So, on the back of a run of rather fantastic success stories, it's time to start another thread for those of us still driving ourselves a bit nuts trying to work out why number 2 seems to be so elusive. New frustrated, obsessive testers always welcome (as are our lovely graduates) and let's hope this thread turns out as many success stories as the last.

Good grief, sorry for coming and splodging misery all over the thread!

LittlePoot · 19/07/2015 22:45

Ha - don't be daft- that's exactly what its here for. I know what you mean about the limbo - that's what does my head in. Well, as well as the obsessive ov testing, dtd on the "right" days and symptom spotting before the inevitable realisation it hasn't worked....again. I'm in my sane part of the month - that part where its too late to shag (apart from for fun of course - ha, as if!) and still too early to think about symptoms. By the end of this week I'll be a wreck again no doubt. But yes, if someone could just tell me that it won't ever work then I could just move on. I'm not doing anything like avoiding booking holidays just in case (like I think I did at the very start), but I'm staying fairly still in my career and not clearing out all the baby stuff etc just in case.

OutVileJelly · 20/07/2015 09:23

Same here, on the career front. I am going for things now, but I spent a good year stagnating, and letting opportunities slip by. No more of that, anyway!

I have no baby things left at all. They have all been "borrowed" by friends who said things like "you will want it back soon enough!" Ha.

DD is long past the picture book stage, and wants to give them away to make more room in her book case for Harry sodding Potter. I won't get rid of them though, not her lovely books that I chose so carefully and read to her every night.

OutVileJelly · 20/07/2015 09:27

Whoops, posted too soon. LittlePoot, hope this is your month and you don't have the pre AF crash and burn. Are you taking any supplements? I am wondering whether to try some again.

Guess where I am going today....a Bonnie Babies competition. I am only working for 3 hours today, so "free" to watch my nephew while SIL takes the youngest on stage. It's almost funny. I may as well carry around a hair shirt and a small whip :)

diamondsparkles · 20/07/2015 09:57

Hi everyone
Can I join? You all seem lovely and supportive and that's just what I need. Been ttc number 2 since June 2014 and have definitely got to the stage where I feel it will never happen. Have tried everything- being obsessive, trying to be more relaxed, taking every kind of pre conception vitamin, the clear blue trial, reflexology, she oak, doing the opks, not doing opks and generally driving myself completely insane and not a hint of a bfp Sad. I won't tell you how many pregnancy tests I peed on last cycle as I was utterly convinced it had to be the month, it wasn't and it was shameful Blush
I've got a ds who's 3 who really wants a baby brother or sister and it breaks my heart when I can't even do that for him. My dh wants at least one more child and I cry when I'm on my own as I feel so useless.
Last month hit me really hard so I'm hoping joining you will help my sanity Smile

LittlePoot · 20/07/2015 16:17

Hello diamond - welcome to the thread. You've definitely come to the right place. In fact, I went to the Drs about some strange breathlessness thing I've been getting and after some basic testing and talking and me then very unexpectedly bursting into tears at the mention of having been referred for infertility testing, the Dr wisely decided it's entirely caused by stress. Her advice (amongst other things) was to make sure I'm well supported by friends, dh and some kind of support group. So there you go - I now have you guys on prescription!

Supplements wise, I just take conception vitamins (just pregnacare I think) and have just started this month taking myo-inositol powder. It's meant to help pcos (which I don't have) but I've also seen a couple of studies where it improved egg quality for people not getting decent eggs during ivf. It apparently doesn't have any bad side effects so I thought it might be worth a try. I'm not keen on things that mess with my hormones too directly (so didn't join in with the soy isoflavones lots of people here tried - many successfully, some not so much). So this seemed like something harmless and possibly helpful that I could try for a bit. I might also start taking evening primrose oil before ov again which I did for a bit - it might calm down my pmt if nothing else and again I don't know of any bad side effects.

Diamond - what's the clear blue trial and what is she oak? How did you find them? Obviously they didn't work for you (yet) but any thoughts on whether you'd recommend them? Because I really need more things to obsess about..... Smile

diamondsparkles · 20/07/2015 19:31

Hi littlepoot - thank you for the lovely welcome, I know exactly how you feel with the stressed feeling but good to know we're on prescription for you! I've not heard of that powder but sounds interesting. I know what you mean about soy isoflavones - I did think about it but was too worried about it messing up my cycle. I've tried evening primrose oil and heard great things about it but it didn't make too much difference for me.
I did the clear blue trial back in March - just went on the website and signed up for it, I think they do a few so if there isn't one on at the moment there should be soon. Have a look at the website and see. I had to do a month of collecting urine samples and then send them off - the good points were the free digital ovulation tests and pregnancy tests but the bad points were having to store urine in the fridge and then posting the samples back (embarrassing questions in the post office)!
She oak is a herbal thing - you have 7 drops a day and it is supposed to calm you down when you have worries about fertility. I was on another thread and the lady who started on it just before me got her bfp but I didn't. Google it, it does look good but sadly not for me. I thought I felt calmer last month until the crazy time of testing set in but it could work for you.
Whereabouts are you in your cycle now? I'm cd8 so time to get out the clearblue opks soon but really think what is the point, even with a peak fertility and shagging lots around that time still nothing Sad

LittlePoot · 21/07/2015 08:16

I've lost count slightly this month but I think I'm due on about next Wednesday so by the weekend I'll be obsessively symptom spotting and breaking out the pregnancy tests. Obviously I know exactly how you feel about it feeling like a waste of time but if you read back through the last bit of the last thread, we just had some bfps from people who'd been trying a year and a half and more, so it definitely can happen! Dh's brother has just announced they're expecting their second after we had our firsts three weeks apart. Obviously that's lovely news, but it does feel like a bit of a kick in the teeth. Sad

VillageFete · 21/07/2015 10:10

Hello & welcome newcomers! Really hope this thread brings you luck.

After some advice - so clearblue still gave me a high fertility flashing face on Sunday (7th one) I ran out of tests and used a cheap one yesterday (Monday) which was a very clear positive result. Done another today and it's negative. Had sex Saturday afternoon and Monday night. SO...... Have I still got a chance? Does it look like I ovulated on Monday? Find it strange that the clearblue didn't give me a peak result on Sunday.

LittlePoot · 21/07/2015 13:03

I found last month that the Internet cheapie sticks gave me a positive the night before I got the static face on clearblue. So you might have got a static face Sunday or Monday if you'd have had more sticks. Either way, your timing sounds like it's covered all the bases. But more importantly, what's all this nonsense about sex in the afternoon? How on earth did you manage that?!

OP posts:
LittlePoot · 21/07/2015 13:07

Sorry - reading too quickly - Monday static face would have fitted with what I found. Not sure exactly what that means for ovulation though - I guess Monday or Tuesday?

OP posts:
OutVileJelly · 21/07/2015 18:06

Ovulation really confuses me! I have only ever used cheapie OPKs, but always get really strong positives. I get strong OV pains too, so I can go by that. I usually try to have sex the day or day after I get the positive opk/ov pains.

Had sex this morning and starting the twinges in my left side now, so I hope I am timing it well!

VillageFete · 21/07/2015 18:47

Little - Grin DD was at my Mum's for a few hours and I just knew I wanted to relax on Sat night with a takeaway & glass of wine, didn't want to bother with all that intercourse nonsense that evening, so I seized the afternoon!!

Will DTD again tonight & then hopefully all bases will be covered, would have liked to have DTD on Sunday too but never mind. Then there'll be yet again another bloody two week wait Angry

Waitandwine · 22/07/2015 00:27

Can I join too? We're ttc no2 for 12 months with a mc before Christmas. Been temping but they are all over the place. Did clear blue last month which gave a smiley at cd15 and cd20 on a 32 day cycle, I thought you should only get one. Thinking of going to docs but not sure if they think I was a time waster as have my dd.

Brindler · 22/07/2015 08:14

Hi waitandwine welcome to this fab thread. I'm actually a recent graduate after just getting my bfp after 27 long months of trying! Saw your post and just wanted to say it's def worth going to see your gp. You can still be referred to a fertility clinic and can have most blood tests done via your gp to check your hormones/if you're ovulating etc. they will prob also want to check your dh. You still qualify for clomid etc if you're not ovulating - the only thing you can't have is ivf on the nhs. I eventually had a laparoscopy which I think is what helped me conceive. It can be a long process though so def get down there!

OutVileJelly · 22/07/2015 08:23

You should go to the GP anyway wait. Though mine said that because i am under 30 and have a child already, i will be pretty far down the priority list until i have been trying for 2 years. But my area is notoriously awful for fertility services, so I kind of expected that

Metalhead · 22/07/2015 14:49

Hello all, just popping in to say we had our 20 week scan this morning and all is looking good! Smile Also spoke to a doctor about requesting an elcs, which he tried his best to put me off the idea, but hopefully if I just stick to my guns they'll agree to it eventually.

Welcome to all the newbies, I hope you'll get as much support from this thread as I did, and of course I'll keep my fingers crossed for more good news soon. (Looking at you little, your turn next! Wink)

VillageFete · 22/07/2015 15:28

Hi Metalhead So glad all is well!

Quick question about ELCS. I had a terrible time last time (induced, 28 hour labour, baby back to back, failed forceps & then emergency section which resulted in me having PTSD & PD) so was thinking (if the time comes) i'd probably be better off with a planned section next time. When can this be discussed with dr's? Only at 20 week scan?

Waitandwine · 22/07/2015 17:17

Oh that's really useful, thanks ???? I'll be brave and book an appointment next week. I'm just coming up to being 37, so age is not on my side, so I really need to get myself sorted!

Brindler · 22/07/2015 18:30

Hey metal! That's great news! And you're halfway there now! Even my 12 week scan feels like a lifetime away...!

LittlePoot · 23/07/2015 08:28

Welcome wait, and I agree - do go to the GP, but just don't expect too much! But they should at least check out the basics and that could be helpful.

Lovely news metal - so glad you're doing well. I'm sure you're right that if you just stick to your guns about the elcs they'll get you booked in eventually.

As for me, I'm booked in for a private consultation next Tuesday so let's see how that goes.

OP posts:
EmFlat · 23/07/2015 21:09

I'll be ELCS'ing as well, Metal, so I'm glad you asked that question, Village! Haven't even registered with the midwives yet but will tell them I'll be electing a c-section due to my previous traumatic experience. Do I explain straight away? They'd better not try to talk me out of it •angry face•

Metalhead · 24/07/2015 13:51

village and em I think it's best to tell them early on you want an Elcs so they can serious and won't change your mind. It sounds like I might have to wait until 34 weeks though for a final decision, which is rubbish! But I've done a lot of reading on the risks so I'll be going in prepared for battle...

Good luck with your appointment on Tuesday little, I hope it brings you some more options.

Metalhead · 24/07/2015 13:52

that should have read 'so they can see you're serious'...

Fruitbatyogi · 25/07/2015 06:09

Grr driving my self crazy here had convinced my self that this month was the month, 2ww - painful boobs and lately cramps, and pain in the c section scar, but this morning 12 dpo bfn - feel crushed again -ok I know af's not arrived yet (faint hope)
I seem to be on such a roller coaster, know I really should go to the GPas we've been trying 8 months and I'm nearly 40 but just feel that I will get all hope crushed there.

Sorry for the misery party here, I do feel better for getting it out though.
