TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

chandeler you do have a way with words, that made me laugh Smile and chuckle to myself.
mistletoe I too had an awful receptionist on Wednesday, didn't want to print my results out so I can take it to my scan appt!
No need for some people's attitudes towards woman TTC Angry anyway don't let the idiots get to us ay?! Hope results come to you today and they are good news xxx

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 14:33

well I've phoned back twice since and I'm still no wiser. I'm now waiting on a call from a doctor who is able to tell me the result. Can't help but feel it's a waste of the doctors time though. All I need is a number ideally higher than 30!

Pebbles086 · 05/06/2015 15:51

Sorry to hear that mistletoe, and it's now the weekend so you'll have to wait till Monday? Is the GP close to where you live, could you not pop in and ask for a print out of your bloods? My GP does it. If you don't get them today, try put it out your mind till Monday. Xxx

Cobblestones · 05/06/2015 15:59

Oh no! I had to wait a day for the results and I went crazy.... It's the worst thing... They're so inefficient! Urghh so sorry you're in this. Popping down to the gp sounds like a good idea

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 16:03

Results are in.........drum roll please......Progesterone was 56 on day 22 Grin I'm so bloody happy. First time of ovulating in 9 months!

Cobblestones · 05/06/2015 16:04

Battenburg - I definitely second chandelier. Don't blame yourself pls. It's tough as it is..

So I'm getting some weird cramping like pains... My brain doesn't know what to make of it.. Period like cramps or.... I really don't want to get my hopes up.

Cobblestones · 05/06/2015 16:06

Congrats!!!!!!!!! Our posts crossed I think

Excellent news!!! And so glad u didn't have to wait over the weekend to know! Ooooh this means opk strips do definitely work for us

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 16:09

I never got a line darker than the control though. It literally went dark and lighter within about 6 hours so could of easily missed it. I'm so pleased and DP isn't answering his phone

VixxFace · 05/06/2015 16:15

I spoke to my doctor they said wealthy areas will prescribe clomid for free but where I live they don't! so looks like I will have to pay the 250 a month.

battenberg123 · 05/06/2015 16:21

congrats mistletoeprickles, what a great way to start your weekend!

Vixxface, that doesn't make much sense so they give it to the wealthy for free but the less wealthy have to pay?! £250 seems like a lot but I've no idea how much is normal for these drugs...

Thanks cobblestones Flowers

Pebbles086 · 05/06/2015 16:42

mistletoe that's great!!! Grin
vix This seems so unreasonable and unfair. because of this situation we're in TTC I'd probably end up paying it if it meant a chance of becoming a Mum. Really sorry you've been told that.

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 16:42

vixx look up your primary care trusts policies online. It seems odd to me. I can understand the scans being costly but the clomid itself really shouldn't be

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 16:44

Thanks everyone Grin It's one step closer. It has generated 3 million questions from DP but all good. Now to continue the ttw...my first in 9 months!

Rufus200 · 05/06/2015 17:27

Congrats Mistletoe

Got my HCG, was 500 and something 2 days ago (receptionist couldn't remember exactly reallyprofessional) and 945 today, so still in there and growing.

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 17:30

That's good news rufus Is there a plan for more bloods or just wait and see? FX for you Thanks

Rufus200 · 05/06/2015 17:34

Scan will be in 2 weeks, so just have to wait and see what happens.
I'm really hopeful that there will be more BFPs on here in the next week.

chandelierswinger · 05/06/2015 17:59

Well what a way to start the weekend?! Star Woo hoo for both Rufus and Mistletoe Grin It's so lovely to hear some positive blood test news Smile

Vixx That really sucks; I wonder why they're blocking you like this? I had a private gynae when I was younger and she prescribed me estradiol and some other ghastly drug that made me very ill but the name escapes me now must be my age and I was able to take the private prescription and pay for it as an NHS patient. It seems crazy that you have to pay that much. Is this for one month's supply (which, in reality, is only a few tabs)??

VixxFace · 05/06/2015 18:32

Yes it's just one months worth. They call it cycle tracking. I am really not happy. I will pay the money because I have no choice but it's just frustrating that no one else seems to have the same experience. My friend lives about half an hour away and her gp gave her six months supply of 50mg.

She wants to give them to me as she no longer uses them but I think I need 100 mg as it 50mg didn't work this month.

Pebbles086 · 05/06/2015 19:23

vix could you not just take 2x50g of her tablets? Silly question for me to ask, I am not at the stage where any treatment has been offered.
However my inositol arrived today, just took 4g in some water, I've heard it's really great for PCOS in lowering testosterone or whatever hormone I have too much of! And it was really cheap so if it doesn't have any effect no lose really xx
Please research this info you have been given re the cost of Clomid. Is there another GP you could see within the surgery? Maybe you could get the clomid at normal prescription cost but pay for the scan? It's really awful, but just remember once you sort the financial cost out you will be on the right track for your BFP one day xxxx

Rufus200 · 05/06/2015 19:39

Vixx If your friend has enough for you to do a course, 10 x 50mg tablets I would take them. The Dr is happy to prescribe it to you so I don't see a problem.

Pebbles I think Inositol is great stuff but it did take at least 3 months for me to see a physical difference so don't be disheartened if it takes a while to kick in.

VixxFace · 05/06/2015 19:46

pebbles what is inositol?

I have spoken to gp and the doctor at the fertility clinic, they are all saying the same thing.

Oh so you can take two of the 50mg and it's basically the same as the 100 mg (sorry if that sounds stupid) but If that's right I will definitely do that.

Pebbles086 · 05/06/2015 20:45

Thank you rufus, I am not holding my breath that it will work, it will just be another bloody vitamin/supplement that I take of a morning with the hope that something will kick start my bits!!
vixx I would think that it would turn out to be the same dosage? Do you know anybody else who has upped their dosage? If so, where they given a 100mg tab or told to double their 50mg tabs?
Inositol is a natural compound that we steady produce in small doses but studies have found that woman with PCOS have been known to ovulate when they take it daily, won't always work and may not with me as I don't have natural AF. Have a Google of inositol for PCOS xx I think a few of the ladies on here have used it, I also read to take it with folic acid, I have already been taking that daily. Xxx

VixxFace · 05/06/2015 21:04

Thanks pebbles Smile

Rufus200 · 05/06/2015 22:24

Vixx I'm a vet so I can confirm that taking 2 x 50mg is the same as taking 100mg in one tablet. I doubt the drug manufacturers make bigger dose tablets and you just get told to take multiples of 50mg.

Shellbell0403 · 05/06/2015 22:28

Congrats rufus ??

Woohoo mistletoe!! That's fab!!

Can I ask.. What is this inositol?

I'm currently on day 100... Done test and negative.. Still pains in right side and breasts, hoping af shows up ASAP!!
