Hey Littlepiggie - no hanging around for you then! It seems we're going to start before Christmas, but in a very relaxed way I think. Took 4 years to conceive DD, so not going to stress about it yet.

Lots of luck to you.

Its funny how we seem to go along with what our mums did there is three years between me and my brother which is what i am hoping for mine

pudding77 · 14/11/2006 11:03

I loved being pregnant and had a really good pregnancy with my first but still, I'd just rather have them all over & done with in a relatively short time!

catew - in my case I'm more going with what my mil did, there are seven years between my brother & me and I really regret not having the closeness with him my dh has with his sisters (2 yrs between each of them0.

littlepiggie · 15/11/2006 20:32

Certainly after Christas for us (following a MC in Oct). As soon as we are off malaria tablets from Christmas hols in India we are down to business!

pudding77 · 17/11/2006 20:39

Sorry to hear about the mc, g.

Do you have family in India or are you just going away for xmas? Sounds great!

Lucy1977 · 17/11/2006 21:50

Hi everyone

I haven't posted on the conception forum before.

We're also going to start TTC baby no 2 in January, DD will be 1 in Feb.

I went on the pill 9 wks ago but came off again 2 wks ago, I went on it because I didn't want to get pregnant before Christmas but now I'm worried it'll take ages to get out of my system (it was cerazette). Still haven't had an AF since the one before we conceived DD last yr (still breastfeeding) so not sure when we'll be able to conceive.

Good luck everyone and lots of babydust

Lucy

gillian1973 · 17/11/2006 22:26

Thanks Pudding. No family, just a holiday over Christmas and New Year. It was a trip we had our eye on for ages and almost booked but then I discovered I was pregnant so we couldn't do it because I would need to take malaria tablets.

Unfortunatley 9 weeks into it, I mc and the first thing we did after we came back from hospital was to book the holiday. It is our 'we are running away from everything' treat.

Went to get our vaccines this afternoon. The nurse praised me for having done my research since I told her that I knew it would be foolish to TTC whilst on malaria tablets but I wanted ones which would clear from my system soon after we came back. I have to take them for a little while when we come back but she said that we can TTC straight away after the last pill is taken which should be end Jan/early Feb.

Hope this organisation pays off!!

Good luck to everyone here too.

StrangeTown · 17/11/2006 23:24

Hello All (esp Gillian). We will be trying in Jan too. Hopefully one of you organised ladies will keep this thread going for us or start a new one at the time .
I also had a m/c in Sept and am going on holiday over New Year so didn't want to drink and TTC at the same time. I'm going on hols with big group of family and friends and didn't want them pestering me about are you pregnant or not whilst on holiday. Look forward to chatting to you all in Jan!

littlepiggie · 18/11/2006 19:45

so sorry for those who had m/c, extra babydust for you.

Lucy, my AF is all over the place as well, had one 1st sept, one 5 weeks later, now 6 weeks since last one, so will prob take a while.

Hi After Christmas TTCers!

Has anyone heard about taking cough medicine to increase discharge so that you know when you're ovulating? I'm not going to try this myself but wondered how it worked?

When we conceived DD we were doing it every other day for 10 days during days 10-20 (previous cycle was first off the pill and lasted 75 days!)

Lucy

HelloMama · 18/11/2006 22:00

hello! we are going to start TTC in January too. I have a ds aged 2.4. Have been broody for a long time but have had a pretty stressful year. Things are now back on track. Good luck to us all xxxx

littlepiggie · 18/11/2006 22:06

did you get a bfp on your first proper cycle?

OP posts:
HelloMama · 18/11/2006 22:07

Lucy1977 Guaifenesin is the active ingredient in some cough medicines. It works by loosening secretions in the chest when you have a cough, but also loosens any other secretions, for example those in the cervix. In certain parts of cycle the cervical secretions are there to act as a plug so that nasties (can't think of a better word!) can't get in to affect the delicate lining of the womb all ready to accept a fertilised egg. When the secretions are all thin and loose (like at the time around ovulation), they actively help sperm into the right part of the womb for ovulation. This is partly how contraceptive pills work, by thickening this mucous so sperm can't get in. The cough medicine has the opposite effect,a lthough only ones that have Guaifenesin as the active ingredient.

Phew, sorry that was a bit of an essay!

HelloMama · 18/11/2006 22:09

We got a BFP on our first proper cycle, although i didn't wait for a period after stopping my pill before TTC, IYSWIM.

Lucy1977 · 18/11/2006 22:46

Thanks Hellomama for explaining about the cough medicine.

Yes, we were really lucky and got a BFP the first month of trying. I was on the pill for 10 years so when I came off it we were just letting my body get back to normal. I had no idea my first cycle would last 75 days!

Wow, I didn't go into this much detail the first time - I have to admit I'm a bit bewildered by some of the abbreviations . We just decided we were ready for baby and it all happened really quickly! Maybe the second time around we'll have to be much more organised!
