/2016 17:11

Thanks Dougal - my Mirena came out this morning so it's feeling very real now.

God I wish I could get more sleep, I get about 5-6 hours a night, sometimes 7 if I'm really, really lucky!!

What Apps do you recommend?

I can't really do temps as I'm up and down during the night due to DS being a little sod at times which means temps wouldn't be accurate and reliable.

Pumkinpie1 · 28/01/2016 22:05

Good idea dougal about putting down what we're all trying.

I'm not doing too much at the min
I'm tracking my cycle on a few apps fertility friend and bump watch.
Trying to dtd as regular as possible
Trying to drink more water and cut out caffeine.
Trying to get generally a bit healthier make more time to exercise
Hope that helps

Mumof1sofar · 28/01/2016 22:08

I just popped back to check on you all & im so happy to see pear's wonderful news! Congrats pear! Fantastic :)

lullaby23 · 30/01/2016 10:06

writer I use the Glow app though it is a bit cheesy / Anerican.

AF arrived for me today first time in 18 months so a bit weird!

lullaby23 · 30/01/2016 10:39

Woops clearly that should say American!

Writerwannabe83 · 30/01/2016 15:02

Thanks lullaby

I had previously looked at the Ovia App but it was asking for details about cycles and my last period which I have no idea about so it seemed pretty pointless.

I had my Mirena Coil out two days ago and have been bleeding heavily since and I feel like crap. This happened to me when I had my first Mirena out (2 years ago) but it only lasted about 3-4 days so I'm just riding it out.

lullaby23 · 01/02/2016 00:25

Yeah I had that issue with fertility friend too, seems pointless! Hope your bleeding calms down soon Flowers

espresso14 · 01/02/2016 12:17

Many congratulations Pear, that had been a long time coming.

I stopped looking at this page, as I needed to step away from thinking about it. In the end, after getting down about BFN's, I weaned my daughter on Boxing Day (1st day of period), 3 weeks before she was 2. We were down to 1 a day, but she was getting increasingly vocal about it in public when tired, and I wasn't comfortable with that (mine and society's problem, not her's). Plus, I was getting sick of TTC (esp as she'd been in a long phase of of waking loads, and in my bed from early in the night)

Weaning was easy-peesy, not a tear shed by her (lots by me!), some whining every afternoon for about 4 days, easily solved by cuddles and telly. Lots of Christmas distraction helped.

Anyway, 2 weeks later, I conceived (I'm now 5 weeks). The cycle after stopping was different, ovulation signs occurred sooner than usual. I'm sure in theory I could have got pregnant while bf-ing, but I have a hunch the bf hormones were making it harder, even though I'd had periods since about 20 months.

I think we weaned at the right time, she could deal with it, and I was really over it - and we got rewarded with a pregnancy straight away (let's hope it gets through the risky stage). Fingers crossed for all others on here, whichever path you choose.
